  • Director .app (Mac application) files won't copy to a PC

    Hi there I have a few Mac applications that I would like to transfer to a Windows computer. One was created using Adobe Director 11.0 and the rest were created using Adobe Flash CS4. The one created by Flash has no troubles whatsoever. The ones created using Director can't be copied to a Windows machine. I am using Snow Leopard and I tried to copy to Windows XP from CD, which was burned on the Mac. Development took place on the Mac as well.

  • Building a DVR system for use with custom windows application (video analytics)

    Is there a good PCIe DVR capture card that has at least 4 channels as well as the hardware encoding? It would have to have decent driver support in Windows xp or windows 7. I have looked at various video capture cards as well as an integrated video capture card/motherboard from Huperlabs. But so far I have not found one with a decent review and that has good driver support that I can verify. A really small card would be nice because I am trying to get a fairly small form factor. Huperlabs stuff is pretty awesome but they are slow to get back to me and they bundle their analytics software with the hardware (extra cost for nothing) The dvr is being used for security.

  • Avoid linux out-of-memory application teardown

    I'm finding that on occasion my Linux box runs out of memory and it starts tearing down random processes to deal with it. I'm curious what administrators do to avoid this? Is the only real solution to up the amount of memory (will upping the swap alone help?), or is there better ways to set up the box with software to avoid this? (i.e., quotas, or some such?).   • Using audio plugins in a rewire slave application

    I would like to be able to use VST/AudioUnit effects from a rewire slave such as Ableton Live, but it seems that Live doesn't let you use plugins when running in this mode. I'm not exactly sure why that is, but it would be nice to get working so that I could use VST plugins from within GarageBand without having to use the VST2AU wrapper plugin. What sequencers let you use VST plugins when running as a rewire slave?

  • Default soundcard per application in Vista?

    I use a USB headset during the day, then at night I use my speakers to watch video. I constantly have to use the windows playback list to change the default soundcard before I run the program I want. I did some google research but it doesn't seem to help much, mostly because of false positives. I tried to use "Sound Card Manager" but it didn't seem to work properly. Has anyone had any sucess dealing with the Vista sound system?

    https in tomcat being the hassel it is, I've been trying to get an Axis2 webapp to work behind a reverse proxy for ages now, can't seem to get it to work. The proxying itself works like a charm, but the app fails to generate 'links' (or ports as it concerns SOAP) using https. It would seem I need some way to let Axis2 know it is being accessed through https, even though the actual transport to it is done over http (proxied from localhost).   • How to "host' an application on one mac and run it on another

    I recently replaced my mac computer and would like to know if it is possible to run software on that computer that actually runs on another computer. My problem is that I use a terminal emulator that speaks SCO-ANSI on my old computer, but it is not compatible with the new version of OS X. I don't want to pay the exorbitant ($200+) licensing fee to get a current version of the software, so I'd like to know if it's possible to run the emulator on the old computer and just "stream" its window somehow to my new Mac computer.   • Application to automate Windows software installation in a test lab

    I have several test environments (hyper-V) which contain a variety of windows servers. Each machine needs periodically rolling back to a given snapshot and then re-installing with the latest version of our software to test. The software installs are quite complex MSI's with a fair few option screens. I know that the installs can be driven from the command line, passing in parameters to override the wizard options. At the simplest level I suppose I could just write a batch file to kick off each install with the required parameters, however the values that are passed in do need to change from time to time (and environment to environment) so a tool with a config file and simple GUI seems like a better idea. I think what makes it slightly more painful is the multiple environments. For example one environment might contain 4 servers and need a config file with all the server names, service endpoints etc. Another environment might be a 1-box install with all names and endpoints set to localhost. So, ideally I want to be able to store different setup configurations and use them to run all the required installers with the relevant settings against the relevant machines. Before I go off to write the thing, does anyone know of an existing, simple, free tool that will let me achieve this?

  • Complete Active Directory redesign and GPO application

    after much testing and hundreds of tries and hours invested I decided to consult you experts here. Overview: I want to apply some GPO to our users which will add some specific site to the Trusted Sites in Internet Explorer settings for all users. However, the more I try the more confusing the results become. The GPO is either applied to one group of users, or to another one. Finally, I came to the conclusion that this weird behavior is cause rather by the poor organization in Users and Groups in Active Directory. As such I want to kick the problem from the root: Redesign the Active Directory Users and Groups. Scenario: There is one Domain Controller, and we use Terminal Services (so there is a Terminal Server as well). Users usually log on to the Terminal Server using Remote Desktop to perform their daily tasks. I would classify the users in the following way: IT: Admins, Software Development Business: Administration, Management The current structure of the Active Directory Users and Groups is a result of the previous IT management. The company has used Small Business Server which has created multiple default user groups and containers. Unfortunately, the guys working before me have do no documentation at all. Now, as I inherit this structure I am in the no mans land. No idea which direction to head first. As you can see, the Active Directory User and Groups have become a bit confusing. There is no SBS anymore, but when migrating from SBS to the current Windows Server 2008 R2 environment the guys before me have simply copied the same structure. The real question: Where should I start cleaning from, ensuring that I won't break totally the current infrastructure? What is a nice organization for the scenario that I have explained above? Possible useful info for the current structure: Computers folder contains Terminal Services Computers user group Members: TerminalServer computer located at Server -> Terminalserver OU Member of: NONE Foreign Security Principals : EMPTY Managed Service Accounts : EMPTY Microsoft Exchange Security Groups : not sure if needed, our emails are administered by external service provider Distribution Groups : not sure if needed Security Groups : there are couple of groups which are needed SBS users : contains all the users Terminalserver : contains only the TerminalServer machine

