  • Alias a Virtual Directory or Application as Root on IIS 7

    Our current IIS setup as two applications running on different paths at (for example) http://server/sub-a and http://server/sub-b. I want to alias http://server/sub-a as root so that just going to http://server/ will bring up the contents of sub-a. The problem I face is that when I initially set up a ReverseProxy it negatively affected http://server/sub-b. I know this is a fairly common problem- how have you solved it? 99.9% of my experience is with Apache, so I feel a tad lost in the GUI world of IIS.

    I have a question about proxy and ajp module. On my machine I have a Apache web server and a Tomcat servlet container. On Tomcat is running a my java webapplication. On Apache I have some services and I can call these in this way: http://myhos/service1 http://myhos/service2 http://myhos/service3 I would configurate a ajp connector to call my tomcat webapplication from Apache.   • All application passwords lost on Windows 7

    A couple of days ago I changed my Windows 7 login password. My laptop is on my company's domain, so password changes are done over the internal network. Since changing the password I noticed that all my saved Chrome passwords are missing. Also Skype, Windows Live, Internet Explorer and Outlook lost their saved passwords. I guess there could be more applications with lost passwords, but I have not opened them yet. This makes me think that most applications saves their passwords to a general password vault on the Windows system and this vault got somehow corrupted when I changed my domain login password for windows. Do anyone have any idea of how to fix this and prevent it from happening again? EDIT : More Info I do development work at the office, so most of the time I bypass the firewall and connect directly to the internet gateway. Now and then I would connect to the company wifi network to do printing and access files on a NAS. So by default my laptop does not connect to the wifi hotspot. On this occasion to update the password, I had to connect to the wifi. So referring to the comment by OmnipotentEntity below, could this have happened when the system rebooted without a connection to the network as the laptop does not auto connect to the wifi hotspot?

We have created all users and different groups as follows: dn: dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local ou: people dn: uid=geo,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: uid=user,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: cn=server,ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local member: uid=geo,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local dn: cn=website,ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local member: uid=user,ou=people,dc=ldapserver,dc=local We need scenario in such a way that the users that are member of server need only login to server (that is geo) and users that are member of website need only login to websites (That is user “user”). Please let me know how we can configure it. For login site we tried by giving DN as cn=website,ou=groups,dc=ldapserver,dc=local and Login Attribute as uid and also member but it is not working. Can anyone please help us on it. Also please let us know is there any other option for accomplish this scenario. Thanks Geo

  • IBM Rational Application Developer V7.0.0

    Hi When I try to start my local server in RAD it takes ages to start. In startserver.log it stays at the following log statement for about 5 minutes ADMU3100I: Reading configuration for server: server1 When it moves on from this log statement, the server starts as normal. I have tried creating a new server profile and starting a server with no projects but I get the same results. What could be the issue here? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.     Hello, Hopefully this is the right place for this question. I have done a fair amount of research and yet to find anything that matches what I want. What I'm envisioning is the following. Let me know if any of you know of a program that will do what I want. Also it must be web-based anom user - fills out form - email gets sent to admin saying xyz has filled out form abc with links to approve/disapprove request. admin can also login and edit form and resent results to original submitter. Also once the admin approves/disapproves request the original submitter gets an approve/disapprove email. and you can search by date submitted, specific project/form, status of request(submitted, approved, disapproved). any ideas all on where I could find this? I started to look into drupal with workflows and actions but it just doesn't flow right for this

  • Psexec issue when running an application on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine from a 2003 R2 machine

    I am trying to run an application on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine from a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine using a batch file with the following line of code in a batch file: psexec \\nightmachine -u DOMAIN\User -p Password -i "C:\FilePath\Application.exe" argument1 argument2 The application fails to run correctly when started using psexec, but the application will run correctly if I have logged into the nightmachine with the same user and started it from its file path via cmd. I have been able to get hold of the error returned in the application from its log and the exception returned is the following: System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'rasapi32.dll': A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007045A) After searching for that error code on the net, there are a lot of posts saying that this is caused by file corruption, but I cant see why that would be the case as the application will run normally when not being run from psexec. (the user is an administrator on both machines) Can anyone please help me on this? If any more information is needed to help solve this issue then please ask and I will do my best to post it.

