  • How can I use a parent content control from a sub binding?

    - by MGSoto
    I have the following code currently: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:SectionViewModel}"> <ScrollViewer> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding ViewModels}"> <Grid/> </ItemsControl> </ScrollViewer> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type vm:StringViewModel}"> <Label Name="Left" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Content="{Binding Label}"/> <TextBox Name="Right" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Value}"/> </DataTemplate> The ViewModels property bound to SectionViewModel ItemsControl is a list of StringViewModel. I want to insert each StringViewModel into some sort of content control in the ItemsControl. Originally I just had each StringViewModel to make its own Grid, but that left things unaligned. I'd like to insert these items into some sort of content control in ItemsControl, it doesn't necessarily have to be a grid, but it should be within the ItemsControl. How can I do this? I'm also following MVVM, using MVVM Light.

  • When NOT to use MVVM?

    - by Vitalij
    I have started using MVVM pattern recently. I have had several projects where I used it and with every new one, I start to see that it will fit great within that new project. And now I start to ask myself are there situation when it's better NOT to use MVVM. Or is it such a nice pattern which you can use anywhere? Could you please describe several scenarios where MVVM wouldn't be the best choice?

I would like to display the amount of addresses for that person ie: 5 or 6 or whatever the case may be. I've tried {Binding Path=address#.Count} and a few others but that doesnt seem to work. • Textblock doesnt get updated when rendered in memory?

    - by veechi
    I have a text block which as part of a custom control.I added the custom control as a child of grid which in turn is added as child of a Canvas.All of these contorl are instantiated in memory and are not rendered on the UI.When I update the value of the TextBlock and emboss the canvas on an image, the updated value doesnt appear on the embossed image.Here is the code snippet:- System.Windows.Controls.Canvas embossCanvas = new System.Windows.Controls.Canvas(); System.Windows.Controls.Grid grid = new Grid(); MyControl myctrl= new MyControl(); int wd = (int)myctrl.ActualWidth; int ht = (int)myctrl.ActualHeight; embossCanvas.Width = wd; embossCanvas.Height = ht; grid.Children.Add(myctrl); embossCanvas.Children.Add(grid); myctrl.txtBlk.UpdateLayout(); grid.UpdateLayout(); embossCanvas.Measure(new System.Windows.Size(embossCanvas.Width, embossCanvas.Height)); embossCanvas.Arrange(new System.Windows.Rect(0, 0, embossCanvas.Width, (int)embossCanvas.Height)); embossCanvas.UpdateLayout(); RenderTargetBitmap renderBmp = new RenderTargetBitmap(wd, ht, 96, 96, System.Windows.Media.PixelFormats.Default); renderBmp.Render(embossCanvas);

  • How to have a user control as a ListBoxItem

    - by Harry
    I want to bind a user control (View) to a ListBoxItem. The ListBox is bound to a collection of ViewModels. I have set the ListBox's ItemTemplate as so: <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <View:ContactView/> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> But all I get are blank ListBoxItems. I can click on them, but nothing is showing visually. My ContactView code is very simply: <Border> <DockPanel> <StackPanel DockPanel.Dock="Right" Orientation="Vertical"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ContactFirstName, FallbackValue=FirstName}" FontWeight="Bold" Margin="5, 0, 5, 0"></TextBlock> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ContactLastName, FallbackValue=LastName}" FontWeight="Bold" Margin="5, 0, 5, 0"></TextBlock> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=ContactNumber, FallbackValue=Number}" Margin="5, 0, 5, 0"></TextBlock> </StackPanel> </DockPanel> </Border> What could be wrong with this? Thanks.

  • How can data templates in generic.xaml get applied automatically?

