• loaderInfo null inside creationComplete handler function

- by Thiago
Hi, I've coded this small snippet to show what I'm not understanding: <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" creationComplete="init()"> <mx:Script> public function init():void { txtName.text = this.loaderInfo.toString(); } </mx:Script> <mx:TextInput x="50" y="10" id="txtName"/> </mx:Application> I'm getting the following error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at Teste/init()[C:\Lucas\flex\AppName\src\Teste.mxml:5] at Teste/___Teste_Application1_creationComplete()[C:\User\flex\CornetaRecorder\src\Teste.mxml:2] at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at mx.core::UIComponent/dispatchEvent()[C:\autobuild\3.2.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:9298] at mx.core::UIComponent/set initialized()[C:\autobuild\3.2.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:1169] at mx.managers::LayoutManager/doPhasedInstantiation()[C:\autobuild\3.2.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\managers\LayoutManager.as:718] at Function/http://adobe.com/AS3/2006/builtin::apply() at mx.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher2()[C:\autobuild\3.2.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:8628] at mx.core::UIComponent/callLaterDispatcher()[C:\autobuild\3.2.0\frameworks\projects\framework\src\mx\core\UIComponent.as:8568] Shouldn't I be able to read loaderInfo inside the creationComplete handler? I'm trying to pass a string from the html to my flash component, that's why I have to get loaderInfo working.

• How to check for mutual existence of Fields in same table in Two columns

- by ranabra
I tried using "Exist" and "IN". Not only did I not succeed, it didn't seem as an efficient solution. Here is a simplified example: TblMyTable WorkerUserName - WorkerDegree - ManagerUserName - ManagerDegree I need a query where there is a mutual connection / existence. What I mean is only where the worker, ex. "John" has a manager named "Mary", and where Mary the manager has a worker named "John". John the worker can have several managers and Mary the manager can have several workers. So the result will be (the order doesn't matter) ideally in one line: John - BSc -- Mary - M.A. or Mary - M.A. -- John - BSc The punchline is it's only one table. it is not really managers and workers, this is just a simplification of the situation. In the real situation both are equal, in a Table of names of users working with other users. Database is SQL 2005. Many thanx in advance

• Invalid assignment left hand side

- by JoelM
I'm getting an invalid assignment left hand side. What I'm trying to do is, to use jscolor http://jscolor.com to define the color of polygons im drawing via Mapbender http://mapbender.org. What I do: Select a polygon by clicking on it, then open the options dialog (seperate window) where I have several options including the color. MyCode: if (isTransactional) {str += "\t\t
\n"; var options = ["insert", "update", "delete", "abort", "pick"]; for (var i = 0 ; i < options.length ; i++) { var onClickText = "this.disabled=true;var result = window.opener.formCorrect(document, '"+featureTypeElementFormId+"');"; onClickText += "if (result.isCorrect) {"; onClickText += "window.opener.dbGeom('"+options[i]+"', "+memberIndex+"); "; // onClickText += "window.close();"; onClickText += "}"; onClickText += "else {"; onClickText += "alert(result.errorMessage);this.disabled=false;" onClickText += "}"; if (options[i] == "insert" && hasGeometryColumn && (!fid || showSaveButtonForExistingGeometries)) { str += "\t\t\t
<input type='button' name='saveButton' value='"+msgObj.buttonLabelSaveGeometry+"' onclick=\""+onClickText+"\" />
\n"; } if (!featureTypeMismatch && fid) { if (options[i] == "update" && hasGeometryColumn) { str += "\t\t\t
<input type='button' name='updateButton' value='"+msgObj.buttonLabelUpdateGeometry+"' onclick=\""+onClickText+"\"/>
\n"; } if (options[i] == "delete"){ var deleteOnClickText = "var deltrans = confirm('"+msgObj.messageConfirmDeleteGeomFromDb+"');"; deleteOnClickText += "if (deltrans){"; deleteOnClickText += onClickText + "}"; str += "\t\t\t
<input type='button' name='deleteButton' value='"+msgObj.buttonLabelDeleteGeometry+"' onclick=\""+deleteOnClickText+"\"/>
\n"; }} if (options[i] == "abort") { str += "\t\t\t

\n"; } if (options[i] == "pick") { var color; str += "

"; str += "

"; //color = document.getElementById('cPick').value; //var color2 = color; //alert(color2); } }str += "\t\t
\n";}str += "\t
\n";str += ""; //str += ""; str += "\n";}return str;} The Application: It is a Mapbender application to display maps and draw on it. You can draw points, lines and polygons also merge and split them. You can also select the polygons that you have drawn to alter them. Using: PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Mapbender, jQuery, Geoserver, PostgreSQL, WMS, WFS-T Sorry guys, but I think I'm wasting your time. Will ask this question in GIS specified Q&A. Thank you for the input. Greetings Joël

• Non-Mainstream Languages, Bad for your resume?

