• Extract Certs from Apache

  Recently I've had to uninstall a single Self-Signed SSL Certificate from one of my Apache boxes, specifically for an outside party. That's not really a problem for me, since it was easy. What confuses me is how they knew I had a self-signed certificate. The domain I provided them was not related to the domain with the self-signed certificate. Does this mean Apache publicizes the Virtual hosts in the httpd.conf file? I asked the outside party what software they used to extract information from my server, and they provided this GitHub link: https://gist.github.com/4ndrej/4547029 I figured I'd ask the community first, before I attempt installing the Java program.

• How to disabled password authentication for specific users in SSHD

  I have read several posts regarding restricting ALL users to Key authentication ONLY, however I want to force only a single user (svn) onto Key auth only, the rest can be key or password. I read How to disable password authentication for every users except several, however it seems the "match user" part of sshd_config is part of openssh-5.1. I am running CentOS 5.6 and only have OpenSSH 4.3. I have the following repos available at the moment. $ yum repolist Loaded plugins: fastestmirror repo id repo name status base CentOS-5 - Base enabled: 3,535 epel Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 enabled: 6,510 extras CentOS-5 - Extras enabled: 299 ius IUS Community Packages for Enterprise Linux 5 - x86_64 enabled: 218 rpmforge RHEL 5 - RPMforge.net - dag enabled: 10,636 updates CentOS-5 - Updates enabled: 720 repolist: 21,918 I mainly use epel, rpmforge is used to the latest version (1.6) of subversion. Is there any way to achieve this with my current setup? I don't want to restrict the server to keys only because if I lose my key I lose my server ;-)

• Odd SVN Checkout failures occur frequenctly on VMWare virtual machines

  We've recently been experiencing seemingly random SVN checkout failures on our Hudson build system. Google search has failed me; I'm hoping the super user community can help me out :-) We are occasionally receiving the following SVN error when our Hudson build jobs checkout source via the Hudson Subversion plug-in (which uses svn kit): ERROR: Failed to check out http://server/svnroot/trunk org.tmatesoft.svn.core.SVNException: svn: Processing REPORT request response failed: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity. (/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default) svn: REPORT request failed on '/svnroot/!svn/vcc/default' This issue seems to only occur when checking out from our Virtual Machines (Windows XP, Fedora 9, Fedora 12) using Hudson's SVN Plug-in. Systems that use the traditional SVN client seem to work. SVN Server version: 1.6.6 Hudson version: 1.377 Hudson SVN Plugin Version: 1.17 Has anyone dealt with this issue, or have any suggestions? I can't seem to find a defenitive yes / no answers so I thought I'd ask the ServerFault community this simple question: Does XenServer (in any version) support Storage migration such as VMWare's Storage VMotion capability, or Hyper-V's storage migration ? I'm trying to do a comparative study of all platforms but I can't find a website (preff. Citrix supported or any other "legit" source) where it say's a defenitive yes or no. • Change Block Tracking settings not retained for a VM on VMWare 5.5

  I'm trying to enable Change Block Tracking as per this VMWare KB article but the setting ctkEnabled is not being retained in the advanced options or being added to the vmx file. The setting scsi0:0.ctkEnabled is being retained and I see a file vmname-ctk.vmdk in the datastore. I've verified that the vm doesn't have any snapshots but don't see any other suggestions in the KB (or google, of course.) Edit: The last comment on this community post. It's a slightly different circumstance, but suggests that there is an known bug editing these settings in the web-gui.

• Redirecting Subdomain with Volusion and GoDaddy

  I need to create a subdomain (reviews.basequipment.com) and have it re-direct to our Reviews page at http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies. The genius's at Volusion have never gotten this to work correctly and I have been asking them for years now (yes years). Our nameservers are on Volusion and we are hosted through GoDaddy. Volusion tells me to use their "CPanel" to update DNS Records to this: reviews | CNAME | www.resellerratings.com This doesn't even work when going to reviews.basequipment.com and of course does not do the full job as I want to go to http://www.resellerratings.com/store/survey/Burkett_Restaurant_Equipment_Supplies So I have then tried doing a Forward Subdomain in GoDaddy. Added subdomain "reviews" and forward to the link I mentioned above, with no avail (im assuming because my nameservers reside on Volusion). Has anyone had experience doing this, or does anyone know of any suggestions? Volusion is pretty limited with this and as I've said, I have been trying this for years and I've finally decided to consult the community here at stackflow. Thanks in advance.

