• Installing chrome gives an error: "dependency is not satisfiable"

  I just installed ubuntu on my laptop, everything works fine, but I'd like to use chrome instead of firefox. I downloaded the .deb file from the chrome website, and when I open it, the install buton inside the software center is inactive (I can't click it) and it's telling me dependency is not satisfiable: libcurl3 I did a search for libcurl3 in the Software Center, the three results I'm getting are already installed. Any ideas how to fix this? I also tried installing chromium-browser, but that's not working out neither. I'm getting Package dependencies not resolved and this details block: The following packages have unmet dependencies: chromium-browser: Depends: libgcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1) but 1:4.5.2-8ubuntu4 is to be installed Depends: libxdamage1 (>= 1:1.1) but 1:1.1.3-1ubuntu1 is to be installed Depends: zlib1g (>= 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg) but 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3ubuntu3 is to be installed Depends: libnss3-1d (>= 3.12.3) but it is not going to be installed

• Is there a general rule of thumb for which browsers to optimize your site for?

  I have a site (recently relaunched it with a new design) that I have put off optimizing for ie7 for far too long. I was just never too worried about it. The site is optimized for ie8-10, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, etc.. Then I asked myself, is it even worth it? I checked traffic over the last couple months before the relaunch and about 1.3% of the traffic is coming from ie7. So, is there a general cuttoff percentage when you would not optimize for a specific browser?

• Problem in Loading certain Websites in Ubuntu 11.10

  I have a DSL connection in Ubuntu 11.04 and am having problems loading content from certain websites mostly providing CDN services. I have tried every suggestion asked at problem loading internet pages as I have the same problem. Also tried to remove the DNS Cache and Browser Cache. I have tried using Google DNS Server: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, but nothing seems to work. Though when I browse the websites in Windows XP then it does not pose any problem. This problem has come up only few days ago and has affected every browser(Chrome, Firefox and Opera) in Ubuntu 11.04. Thanks in advance.

• How can I downgrade my version of Evolution to the one used in Ubuntu 11.04?

  I just upgraded, and like a few other users I had issues with Evolution email after the upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 and then 12.04. I know to make backups, but in this case I stupidly didn't think that the program would be changed (Firefox wasn't modified at all), and so I failed to make a backup. Three days later I am still having issues, and recovering the emails is proving to be difficult with only partial recovery or it not working at all. My question is, can I add in some source to use the 11.04 version of Evolution, since that version was working fine and would know what to do with the current files (Inbox, Outbox, etc.) I also noticed that Evolution's restore feature said it changed the way emails are handled, so it seems like a downgrade could put everything back to normal. Worst case scenario, I start over, but I wanted to try everything first. Thanks in advance! I'm also open to any suggestions for restoring the old emails files to the current version of Evolution.

• Is there a ways to see granular per-visit data in Google Analytics?

  I've started using Google Analytics very recently and I'm a bit lost with the sea of options (have been using Sitemeter before for some time). I've clicked through the service a lot but couldn't find what I'm accustomed to. I can see multitude of aggregated statistics in GA like: charts of browser share lists of country share lists of most visited URLs within the page and so on, but I would actually like to analyze each of the visits themselves. Something like: User X, France, Chrome, 7 pageviews between 18:01 and 18:15, entered on a.htm and exited on b.htm User Y, UK, Firefox, 1 pageview at 18:20, entered on c.htm Is there an easy way to see the reports in this way (perhaps by clicking a link to a separate page to see that particular session's stats)? How to navigate there if so?

Has OAuth. However the functionality missing for me is sending file as a body of the request; Cannot send multiple files; Firefox Poster add-on — Quite nice, but the functionality it's missing for file as POST fields parameters; Also cannot send multiple files; cURL — can do anything, but it's quite tedious to use it from command line.

• Is it time to drop Courier from your monospace font stacks?

  I've been fine-tuning my font stacks lately and was wondering if it's safe to drop Courier from my monospace font stack yet? Would you feel comfortable dropping it? Of course, monospace is my final fallback. Note 1: OS Testbed: WinXP, WinVista, Win7, iPhone, iPad Based on my research, these browsers now substitute Courier New for Courier by default: IE9+ Chrome 2+ Firefox 10+ Safari 3.1+ iDevices Note 2: The default "font-family: monospace;" renders as Courier New in every browser I've tested, from IE6 through the latest iPhone/iPad devices. EDIT: One exception is Opera 12, which renders Consolas on Win. Opera 10 renders Courier New. Note 3: I've noticed that Courier refuses to render with any font smoothing (anti-aliasing) in any browser I've tested, regardless of system and/or browser display settings. Probably because it's an old bitmap font. This could be because of my system setup, however.