- by Joe
Hi folks, I got my BS in Computer Science about seven years ago. I spent two years in neuroscience research and the next three providing what amounts to tech support. But I love computer programming - and I have since written, as a freelancer, non-trivial commercial code in Haskell, Smalltalk, and Objective-C. I used these languages because I find them rewarding, they make me a better programmer and thus, I thought, more attractive to companies. However the polar opposite has occured and I am now unhireable. The freelance market has bottomed out and I am looking for regular employment. But I am being repeatedly turned down, even for entry-level positions, because I don't specifically fit the requirements - eg. Java programmer with 2+ years with JUnit, JavaMail, Servlets etc. And none of the hiring managers, let alone the recruiters, have heard of either Haskell or Smalltalk and more disturbing is their thinly veiled contempt for my background. My question is , how should I market myself to these positions? Is anyone here in a similar position? What should I be doing different professionally? More broadly is this contempt for non-mainstream experience occurring everywhere or just my town? And if there are any hiring managers reading this, I'd love to hear your side. Please be brutally honest. thanks, joe

• VB.NET, templates, reflection, inheritance, feeling adrift

- by brovar
I've just made myself up a problem and am now wondering how to solve it. To begin with, I'm using some third-party components, including some calendar controls like schedule and timeline. They're used in the project classes more or less like that: Friend Class TimeBasedDataView 'some members End Class Friend Class ScheduleDataView Inherits TimeBasedDataView Public Schedule As Controls.Schedule.Schedule 'and others End Class Friend Class TimeLineDataView Inherits TimeBasedDataView Public TimeLine As Controls.TimeLine.TimeLine 'and others End Class (Hmm, code coloring fail, never mind...) Now, to allow managing the look of data being presented there are some mechanisms including so called Style Managers. A lot of code in them repeats, varying almost only with the control it maintains: Friend Class TimeLineStyleManager Private m_TimeLine As TimeLineDataView Private Sub Whatever() m_TimeLine.TimeLine.SomeProperty = SomeValue End Sub End Class Friend Class ScheduleStyleManager Private m_Schedule As ScheduleDataView Private Sub Whatever() m_Schedule.Schedule.SomeProperty = SomeValue End Sub End Class I was wondering if I could create some base class for those managers, like Friend Class TimeBasedCtrlStyleManagerBase(Of T As TimeBasedDataView) Private m_Control As T 'and others End Class which would unify these two, but I've got lost when it came to maintaining two components that have nothing in common (except their properties' names, etc.). Type reflection maybe? I'll be grateful for any advice ;)

• StructureMap problems with bidirectional/circular dependencies

- by leozilla
I am currently integrating StructureMap within our business layer but have problems because of bidirectional dependencies. The layer contains multiple manager where each manager can call methods on each other, there are no restrictions or rules for communication. This also includes possible circular dependencies like in the example below. I know the design itself is questionable but currently we just want StructureMap to work and will focus on further refactoring in the future. Every manager implements the IManager interface internal interface IManager { bool IsStarted { get; } void Start(); void Stop(); } And does also have his own specific interface. internal interface IManagerA : IManager { void ALogic(); } internal interface IManagerB : IManager { void BLogic(); } Here are to dummy manager implementations. internal class ManagerA : IManagerA { public IManagerB ManagerB { get; set; } public void ALogic() { } public bool IsStarted { get; private set; } public void Start() { } public void Stop() { } } internal class ManagerB : IManagerB { public IManagerA ManagerA { get; set; } public void BLogic() { } public bool IsStarted { get; private set; } public void Start() { } public void Stop() { } } Here is the StructureMap configuration i use atm. I am still not sure how i should register the managers so currently i use a manual registration. Maybee someone could help me with this too. For<IManagerA>().Singleton().Use<ManagerA>(); For<IManagerB>().Singleton().Use<ManagerB>(); SetAllProperties(convention => { // configure the property injection for all managers convention.Matching(prop => typeof(IManager).IsAssignableFrom(prop.PropertyType)); }); After all i cannot create IManagerA because StructureMap complians about the circular dependency between ManagerA and ManagerB. Is there an easy and clean solution to solve this problem but keep to current design? br David

• Trying to get a better understanding of SelectedValuePath and IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem

The following XAML produces a run-time Binding error when I click on an item in the ListBox: <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:sys="clr-namespace:System;assembly=mscorlib" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="WpfApplication1.MainWindow" x:Name="Window" Title="MainWindow" Width="640" Height="480"> <Window.Resources> <x:Array x:Key="strings" Type="{x:Type sys:String}"> <sys:String>one</sys:String> <sys:String>two</sys:String> <sys:String>three</sys:String> <sys:String>four</sys:String> </x:Array> </Window.Resources> <Grid> <ListBox DataContext="{StaticResource strings}" IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem="True" ItemsSource="{Binding}" SelectedValuePath="{Binding /Length}"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Grid> <Grid.Resources>  </Grid.Resources> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition/> <ColumnDefinition/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition/> <RowDefinition/> </Grid.RowDefinitions>  String: <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="0" Text="{Binding}"/>  Length: <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" Grid.Row="1" Text="{Binding Length, Mode=Default}"/> </Grid> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </Grid> </Window> This is the run-time Binding error message: System.Windows.Data Error: 39 : BindingExpression path error: '3' property not found on 'object' ''String' (HashCode=1191344027)'. What is wrong with my SelectedValuePath Binding syntax? Are there any related issues with IsSynchronizedWithCurrentItem?

