• CYGWin and sshd. Accepts authentication, but won't connect

  Everything I find relating to this is the "ssh-exchange-identification:" error. This doesn't happen for me. I get two lines: Connection to localhost closed by remote host. • Is there a good XP like windows explorer for windows Vista?

  I'm still refusing to go to Windows Vista and now Windows 7 mainly due to the windows explorer, I find it cumbersome and hard to use exclusively with a keyboard. I use XP file explorer in the most basic view, the address bar at the top and files always in list view underneath. The reason I do this is because I'm almost blind and do everything from the keyboard and don't touch the mouse whilst navigating through files, this is because I can type "L[ENTER]D[Enter]B[Enter]" and know that I'm in "c:\documents and settings\Brett Ryan", and I can hit [Tab] once to go to the address bar to type in a folder. Can anyone suggest a replacement for windows explorer that brings back this basic navigational behavior?

• Dreamweaver not loading due to workspace file problem

  I went to launch Dreamweaver CS 5.5 and this message popped up: XML parsing fatal error: Invalid document structure, line 1, file C:\Documents...(file path)...Workspace\My Workspace.xml It was followed by The following panel layout is missing or could not be read: C:...My Workspace.xml The application will not have a correct layout. Please load one from WindowsWorkspace After that, Dreamweaver acted as if it was going to load, but never did. When I tried to close the program, it crashed. I followed the file path and I saw two files: My Workspace.xml 0kb and My Workspace 5kb. The second one has an unknown file type. I deleted the first file and renamed the unknown file type to My Workspace.xml; everything worked fine after that point. Why did Dreamweaver do this? This has happened several times, but I have not changed anything that should affect that file type.

  When working on a rails app I like to open all of my files through the command line like so cd my_app gedit app/views/user/show.html.erb Is there a way that I could shorten this so that I could just write something like gedit user_views/show.html.erb ? I would like the console to stay in the main directory, I just don't like having to type out app/controller/user_controler.rb every time I want to open the user controller. I know that I could just open the file with my mouse, but I feel like moving from keyboard to mouse breaks my focus a little bit. When I can just tap away at the keyboard it seems like I have a more smooth workflow.

• How can I have my Windows keymap on Mac?

  On Mac, to get a "{" for example, you have to press OPTION key plus 8 to get a curly brace. But on Windows it is ALT-GR plus 7. Another example: On Windows I can press CTRL and Backspace to remove one whole word. On Mac it is OPTION + Backspace. Is there a way I can remap these Mac-driven behavior to be more Windows-like? Because this is, as a very long Windows user, a big burden on me to have such a different keyboard layout. Edit: I'm using a german keyboard layout.

• Mac OS Sound Problem.

  Ok, this is strange problem, and I couldn't find any solution for it yet. This happened today then @work I plugged in external speakers jack, speakers was playing, everything was OK. But after I took jack off, I couldn't hear any sound from mac speakers. It seems like disabled. So now I only can listen music through headphones or external speakers but not mac speakers. • Perf4j Not Logging Correctly

  I setup some stop watch calls in my code to measure some code blocks and all the messages are going into my primary log and not into the timing log. The perfStats.log file gets created just fine but all the messages go to the root log which I didn't think was supposed to happen according to the docs I've read. • Ctrl + right click opens mutiple items instead of selecting them. How do I fix this?

  Something happened to my keyboard and or mouse controls. I have a Logitech T-BB18 trackwheel and an hp NY418AA Keyboard. When I use the mouse in Windows mail and click the delete button it deletes two emails instead of one and opens all the emails that I have selected when I ctrl + click on multiple emails to select them. When I'm in Windows Explorer ctrl + click and multiple select opens all of the files that I have selected instead of just selecting them. I really need to fix this behavior. Can someone help please?