• chrome download interrupted leaving ".crdownload" temporary file

  I am using Google Chrome 15.0.874.121 in Ubuntu 10.10. It was fine until recently. Whenever download a file, it always reports "Interrupted", but it actually finishes the downloading, leaving an intermediate file with extension ".crdownload". If removed the extension, the file will be perfect. Note that downloading in Firefox works fine at the same time. So I wonder if it is a bug or how I can fix it? Thanks and regards!

• When clicking below window title bar in KDE, window dragging is initiated. Can I change this behavior?

  this one is regarding KDE in Ubuntu 12.04. The thing is that whenever I click below the window title bar in KDE, the window manager always assumes I want to drag the window, not just activate it. Clicking the title bar activates the window without dragging it just fine, however I sometimes find it hard to click because it's rather narrow :) Is there any way to change this behavior (besides the obvious "make your title bar larger" thing)? I also assume this is happening to Gtk applications only (Firefox, Thunderbird, Synaptic), as I have tried it with several KDE apps (KWrite, KTorrent, Gwenview, Konsole) and noticed no such behavior. • Keyword does not work in dash

  Since the last update of my OS ubuntu 11.10, I am not able to type in the dash. In any other application (like Firefox for this message), the keyboard is working fine, but in the dash "window" of unity (I am not sure what it is called officially), the keyboard is buggy. Sometimes I manage to enter one or two characters, but most of the time nothing appears as if the key-press signal was not received. Before the update, I actually was working with gnome-classic (I had removed unity from oneiric). The update seemed to have reinstalled unity, but something apparently is missing or damaged. Does anybody have a clue about what could be done to repair the dash?

• Howto have thunderbird/lightning open ics files

  Some websites offer .ics files, calendar files. I would like thunrbird to open these with Lightning so it can add the events in the ics-file to its calendar. When I use /usr/bin/thunderbird to open the file with, it starts a new message with the ics file attached. I could download the file, then import it from lightning, But I rather have lightning just open the file. Is there a commandline-option for this? Some wrapper-script maybe? Should I change something in firefox?

  I wanted to know how to customize the splash screen in Ubuntu 13. I have tried to install Plymouth Manager but when I run sudo apt-get update it says it was unable to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/mefrio-g/plymouthmanager/ubuntu/dists/raring/main/binary-i386/Packages. I opened the address in Firefox but it didn't open. Also I would like to know where the files for the Ubuntu Logo, Splash Screen Background, etc. are located (to customize them). In previous versions they were located at usr/share/images. I am running Ubuntu 13 Raring Ringtail on VMWare Player. The host is an Acer 5600U running Windows 8. Thnx.

• Having Trouble Granting Access Via Squid

  I'm by far no expert at this but how do I grant access to Squid? I'm current using 2.7.STABLE9. I've read you need to add a couple of lines, an acl and http_access line. So here's what I added and where. I highly doubt this is right since I'm trying to connect via my laptop and Firefox is yelling at me saying the proxy server is refusing connections. • Google: What does a return to PR 'Unranked' mean?

  One of my sites is very new (about 3 months). When first launched it's pages had (unsurprisingly) a Google PR of 'Unranked' [From Google toolbar stats, via the firefox SearchStatus plugin]. After a few weeks these changed to PR0. Just recently I noticed that they are showing PR 'Unranked' once more in Google Toolbar. As far as I know I'm following the Google guidelines. Results for the site still seem to be showing for its keywords. What could this mean?

  Is there a way to remove kernel 3.1 from Oneiric? I downloaded and upgraded to 3.1 with these instructions: Open the terminal and run these two commands for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu 11.10/11.04: wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...241006_all.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.1.0-030100_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_all.deb Ubuntu (64-bit) For Ubuntu 11.10/11.04 (64-bit), issue these commands: wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...1006_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.1.0-030100-generic_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_amd64.deb wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...1006_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-image-3.1.0-030100-generic_3.1.0-030100.201110241006_amd64.deb Everything went well. I was able to reboot quickly, but Firefox and Chrome constantly crash with Kernel 3.1. I am using Gnome 3.2 and saw improvement with 3.0.0.13 provided by ppa.   So I can create launchers in a quicklaunch thing on the kde desktop. The launchers are easy to create, and work most of the time. What I haven't figured out, is how to pass arguments to the applications that I want to launch. I want to launch the firefox profile manager and I also want to add a launcher for an emacsclient frame. For emacsclient, I've tried these: emacsclient -c "emacsclient -c" 'emacsclient -c' None of them work. When I click the launcher, the tiny emacs logo appears attached to the mouse pointer, and stays there for at least a couple of minutes, but no new frame opens. So, how can I actually open an emacsclient frame, or any other application with an argument from quicklaunch?
