  • Understanding CGI and SQL security from the ground up

    This question is for learning purposes. Suppose I am writing a simple SQL admin console using CGI and Python. At http://something.com/admin, this admin console should allow me to modify a SQL database (i.e., create and modify tables, and create and modify records) using an ordinary form. In the least secure case, anybody can access http://something.com/admin and modify the database. You can password protect http://something.com/admin. But once you start using the admin console, information is still transmitted in plain text. So then you use HTTPS to secure the transmitted data. Questions: To describe to a learner, how would you incrementally add security to the least secure environment in order to make it most secure? How would you modify/augment my three (possibly erroneous) steps above? What basic tools in Python make your steps possible? Optional: Now that I understand the process, how do sophisticated libraries and frameworks inherently achieve this level of security?

    What ways are there to combine executing of a stored procedure and using it's result or parameters in a regular SQL query? Or not supported yet but planned in future versions of SQL Server. I'm afraid that I use variables when it's possible do not. I mean next: -- passing result of SELECT to SP SELECT a, b FROM t EXEC my_sp a, b -- passing result of SP to INSERT INSERT INTO t EXEC my_sp a, b etc.

    Hello, I want to set a key in emacs to perform a shell command on the file in the buffer, and revert the buffer without prompting. The shell command is: p4 edit 'currentfilename.ext' (global-set-key [\C-E] (funcall 'revert-buffer 1 1 1)) ;; my attempt above to call revert-buffer with a non-nil ;; argument (ignoring the shell command for now) -- get an init error: ;; Error in init file: error: "Buffer does not seem to be associated with any file" Completely new to elisp. I thought I could do this using lazy loading as follows: class Foo { @OneToOne(fetch = FetchType.LAZY, optional = false) private Bar bar; } Foo f = session.get(Foo.class, fooId); // Hibernate fetches Foo f.getBar(); // Hibernate fetches full Bar object f.getBar().getId(); // No further fetch, returns id I want f.getBar() to not trigger another fetch. I want hibernate to give me a proxy object that allows me to call .getId() without actually fetching the Bar object. What am I doing wrong?

    After peeking at the SO source, I noticed this tag: <link rel="apple-itouch-icon" href="/apple-touch-icon.png" /> Which after a quick Google revealed an Apple "favicon" type thing for display on your homepage ("WebClip Bookmark" to be exact). The only other one that jumps to mind is the: <input type="search" results="5"/> This type="search" causes the field to "inherit" the Apple search icon, and the optional results="x" enables a history of "x" keywords to be maintained. I'm therefore wondering, what other Apple/Safari (iPhone/iPod Touch) specific HTML tags and attributes are out there that I'm not aware of! Curious minds need to know!

    Have a type in the header files I'm working with called VTVOID it is the type of a struct element and a number of parameters. In the header file defining types is the line #define VTVOID void I read in another discussion the void maps to System.Void however when I plug that into the C# code I get the error "System.Void cannot be used in C# -- use typeof(void) to get the void object." So what type do I plug in? Jim

    Python offers an optional loop-else clause which is executed if and only if the loop is not terminated by a break. (In other words, the condition fails for a while-loop or the iterator is exhausted for a for-loop.) Does this loop-else construct originate from another language? (Either theoretical or actually implemented.) Has it been taken up in any newer language?
