• Good conventions for embedding schema of a flat file

  We receive lots of data as flat files: delimitted or just fixed length records. It's sometimes hard to find out what the files actually contain. Are there any well established practices for embedding the schema of the file to the beginning or the end of a file to make the file self-explanatory? Just to get an idea, imagine something like this: <data name=test records=2 type=fixed> <field name=foo start=0 length=2 type=numeric> <field name=bar start=2 length=4 type=text> </data> 11test 12ing We would parse the xml in the beginning and use it for reading the records.

• click-event doesn't fire if blur changes layout

  I have a form with blur-events bound to the required fields. Then there is a "Cancel" Button which simply calls an URL (button is an image with click-event). When leaving one of the required fields a warning is written to the page saying that field xy is required. - this causes a layout shift, meaning all the fields and the buttons are moved down a little bit because of the text inserted above. The tricky thing is this: when the focus is in an empty but required field and you click the cancel button, the required-warning is written to the screen but the click-event on the cancel button doesn't fire. I think this is due to the layout shift. The mouse cursor doesn't hover over the button anymore, because the button scrolled down. Has anyone a good idea how i could solve this?

• PHP - Short hand if statement with a date format with weird output.

  I am using a short hand notation of an if statement to format a field. If the field is an empty string I leave it as an empty string, if not then I am trying to format it to a proper datetime format so it can be inserted into a mysql db. here is my php code $date = ($date == '') ? date("Y-m-d", strtotime($date)) : $date; for some reason when the $date string is not empty it is returning it int he format 'm/d/Y' example: 04/01/2010 When I pull the code out of the shorthand if $date = date("Y-m-d", strtotime($date)); print($date); it is formatted correctly like this 'Y-m-d' or 2010-04-01. Does anyone know why this happens? Thanks

This is the formula `=SUMIFS('revenue'!G:G,'revenue'!AH:AH,Sheet2!A2,'revenue'!AI:AI,Sheet2!B2)` Where G is a dollar amount, and AH and AI are matching the type or fund column. How do i get this to work in Excel 2003?

  Hi , My questing is related to population of modified date time field in AX during any posting. Suppose I have a server at singapore and i am working in India,and the current time in singapore is 12 p.m and that in India is 9 a.m. Then while I am posting any purchase order packing slip, it is populating the modified date time field with the time of singapore i.e 12 p.m. But I require the Indian time i.e 9 a.m. to be populated there. NrDetail 1 0 xxx yyyy 1 2 0 aaaa bbbb 2 3 1 hhhhh ssss 0 4 2 eee sssss 0 5 2 jjj hhhh 0 As you can see, NrDetail contain the total of "child record". Unfortunately, i've to create this field... and i would like to write it in my table. So my SQL question is: how to do this type of SQL to write the field NrDetail ? Something like: UPDATE table SET NrDetail= (SELECT COUNT(*) as Total FROM table WHERE MasterID= RecordID) But i think there's some mistake... Thank you in advance !

• SQL Encryption - Asymmetric Key - 2nd Server

  Hello, I created an asymmetric key on one of my SQL servers (2008). I encrypted a password field and I am able to retrieve that password just fine on my development server. The issue comes into play where I need to move this data to a production server. Here is the code for the key that was created: CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD='#########' CREATE ASYMMETRIC KEY UserEncryptionKey WITH ALGORITHM = RSA_2048 Now, when I run this on the production server, it creates the key just fine. However, when I run my sproc to get the password, it returns NULL. SQL: SELECT EncryptByAsymKey(AsymKey_ID('UserEncryptionKey'), Password ) FROM Users WHERE UserName = '######' Any thoughts on what I need to do to get the encrypted field to work on multiple SQL Servers? Please let me know if I need to clarify something. Thanks

• Explanation of contribute_to_class

  I'm attempted to extend code, and have come across an issue, I don't understand a line of code. I know the outcome of it - but I don't understand how it happens and am naturally enough scared to change it. The line of code I've come across is this: MyGenericRelation().contribute_to_class(model, 'field_name') The result of this code is a field with 'field_name' is added to the 'model' and from what I gather the objects inside the field are a list of type X (part of MyGenericRelation). I'm wondering if anyone can explain how this works. As in, why do I get a list of X objects attached to 'field_name' and if does it have to be generic relations prior to contribute_to_class or would using an actual model type, say 'Y' just give me a list of Y's. To be honest, I am more interested in the affect and functionality of the contribute_to_class method.

  Hi all, I am learning how to use JQuery validation plugin, and came across some questions about the JQuery magic that works on the sumbit action. I got a simple HTML form which has got an input text field like this: <form class="cmxform" id="commentForm" method="get" action=""> <input id="cname" name="name" size="25" class="required" minlength="2" /> <input class="submit" type="submit" value="Submit"/> </form> The magic happened when I tried not to input any data into the field and pressed the submit button. I saw an error message in red pop up, and no matter how hard and how many times I pressed the submit button, nothing was submitted. It seemed that there was some scripts that disabled the submit action, but I just couldn't find which lines of codes in the JQuery Validatyion Plugin that did it.

• How should I build a privacy drop-down (select) menu?

  I'm trying to build something similar to Facebook's privacy selection menu, except without the 'custom' option. It will only list a few options such as 'show to all', 'show to friends only', or 'completely hidden'. Right now I'm thinking of using simple JavaScript to change a hidden input field to the new value they click on, so if they clicked on the division for 'show to friends only' it would change the corresponding field, say 'email_privacy', to 1. Is there a better way to do this or am I pretty much on track? P.S. I am not planning on using a select element, I was planning on building a custom drop-down menu using CSS since select elements are so highly non-customizable. I'm doing it this way to save space, rather than having this massive selection menu at the right which takes up a bunch of space. Note: I'm not really interested in using jQuery, that's just extra libraries and crap that I don't want to load. I can do it in JavaScript just as easily so I might as well use that.

