  • SaveFileDialog problem (C#) (VS2008)

    Hi all, I am having an issue with SaveFileDialog for some reason. All I want to do is extract data from a text box line by line and write it to a text file, then save that text file to the desktop. The first bit of code works fine (though it doesn't save to the desktop). The second bit of code is what I want to use, but when it creates the text file the text file is empty. What did I do wrong in my second bit of code?   • Single developer, project organization

    I am looking for a good (and free) way to organize some of my personal projects. I am saying "organize" because I'm not sure, if the standard project management software solutions are exactly what I am looking for and especially something what I, as a single developer, need. In general, I just want to keep my progress of my projects organized in some way. I would like to be able to keep track of milestones and split those into multiple smaller tasks, so I can keep track of my progress. So some task/issue based system would probably be good, especially as I also want to keep track of issues/bugs with specific versions (although I alone will create those issues). I am and will be the only developer on those projects, so it doesn't matter if the software is offline or online, and I also don't need any collaboration features (like commenting on things, or assigning tasks to other developers etc). But if there is a good software that fits my needs, and in addition it has those things, I don't really care. After all it's easy enough to not use available features. Many online solutions also offer integrated code hosting. I am using git internally, but I don't plan to push any of the code, so such a feature is not needed either. In case of online solutions however I would like the projects to be closed to the public (some of the online utilities only offer open source projects for free and require payments for private projects). I have looked at some project management solutions already, I also read some similar questions here on SO. But given that I'm a single developer, my focus is probably a bit different as when others ask for a huge distributed software that supports many developers and different collaboration features. Some standard answers such as Trac (which also only supports one project), Redmine and FogBUGZ look interesting, but are a bit off my interest (although you may change my mind on that :P). Currently, I'm looking at Indefero which doesn't look too bad. But what do you think?

    I have php scripts that do things like register, login, upload. I would like to keep the HTML in a seperate file so that say I make a desktop client I can just use the php files to do the login register etc. Basically to have say a front end, the HTML or desktop client and then only one backend, the php. Is that possible?

I'm meaning iPhone apps cause I want to write code on iPhone. (any code like java c ruby etc and doesn't limit to writing codes for iPhone...) For example, in my python script I'm just trying to use os.chdir("/Users/aaron/Desktop/testdir/") But would like to use os.chdir("~/Desktop/testdir/") I'm getting a no such file or directory error when trying to run this.   • What are good strategies for organizing single class per query service layer?

    Right now my Asp.net MVC application is structured as Controller - Services - Repositories. The services consist of aggregate root classes that contain methods. Each method is a specific operation that gets performed, such as retrieving a list of projects, adding a new project, or searching for a project etc. The problem with this is that my service classes are becoming really fat with a lot of methods. As of right now I am separating methods out into categories separated by #region tags, but this is quickly becoming out of control. I can definitely see it becoming hard to determine what functionality already exists and where modifications need to go. Since each method in the service classes are isolated and don't really interact with each other, they really could be more stand alone. After reading some articles, such as this, I am thinking of following the single query per class model, as it seems like a more organized solution. Instead of trying to figure out what class and method you need to call to perform an operation, you just have to figure out the class. My only reservation with the single query per class method is that I need some way to organize the 50+ classes I will end up with. Does anyone have any suggestions for strategies to best organize this type of pattern?

To someone working on the server i don't want them to see the remote application running (except if they looked in at the list of running processes).   • How should I name my SQL query files? Should I use some methodology?

    We have an Oracle 10g database (a huge one) in our company, and I provide employees with data upon their requests. My problem is, I save almost every SQL query I wrote, and now my list has grown too much. I want to organize and rename these .sql files so that I can find the one I want easily. At the moment, I'm using some folders named as Sales Dept, Field Team, Planning Dept, Special etc. and under those folders there are .sql files like Delivery_sales_1, Delivery_sales_2, ... Sent_sold_lostsales_endpoints, ... Sales_provinces_period, Returnrates_regions_bymonths, ... Jack_1, Steve_1, Steve_2, ... I try to name the files regarding their content but this makes file names longer and does not completely meet my needs. Sometimes someone comes and demands a special report, and I give the file his name, but this is also not so good. I know duplicates or very similar files are growing in time but I don't have control over them. Can you show me the right direction to rename all these files and folders and organize my queries for easy and better control? TIA.

I do not know how to create a nested lists of objects - with a different type of object/primitive type at the end. For example: *Note: only an example. I am actually doing this below with something other than Employee, but it serves as simple example. I have an array of an object Employee. My Java knowledge is inadequate right now to solve this problem, but the project I was handed was in Java. I am primarily a python guy, so this problem would have been a lot easier in that language. No such luck.

The client connects to the server, and the server notifies the client if something interesting happens. Now I'm supposed to replace the desktop GUI by a web GUI, and I'm wondering if I have to rewrite the server to send http packets instead of tcp packets or if I can somehow use some sort of proxy to grab the tcp packets and forward them to the web client?
