  • How to display full documentation of a method as you type in VS?

    The title is pretty descriptive... Is there any extension that let me see FULL documentation of the method I'm typing ? I would like to see the documentation as I can see it in Object Browser with description of parameters and everything not just some "summary". So what I'd like to see when I type String.Format is: Of cause with an option to see all overrides. It may be part of intelisence or I don't know what it does not really matter.

  • Does any language have a while-else flow structure?

    Consider this flow structure which I happen to use often: if ( hasPosts() ) { while ( hasPosts() ) { displayNextPost(); } } else { displayNoPostsContent(); } Are there any programming languages which have an optional else clause for while, which is to be run if the while loop is never entered? Thus, the code above would become: while ( hasPosts() ) { displayNextPost(); } else { displayNoPostsContent(); } I find it interesting that many languages have the do-while construct (run the while code once before checking the condition) yet I have never seen while-else addressed. There is precedent for running an N block of code based on what was run in N-1 block, such as the try-catch construct. I wasn't sure whether to post here or on programmers.SE. If this question is more appropriate there, then please move it. Thanks.

  • Large transactions causing "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired" error?

    My application requires a user to log in and allows them to edit a list of things. However, it seems that if the same user always logs in and out and edits the list, this user will run into a "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired." error. I've read comments about increasing the timeout period but I've also read a comment about it possibly caused by uncommitted transactions. And I do have one going in the application. I'll provide the code I'm working with and there is an IF statement in there that I was a little iffy about but it seemed like a reasonable thing to do. I'll just go over what's going on here, there is a list of objects to update or add into the database. New objects created in the application are given an ID of 0 while existing objects have their own ID's generated from the DB. If the user chooses to delete some objects, their IDs are stored in a separate list of Integers. Once the user is ready to save their changes, the two lists are passed into this method. By use of the IF statement, objects with ID of 0 are added (using the Add stored procedure) and those objects with non-zero IDs are updated (using the Update stored procedure). After all this, a FOR loop goes through all the integers in the "removal" list and uses the Delete stored procedure to remove them. A transaction is used for all this. That all works fine in the report designer, however after deploying the report on the server the pane in the drill-through reports is hidden. Is there a way I can change this behavior. Our users want the pane to be visible in the drill-through report.

  • MySQL update query, how to skip empty values?

    I've got such query: $sql = "UPDATE test_accs SET acc_owner = '$owner_id', acc_policy_version = '$version', acc_policy_last_update = '$approved', acc_policy_next_update = '$renewed' WHERE acc_id = '1'"; Now, all of these values on the web folmular are optional, one can set one of these values, two, or so. Now, after I submit the form, it goes in the query like that: UPDATE test_accs SET acc_owner = '2', acc_policy_version = '1.2', acc_policy_last_update = '2012-12-19', acc_policy_next_update = '2012-12-18' WHERE acc_id = '1' It works only when I submit all values from the form. Can you please show me how could it work even if not all the values has been sent, just for example one of them? When I set one value (f.ex. policy version), it looks like that: UPDATE test_accs SET acc_owner = '', acc_policy_version = '1.2', acc_policy_last_update = '', acc_policy_next_update = '' WHERE acc_id = '1' and it isn't working.   • Typedef in C# across several source files

    I am writing a C wrapper an would like to use a typedef aquivalent to define some types which should be valid in quite a lot of source files. Those "types" are just different aliases to [u]int16/32/64_t, but are useful to distinguish function parameters. One could use using MyId=System.Int32;, but this needs to be redeclared in every file as far as I see... Is there a better way?

  • using dummy row with NOT NULL to solve DEFAUT NULL

    I know having DEFAULT NULLS is not a good practice but I have many optional lookup values which are FK in the system so to solve this issue here is what i am doing: I use NOT NULL for every FK / lookup valve field. I have the first row in every table which is PK id = 1 as a dummy row with just "none" in all the columns. this way I can use NOT NULL in my schema and if needed reference to the none row values which should be null. Is this a good design or any other work arounds?
