• Designing operation (a,b) -> (c,d)

  I have an operation that I need to design. That operation takes two objects of a certain class X, and returns two new objects of the same class (I may need the originals later). The logic that dictates the selection of this object is contained in class Y. On one hand, I don't want class Y to know details about class X implementation; on the other, I don't want class X to know details about selecting the different objects to perform this operation on. If that was all the problem, I'd just create a static method on class A. However, the methods in language I'm working on return only one object. Also, the operation needs to be robust, and calling operation two times to get C and D respectively isn't possible, as both C & D both rely on a single random number. How should I design such operation? Update: I'm using Obejctive C.

• In Blackberry, how are shared objects in runtimestore recognized by other applications

  In Blackberry Runtime Store, when sharing objects between applications. How can we call methods of the shared object in another application, if the object itself is not recognized in the other application ? i am getting a runtime error when object gets typecasted, as that object is not defined in the calling applicatoin . If i typecast it to super interface and have the interface in another application. When i call getClass() on the object returned from the runtimestore. It shows as concrete class instance stored in the RunTimeStore. How can a share a object in runtimestore and use it across different applications ?

• avoid caching of page in browser

  I am using an iframe to show the child pages.In that one one particular page contains hidden div and i am showing it as a pop-up like thing with javascript by changing the visibility of the hidden div. Problem is before showing the hidden div , some manipulations are done at server level and I am calling the div from C# code after the manipulations like Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(GetType(), "MyKey", "javascript:OpenModelPopup('cb','cs');", true); so the page is getting posted back and the div is shown. after this, after going to next page if i click browser back it shows that page with that hidden div and on next click of browser back gives the page without hidden div. but I want to show only the initial stage of the page ie. without showing the hidden div that stage with hidden div should not be cached or it should not be shown on click of browser back.

• Access .ldb file & multiple connection.

  I have an API which opens an access database for read and write. The API opens the connection when it's constructed and closes the connection when it's destructed. When the db is opened an .ldb file is created and when it closes it's removed (or disappears). There are multiple applications using the API to read and write to the access db. I want to know: Is ldb file used to track multiple connections Does calling an db.close() closes all connections or just one instance. Will there be any sync issues with the above approach.

• Explicit constructor still has default values even though a default constructor is not invoked.

  According to my understanding a default constructor initializes the state of the object to default values, so if i provide an explicit no-arg public constructor like this then how are the values of d and e still getting initialized to zero because in this case the default constructor is not invoked. public class B extends A{ private int d; private int e; public B() { System.out.println(d); System.out.println(e); } } EDIT:: The only thing default constructor does is call to super() then how come if i have a explicitly mentioned a constructor here and A has a protected variable say c which is initialized to 17 in its constructor. Should I not be explicitly calling super() to be able to see that change since I'm using my own constructor ? Why is B still getting the value of 17 through inheritance ?

Java api says: When requested to find a class or resource, a ClassLoader instance will delegate the search for the class or resource to its parent class loader before attempting to find the class or resource itself. But there's a specific chapter about class loader in the book <java reflection in action> and says: Class loader calls findLoadedClass to check if the class has been loaded already.If a class loader does not find a loaded class, calls loadClass on the parent class loader. which is correct ?

• pointers for getting elements of an array in C

  I am a newbie in C and I would like to get the elements of an array with a function, I have tried different options, but I still do not get the elements. My function is: void getelements(int *a, int cl) { int *p; for (p=&a[0];p<&a[cl];p++) { printf("%d\n",*p); } } I know that the solution should work like that, but it only prints the first element and then memory positions. I am able to change the value of the property but it doesn't seem to be taken into account until I restart the consumer. Example with the camel-archetype-java and its basic file example: Run It Change the delay of the File Consumer by calling the setDelay Operation with the JConsole Delay property of the Consumer is changed but logs show it continues to poll at 500ms by default Stop/Start the consumer New value of delay is used by the consumer Do I need anothers steps or active any configuration to make it work at runtime?

  What is the preferred method of writing loops according to efficiency: Way a) /*here I'm hoping that compiler will optimize this code and won't be calling size every time it iterates through this loop*/ for (unsigned i = firstString.size(); i < anotherString.size(), ++i) { //do something } or maybe should I do it this way: Way b) unsigned first = firstString.size(); unsigned second = anotherString.size(); and now I can write: for (unsigned i = first; i < second, ++i) { //do something } the second way seems to me like worse option for two reasons: scope polluting and verbosity but it has the advantage of being sure that size() will be invoked once for each object.   Hello, So I have a very simple class that has a method called getThumbUrl() but when I try calling this method on an instance I get Notice: Undefined property: FlickrImage::$getFullUrl But it is clearly there. Here is the code of the function: public function getThumbUrl() { return "http://farm".$this->_farm.".static.flickr.com/".$this->_server."/".$this->_id."_".$this->_secret."_t.jpg"; } And here is where it fails: foreach($photos as $photo) { echo "<img src='$photo->getFullUrl()' />"; } Any ideas?   In my Django project, I have a non-abstract parent model defined as follows: class Parent(models.Model): classType = models.CharField(editable=False,max_length=50) and, say, two children models defined as follows: class ChildA(Parent): parent = models.OneToOneField(Parent,parent_link=True) class ChildB(Parent): parent = models.OneToOneField(Parent,parent_link=True) Each time I create an instance of ChildA or of ChildB, I'd like the classType attribute to be set to the strings "ChildA" or "ChildB" respectively. What I have done is added an _ _ init_ _() method to Parent as follows: class Parent(models.Model): classType = models.CharField(editable=False,max_length=50) def __init__(self,*args,**kwargs): super(Parent,self).__init__(*args,**kwargs) self.classType = self.__class__.__name__ Is there a better way to implement and achieve my desired result? One downside of this implementation is that when I have an instance of the Parent, say "parent", and I want to get the type of the child object linked with "parent", calling "parent.classType" gives me "Parent". In order to get the appropriate "ChildA" or "ChildB" value, I need to write a "_getClassType()" method to wrap a custom sql query.