• Why does this valid Tkinter code crash when mixed with a bit of PyWin32?

- by Erlog
So I'm making a very small program for personal use in tkinter, and I've run into a really strange wall. I'm mixing tkinter with the pywin32 bindings because I really hate everything to do with the syntax and naming conventions of pywin32, and it feels like tkinter gets more done with far less code. The strangeness is happening in the transition between the pywin32 clipboard watching and my program's reaction to it in tkinter. My window and all its controls are being handled in tkinter. The pywin32 bindings are doing clipboard watching and clipboard access when the clipboard changes. From what I've gathered about the way the clipboard watching pieces of pywin32 work, you can make it work with anything you want as long as you provide pywin32 with the hwnd value of your window. I'm doing that part, and it works when the program first starts. It just doesn't seem to work when the clipboard changes. When the program launches, it grabs the clipboard and puts it into the search box and edit box just fine. When the clipboard is modified, the event I want to fire off is firing off...except that event that totally worked before when the program launched is now causing a weird hang instead of doing what it's supposed to do. I can print the clipboard contents to stdout all I want if the clipboard changes, but not put that same data into a tkinter widget. It only hangs like that if it starts to interact with any of my tkinter widgets after being fired off by a clipboard change notification. It feels like there's some pywin32 etiquette I've missed in adapting the clipboard-watching sample code I was using over to my tkinter-using program. Tkinter apparently doesn't like to produce stack traces or error messages, and I can't really even begin to know what to look for trying to debug it with pdb. Here's the code: #coding: utf-8 #Clipboard watching cribbed from ## {{{ http://code.activestate.com/recipes/355593/ (r1) import pdb from Tkinter import * import win32clipboard import win32api import win32gui import win32con import win32clipboard def force_unicode(object, encoding="utf-8"): if isinstance(object, basestring) and not isinstance(object, unicode): object = unicode(object, encoding) return object class Application(Frame): def __init__(self, master=None): self.master = master Frame.__init__(self, master) self.pack() self.createWidgets() self.hwnd = self.winfo_id() self.nextWnd = None self.first = True self.oldWndProc = win32gui.SetWindowLong(self.hwnd, win32con.GWL_WNDPROC, self.MyWndProc) try: self.nextWnd = win32clipboard.SetClipboardViewer(self.hwnd) except win32api.error: if win32api.GetLastError () == 0: # information that there is no other window in chain pass else: raise self.update_search_box() self.word_search() def word_search(self): #pdb.set_trace() term = self.searchbox.get() self.resultsbox.insert(END, term) def update_search_box(self): clipboardtext = "" if win32clipboard.IsClipboardFormatAvailable(win32clipboard.CF_TEXT): win32clipboard.OpenClipboard() clipboardtext = win32clipboard.GetClipboardData() win32clipboard.CloseClipboard() if clipboardtext != "": self.searchbox.delete(0,END) clipboardtext = force_unicode(clipboardtext) self.searchbox.insert(0, clipboardtext) def createWidgets(self): self.button = Button(self) self.button["text"] = "Search" self.button["command"] = self.word_search self.searchbox = Entry(self) self.resultsbox = Text(self) #Pack everything down here for "easy" layout changes later self.searchbox.pack() self.button.pack() self.resultsbox.pack() def MyWndProc (self, hWnd, msg, wParam, lParam): if msg == win32con.WM_CHANGECBCHAIN: self.OnChangeCBChain(msg, wParam, lParam) elif msg == win32con.WM_DRAWCLIPBOARD: self.OnDrawClipboard(msg, wParam, lParam) # Restore the old WndProc. • Flex: How to access movieclips within an imported swf

- by squared
Hello, I have imported a swf (not created with Flex, i.e. non-framework) into a Flex application. Once loaded, I would like to access movieclips within that imported swf. Looking at Adobe's docs (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=controls_15.html), it seems straightforward; however, their examples are between a Flex app and an imported swf (created with Flex). Like their example, I'm trying to use the SystemManager to access the imported swf's content; however, I receive the following error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::MovieClip@58ca241 to mx.managers.SystemManager. Is this error occurring because I'm importing a non-framework swf into a framework swf? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Code: <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute"> <mx:SWFLoader source="assets/test.swf" id="loader" creationComplete="swfLoaded()" /> <mx:Script> import mx.managers.SystemManager; [Bindable] public var loadedSM:SystemManager; private function swfLoaded():void { loadedSM = SystemManager(loader.content); } </mx:Script> </mx:Application>

• Why i cannot get the frame of a UIView in order to move it? The view is defined.

