• How do I send an email from my webpage?

  I am not a web developer but I do have a lot of programming experience in C# and Windows forms programming. On our company webpage my boss wants me to put in a textbox where visitors can submit a comment and press a submit button and that comment will be sent to an email address. Right now, our website uses just plain old html, no php or javascript or anything like that. I am wondering what is the simplest way to accomplish what I need? Can someone point me in the right direction? The website is hosted on an Apache server so I won't be able to use aspx.

  I have created an silverlight application (i have not selected my application to be hosted from another web application). Now I created a simple hello world page. I created virtual directory of my silverlight project in IIS for application hosting. 4. When I browse MainPage.xaml in loaclhost, it is not running. I think I shoul run the .xap file to host my application but I dont know haw??? OR Is it necessary to host a silverlight application from a .aspx page??

• javascript function call automatically on page onload instead on onclick

  I am facing a very strange problem. I have javascript function in my aspx page that i call on the onclick event.but on one particular machine it always automatically called on body onload in infinite loop. Though I already remove all the caching and delte the history and temp files. This seems very strange to me .It works fine on all the machine excpt one. The machine have windows 7 and IE verison 8.0.7600.16385 Can some one please help me. Thanks in advance.

  I have a user control (ascx) that I have added two public properties to: RequestTypeId and GroupId. Both have the attribute set. In my aspx page, I have a ListView, and in the ItemTemplate, I place my control reference, like so: <ctrl:ServiceTypeGroup runat="server" RequestTypeId="<%#RequestType.RequestTypeId%>" GroupId='<%#Eval("Id").ToString()%>' /> Setting the RequestTypeId works fine. Setting the GroupId fails with the following error: "Databinding methods such as Eval(), XPath(), and Bind() can only be used in the context of a databound control." What do I need to do to my user control code to allow binding a Eval() expression to one of its properties? Or is it not possible?

• IE8 positions DIV overlay wrong way and keeps playing video when it's hidden.

  Hi! Please take a look at: http://www.binarymark.com/Products/PasswordGenerator/default.aspx (the Overview tab, on the diagram). The issue is wjen you click on any of the diagram elements say "Character Groups" all browsers, except IE8 behave well - that is they display the overlay, start playing a video, and when the overlay is closed, the video stops playing an the div is hidden. IE8, on the other hand has two flaws: it positions the overlay way towards the bottom and too much to the right, and even more annoyingly - it keeps playing video in the background even when the overlay div is closed! I use flowplayer.org/tools/overlay/ for overlay. Can you help please? Thanks.

  I am developing SL3 + RIA services with custom authentication. I followed the example in http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/RiaServices/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2661 to implement custom authentication. Based on the implementation, you first do login request from client to service. This request is async process. Since login is async, the control will go back to GUI which then starts to do data bind in SL controls using RIA services, the services happens to requires the authentication to be successful (by adding [RequireAuthentication] attribute). The trouble is, since you requested login might not have completed before the data binding starts t this stage the authentication is false because of that data binding will fail. I would like to know if you require your web services to have 'RequireAuthentication' how would you wait for authentication to complete at the server side or client side. Appriciate the help.   I want to reference a table cell via it's string ID in my code like this FindControl("tdAnswer_a") because I am manipulating string ID names. The ASPX code looks like this : <table>...<td ID="tdAnswer_a" runat="server" visible="true"> But FindControl is not able to find the table cell. When I reference it by ID like this : tdAnswer_a.Visible = true; in my codebehind, it has no problems. (This is not part of a repeater or gridview). How can I FindControl my table cells via string ID names?

• 400 bad request when calling a WCF service via jQuery/Ajax in a IIS7 server

• Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Express 2008

  Hi all, We are having some issues applying the patch for VS 2005 standard: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e1109aef-1aa2-408d-aa0f-9df094f993bf&displaylang=en This works fine in profesional edition, but not a machine running standard. We have checked it has all the pre-resequites but no luck at all. The error is saying the patch cannot be applied because another patch is missing, but again, we have checked and checked and checked. Now, the KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954961 Says Pro and Team editions, no mention of Standard. Judging by how simple it has been to apply this patch to VS 05 pro, and this KB article, we are starting to come to the conlcusion that it is the version. Anyone had this issue? Try as we might we cant find any work around

• SQL Compact Edition 3.5 SP 1 - LockTimeOutException - how to debug?