• 'Loading' web page for async call

  I have a simple web page in ASP.NET / C#. Currently to fully render the data I require calling a block of code that runs on background threads and can take multiple minutes to complete. I've got it to the point (using the async attribute on the page declaration) to execute and return fine with the html once it's done. What I'd like it to do is allow me to return immediately with a 'loading page' of some sort and then have that page be updated when the background work has been completed. Right now I get nothing on the page while the background work is being processed. Any ideas on the best way or clever way to do that would greatly be appreciated! Thanks, Sieg

• Fastest method for SQL Server inserts, updates, selects

  I use SPs and this isn't an SP vs code-behind "Build your SQL command" question. I'm looking for a high-throughput method for a backend app that handles many small transactions. I use SQLDataReader for most of the returns since forward only works in most cases for me. I've seen it done many ways, and used most of them myself. Methods that define and accept the stored procedure parameters as parameters themselves and build using cmd.Parameters.Add (with or without specifying the DB value type and/or length) Assembling your SP params and their values into an array or hashtable, then passing to a more abstract method that parses the collection and then runs cmd.Parameters.Add Classes that represent tables, initializing the class upon need, setting the public properties that represent the table fields, and calling methods like Save, Load, etc I'm sure there are others I've seen but can't think of at the moment as well. I'm open to all suggestions.

• .NET grouping forms so that pulling up the primary form shows all other forms?

  I have an app that can open up some other forms at the user's request, and they're set to not show in the taskbar. The problem is, if one of the secondary windows becomes hidden by another app, switching to the primary window only brings that form to the forefront. Is there a good way to "group" the forms so that giving any of them focus brings the whole group to the front? I tried calling BringToFront() on each form in the primary form's Activated event, but that also gives the secondary forms focus, making it impossible to interact with the primary form.

  Hi there, I learned that when executing commands in Python, I should use subprocess. What I'm trying to achieve is to encode a file via ffmpeg and observe the program output until the file is done. Ffmpeg logs the progress to stderr. If I try something like this: child = subprocess.Popen(command, shell=True, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) complete = False while not complete: stderr = child.communicate() # Get progress print "Progress here later" if child.poll() is not None: complete = True time.sleep(2) the programm does not continue after calling child.communicate() and waits for the command to complete. Is there any other way to follow the output?

I understand that if there is no value for option.variable then VARIABLE_CONSTANT is used, but I don't understand that calling Module::Class.config do |options| #some block end set the @client until config is called again with options The code definitely works, but I want to understand how it does

• how to put .properties file in classpath of an Eclipse plug-in

  Hi. I have an application which is making use of a .jar file and a .properties file which must reside in the same directory as where the .jar file lies. On a normal java application, this works fine, however I'm building an Eclipse plug-in. I've tried attaching the .properties everywhere, in the classpath, build path, putting them in the same folder and calling the jar file from there (this gives an obsure error) and I've even tried putting the .properties file inside the .jar file even.... but no luck. • QuickTime movie disappearing from Javascript when scrolled offscreen in Firefox?

  I have a web page I'm creating that uses Javascript to control an embedded QuickTime player. I add the QuickTime movie to the page using the AC_QuickTime.js file from Apple (as described here - http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/QuickTime/Conceptual/QTScripting_HTML/QTScripting_HTML_Document/ScriptingHTML.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40001525-2-SW1 ). Everything seems to be working fine - I can call methods on the QuickTime movie and control its playback (as well as get the current timestamp). The problem is that in Firefox, when I scroll down such that the QuickTime player is no longer visible, I get the following error every time I try to call a method on the QuickTime movie: Error calling method on NPObject! This does not occur in Safari. Why is this happening, and is there any way to work around this?

I have a listener setup which will update the variables being drawn at the appropriate time but I now want to "refresh" this draw in that listener. How would I do such a thing?

  Core Data is calling these methods in certain situations: - (BOOL)validateForInsert:(NSError **)outError; - (BOOL)validateForUpdate:(NSError **)outError; - (BOOL)validateForDelete:(NSError **)outError; I wonder if they're doing anything different, or if they're essentially doing the exact same things. As far as I know, these methods call the -validateValue:forKey:error: method once for every property. The only difference I can imagine is in the .validateForDelete: method. I see no reason why to validate an object when it shall be deleted, except for applying delete rules, probably only in the case of the DENY rule.

• c# project cannot find c++ .dll?

  I have a working c++ dll that works in one c# project that I am calling via the interop service. I have created another c# project and am trying to call the same .dll but keep getting a generic error message stating that the .dll cannot be found, both project are .net 2.0. What folder, and where do I specify in the project, should I put the .dll file in so that the project can find it? Think of it as a reminder for me... In the previous project I did not have a reference to it, I just had it in the /bin folder and doing the same thing for this project does not work. Thanks R.