- by Jann
I am creating a nav-based app with a view that floats at the bottom of the screen (Alpha .7 most of the time). I create it like this... // stuff to create the tabbar/nav bar. // THIS ALL WORKS... // then add it to subview. [window addSubview:tabBarController.view]; // need this last line to display the window (and tab bar controller) [window makeKeyAndVisible]; // Okay, here is the code i am using to create a grey-ish strip exactly `zlocationAccuracyHeight` pixels high at `zlocationAccuracyVerticalStartPoint` starting point vertically. CGRect locationManagerAccuracyUIViewFrame = CGRectMake(0,zlocationAccuracyVerticalStartPoint,[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.width,zlocationAccuracyHeight); self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:locationManagerAccuracyUIViewFrame]; self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView.autoresizingMask = (UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth); self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView.backgroundColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor]; [self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView setAlpha:0]; CGRect locationManagerAccuracyLabelFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0,[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size.width,zlocationAccuracyHeight); locationManagerAccuracyLabel = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:locationManagerAccuracyLabelFrame]; if ([myGizmoClass useLocationServices] == 0) { locationManagerAccuracyLabel.text = @"GPS Accuracy: Using Manual Location"; } else { locationManagerAccuracyLabel.text = @"GPS Accuracy: One Moment Please..."; } locationManagerAccuracyLabel.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:12]; locationManagerAccuracyLabel.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; locationManagerAccuracyLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; locationManagerAccuracyLabel.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; [locationManagerAccuracyLabel setAlpha:0]; [self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView addSubview: locationManagerAccuracyLabel]; [window addSubview: self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView]; this all works (i am not sure about the order i create the uiview in ... meaning i am creating the frame, the view, creating the "accuracy text" and adding that to the view, then adding the uiview as a subview of the window . It works and seems correct in my logic. So, here is the tough part. I have a timer that i am testing with. I am trying to float the uiview up by 30 pix. here is that code: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.3]; CGRect rect = [ self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView frame]; NSLog(@"ORIGIN: %d x %d (%@)\n",rect.origin.x,rect.origin.y,rect); rect.origin.y -= 30; [UIView commitAnimations]; The problem? rect is nill, rect.origin.x and rect.origin.y are both zero. Can anyone tell me why? Here is how i set up self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView in my files: Delegate.h UIView *locationManagerAccuracyUIView; UILabel *locationManagerAccuracyLabel; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIView *locationManagerAccuracyUIView; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UILabel *locationManagerAccuracyLabel; Delegate.m ... @synthesize locationManagerAccuracyUIView; @synthesize locationManagerAccuracyLabel; ... BTW: Other places in another timer i DO set the alpha to fade in and out and THAT works! So locationManagerAccuracyUIView is valid and defined as a view... For instance: [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [locationManagerAccuracyLabel setAlpha:1]; [UIView commitAnimations]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.5]; [self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView setAlpha:.7]; [UIView commitAnimations]; ...and it DOES work. Can anyone help me? As an aside: I know, when typing this I used self.locationManagerAccuracyUIView and locationManagerAccuracyUIView interchangeably to see if for some reason that was the issue. It is not. :) Thx

• MVC design in Cocoa - are all 3 always necessary? Also: naming conventions, where to put Controller

- by Nektarios
I'm new to MVC although I've read a lot of papers and information on the web. I know it's somewhat ambiguous and there are many different interpretations of MVC patterns.. but the differences seem somewhat minimal My main question is - are M, V, and C always going to be necessary to be doing this right? I haven't seen anyone address this in anything I've read. Examples (I'm working in Cocoa/Obj-c although that shouldn't much matter).. 1) If I have a simple image on my GUI, or a text entry field that is just for a user's convenience and isn't saved or modified, these both would be V (view) but there's no M (no data and no domain processing going on), and no C to bridge them. So I just have some aspects that are "V" - seems fine 2) I have 2 different and visible windows that each have a button on them labeled as "ACTIVATE FOO" - when a user clicks the button on either, both buttons press in and change to say "DEACTIVATE FOO" and a third window appears with label "FOO". Clicking the button again will change the button on both windows to "ACTIVATE FOO" and will remove the third "FOO" window. In this case, my V consists of the buttons on both windows, and I guess also the third window (maybe all 3 windows). I definitely have a C, my Controller object will know about these buttons and windows and will get their clicks and hold generic states regarding windows and buttons. However, whether I have 1 button or 10 button, my window is called "FOO" or my window is called "BAR", this doesn't matter. There's no domain knowledge or data here - just control of views. So in this example, I really have "V" and "C" but no "M" - is that ok? 3) Final example, which I am running in to the most. I have a text entry field as my View. When I enter text in this, say a number representing gravity, I keep it in a Model that may do things like compute physics of a ball while taking in to account my gravity parameter. Here I have a V and an M, but I don't understand why I would need to add a C - a controller would just accept the signals from the View and pass it along to the Model, and vice versa. Being as the C is just a pure passthrough, it's really "junk" code and isn't making things any more reusable in my opinion. In most situations, when something changes I will need to change the C and M both in nearly identical ways. I realize it's probably an MVC beginner's mistake to think most situations call for only V and M.. leads me in to next subject 4) In Cocoa / Xcode / IB, I guess my Controllers should always be an instantiated object in IB? That is, I lay all of my "V" components in IB, and for each collection of View objects (things that are related) I should have an instantiated Controller? And then perhaps my Models should NOT be found in IB, and instead only found as classes in Xcode that tie in with Controller code found there. Is this accurate? This could explain why you'd have a Controller that is not really adding value - because you are keeping consistent.. 5) What about naming these things - for my above example about FOO / BAR maybe something that ends in Controller would be the C, like FancyWindowOpeningController, etc? And for models - should I suffix them with like GravityBallPhysicsModel etc, or should I just name those whatever I like? I haven't seen enough code to know what's out there in the wild and I want to get on the right track early on Thank you in advance for setting me straight or letting me know I'm on the right track. I feel like I'm starting to get it and most of what I say here makes sense, but validation of my guessing would help me feel confident..