    - by Thiado de Arruda
    I have a custom control that has a ContentPresenter that will have an arbitrary object set as it content. This object does not have any constraint on its type, so I want this control to display its content based on any data templates defined by application or by data templates defined in Generic.xaml. If in a application I define some data template(without a key because I want it to be applied automatically to objects of that type) and I use the custom control bound to an object of that type, the data template gets applied automatically. But I have some data templates defined for some types in the generic.xaml where I define the custom control style, and these templates are not getting applied automatically. Here is the generic.xaml : If I set an object of type 'PredefinedType' as the content in the contentpresenter, the data template does not get applied. However, If it works if I define the data template in the app.xaml for the application thats using the custom control. Does someone got a clue? I really cant assume that the user of the control will define this data template, so I need some way to tie it up with the custom control.

  • How to design parts of the application in XAML and how to reusing it then?

    - by MartyIX
    I'm working on a main window in my application and I would like to design parts of my window separately in Visual Studio designer. Main window Game desk (actually more of them and therefore it would be nice to design the game desk, mark it as a resource and then just via simple code (something like creating a new object and setting DataContext) create it. Console And so on Is it possible in VS to do this thing? I just need to know what to look for if it is possible. I don't need a whole solution. Thank you for suggestions!

  • Binding in ContentControl Crash

    - by ImJames
    Can anyone tell me why this crashes my app? There seems to be some endless recursion by I can't figure out why. I get this exception Logical tree depth exceeded while traversing the tree. This could indicate a cycle in the tree <ContentControl Content="{Binding}"> <ContentControl.ContentTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Button Content="{Binding MyString}"/> </DataTemplate> </ContentControl.ContentTemplate> </ContentControl> And this is all I have as Source public MainWindow() { InitializeComponent(); MyString = "Test"; this.DataContext = this; } public string MyString { get; set; }

  • Setting Image.Source doesn't update when loading from a resource.

    - by ChrisF
    I've got this definition in my XAML: <Image Name="AlbumArt" Source="/AlbumChooser2;component/Resources/help.png" /> The image is display OK on startup. In my code I'm looking for mp3's to play and I display the associated album art in this Image. Now if there's no associated image I want to display a "no image" image. So I've got one defined and I load it using: BitmapImage noImage = new BitmapImage( new Uri("/AlbumChooser2;component/Resources/no_image.png", UriKind.Relative)); I've got a helper class that finds the image if there is one (returning it as a BitmapImage), or returns null if there isn't one: if (findImage.Image != null) { this.AlbumArt.Source = findImage.Image; // This works } else { this.AlbumArt.Source = noImage; // This doesn't work } In the case where an image is found the source is updated and the album art gets displayed. In the case where an image isn't found I don't get anything displayed - just a blank. I don't think that it's the setting of AlbumArt.Source that's wrong, but the loading of the BitmapImage. If I use a different image it works, but if I recreate the image it doesn't work. What could be wrong with the image?

  • What do you name the "other" kind of view-model in an MVVM project?

    - by DanM
    With MVVM, I think of a view-model as a class that provides all the data and commands that a view needs to bind to. But what happens when I have a database entity object, say a Customer, and I want to build a class that shapes or flattens the Customer class for use in a data grid. For example, maybe this special Customer object would have a property TotalOrders, which is actually calculated using a join with a collection of Order entities. My question is, what do I call this special Customer class? In other situations, I'd be tempted to call it a CustomerViewModel, but I feel like "overloading" the notion of a view-model like this would be confusing in an MVVM project. What would you suggest?

  • #region is XAML

    I actually don't link #region in my code. BUT for some reason call me crazy, I would like to have them in my XAML. I would like whole sections to have a #region-like thing and collapse them (e.g. my <Window.CommandBindings, <Grid.*Definitions, <Menu, <Toolbar, etc.. Does this exist? If not, how about <RegionCollapse

  • A new MEF error I've not seen before -- "The export is not assignable to type..."