Question2: How can I link an excel pivot-table to a potentially changing source table without having to re-draw the excel pivot-table layout every time the source table changes data. (Note, the columns are not changing, just the data in the rows). Background: I have an excel 2007 pivot table that is grabbing data from another sheet (an excel "table" ... tables are a new feature of excel 2007). When I change the data in the source table, and then go to the pivot table and press "refresh" ... the pivot table reverts to its "blank" format and requires me to re-drag the columns rows and values. What I want is for the pivot-table to simply re-draw itself without me having to re-create the pivot table layout.

• Linking "Wave Volume" to "Main Speaker Volume"

  I've got a Logitech keyboard and a digital sound device. The Logitech keyboard has a little volume wheel that sets the Main Speaker Volume. The digital sound device ignores the Main Speaker Volume and only pays attention to Wave Volume. See the issue? I'm looking for a program that can link Wave Volume to Main Speaker Volume. The closest I've found is a little utility named VolumeTracker, but it eats an entire CPU core, which is a bit much for a program of this functionality. Alternatively, I'd take a way to make the standard Logitech drivers change Wave Volume instead of Main Speaker Volume.

• ListView: convertView / holder getting confused

  I'm working with a ListView, trying to get the convertView / referenceHolder optimisation to work properly but it's giving me trouble. (This is the system where you store the R.id.xxx pointers in as a tag for each View to avoid having to call findViewById). I have a ListView populated with simple rows of an ImageView and some text, but the ImageView can be formatted either for portrait-sized images (tall and narrow) or landscape-sized images (short and wide). It's adjusting this formatting for each row which isn't working as I had hoped. The basic system is that to begin with, it inflates the layout for each row and sets the ImageView's settings based on the data, and includes an int denoting the orientation in the tag containing the R.id.xxx values. Then when it starts reusing convertViews, it checks this saved orientation against the orientation of the new row. The theory then is that if the orientation is the same, then the ImageView should already be set up correctly. If it isn't, then it sets the parameters for the ImageView as appropriate and updates the tag. However, I found that it was somehow getting confused; sometimes the tag would get out of sync with the orientation of the ImageView. For example, the tag would still say portrait, but the actual ImageView would still be in landscape layout. I couldn't find a pattern to how or when this happened; it wasn't consistent by orientation, position in the list or speed of scrolling. I can solve the problem by simply removing the check about convertView's orientation and simply always set the ImageView's parameters, but that seems to defeat the purpose of this optimisation. • Can't avoid starting macbook in safe mode

  I recently spilled some water on my MacBook (mid-2010) keyboard and it shorted out several of the keys. Notably, control and left option don't work, and the system thinks that the left shift is permanently held down. I plugged in an external USB keyboard and all keys work fine; there's only one problem: The computer always starts in safe mode because the shift key is held down. I've tried holding down other keys (escape, space, c to name a few) and the control key doesn't work so I can't try that. I also tried KeyRemap4Macbook but it doesn't work in safe mode and it doesn't seem to help on startup for me. I can log in to Windows with no problems (with rEFIt) and I can browse the internet with no problems, but I can't program on the Mac OS side in safe mode (it's really slow). Which is mainly what I use this Macbook for. Any ideas out there on how to avoid starting in safe mode?