• Multiple Inheritence with same Base Classes in Python

- by Jordan Reiter
I'm trying to wrap my head around multiple inheritance in python. Suppose I have the following base class: class Structure(object): def build(self, *args): print "I am building a structure!" self.components = args And let's say I have two classes that inherit from it: class House(Structure): def build(self, *args): print "I am building a house!" super(House, self).build(*args) class School(Structure): def build(self, type="Elementary", *args): print "I am building a school!" super(School, self).build(*args) Finally, a create a class that uses multiple inheritance: class SchoolHouse(School, House): def build(self, *args): print "I am building a schoolhouse!" super(School, self).build(*args) Then, I create a SchoolHouse object and run build on it: >>> sh = SchoolHouse() >>> sh.build("roof", "walls") I am building a schoolhouse! I am building a house! I am building a structure! So I'm wondering -- what happened to the School class? Is there any way to get Python to run both somehow? I'm wondering specifically because there are a fair number of Django packages out there that provide custom Managers for models. But there doesn't appear to be a way to combine them without writing one or the other of the Managers as inheriting from the other one. It'd be nice to just import both and use both somehow, but looks like it can't be done? Also I guess it'd just help to be pointed to a good primer on multiple inheritance in Python. I have done some work with Mixins before and really enjoy using them. I guess I just wonder if there is any elegant way to combine functionality from two different classes when they inherit from the same base class.

I am using the PHP Facebook SDK to leverage the Facebook registration/login plugin. I am referring to: http://www.masteringapi.com/tutorials/how-to-use-facebook-registration-plugin-as-your-registration-system/15/ Currently, the browser redirects away from the registration page, no matter if I am signed in to Facebook or not.

window.fbAsyncInit = function() { FB.init({ appId: '<?php echo $facebook->getAppID() ?>', cookie: true, xfbml: true, oauth: true }); FB.Event.subscribe('auth.login', function(response) { window.location.reload(); }); FB.Event.subscribe('auth.logout', function(response) { window.location.reload(); }); <?php if($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] == '/register/index.php'){?> FB.getLoginStatus(function(response) { if (response.status == "connected" || response.status == "unknown") { window.location = "http://<?=SITE_HOST?>/"; } }); <?php }?> }; (function() { var e = document.createElement('script'); e.async = true; e.src = document.location.protocol + '//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js'; document.getElementById('fb-root').appendChild(e); }()); The part that is causing this unwanted redirect is this: <?php if($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'] == '/register/index.php'){?> FB.getLoginStatus(function(response) { if (response.status == "connected" || response.status == "unknown") { window.location = "http://<?=SITE_HOST?>/"; } }); <?php }?> This function is supposed to redirect a "connected"1 user, away from the registration page. Unfortunately, even when I access this page from a brand-new browser (Firefox, just installed, which means no cookies or sessions exist) and I am still redirected. Note the PHP code below[2]. Also, the SITE_HOST is a constant for the www. address. I think the actual condition that is being met is response.status being equal to "unknown". This status check implies an unsuccessful response from Facebook, right? Without this getLoginStatus check in the code, it will actually load the the registration page, and a Facebook registration form: Note how it says: "You have registered", which I did a month ago (assuming this qualification is met by allowing the Facebook App permissions, which was done when I initially installed the Facebook SDK). So why would the redirect code work for me (seemingly), then still redirect me when I am using a browser NOT signed in to Facebook? Also, the jQuery function at the bottom of the script loads all.js. This is all I need, right? Footnotes: Someone with "connected" status is logged in to Facebook and has approved your Facebook App permissions. No matter which page this was on it caused this, and since this code appears in a global include file, I've restricting from printing to only on the registration page, which was the intention for this code to my understanding.

• Better Way To Use C++ Named Parameter Idiom?