  • Apple Mail Rules application

    I've got a Mac running Apple Mail and a bberry, both checking the same mail accounts. One account is pop and two accounts are IMAP. The Mac is asleep during the day. While out and about, I'll check my mail on the bberry, read the new messages, and leave them in my inbox. When I come home, I wake up the Mac, and Mail syncs with the server. The filtering rules are not applied to messages that are previously read via bberry. Can I apply rules to 'read' messages? I've tried to select emails in the inbox and then apply rules to them, but that doesn't move the message.

  • "Access is Denied" when executing application from Command Prompt

    Today when I tried to run an old DOS utility from the XP Command prompt, I got the message "Access is Denied." Then I found that most of the DOS utilities would not run, even though I have "full control" over them. They worked just fine a few weeks ago, and I have not made any OS changes other than Windows Upgrades. Then I tried running edlin.exe and edit.com from the Windows\system32 folder. Same result - "Access is Denied." I tried running these applications from Windows Explorer and got the message "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I am logged in as a member of Administrators and have full control over these files. I tried logging in as THE Administrator, with no change. I checked the security settings on the files, and have full control over all of them. I have tried copying the files to different drives, booting in safe mode, and running without antivirus and firewall, all with no change. Does anybody know what could cause this?

    I have to transcribe some audio (not enough to download dedicated software but enough to put my hacker hat on) and flipping back and forth between vlc and my text editor every time I want to pause is really annoying. Is there a way to always route a key-press (for example F10) to vlc regardless of what window has focus. Bonus - I have a Makey Makey so if I can get this working I can create a pedal and it will be my first real use of it!

  • Performance decrease in every game and application

    When I start a game, initially it runs smoothly, but after a couple of minutes, the performance gradually decreases to the point of being unplayable (1-2 FPS). The sound also starts to lag at this point. This does not happen every time I start my PC, usually exiting the game, rebooting, then starting the game again solves the problem, and I can play with perfect FPS for as long as I want. I could not find any deterministic reason when this happens and when doesn't. It happens in every game I tried (SWTOR, Diablo 3, Skyrim), and not even games, but simple applications like a browser or the Control Panel can get unusably slow. This is a brand new PC I bought three months ago, and this problem occurs since the first day I've been using it. Could you provide any advice how to further diagnose the problem? I tried to reinstall Windows, and tried different video card drivers, but it did not help. It would be important to know whether this is a hardware or software problem, because I can use the warranty if it is a hardware issue. (I did not want to return the PC yet, because I can't reproduce the issue deterministically.)   • Looking for an application that scrolls or pans netbook screens running Windows

    I'm looking for a Windows 7 and XP compatible Windows desktop panning/scrolling tool. This is to solve a problem where some applications for example MSN have settings/preference Windows that are not resizeable. I have a Netbook with a small maximum screen resolution e.g. 1024x600. The fixed non-resizeable windows are too large for this display screen size so I cannot see all of the items on these windows, particularly the OK button to save settings. What I would like is a desktop scrolling/panning tool where if I move my mouse pointer to any edge of the display, it pans to show the region of the too-large-fixed window that I could not see. I use a Samsung N110 and Toshiba NB100 netbooks. I'm looking for: A general program that provides desktop panning/scrolling/expanded resolution to allow all regions of a non-resizeable fixed window Preferably a non-graphics hardware specific program but will accept a solution that works with both the above machines I'm NOT looking for (i.e. unsatisfactory answers others have asked that I've already searched and found): Advice on what programs to use that DON'T have the problem of fixed windows Alternative operating system solutions Plugging in an external monitor with larger resolution - I use this option but I need a solution when one is not available, e.g. while travelling etc Advice about not using small screen netbooks - I enjoy the compact convenience of them Advice about change the dpi settings in the Control Panel Display settings Advice about guesswork with the tab key to move the focus the off-screen item I cannot see Thank you in advance.

When you play some games, sometimes happens situations like "press quickly the X key to escape from ropes" or "press quickly the X key to fill the rage gauge", etc. Of course, that kind of game destroy keyboards, joysticks, mouses, etc. I would like to know about programs (preferentially free) that, by example, will press the 'x' key in intervals of, by example, 300ms. Remember that the built in Windows "keyboard repeat rate" doesn't works for games. When you press (and hold) somekey in the game, the key is not repeated as in default Windows Applications. Thanks!