So I turn to the community, Something on Linux is fine, what I want more is alert ability like emails telling me something is not right. • What to do with old hard drives?

  I have over 100+ old hard drives, ranging from 100MB Quantums to 200GB WDs, most of them PATA, some SATA. Most still working. The squirrel mentality runs in my family - hoard everything, discard nothing. Thus, and this is a relevant question - any suggestions on how to put these drives to use (anything) instead of them just being deadweights and space takers around the office? Hopeful objectives and suggestions to keep in mind when you post an answer : Should showcase your geekiness, or plain fun, or serve a social purpose, or benefit the community. You do not need to limit your answer to only one hard drive - if your project needs all 100++, bring it on! Your answer need not be limited to one project per hard drive - if one hard drive can be used for multiple projects, bring it on! If additional accessories need be purchased, make sure they are common. Don't tell me to get a moon rock or something. The projects you suggested should serve a utility, and not just for decoration purposes.

  I am trying to configure snmptt to translate the snmp traps received and handle them as passive checks in icinga monitoring server as described here . after doing the changes to the snmptrapd.conf . I am trying to restart the service and I see authcommunity : command not found, traphandle : command not found . my understanding is the authcommunity and traphandle are just configuration directives which will tell snmptrapd about the community string to use and the traphandle script to be called.   Of the major Unix shells (bash, ksh, tcsh, zsh, others?), are there any compelling reasons to use one over another? Which is the most interactive/command-line friendly? Which is the most conducive/intuitive for writing scripts? Are there any major built-in features that one shell offers that others don't? Are any of these shells really good for one type of function, but not another? Or are they all pretty well-rounded/flexible? Is it just a matter of personal preference? • Problem downloading Android SDK?

  So I'm trying to download the Android SDK for Windows from their website but it isn't working. The download seems to proceed without a hitch but something is wrong because the downloaded .zip is only 2-3 MB (size varies), MD5 doesn't match and the file won't open or extract. Obviously the download is corrupt but I have no idea why. A quick google didn't turn up anyone else with this problem to indicate that it might be on the server side. My connection is rock solid and I've never had issues with it so I'm not sure what it could be on my end. I tried downloading the linux version as well and tried using the alternate link, both to no avail. Having recently discovered this amazing community I thought I'd ask here. Any ideas?

• snort-mysql not starting on Ubuntu server

  I am following this tutorial: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SnortIDS I've set up the database, everything has installed correctly, and I've configured the snort.conf file so it outputs to a database (with creds all filled out ok). When I run /etc/init.d/snort start, it fails but does not produce any error message other than [fail]. The last few lines of /var/log/syslog are: snort[5687]: database: must enter database name in configuration file#012 snort[5687]: FATAL ERROR: My output database line in the snort.conf file is: output database: log, mysql, user=snort password=... dbname=snort host=localhost I have tried it with the commas separating everything, putting quotes around stuff, etc. The password is only made up of letters (after I thought maybe a number was throwing it off).

• When XP is asleep for a long time LAN reports code 43, gives up the ghost.