- by Head Geek
I've been developing a GUI library for Windows (as a personal side project, no aspirations of usefulness). For my main window class, I've set up a hierarchy of option classes (using the Named Parameter Idiom), because some options are shared and others are specific to particular types of windows (like dialogs). The way the Named Parameter Idiom works, the functions of the parameter class have to return the object they're called on. The problem is that, in the hierarchy, each one has to be a different class -- the createWindowOpts class for standard windows, the createDialogOpts class for dialogs, and the like. I've dealt with that by making all the option classes templates. Here's an example: template <class T> class _sharedWindowOpts: public detail::_baseCreateWindowOpts { public: /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // No required parameters in this case. _sharedWindowOpts() { }; typedef T optType; // Commonly used options optType& at(int x, int y) { mX=x; mY=y; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Where to put the upper-left corner of the window; if not specified, the system sets it to a default position optType& at(int x, int y, int width, int height) { mX=x; mY=y; mWidth=width; mHeight=height; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Sets the position and size of the window in a single call optType& background(HBRUSH b) { mBackground=b; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Sets the default background to this brush optType& background(INT_PTR b) { mBackground=HBRUSH(b+1); return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Sets the default background to one of the COLOR_* colors; defaults to COLOR_WINDOW optType& cursor(HCURSOR c) { mCursor=c; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Sets the default mouse cursor for this window; defaults to the standard arrow optType& hidden() { mStyle&=~WS_VISIBLE; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Windows are visible by default optType& icon(HICON iconLarge, HICON iconSmall=0) { mIcon=iconLarge; mSmallIcon=iconSmall; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Specifies the icon, and optionally a small icon // ...Many others removed... }; template <class T> class _createWindowOpts: public _sharedWindowOpts<T> { public: /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// _createWindowOpts() { }; // These can't be used with child windows, or aren't needed optType& menu(HMENU m) { mMenuOrId=m; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Gives the window a menu optType& owner(HWND hwnd) { mParentOrOwner=hwnd; return static_cast<optType&>(*this); }; // Sets the optional parent/owner }; class createWindowOpts: public _createWindowOpts<createWindowOpts> { public: /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// createWindowOpts() { }; }; It works, but as you can see, it requires a noticeable amount of extra work: a type-cast on the return type for each function, extra template classes, etcetera. My question is, is there an easier way to implement the Named Parameter Idiom in this case, one that doesn't require all the extra stuff?