    - by Dave
    I was very surprised to get this error today, as it's one that I've never encountered before. Everything in the code looked okay, so I did some searches. The previous questions and their respective answers didn't help. This one was solved when the poster made sure his assembly references were consistent. I don't have this issue right now because I'm currently referencing another project in my solution. This one was solved when the poster was instructed to use ImportMany, but I am already using it (I think properly, too) to try to load multiple plugins This one was solved when the poster realized that there was a platform target mismatch. I've already gone through my projects to ensure that everything targets x86. So here's what I am trying to do. I have a plugin that owns a connection to a device. I might also need to be able to share that connection with another plugin. I decided that the cleanest way to do this was to create an interface that would allow the slave plugin to request its own connection to the device. Let's just call it IConnectionSharer. If the slave plugin does not need to borrow this connection and has its own, then it should use its own implementation of IConnectionSharer to connect to the device. My "master" plugin (the one that owns the connection to the device) implements IConnectionSharer. It also exports this via ExportAttribute. My "slave" plugin assembly defines a class that also implements and exports IConnectionSharer. When the application loads, the intent is for my slave plugin, via MEF, to enumerate all IConnectionSharers and store them in an IEnumerable<IConnectionSharer>. It does so like this: [ImportMany] public IEnumerable<IConnectionSharer> AllSharedConnections { get; set; } But during part composition, I get the error the export 'Company.MasterPlugin (ContractName="IConnectionSharer")' is not assignable to type 'IConnectionSharer'. The error message itself seems clear enough -- it's as if MEF thinks my master plugin doesn't inherit from IConnectionSharer... but it does! Can anyone suggest further debugging strategies? I'm going to start the painful process of single stepping through the MEF source.

  • How to remove the shadow from a librarystack

    - by red-X
    I'm currently in a project where I need a LibraryStack with no visuals at all, so it would just show the content. If I just remove the background a shadow stays in view which I cant seem to remove... This code looks like: <s:LibraryStack Background="Transparent"> <s:LibraryStackItem Background="AliceBlue"/> <s:LibraryStackItem Background="Bisque"/> <s:LibraryStackItem Background="Salmon"/> </s:LibraryStack> This stack is just for explaining purposes, the actual stack is added in the code behind in c#. So preferably any answers that would be usefull to add in c#.

  • ListBox content does not resize when window is made smaller

    - by DamonGant
    I'm using .NET 4.0 (not .NET 4.0 CP) and have run into this kinda unique issue. I created a ListBox to display bound elements, first off here is (a part) of my XAML. <Grid Grid.Row="2" Background="#EEEEEE"> <Border Margin="6,10,10,10" BorderBrush="#666666" BorderThickness="1"> <ListBox ItemsSource="{Binding}" Name="appList" BorderThickness="0" HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="80" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Border Grid.Column="0" Margin="5" BorderThickness="3" CornerRadius="2" BorderBrush="Black" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" x:Name="ItemBorder"> <Image Width="64" Height="64" Source="{Binding Path=IconUri}" Stretch="UniformToFill" /> </Border> <StackPanel Margin="0,5,5,5" Grid.Column="1" Orientation="Vertical" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <TextBlock FontSize="18" Text="{Binding Path=DisplayName}" /> <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="60"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ProgressBar Grid.Column="0" Height="24" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" IsIndeterminate="{Binding Path=IsDiscovering}" Value="{Binding Path=PercentageDownloaded}" /> <TextBlock Grid.Column="1" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center"><TextBlock x:Name="percentageDownloaded" /><TextBlock x:Name="percentageMeter">%</TextBlock></TextBlock> </Grid> </StackPanel> </Grid> <DataTemplate.Triggers> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding Path=IsDiscovering}"> <DataTrigger.Value>True</DataTrigger.Value> <Setter TargetName="percentageDownloaded" Property="Text" Value="N/A" /> <Setter TargetName="percentageMeter" Property="Visibility" Value="Collapsed" /> </DataTrigger> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding Path=IsDiscovering}"> <DataTrigger.Value>False</DataTrigger.Value> <Setter TargetName="percentageDownloaded" Property="Text" Value="{Binding Path=PercentageDownloaded}" /> <Setter TargetName="percentageMeter" Property="Visibility" Value="Visible" /> </DataTrigger> </DataTemplate.Triggers> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </Border> </Grid> Sizing the window up stretches the ListBox content just fine, but when I size it down, it retains it's width and spawns vertical scrollbars.

  • How do I build a DataTemplate in c# code?