  Intermittently in our app, we encounter LockTimeoutExceptions being throw from SQL CE. We've recently upgraded to 3.5 SP 1, and a number of them seem to have gone away, but we still do see them occasionally. I'm certain it's a bug in our code (which is multi-threaded) but I haven't been able to pin it down precisely. Does anyone have any good techniques for debugging this problem? The exceptions log like this (there's never a stack trace for these exceptions): SQL Server Compact timed out waiting for a lock. The default lock time is 2000ms for devices and 5000ms for desktops. The default lock timeout can be increased in the connection string using the ssce: default lock timeout property. [ Session id = 6,Thread id = 7856,Process id = 10116,Table name = Product,Conflict type = s lock (x blocks),Resource = DDL ] Our database is read-heavy, but does seldom writes, and I think I've got everything protected where it needs to be. EDIT: SQL CE already automatically uses NOLOCK http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172398(sql.90).aspx

• Handling Messages in Console Apps/DLLs in C++ Win32

  I would like to have the ability to process Win32 messages in a console app and/or inside a standalone DLL. I have been able to do it in .NET with the following article and it works great in C# inside a console app and standalone DLL http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc163417.aspx Is there a way to do the equivalent with C/C++ Win32 APIs? I have tried doing RegisterClassEx(...) and CreateWindow(...) even passing in HWND_MESSAGE to hWndParent but the trouble is that after the "invisible" window is created messages are not being processed probably due to the lack of a message pump. Where would the message pump go if you had a DLL entry point? I have tried creating another thread in a DLL and put while(GetMesage(..)) there but that did not work either. Any ideas?

However, I am unable to find out how to set up routing in such a way that server ignores routing for images, css and scripts so it will be read as http://address/css/text.css instead of http://address/article/1212/some-text/css/text.css The only way I can make this work if I put tag into but I am sure it can be done other way. • gcalFeed is not a function?

  I set up a calendar for the department at the university where I work (http://www.uwsp.edu/conted/calendar/default.aspx), this works just great. I then turned around and uploaded all the jquery files and fullcalendar.css to my development server (http://fossilfoundry.com/test/test.htm). When the page loads I get a JavaScript Error stating that $.fullCalendar.gcalFeed is not a function. All the files are local to the .htm page. I've checked everything I can think of. Any ideas why this won't run?

• Active Index is not being persisted in jQuery accordion change event

  I have an asp.net aspx page and on that page I have a hidden input field with and id of paneIndex. However, when I load the page, the alert shows index 1 which is correct on the first load, but if I open up pane 3 for example, the alert shows 1 still. Am I doing something wrong?   Hi, i've to display a messagge in my homepage (default.aspx) different for each "installation" of my web app. i would like to avoid to make a call to database to show this message.. so i've thougth to use web.config to store something like this <add key="WelcomeString" value="lorem ipsus <b>doloret sit amen</b>" /> But i've noticed i can't use html markup into web.config ... • Scraping ASP.NET site with Ruby

  I would like to scrape the search results of this ASP.NET site using Ruby and preferably just using Hpricot (I cannot open an instance of Firefox): http://www.ngosinfo.gov.pk/SearchResults.aspx?name=&foa=0 However, I am having trouble figuring out how to go through each page of results. Basically, I need simulate clicking on links like these: <a href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$Pager1$2','')" class="blue_11" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_Pager1">2</a> <a href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$Pager1$3','')" class="blue_11" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_Pager1">3</a> etc. I tried using Net::HTTP to handle the post, but while that received the correct HTML, there were no search results (I'm probably not doing that correctly). In addition, the URL of the page does not contain any parameters indicating page, so it is not possible to force the results that way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  hi, I am using jquery ajax method on my aspx page,which will invoke the webmethod in the code behind.Currently the webmethod takes a couple of parameters like firstname,lastname,address etc which I am passing from jquery ajax method using data:JSON.stringify({fname:firstname,lname:lastname,city:city}) now my requirement has been changed such that,the number and type of parameters that are going to be passed is not fixed for ex.parameter combination can be something like fname,city or fname,city or city,lname or fname,lname,city or something else.So the webmethod should be such that it should accept any number parameters.I thought of using arrays to do so, as described here. But I do not understand how can I identify which and how many parameters have been passed to the webmethod to insert/update the data to the DB.Please could someone help me with this? thanks

I read the article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/3ak841sy%28VS.80%29.aspx 1) Why I don't just use App data folder? 2) In the link above : "With isolated storage, data is always isolated by user and by assembly. Credentials such as the origin or the strong name of the assembly determine assembly identity. Data can also be isolated by application domain, using similar credentials." I can't think about a scenario that makes this future important. In general I don't understand the philosophy and the need of "isolated storage" which inspire MS to create such a thing. Thanks

• Persisting sensitve data in asp.net, odd implementation

  For reasons not in scope of this question I have implemented a .net project in an iframe which runs from a classic asp page. The classic asp site persisted a few sensitive values by hitting the db on each page. I have passed there variables as xml to the aspx page, now I need to make these values available on any page of this .net site. I've looked into the cache object but we are on a web farm so I am not sure it would work. Is there a way I can can instantiate an object in a base page class and have other pages inherit from the base page to access these values? What is the best way to persist these values? A few more points to consider the site runs in https mode and I cannot use session variables, and I would like to avoid cookies if possible..

  I using the FileWatcher Class to locate changes on Files in a specific Folder. I managed to detect Changes on Files but not detailed Information.