  • Is there a utility to visualise / isolate and watch application calls

    Note: I'm not sure what to search for so guidance on that may be just as valuable as an answer. I'm looking for a way to visually compare activity of two applications (in this case a webserver with php communicating with the system or mysql or network devices, etc) such that I can compare the performance at a glance. I know there are tools to generate data dumps from benchmarks for apache and some available for php for tracing that you can dump and analyse but what I'm looking for is something that can report performance metrics visually from data on calls (what called what, how long did it take, how much memory did it consume, how can that be represented visually in a call stack) and present it graphically as if it were a topology or layered visual with different elements of system calls occupying different layers. A typical visual may consist of (e.g. using swim diagrams as just one analogy): Network (details here relevant to network diagnostics) | ^ back out v | Linux (details here related to firewall/routing diagnostics) ^ back to network | | V ^ back to system Apache (details here related to web request) | | ^ response to V | apache PHP (etc) PHP---------->other accesses to php files/resources----- | ^ v | MySQL (total time) MySQL | ^ V | Each call listed + time + tables hit/record returned My aim would be to be able to 'inspect' a request/range of requests over a period of time to see what constituted the activity at that point in time and trace it from beginning to end as a diagnostic tool. Is there any such work in this direction? I realise it would be intensive on the server, but the intention is to benchmark and analyse processes against each other for both educational and professional reasons and a visual aid is a great eye-opener compared to raw statistics or dozens of discrete activity vs time graphs. It's hard to show the full cycle. Any pointers welcome. Thanks!   • PHP application failed to connect after a network plugged back in

    My data-center appears to have had some issues with their network and thus my server has suffered from on an off network connectivity for about an hour. After the connection has been completely re-established my code still kept reporting the same issue over and over until I have restarted the service. The code is a simple PHP code that loops forever checking the Apple feed-back server and then sleeps for a few minutes and then it begins all over again. Now I understand the error being generated if the network is down but once it got back up why did it continue until I have restarted the code? Does PHP have something that needs to be re-initialized or something??   • Crossplatform "jail" for an application

    We currently have a variety of systems (Linux, Solarix, *BSD, HP-UX ...) on which we are not allowed to install anything into / (but I have root access. That's strange, I know). But we'd like to run Puppet on all of them. So, the obvious idea is to install Puppet with all prebuilt dependencies into some isolated tree, something like "jail", which will allow to use dependences from some prefix and to access the host system. The big advatanges would be uniform deployment and updates. One solution that came to my mind is to deploy Gentoo Prefix, and install Puppet there with package manager. However, this requires a lot of extra space and some manual patching for each system. Maybe there are some more elegant and simple solutions?

  • Stop application windows hiding when app loses focus

    How can I stop windows on my mac (Mac OS Snow Leopard) from hiding when the app that owns the window loses focus. Not all apps on the mac do this, but Photoshop and Transmission are perfect examples of apps that exhibit this behaviour. It's frustrating when you want to type notes in another app (e.g. word processor), but refer to the contents of the window that hides when you focus the word processor to start typing your notes! There must be an option (or hack) to disable this? I always thought Apple were supposed to be the masters of UI design, but allowing apps to do this seems wrong.

  • Restart single uWSGI application (when it's in emperor mode)

    I'm running uWSGI in emperor mode to host a bunch of Django sites based on their individual configs. These are supposed to update when it detects a change in the config file and this largely works when I just touch uwsgi.ini the relevant file. But occasionally I'll mess something up in the Django site and the server won't load. Yeah, yeah, I should be testing better but that's not really the point. When this happens, uWSGI seems to mark the site as dead and stops trying to run it (seems to make sense). Even after I fix the underlying issue, no amount of touching will get that site's uWSGI process up and running. I have to reload the whole uWSGI server (knocking dozens of sites out at once for a few seconds). Is there a way to force uWSGI to just reload one of its sites?

  • Outlook 2010 says "File is in use by another application or user" while closing

    Outlook opens, gets new emails and everything but when I close it, it gives me the following error and then opens up a Save a File window after I cancel this error message. There's no other computer that may be using Outlook under this User Name because I just set-up a brand new User Name. However, Colligo Briefcase is attached to the Outlook and not sure if this is triggering and if so how I address the issue!? Thanks a lot!