  I've seen various Grails plugins which allow easier handling of file uploads, however these tend only to support a single file per form-submit. I'd like a multi-attach form where as soon as you pick one file, an extra field and button is added using JS (various sites do it like this). Do you know of any good plugins which provide elegant uploading of multiple files without excessive coding? A progress bar either per-file of for the whole process would also be very nice. I don't know to what extent I can allow GORM to handle a java.io.File field (or in this case a Collection<File>).

  Hi, I am new to asp.net and I have a problem. When the users insert in a editor for a decimal field something other than numbers, they get an error "Field name" is not a number. But I don't want them to receive this message I want them to receive another message. I have no problem with this with required and range validators. Is there any way for me to do this? I am not refering necessarily to changing the culture just displaying another message. Thanks.

  Hola, I have an app i'm building in c#, and i'd like to have the ability to have a user click a "more information" icon next to a field, which will then show a callout with some blurb about why the field contains what it does. ideally it'd look a lot like the ValidatorCallout, but instead of being shown as a result of validation, it'll be shown as a result of a mouseclick, or hover. • Wordpress comments - perform simple math?

  I have a Wordpress website in which one of the categories I've stripped the comments field down to basic whole numbers only. The logged in user can enter data on the post via the "comments" field, in basic simple whole numbers. Is there any way to take the MOST RECENT comment on all posts from that category (cat 1) and run basic math? My goal is to take the most recent comment's input from each post and add it together and display it via some php/html on another page/post or widget somewhere. Thanks!

In my case it prevents mysql from using what seems to be a perfectly good index. But it's not about fixing that specific query (as it is an irrelevant test). • Customise a control in dynamics crm

  I've written code that can make a phone dial a number from a function call, that's done and dusted. What I would like to achieve is adding a Dial button to each phone number field on the forms in Dynamics CRM. Eventually this could also create a new phone record fill in the basic details and show it to the user to enter notes and an outcome for the phone call, and perhaps some other workflow bits to schedule the next call. Can I put a custom control on a standard form in place of the standard control. I'm assuming it would have to be an IFrame to an asp.net page, that pulls in the record id, and the field name, looks up the number to show in a text box, and passes the number to the DialNumber function. Hey presto... I assume its not going to be that easy... Has anyone tried this before, what's the process, what are the gotchas?

• How can I convert arbitrary strings to CLS-Compliant names?

  Does anyone know of an algorithm (or external library) that I could call to convert an arbitrary string (i.e. outside my control) to be CLS compliant? I am generating a dynamic RDLC (Client Report Definition) for an ASP.Net Report Viewer control and some of the field names need to be based on strings entered by the user. Unfortunately I have little control over the entry of the field names by the client (through a 3rd party CMS). But I am quite flexible around substitutions required to create the compliant string. I have a reactive hack algorithm for now along the lines of: public static string FormatForDynamicRdlc(this string s) { //We need to change this string to be CLS compliant. return s.Replace(Environment.NewLine, string.Empty) .Replace("\t", string.Empty) .Replace(",", string.Empty) .Replace("-", "_") .Replace(" ", "_"); } But I would love something more comprehensive.   Hi I'm building an e-commerce website. I have a Product and Order models. It's possible that a customer order a product and then the admin change its price or other fields before the customer actually get it. A possible solution is to add a 'version' field to the Product model. When the admin update a product field I'll add a timestamp and create a new object instead of updating the old one. An Order will have a reference to a specific product version. Does this make sense? Will overriding the Product Save method be sufficient to make it work? Thanks

  Situation: On my site, I have a comment model, with a deleted field. Users cannot see deleted comments, but I would like to allow admins to see deleted comments, if they choose to. This will be accomplished by having a scope for users with the admin role which allows them to view comments with the deleted field set to false, as well as true. Question: Is Cancan's accessible_by method my best choice for doing so? From what I've read, it sounds like it will facilitate exactly what I'm trying to do, but, I don't want to implement something that is inefficient, if there is a better method.

• Local Data Cache - How do I refresh the local db when I add fields to remote db?

  I'm using a Local Data Cache in an ASP.NET 3.5 environment. I made a change in my main database by adding a new field. I double click on my .SYNC file in my project to startup the Local Data Cache wizard again. The wizard starts and I click OK with the hopes that it'll re-query my database and add the new field to the local database file. Instead, I get an error saying "Synchronizing the databae failed with the message: Unable to enumerate changes at the DbServerSyncProvider..." The only way I know to get things working again is to delete the .SYNC file along with the local database and start it from scratch. There's got to be an easier way... anyone know it?

• Save BLOB to disk as Image C#

  Hello, I am developing a web application that calls web services developed by a third party to send/receive data from a clients database. I am building the application using ASP.NET 3.5 C#. The way that they are providing me images is in BLOB format. I call their method and what I get back is a DataSet with 2 fields "logo_name" and "logo" which is the BLOB field. What I want to do is: Save the image locally on the disk (to minimize calls to their database in the future). I have been playing around with a couple of different ways of doing this but cannot seem to get the image to save correctly. I have been able to create a file in a folder with the correct name but if I try to view the image it does not work. I was hoping someone could give me some sample code to show me how to save a BLOB field to the local disk? Thanks
