  My ideal workflow would consist of the following steps edit the code compile git commit -a -m "commit message" start running the new binaries, tests, etc. (may take 10+ minutes) start new changes, while the binaries are still running when step # 4 is finished, edit the commit message from step # 3, without committing the changes introduced in step # 5, by adding, say, "test FOO failed" I cannot use git commit -a --amend -m "new commit message", because this commits the new changes as well. I'm not sure that I want to bother with staging or branching. I wish I could just edit the commit message without committing any new changes. Is it possible?

  Currently we have a body of code that allows service plugins which offer forms of communication to the core e.g tcp/ip, udp/ip, usb, etc... These service plugins feedback notifier class instances to the core for further processing. In the current implementation a service project (which is a separate dynamically linked library brought in at runtime by the core via dlopen and friends) will compile against the notifier.cpp file that resides in the core source code (a separate project). This gives access to the notifiers method implementations. This works perfectly no complaints. Two alternative options: 1. put the notifier method implementations in the header file. 2. declare the notifier methods virtual and delay binding until runtime. Avoiding the issues of computational overhead what are the impacts of option 2? Are there any other options available to us? Thanks

  I wanted to try out the TCC and got the Win32 Binary zip file from the website. upon decompressing it I tried to compile the "hello_win.c" source from the example directory. As soon as the compiler tried to write to the disk McAfee Popped up a dialog box and identified a Trojan named "Generic.dx." Has anyone else experience this? Dropping a virus into a compiler would be a sneaky, but brilliant, delivery mechanizism. I just want to know if this is a legit threat.

  Hello. I want to use an embed an sqlite database into an existing tcl application (Migrate from flat-file). Currently; our tcl interpreter is run from a network location; /bin/tclsh8.3 I do have an nfs $PATH for executables set for all users already; I am assuming I can place a standalone sqlite3 executible there; though I have been not found an easy way to compile a local lib independent sqlite yet... (all linux clients, running anything from red hat 9 to ubuntu 10.04) Anyone able to poke me in the right direction in building an sqlite3 standalone binary I can use in my nfs tcl install?   In eclipse, whenever I create a new C++ class, or C header file, I get the following type of structure. Say I create header file example.h, I get this: /*Comments*/ #ifndef EXAMPLE_H_ #define EXAMPLE_H_ /* Place to put all of my definitions etc. */ #endif I think ifndef is saying that if EXAMPLE_H_ isn't defined, define it, which may be useful depending on what tool you are using to compile and link your project. However, I have two questions: Is this fairly common? I don't see it too often. And is it a good idea to use that rubric, or should you just jump right into defining your code. What is EXAMPLE_H_ exactly? Why not example.h, or just example? Is there anything special about that, or could is just be an artifact of how eclipse prefers to autobuild projects?   Hi, I much prefer using this 'embedded' style inserts in a pl/sql block (opposed to the execute immediate style dynamic sql - where you have to delimit quotes etc). -- a contrived example PROCEDURE CreateReport( customer IN VARCHAR2, reportdate IN DATE ) BEGIN -- drop table, create table with explicit column list CreateReportTableForCustomer; INSERT INTO TEMP_TABLE VALUES ( customer, reportdate ); END; / The problem here is that oracle checks if 'temp_table' exists and that it has the correct number of colunms and throws a compile error if it doesn't exist. So I was wondering if theres any way round that?! Essentially I want to use a placeholder for the table name to trick oracle into not checking if the table exists.

• Preprocessor not skipping asm directives

  I'm programming to a microprocessor (Coldfire) and I don't have access every day to the microprocessor trainer so I want to be able to execute some of my code on the computer. So I'm trying to skip a part of my code when executing on the computer by defining _TEST_. It doesn't work. It tries to compile the asm code and dies whining about not knowing the registers names (they're defined alright compiling against the Coldfire, not my Intel Core Duo). Any ideas why it's not working? or maybe an alternative way to run the code on the pc without commenting it out?. • Linking Error: undefined reference to `MPI_Init' on Windows 7

  I am using OpenMPI library to write a program to run on Windows 7. I compile and build with C Free 4.0, Mingw. Compiling is Ok but when the compiler links object, errors "undefined reference to ..." occurs. I have set the environment already: I added OpenMPI lib, include and bin folder into C Free Build Directories. I added them into Windows environment variables too. But the error still occurs. Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Thanks a lot.