• Silverlight Tree View with Multiple Levels

- by psheriff
There are many examples of the Silverlight Tree View that you will find on the web, however, most of them only show you how to go to two levels. What if you have more than two levels? This is where understanding exactly how the Hierarchical Data Templates works is vital. In this blog post, I am going to break down how these templates work so you can really understand what is going on underneath the hood. To start, let’s look at the typical two-level Silverlight Tree View that has been hard coded with the values shown below: <sdk:TreeView> <sdk:TreeViewItem Header="Managers"> <TextBlock Text="Michael" /> <TextBlock Text="Paul" /> </sdk:TreeViewItem> <sdk:TreeViewItem Header="Supervisors"> <TextBlock Text="John" /> <TextBlock Text="Tim" /> <TextBlock Text="David" /> </sdk:TreeViewItem></sdk:TreeView> Figure 1 shows you how this tree view looks when you run the Silverlight application. Figure 1: A hard-coded, two level Tree View. Next, let’s create three classes to mimic the hard-coded Tree View shown above. First, you need an Employee class and an EmployeeType class. The Employee class simply has one property called Name. The constructor is created to accept a “name” argument that you can use to set the Name property when you create an Employee object. public class Employee{ public Employee(string name) { Name = name; } public string Name { get; set; }} Finally you create an EmployeeType class. This class has one property called EmpType and contains a generic List<> collection of Employee objects. The property that holds the collection is called Employees. public class EmployeeType{ public EmployeeType(string empType) { EmpType = empType; Employees = new List<Employee>(); } public string EmpType { get; set; } public List<Employee> Employees { get; set; }} Finally we have a collection class called EmployeeTypes created using the generic List<> class. It is in the constructor for this class where you will build the collection of EmployeeTypes and fill it with Employee objects: public class EmployeeTypes : List<EmployeeType>{ public EmployeeTypes() { EmployeeType type; type = new EmployeeType("Manager"); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Michael")); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Paul")); this.Add(type); type = new EmployeeType("Project Managers"); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Tim")); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("John")); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("David")); this.Add(type); }} You now have a data hierarchy in memory (Figure 2) which is what the Tree View control expects to receive as its data source. Figure 2: A hierachial data structure of Employee Types containing a collection of Employee objects. To connect up this hierarchy of data to your Tree View you create an instance of the EmployeeTypes class in XAML as shown in line 13 of Figure 3. The key assigned to this object is “empTypes”. This key is used as the source of data to the entire Tree View by setting the ItemsSource property as shown in Figure 3, Callout #1. Figure 3: You need to start from the bottom up when laying out your templates for a Tree View. The ItemsSource property of the Tree View control is used as the data source in the Hierarchical Data Template with the key of employeeTypeTemplate. In this case there is only one Hierarchical Data Template, so any data you wish to display within that template comes from the collection of Employee Types. The TextBlock control in line 20 uses the EmpType property of the EmployeeType class. You specify the name of the Hierarchical Data Template to use in the ItemTemplate property of the Tree View (Callout #2). For the second (and last) level of the Tree View control you use a normal <DataTemplate> with the name of employeeTemplate (line 14). The Hierarchical Data Template in lines 17-21 sets its ItemTemplate property to the key name of employeeTemplate (Line 19 connects to Line 14). The source of the data for the <DataTemplate> needs to be a property of the EmployeeTypes collection used in the Hierarchical Data Template. In this case that is the Employees property. In the Employees property there is a “Name” property of the Employee class that is used to display the employee name in the second level of the Tree View (Line 15). What is important here is that your lowest level in your Tree View is expressed in a <DataTemplate> and should be listed first in your Resources section. The next level up in your Tree View should be a <HierarchicalDataTemplate> which has its ItemTemplate property set to the key name of the <DataTemplate> and the ItemsSource property set to the data you wish to display in the <DataTemplate>. The Tree View control should have its ItemsSource property set to the data you wish to display in the <HierarchicalDataTemplate> and its ItemTemplate property set to the key name of the <HierarchicalDataTemplate> object. It is in this way that you get the Tree View to display all levels of your hierarchical data structure. Three Levels in a Tree View Now let’s expand upon this concept and use three levels in our Tree View (Figure 4). This Tree View shows that you now have EmployeeTypes at the top of the tree, followed by a small set of employees that themselves manage employees. This means that the EmployeeType class has a collection of Employee objects. Each Employee class has a collection of Employee objects as well. Figure 4: When using 3 levels in your TreeView you will have 2 Hierarchical Data Templates and 1 Data Template. The EmployeeType class has not changed at all from our previous example. However, the Employee class now has one additional property as shown below: public class Employee{ public Employee(string name) { Name = name; ManagedEmployees = new List<Employee>(); } public string Name { get; set; } public List<Employee> ManagedEmployees { get; set; }} The next thing that changes in our code is the EmployeeTypes class. The constructor now needs additional code to create a list of managed employees. Below is the new code. public class EmployeeTypes : List<EmployeeType>{ public EmployeeTypes() { EmployeeType type; Employee emp; Employee managed; type = new EmployeeType("Manager"); emp = new Employee("Michael"); managed = new Employee("John"); emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed); managed = new Employee("Tim"); emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed); type.Employees.Add(emp); emp = new Employee("Paul"); managed = new Employee("Michael"); emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed); managed = new Employee("Sara"); emp.ManagedEmployees.Add(managed); type.Employees.Add(emp); this.Add(type); type = new EmployeeType("Project Managers"); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("Tim")); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("John")); type.Employees.Add(new Employee("David")); this.Add(type); }} Now that you have all of the data built in your classes, you are now ready to hook up this three-level structure to your Tree View. Figure 5 shows the complete XAML needed to hook up your three-level Tree View. You can see in the XAML that there are now two Hierarchical Data Templates and one Data Template. Again you list the Data Template first since that is the lowest level in your Tree View. The next Hierarchical Data Template listed is the next level up from the lowest level, and finally you have a Hierarchical Data Template for the first level in your tree. You need to work your way from the bottom up when creating your Tree View hierarchy. XAML is processed from the top down, so if you attempt to reference a XAML key name that is below where you are referencing it from, you will get a runtime error. Figure 5: For three levels in a Tree View you will need two Hierarchical Data Templates and one Data Template. Each Hierarchical Data Template uses the previous template as its ItemTemplate. The ItemsSource of each Hierarchical Data Template is used to feed the data to the previous template. This is probably the most confusing part about working with the Tree View control. You are expecting the content of the current Hierarchical Data Template to use the properties set in the ItemsSource property of that template. But you need to look to the template lower down in the XAML to see the source of the data as shown in Figure 6. Figure 6: The properties you use within the Content of a template come from the ItemsSource of the next template in the resources section. Summary Understanding how to put together your hierarchy in a Tree View is simple once you understand that you need to work from the bottom up. Start with the bottom node in your Tree View and determine what that will look like and where the data will come from. You then build the next Hierarchical Data Template to feed the data to the previous template you created. You keep doing this for each level in your Tree View until you get to the last level. The data for that last Hierarchical Data Template comes from the ItemsSource in the Tree View itself. • Xorg server won't start after fresh install of Debian 5.04, screen goes blank (Intel Atom D510(Pinet

- by Kamil Zadora
Hello, I have installed Debian 5.04 Lenny on my new Intel D510MO motheboard. I fixed some issues with incorrect drive mapping (for some reason during installation my hdd was on sdb, after a restart it is under sda - fixed in grub), and now I am struggling with getting graphical enviroment up and running, I installed the graphical enviroment using the Debian installer. I am not an linux expert by any means, I assume that I need to edit the xorg.conf file. Any hints appreciated! UPDATE1: No change after dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg Here is my current xorg.conf: # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" Driver "kbd" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" Option "XkbModel" "pc105" Option "XkbLayout" "pl" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" EndSection UPDATE2: I have installed vnc4server package. I can connect over vnc from my windows 7 laptop and i see empty desktop with terminal window open. Seems that the xserver and gdm are running but they cant talk with my GPU. I am not sure if a can use any gui tool to configure it overthe vnc, as all I see is the terminal window, no taskbars etc. UPDATE3: My current Xorg.0.log http://pastebin.pl/18918 The graphic chipset integrated into the D510 processor is Intel 945GC