• Logitech Optical Mouse Frozen In Middle of Windows XP Pro Screen

  I have a Logitech Optical Mouse/Keyboard. I have been using them just fine with the system drivers for almost a year now. I recently updated my Kaspersky software and rebooted. Now the mouse is frozen in the middle of my screen. I am not able to login to the Windows XP Pro box that has the frozen mouse (because i can't work the mouse) but am able to remote desktop to this computer. Things I know / have tried: When I boot on the problem computer, I am able to use the keyboard, but not the mouse. I have installed the latest version of Logitech's SetPoint (with the updated drivers) on the problem computer (via remote desktop) and that didn't seem to matter. I bought new batteries for the mouse and that didn't matter. I have tried the mouse/keyboard on another computer and the mouse works just fine there. My suspicion is that the Kaspersky install has overwritten a driver of some sort. Things I have not done (and would appreciate detailed steps if you feel this is the way to go): 1) Uninstalled all the mouse drivers on the machine and reboot. Then, reinstall. Note: When I get to the Device Manager I don't see an option for Human Interface Devices (where the mouse device is). Here are my options: Computer, Disk Drives, DVD/CD-Rom drives, Floppy controllers, IDE ATA/ATAPI, Imaging devices, Network Adapters, Other devices, Ports, Processors, Sound, video, and gaming, System devices, USB controllers. Also, I should point out that Video Controller is the only thing under Other devices and it has a yellow exclamation mark. The same is true for all the items under Universal Serial Bus controllers. I think this means I have to update my BIOS but, since my mouse was working just fine without doing that, I don't think that is my problem. So, how do I get to my Mouse Device? 2) Update my BIOS. Note: As pointed out above, I don't think this matters as my mouse was working just fine under my computer's current BIOS version. Thanks for your help.

• USB mouse disconnecting and reconnecting randomly and often

  Specs: Q6600, evga 780I sli mobo, 4gig RAM, logitech MX518, windows 7 64bit, evga gtx 260, 650W power supply (single rail) The problem I am having is my mouse will reconnect/disconnect (will even hear the sounds from windows) and the light on the bottom of the mouse will turn off/turn on as it starts working again. It really sucks to be playing a game (and happens on desktop as well) for the mouse to just die out for a few seconds and come back. Sometimes it will not happen for days and other times it will do it 2 or more times within 15 seconds. I have tried two different wired mice, have tried multiple USB ports (on front of computer, back of computer, have also used a USB hub and have also plugged in a card that connects to the USB connectors on the motherboard and adds a few usb ports to the back of the computer, and I also bought a USB 2.0 PCI card and that did not help). Nothing else seems to reconnect like this, my usb keyboard has never once cut out like the mouse does and neither have any of the other devices I have connected (webcam, usb hub, various devices sometimes connected through usb cables, and IR reciever for windows media center remote). I have disconnected all usb devices except for my keyboard and mouse and the problem still occurs. I guess it could be something wrong with my motherboard but since no other devices behave similarly I'm just hoping that it is some kind of driver conflict. Installing logitech's drivers has had no effect. It seemed at first that if I go to device manager and uninstall HID-compliant mouse (that and logitech mx518 are listed) that would fix it but it doesn't seem to work anymore or at least not every time (it keeps reinstalling). I have googled "usb mouse disconnects and reconnects" and it seems to be fairly common but none of those were resolved. To stick some easy steps: It happens with or without the drivers installed It has happened with multiple mice on the same computer Bios is the latest version (P08) Motherboard drivers are the latest version Device manager is listing no problems on any USB devices Happens with every usb port, even addon usb cards Happens when all usb devices aside from mouse and keyboard are unplugged I read that maybe it is an IRQ conflict and I tried to look into that but did not really know what was going on, but didn't see anything obviously wrong. • Looking for a software solution which acts like a hardware KVM

  I've seen programs like Synergy before which allow a keyboard and mouse to be used across multiple systems. Unfortunately Synergy treats both systems like they are the same thing (when you move the mouse too far to the right it jumps to the other computer, along with keyboard input). I only have 1 monitor so what I need to do here is have a quick way to view my other desktop that is easy to manage. Remote desktop is difficult because you have to take it out of fullscreen, then minimize it and then re-maximize it when you want to use it again. If there were a single button I could hit to switch to the other computer that would be optimal. Both computers are on the same lan.