    Hello. Can somebody recommend user-friendly program that will create ( or convert from Excel & Word, or OpenOffice) editable pdf forms. You know like tax forms, that some of us filled out. Where you can create a form with predefined format and stationary, but let user edit/fill out fields. I need something user-friendly that a regular person can use. I'm NOT looking for a pdf library ( I already use wkhtmltopdf for generating pdfs programmaticaly). The reason is that we have about 400 documents ( internal expense forms, traing forms, etc) in .doc and .xls format that we want to convert to editable pdf ( so that people don't have to fill them out by hand). Coding 400 templates and then converting them using some lib or command line tool - is not my idea of fun, espsecially since those form change all the time. I'd like to just give HR and Quality department the tool, so that they can maintain those documents.   • Looking for an application that scrolls or pans netbook screens running Windows

    I'm looking for a Windows 7 and XP compatible Windows desktop panning/scrolling tool. This is to solve a problem where some applications for example MSN have settings/preference Windows that are not resizeable. I have a Netbook with a small maximum screen resolution e.g. 1024x600. The fixed non-resizeable windows are too large for this display screen size so I cannot see all of the items on these windows, particularly the OK button to save settings. What I would like is a desktop scrolling/panning tool where if I move my mouse pointer to any edge of the display, it pans to show the region of the too-large-fixed window that I could not see. I use a Samsung N110 and Toshiba NB100 netbooks. I'm looking for: A general program that provides desktop panning/scrolling/expanded resolution to allow all regions of a non-resizeable fixed window Preferably a non-graphics hardware specific program but will accept a solution that works with both the above machines I'm NOT looking for (i.e. unsatisfactory answers others have asked that I've already searched and found): Advice on what programs to use that DON'T have the problem of fixed windows Alternative operating system solutions Plugging in an external monitor with larger resolution - I use this option but I need a solution when one is not available, e.g. while travelling etc Advice about not using small screen netbooks - I enjoy the compact convenience of them Advice about change the dpi settings in the Control Panel Display settings Advice about guesswork with the tab key to move the focus the off-screen item I cannot see Thank you in advance.

    I was curious and confused that what exactly is the behaviour of CTRl+Z. I know, If a process in running in foreground, and we press ctrl+z, it goes to background. But what exactly happens. Does it keep doing it's job, or does it get suspended, and stopped at the point where it was. Can someone please explain.   • Bradford Dissolvable Agent not completing scan, application unexpectedly stops without error or report

    I've been trying to connect to a network that uses the dissolvable agent to scan and OK your computer. The scan gets to around 70% ish, I think the last notification is that it's searching for AVG then closes, without report or notification. I've tried running it in compatibility modes, checking registry, running CCleaner, running as administrator, creating another user account and disconnecting all other HDD's appart from my system drive. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, and before I joined the network bradford ran fine and gave me the all okay.

    I have 1 webserver that has two .NET apps running on it. These are set up on the server as app1.mydomain.com and app2.mydomain.com. I would like to be able to take any request going to app1.mydomain.com/subfolder and rewrite it to app2.mydomain.com/subfolder using ARR. I am having difficulty getting this to work on a single server, and all the ARR examples on the net seem to imply that I require another server dedicated to ARR sitting in front of the two web servers. Is what I am attempting to do possible on one web server, and if so how?! Thanks all.

    I switch monitors really often: At work I have a very poor computer, and gpu too, which is bad at keeping its configuration, resolution and monitor position between each reboot. Both monitor are different size and resolution. When doing that I often have applications that were on one of the monitors that remember their last position opened... so now they are unseen, at screen coordinates I cannot access. I know there is a shortcut that can access the move functionnality of a window. Could you remind it to me. Do you have other trick to center all opened windows into the visible screens ?

    I want to improve the way I organize my projects/tasks/schedule What I do now is: keep an excel sheet with the name of the most important tasks/projects, I look at it at the beginning of each day and decide the ones I will focus on on iCal I write down events for each day, or for a concrete time (13 to 14 hours). I set up each day the tasks I want to accomlish, and allocate them hours I use Things (culture code) to keep info about tasks and projects not very important and which are not time allocated yet (GTD name = someday) I use Mail on Mac and create folders for the mails I want to process with the name of the different projects I save the main info for each project on freemind maps My system works well at the moment but it is pretty complicated to use. I want to make it better and I am looking for something with these requirements: must be 100% offline accessable it should use as less programs/resources as possible, ideally just one program should be able to manage all my info I can use the GTD methodology mixed with priorities and I can allocate each task converted to event on my calendar I can have different daily/weekly, etc views on a calendar to see the "big picture" must run on mac os x leopard price does not matter, I will pay for this So, according to your experience, can you recommend me something like this?     I'm looking for a backup media manager that will keep me up-to-date on where my backups are, how they're stored and what's stored on them. I want it to be able to do and keep track of the following: my used backup media (e.g. DVD1, DVD2) my backed-up assets in high-level (such as "family-photos from 2003", "laptop drivers") details of the assets ("Ninas Birthday 2003") where the backup media is currently stored when the media has been burned (to re-burn in case of media degeneration). It should be possible to navigate back and forth between media and assets. I also thought about marking assets as "deprecated". If all assets on a media are deprecated, the program should tell me so I don't have to keep it any more. Does anyone know of a program with this feature-set? Or will I have to start my own reference in something like Access?