• SSL certificate on IIS 7

- by comii
I am trying to install a SSL certificate on IIS 7. I have download a free trial certificate. After that, this is the steps what I do: Click the Start menu and select Administrative Tools. Start Internet Services Manager and click the Server Name. In the center section, double click on the Server Certificates button in the Security section. From the Actions menu click Complete Certificate Request. Enter the location for the certificate file. Enter a Friendly name. Click OK. Under Sites select the site to be secured with the SSL certificate. From the Actions menu, click Bindings.This will open the Site Bindings window. In the Site Bindings window, click Add. This opens the Add Site Binding window. Select https from the Type menu. Set the port to 443. Select the SSL Certificate you just installed from the SSL Certificate menu. Click OK. This is the step where I get the message: One or more intermediate certificates in the certificate chain are missing. To resolve this issue, make sure that all of intermediate certificates are installed. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954755 After this, when I access the web site on its first page, I get this message: There is a problem with this website's security certificate. What am I doing wrong?

• Windows 8 DLNA streaming of MKV files

- by dbb
I have a Samsung TV that is capable of playing MKV files. The Windows DLNA Play To menu that appears when you right-click a media file does not support MKV files, but a simple trick has been to change the file extension from .mkv to .avi so the Play To context menu item would appear. At that point I could successfully stream from my computer to my TV. However, this does not appear to work in Windows 8. Doing the same thing in Windows 8 causes the Play To window to open but the file does not get played. Dragging and dropping the file in the Play To window causes it to be silently ignored. Using actual AVI, MP4, etc. files works, of course. It appears Windows 8 is now doing some kind of validation on the file that Windows 7 wasn't previously. The Play To window does not show any kind of obvious error message or warning and there is nothing in the Windows event log. So, is there a way in Windows 8 to stream MKV files to a DLNA device without converting it to another container format? I would rather not use extra third-party software, but I would consider it if it's purposefully designed for this simple case rather than a more robust "media library/server" solution.

• Open Office crashes, recovers, crashes again

- by Daniel R Hicks
After completely reinstalling my laptop due to apparent registry corruption, I've encountered a problem with Open Office: I open a simple Calc spreadsheet, it comes up normally, but then after anywhere from 5 seconds to several minutes (without even touching the Calc window) OO crashes, then comes up through recovery. If I let it "recover" it will do so and bring the spreadsheet up again, only to repeat the crash scenario again. If I kept clicking "OK" it would apparently do this all day. I reinstalled OO once and the problem went away for awhile, but it came back. I then attempted to "reset" my profile (ie, rename the OO user directory in App Data), but OO crashed during the first startup after that, then resumed the original behavior. If I open the same file using Excel it complains of errors in the file, and "recovers" them, but the "error report" it generates contains no details. If I save the "recovered" file then OO Calc will open it, but the problem returns after saving again. Any ideas? (The system is Vista SP2, running OO 3.4.1) How to reproduce: Start Open Office Calc. Save workspace as "CrashTest.ods" From Task Manager kill Open Office (soffice.exe/bin -- one of each) Double click on the saved "CrashTest.ods" in Explorer. OO puts up a message that recovery will occur -- allow it. When the Calc window comes up, don't touch it -- just wait about 10 seconds. Calc window closes and OO puts up a message that recovery will occur -- from now on the sequence will repeat. I suspect this behavior is limited to a few (recent) versions of OO, and very possibly only Calc. Reported as Open Office Bug 1211094. Sigh!! As much as it irritates me, I'm having to switch over to Excel for several things I used to do with Calc. Excel has a miserable UI, but at least it says up for longer than 10 seconds.

• Explorer and open file dialog not responding (Vista)

- by rohancragg
Any explorer window opened for the first time on my machine causes the explorer window to display the folders tree and folder path in the address bar immediately but the file/folder list pane is blank and the window displays 'Not Responding' in the title bar, this hangs for up to a minute or more. Any file dialog displays 'Not Responding' in the title bar. The files list is eventually displayed after a few seconds or more. Steps to repro: Close all open instances of explorer Windows Key | Run | [enter a folder path such as 'c:\temp'] Or within any app: use a file open / save dialog Once there is at least one open instance of explorer the performance is still fairly poor but not nearly so bad and file lists are displayed in a timely fashion. What I've tried: Cleaned up registry with CCleaner tool, and uninstalled all other unused software Checked nothing unwanted running at startup with Autoruns Removed any ISO burner/recorder/mount software Still to try Get latest version of everything - especially stuff with shell extension behaviour such as TortoiseSVN Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks alot. Update I'm wondering if this is related, I'll try the hotfix when I get home and report back: KB972685 - FIX:Explorer.exe hangs when using a shell extension written using MFC Update 2 Before I got a chance to try the hotfix it seems one of the above actions fixed this for me; either the removal of IsoRecorder or TortoiseHg (which I was no longer using anyway). Update 3 A similar issue with Explorer.exe has come back since installing TortoiseHg 1.01 :-(