  This one's got me stumped. Whenever the system is asleep for a long time, e.g overnight, the LAN driver reports error code 43 ("a problem") and turns itself off. This has being going on for months, but I never caught the problem until now. The owner merely shuttles back to a restore point I set her when the machine worked. Previously (without knowing exactly what was happening) I have tried everything to resolve this. Manually resetting the TCP/IP, fiddling with the driver Wake From LAN settings, DIFFERENT drivers, etc. etc. The solution is easy, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Understandably, though, the user is uncomfortable with this operation and the problem persists. What's causing it and how to stop it recurring? Any ideas? Thanks in advance to this great community. • ASA 5540 v8.4(3) vpn to ASA 5505 v8.2(5), tunnel up but I cant ping from 5505 to IP on other side

  I am having problems pinging from a 5505(remote) to IP 10.160.70.10 in the network behind the 5540(HQ side). 5505 inside IP: 10.56.0.1 Out: 71.43.109.226 5540 Inside: 10.1.0.8 out: 64.129.214.27 I Can ping from 5540 to 5505 inside 10.56.0.1. I also ran ASDM packet tracer in both directions, it is ok from 5540 to 5505, but drops the packet from 5505 to 5540. It gets through the ACL and dies at the NAT. • Can SQL Server (2008) transaction logs handle the database being dropped and re-created?

  We're trying to restore a database (created programatically by running a hand-crafted SQL script we have). Our backup routine is to create a full backup of every database on the SQL Server 2008 instance on a Saturday then automatic transaction logs (I assume these are created automatically anyway - we appear to have lots of log files, possibly one per transaction after the full backup was taken?). On Tuesday this week the database in question was dropped and another one with the exact same name and schema was created. SQL Server has continued to create transaction log files but it hasn't had chance to create a new full backup (that won't happen until next Saturday). Now as it turns out we need to restore the database to how it was on Thursday. This is after the "drop and re-create". My question is, is this possible? If it isn't, what exactly does SQL Server think that it's writing to those transaction logs created since the drop and re-create? (I understood they were kind of files containing a binary delta, which makes me think maybe we can restore from them?) I'm no DBA but then neither is our IT department, so I'm doing the best I can to resolve this. Any advice much appreciated!

• How do I connect remotely to SQL Server from Windows client?

  Hi All, Having a bit of an issue connecting to SQL SERVER remotely from Windows. I've verified that all of my settings are correct via SQL SERVER MANAGEMENT STUDIO EXPRESS and SQL SERVER CONFIGURATION MANAGER. I can connect remotely using ODBC drivers from other OSes (e.g. OS X, Linux, etc). However, when I connect with the same credentials from a remote Windows machine using "SQL SERVER" as the driver I am told that the system cannot connect. I've tried creating an ODBC Data Source and I get the same error: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 14 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen(InvalidInstance()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server Error: 14 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]Invalid Connection From the non-windows machines I can use the IP address of the SQL Server just fine. However, on the remote Windows machine, neither IP address nor named instance works. FYI, I can create an ODBC Data Source using the named instance on the machine actually running the SQL Server (but this is, of course, nothing special -- just proof that it isn't completely hosed). One interesting note: If I use SQL STUDIO 2005 from a Windows client machine, I can use the IP address to connect remotely. Still, the whole reason I bring this up is because I need to use a software package I've written to connect to SQL Server remotely from Windows machines as well. Previously the solution was only needed to xfer data from SQL Server into a PostGRES or MySQL database on non-Windows machines (due to DBA preference). However, now they also want to move the data from the legacy software to MySQL even on Windows. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Feel free to provide a full example connection string. Best

  I am working on email server, since i tried several times to create email server on ubuntu12.04LTS with postfix + dovecote + postfixadmin + courier + clamav + spamassassin. But everytime i install these packages i face new problems, like mails send to localhost users and found in users maildir. But I can't determine how to configure/setup for send an email to external smtp like gmail, yahoo. The most worst thing i can't determine how to use sasl, because i am not using SSL so it is not worthy for my domain. • Conflicts between 2 NICs

  Hi, I have an HP server (Windows server 2003) with 2 external NICs (couldn't get the builtin NIC to work). One is for an internal network of 4 PCs and the other is for part of an Internet-facing network. Many times a day, we have to disable the internal NIC in order to get the other NIC to see the network. I know this is happening on a server, but the issue is more related to the conflicts on the NICs. Any suggestions from the community on where to look for a solution?