• C++ performance, optimizing compiler, empty function in .cpp

  I've a very basic class, name it Basic, used in nearly all other files in a bigger project. In some cases, there needs to be debug output, but in release mode, this should not be enabled and be a NOOP. Currently there is a define in the header, which switches a makro on or off, depending on the setting. So this is definetely a NOOP, when switched off. I'm wondering, if I have the following code, if a compiler (MSVS / gcc) is able to optimize out the function call, so that it is again a NOOP. • C++ packing a typedef enum

  typedef enum BeNeLux { BELGIUM, NETHERLANDS, LUXEMBURG } _PACKAGE_ BeNeLux; When I try to compile this with C++ Compiler, I am getting errors, but it seems to work fine with a C compiler. So here's the question. Is it possible to pack an enum in C++, or can someone see why I would get the error? The error is: "semicolon missing after declaration of BeNeLux". I know, after checking and rechecking, that there definitely is a semicolon there, and in any places required in the rest of the code.

  I wrote a little Haskell program to find the area of a triangle, primarily to practice custom types, but it keeps throwing the following error on compile: areafinder.hs:7:4: Couldn't match expected type 'Triangle' against inferred type 'm b' In a stmt of a 'do' expression: putStr "Base: " In the expression: do { putStr "Base: "; baseStr I'm not sure where 'm b' comes from, so I'm at a loss here. • compiling QGIS Plugin using make

  On a fresh mac os x 10.8 install, i've Quantum GIS Installed from Kingchaos binaries and running fine. I'm trying to develop a plugin for QGIS, and using Plugin Builder. The skel that Plugin Builder, produces, should work off-the-shelf, but it does not compile using the makefile. Somewhere python can't find (pyuic.py), and it searches for (/Users/kyngchaos/...), path. • Makefile automatic link dependency ?

  It's easy to let program figure out the dependency at compile time, (with gcc -MM). Nevertheless, link dependency (deciding which libraries should be linked to) seems to be difficult to figure out. This issue become emergent when multiple targets with individual libraries to link to are needed. For instance, three dynamic library targets t1.so, t2.so and t3.so needs to be built. t1.so needs math library (-lm), while t2 and t3 don't. It would be tedious to write separate rules. A single rule requiring the three targets linked with math library saves the trouble. However, it causes inflation of target size since math library is unused for t2.so and t3.so. Any ideas?

For this I am using a file named chicago.sty, Document compiles however I do not see any reference or citation.Instead I somehow get error when reading the paper.blg file: This is BibTeX, Version 0.99cThe top-level auxiliary file: paper.aux I couldn't open style file chicago.bst ---line 62 of file paper.aux : \bibstyle{chicago} What is a blg file, and how can I generate it from the .sty file so that my citations and references display properly. • Gem file with git remote failing on heroku push

  My source files tree is like this: /src /pkg /foo foo.go foo_test.go Inside foo.go: package foo func bar(n int) { ... } inside foo_test.go: package foo func testBar(t *testing.T) { bar(10) ... } My questions are: Does package name relates to directory name, source file name? If there is only one source file for a package, need I put it in a directory? Should I put foo.go and foo_test.go in the same package? In the foo_test.go, as it's in the same package as foo.go, I didn't import foo. But when I compile foo_test.go with 6g, it says bar() is undefined. What should I do?

  I am new to Java and am making a license generator. This is my current setup. com.example.licensegenerator.client (used by the client application) :LicenseLoader (no Main method) :LicenseDownloader (no Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.server.keys (used by the server) :ProductKeyGenerator(Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.server.license (used on the server also) :LicenseGenerator(Main method) com.example.licensegenerator.lib (Shared classes between client and server) :Contants (no main) Now I have a few questions. Is it OK to have multiple Main() methods in a single project? Will I be able to compile them to different .jar files? (In this case I need two different jars for the server) Is there a better way to setup the packages? And a totally unrelated question, with exceptions, is it better to handle them right then and there or throw them and let the main method catch them all (the program cannot recover if an error occurs)

  I have a simple little code fragment that is frustrating me: HashSet<long> groupUIDs = new HashSet<long>(); groupUIDs.Add(uid)? unique++ : dupes++; At compile time, it generates the error: Only assignment, call, increment, decrement, and new object expressions can be used as a statement HashSet.Add is documented to return a bool, so the ternary (?) operator should work, and this looks like a completely legitimate way to track the number of unique and duplicate items I add to a hash-set. When I reformat it as a if-then-else, it works fine. Can anyone explain the error, and if there is a way to do this as a simple ternary operator?