    - by Russ
    I am trying to build a dropdown list for a winform interop, and I am building the dropdown in code. However, I am having a problem getting the data to bind based on the DataTemplate I specify. What am I missing? drpCreditCardNumberWpf = new ComboBox(); DataTemplate cardLayout = new DataTemplate {DataType = typeof (CreditCardPayment)}; StackPanel sp = new StackPanel { Orientation = System.Windows.Controls.Orientation.Vertical }; TextBlock cardHolder = new TextBlock {ToolTip = "Card Holder Name"}; cardHolder.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, "BillToName"); sp.Children.Add(cardHolder); TextBlock cardNumber = new TextBlock {ToolTip = "Credit Card Number"}; cardNumber.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, "SafeNumber"); sp.Children.Add(cardNumber); TextBlock notes = new TextBlock {ToolTip = "Notes"}; notes.SetBinding(TextBlock.TextProperty, "Notes"); sp.Children.Add(notes); cardLayout.Resources.Add(sp, null); drpCreditCardNumberWpf.ItemTemplate = cardLayout;

  • INotifyPropertyChanged Setter Style

    - by Ivovic
    In order to reflect changes in your data to the UI you have to implement INotifyPropertyChanged, okay. If I look at examples, articles, tutorials etc most of the time the setters look like something in that manner: public string MyProperty { //get [...] set { if (_correspondingField == value) { return; } _correspondingField = value; OnPropertyChanged("MyProperty"); } } No problem so far, only raise the event if you have to, cool. But you could rewrite this code to this: public string MyProperty { //get [...] set { if (_correspondingField != value) { _correspondingField = value; OnPropertyChanged("MyProperty"); } } } It should do the same (?), you only have one place of return, it is less code, it is less boring code and it is more to the point ("only act if necessary" vs "if not necessary do nothing, the other way round act"). So if the second version has its pros compared to the first one, why I see this style rarely? I don't consider myself being smarter than those people that write frameworks, published articles etc, therefore the second version has to have drawbacks. Or is it wrong? Or do I think too much? Thanks in advance

  • MVVM Binding To Property == Null

    - by LnDCobra
    I want to show some elements when a property is not null. What is the best way of achieving this? The following is my ViewModel: class ViewModel : ViewModelBase { public Trade Trade { get { return _trade; } set { SetField(ref _trade, value, () => Trade); } } private Trade _trade; } ViewModelBase inherits INotifyPropertyChanged and contains SetField() The Following is the Trade class: public class Trade : INotifyPropertyChaged { public virtual Company Company { get { return _company; } set { SetField(ref _company, value, () => Company); } } private Company _company; ...... } This is part of my View.xaml <GroupBox Visibility="{Binding Path=Trade.Company, Converter={StaticResource boolToVisConverter}}" /> I would like this groupbox to show only if Trade.Company is not null (so when a user selects a company). Would I need to create a custom converter to check for null and return the correct visibility or is there one in .NET?

  • Can anyone provide a good "idiot's guide" to creating an installer in VS2008 (C#) Pro?

    - by paxdiablo
    I have Visual C# 2008 Professional and have developed the first half of a C# application (console mode) with the second half in progress now (GUI). I'm looking for an easy path to creating an installer for it. What are the steps that need to be taken to produce a professional installer? There's a similar question here regarding the Express edition but I have Pro, and I would like as much as possible to stick with just the standard VS stuff (if you think you can convince me that a third party installer creator is much better than a VS-only solution, give it a shot, by all means). Keep in mind that I have no interest in upgrading to VS2010 yet, even if it's a hundred times easier to create an installer. That can come later, when the revenue starts rolling in :-) Also be aware that the GUI component of this application is a totally separate executable from the console part. The console part is a simple "open file 1, do some work on it, write file 2" type and the GUI is a fairly standard "open file, do some stuff" beast so there's no tricky or wildly undocumented behaviour happening. Basically, I'm looking for (at least) the following: professional looking installer. ability to specify where the application files go. changes to the registry to allow double-clicks on my file extension to open the GUI app with the file as an argument. needs to install everything required (my stuff, .Net if required, and so on).