  Hi, I have a laptop and an external display. I am able to use the external display either as extended desktop OR duplicate desktop. I also use a separate keyboard and mouse. So effectively, the laptop acts just as a box without display. I want to know is it possible to use the laptop as 2 virtual PCs. (with separate control). I.E., one person uses the laptop as a laptop, and other person can simultaneously connect a keyboard and mouse and the external display and effectively get a second PC. OS I am using - windows (thought solution for other OSes are welcome). Laptop is a Dell Precision M6300. thanks JP

  I'm trying to find information how do we take a screenshot on Windows 7 that will actually create a screenshot file like .png in to your desktop like on mac where you can do it by press Command+Control+Shift+4. In windows all I know is that I can do it by press press = Windows captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard. or for the Active windows I can just do hold and press = Windows captures only the currently active window and copies it to the clipboard. Right now I'm using maComFort which it gives me functionality of Mac like keyboard that I can take screenshot in such the same way with Mac OS X but really it changes many of the key in my keyboard in the way I don't like. So I wonder if there is a better way?

• How can I make Windows Media Player ignore global hotkeys in Windows 7?

  I have Windows 7 and a Logitech G15 keyboard. One of the programs with the Logitech G15 allows you to control media players such as Winamp with the playback keys on the keyboard. Problem I'm having is that, even though I have told this program to not control Windows Media Player, every time I use it to pause Winamp, it then hits plays (or unpauses) Windows Media Player. Even more annoying given that Windows Media Player isn't even running as an active GUI program and instead as a background process, so I hear the sound of whatever the last video it was I playing. If I end-task wmplayer.exe it spins right back up but at least now it has no knowledge of a video to play, but this is annoying. How can I either a) Have Windows Media Player in Windows 7 completely unload when I close it, or b) Have Windows Media Player in Windows 7 ignore any sort of global hotkeys?

• log in to v20z console using serial management

  I have a Netra T1 (SPARC) which has LOM that enable to log in to the OS console locally for troubleshooting without plug in a monitor and keyboard. I also have a SunFire V20z (x86) which has a SP. However I do not find any equivalent command to reach the console. It would not be ideal for me to bring along monitor and keyboard to the data center for troubleshooting locally. For example, I accidentally messup the OS network configuration and unable to log in the OS. I have to log to the console through serial management/LOM to troubleshoot it. However it seem doesn't work in x86 machine. Is there anyway I can able to do the same thing on x86 machine?

  I'm looking at some methods to browse the web, in situations where bandwidth is scarce (such as, flaky wifi connection, or mobile phone internet provider who overcharges the bandwidth). One thing that would save alot of bandwidth is not downloading images while browsing. This approach has two main drawbacks Sometimes a site's layout depends of images. There are some images you wish to see (thus disabling images downloading through firefox settings is not quite convenient). I'm looking therefor for a method that would allow me to Use some heuristic to find out which images are related to the website layout and allow them to be downloaded. Select a particular image from a website, download and display it. Maybe there's a firefox extension for that?

• Synergy on Mac OS X 10.7

  Unfortunately, I can't seem to get Synergy to work between two Mac clients both using 10.7. One is an older 21" iMac and the other is a new 2011 Macbook Air. Here's my synergy.conf, symlinked to my home directory as ~/.synergy.conf section: screens foo: bar: super = alt alt = super end section: links foo: right = bar bar: left = foo end That is, I thought the super = alt trick was mandatory in order to have alt work on Mac but unfortunately, nothing really works. Both the Command and Control keys do NOT work on bar but work fine on foo given that the keyboard is paired with that screen. The keyboard modifier keys are the same on both computers and the making the mouse go between screens works as well. I was wondering if anyone else had any success or problems running into this issue on 10.7 and was hoping there was a possible fix.

• Multi Monitor setup goes crazy after locking/unlocking Vista machine

  Give me a 10-blade quad-processor quad-core Opteron centre and ask me to configure failover/load balancing and I'd be happy to, but the following problem has got me completely stumped. My Vista Business Professional machine, running Ultramon, has three monitors attached. When I lock the machine (to go to the delicious cafe around the corner), the monitor layout stays correct. When I unlock it, I watch as all my screens flicker (as they are being re-configured), and Vista chooses some crazy layout for the monitors. The most recent one is below, but it's never consistant. Any ideas what might cause this? It's Vista Business, with UltraMon 3.0 (exiting Ultramon makes no difference).