• sudo or acl or setuid/setgid?

  for a reason I do not really understand, everyone wants sudo for all and everything. At work we even have as many entries as there are way to read a logfile (head/tail/cat/more, ...). I think, sudo is defeating here. I'd rather use a mix of setgid/setuid directories and add ACL here and there but I really need to know what are the best practices before starting up. Our servers have %admin, %production, %dba, %users -i.e many groups and many users. Each service (mysql, apache, ...) has its own way to install privileges but members of the %production group must be able to consult configuration file or even log files. There is still the solution to add them into the right groups (mysql...) and set the good permission. But I do not want to usermod all users, I do not want to modify standards permissions since it could change after each upgrade. On the other hand, setting acls and/or mixing setuid/setgid on directories is something I could easily do without "defacing" the standard distribution. What do you think about this ? Taking the mysql example, that would look like this: setfacl d:g:production:rx,d:other::---,g:production:rx,other::--- /var/log/mysql /etc/mysql Do you think this is good practise or should I definetely usermod -G mysql and play with standard permissions system ? • Dealing with employees that use Hotspots? [closed]

  Recently a consultant revealed to me and my superiors that a particular department in my company had a tremendous decline in productivity over the past year. This department happened to mostly work with laptops and tablets and thus had wireless. Our barracuda did not display any vast amounts of internet entertainment and so I was initially puzzled by his statement. However he explained that more and more employees are using "hotspots" that when not broadcasted, become invisible to our network. So basically these people could connect to hotspots and watch youtube all day and we would never know it. The consultant also said that this was becoming an issue for many companies. So my question is, how can I detect invisible hotspots? I was browsing google and there are several different programs that can scan for such access points. But I am hoping to get a recommendation from the serverfault community. Thank you.

• Combine two or more tables into a third separate table

  Hi community, I have an excel workbook that has three pivot tables in it. What I am wanting to do is create a fourth table that combines the data from all three of the other tables. Essentially I want to concatenate the tables together but still preserve the source tables. Another criteria of what I am wanting to do is if I add a row to any of the source tables it must update the combined table and it must work with x amount of rows where x could be any size. I know I am asking a lot but I would be so grateful if I could get some help working this out. I am comfortable with using either VBA or native excel to solve this. If you guys need examples I will be happy to upload some.

• Is it safe/wise to run Drupal alongside bespoke business web apps in production?

Previously my employer's Drupal based 'visitor website' was hosted as a managed service with a 3rd party. While the LoB sites were hosted in-house. That 3rd party is no longer available so I'm considering my options: Bring Drupal in-house Find another 3rd party My concern is that I have little experience with Drupal administration (and no experience securing it) and that the addition of PHP to my IIS server poses a security risk. • Any Windows based OpenID servers out there? [closed]

  I've been looking to setup an OpenID server for a special project, but haven't found any workable OpenID server software packages. Originally was looking for a *nix solution, and found several, but they all had some kind of issue. So far I've tried JOIDS, community-id, and a couple others I unfortunately can't remember the names of. I've also come to the conclusion that even if I had managed to get one of those going that the management/upgrade cycles would have placed undue burden on the company (only a couple part time sysadmins with *nix knowledge, the day to day people are primarily Windows). So, I'm hoping that there's a Windows one out that will be functional that someone knows about and will be easy for a minimal support environment...

  I want to built a virtualised Server Environment using XEN or KVM. The virtual machines should be purely debian systems - so XEN or KVM should be a sane choice. Now while buying servers, I am confronted with the fact, that the vendors obviously only support commercial solution. I think, on a good server, one should be able to install uncommercial software as well - but of course sometimes systems have hardware, that requires drivers, that are not found in the OS Community. So I am asked the question: Is it straight-forward to use Debian with IBM Server System x3650 M4 791562G with Debian - or even virtualising the IBM Server System x3650 M4 791562G using XEN or KVM. I am sure there will always be a way to achieve this goal - but this way might have a high milage - so I am not asking, whether this is theoretical possible, but whether this should be straight-forward and practically easy to do, no major headaches to be expected.
