• .NET GDI+ image size - file codec limitations

  Is there a limit on the size of image that can be encoded using the image file codecs available from .NET? I'm trying to encode images 4GB in size, but it simply does not work (or does not work properly i.e. writes out an unreadable file) with .bmp, .jpg, .png or the .tif encoders. When I lower the image size to < 2GB it does work with the .jpg but not the .bmp, .tif or .png. My next attempt would be to try libtiff because I know tiff files are meant for large images. What is a good file format for large images? or am I just hitting the file format limitations? • Making a app show inside a GUI in Java

  Hello. I have one problem I've been dealing with for this week. You see, I'm new to Java, so that's probably it... Anyways, I've started a project out of pure curiosity. I had it done in Java, but in plain CMD-style, which is not very pretty. It calls one of my ten programs, chosen by the user using "Case". Eg.: If you type 1, it will go to program 1. After you finish it, it goes back to selection until the user press 0. After that, I've been trying to make a GUI for it. I've been able to create the selector alone and make it respond to the numbers chosen. If you press 1 and click ok, it will tell you you've chosen program 1. I, however, have not been able to make it run the program. I've been trying to make the program show up in a jPanel, part of the main GUI. I failed miserably. The program runs in separate but I can't make them run together like the CMD one. • mod perl in apache 2.2 not parsing perl scripts

  Hi, I've set up a fresh Apache 2.2.15 server on windows server 2008 R2 with mod_perl (mod perl v2.0.4 / perl v5.10.1). Mod_perl and Perl 5.10 has been installed and loaded without problems. However, despite my configuration, the mod_perl module is failing to recognize and execute my .pl file, instead opting to print out the perl source instead. What did I do wrong, and how do I make perl process my pl script instead of sending it to the client?   Let me preface this by saying I've read and followed these instructions at the FAQ many times: http://www.itefix.no/i2/node/37 It does not do what the title claims... It allows every user access to every other user's home directory, as well as access to all subfolders below the copssh installation path. I'm only using this for SFTP access and I need my users to be sandboxed into only their home directory. So I tried denying access for all users to the user home directory: cacls "C:\Program Files\CopSSH\home" /c /e /t /d sftp_users **Deny access for users to the user home directory Then I tried adding permissions on a user-by-user basis for each users home\username folder. However,these permission were not allowed by windows because of the above deny rule i created at the home directory was being inherited and over-riding my allow rule. The next step for me would be to remove the deny rule at the home directory and for each user folder, add a deny rule for every user it doesn't belong to, and add an allow rule for the one user it does belong to. I am running powershell version 2 on window 7. In ODBC configuration I create a system DSN with name LoveBoat, pointing at a valid file. I don't have any "real" apps to test whether the ODBC connection works, but a simple program I list below works.   I have a VBScript program that retrieves a web page from a server not under my control. The URL looks something like https://someserver.xxx/index.html. Recently, the web server serving this page went through an upgrade. Now my program can no longer fetch the page. Some clues: Clue 1.   I am wondering why Windows 7 always automatically changes my input or keyboard language. I've a notebook with an integrated QWERTY keyboard English (United States). Traveling, I use that one but, additionally, I've my own as well as a much better keyboard at home which is a QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany). Thus, being at home, I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard. Unfortunately, Windows 7 does not play along at this one. Every time, I start up my notebook, it is usually set to English (United States) but that's not the problem. In case, I'd use my notebook QWERTY keyboard English (United States), that's fine. However, if I start up my notebook and I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany), I usually press ALT + Left Shift in order to switch from English (United States) to German (Germany) and Windows 7 switches the input language but only for the program that is currently open. If my input language is set to German (Germany) and I, e.g., open NotePad, Windows 7 automatically switches my input language to English (United States). This is very annoying since I've to change the input or keyboard language to German (Germany) every time I open up a new program. Why doesn't Windows 7 stay with one input language if I changed it manually by pressing ALT + Left Shift? Why doesn't the manual change of the input or keyboard language apply for the whole Windows 7? Why does it only affect the currently opened program? Since I've two keyboards with two different layouts, I seriously need to have both of the keyboards languages installed. I tried both of the below settings in order to find a solution for my problem. Currently, I am using the first option, two input languages. • Have powershell zip the contents of a bunch of folders, individual zip for each folder

  Recently, I asked how to do this with a .bat file and an answer was provided. for /D %%d in (*.*) do "C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z\7za.exe" a -tzip %%d.zip %%d However, this proved useful only for folders that have no spaces in their name. The reason being that batch will do the following: if the folder name is "jef's vacation pics", the variables will be: %%d = jef's %%e = vacation %%f = pics And then it tries to pass only %%d to the 7-zip program, which will not find such a folder and therefor will not create a zip file. I've tried looking up some tutorials, documentation sites and such, but I haven't been able to come up with an answer. There may be an answer, but I want to take this opportunity to try my hand at powershell. I was thinking that a function with 1 argument, that being the parent-folder of the sub-folders that need to be zipped, would be the best approach.   I have strange situation. I need to call a program in cgi-bin from within a perl script. When I try to do that with exec($program), I get (20014)Internal error: proxy: error reading status line from remote server proxy: Error reading from remote server returned by ... The long story... I am calling mapserv (http://mapserver.org) as a cgi program from OpenLayers (http://openlayers.org). Ordinarily, my web site is served by Perl Dancer, but the mapserver calls are made directly to http://server/cgi-bin/mapserv from JavaScript. The Dancer web site is served by Starman behind an Apache2 proxy front-end. Right now to send a pager message (aka text message), a user logs into our AS400... logs into the program... enters user name and message and hit's F10 to send. With a little looking, it seems that you can run remote commands to the AS400 via FTP. So I'm working on building a script (batch or otherwise) that, given two parameters (user, message), will FTP into the AS400 and run a remote command: c:\>ftp server user: admin password: ***** ftp> quote rcmd SNDPGRMSG TOPGR(JDOE) MSG('This is a Test') ftp> quit So... what I want to do is setup an email account on our Exchange server Monitor the account for incoming mail upon receipt of incoming mail, parse it... say for example subject is defined as "Recipient" and email text is defined as "Pager message" run a batch that uses the above mentioned TOPGR and MSG as parameters... via FTP to the AS400 mark email as "read" The main thing I'm not sure about is monitoring an exchange account and running a script on incoming emails. I'm sure what I want to do is possible... but where would I start? EDIT: Clarification The main reasons for using this four part system are logging (messages sent via this are logged and reported by the AS400 program) and the existing scheduler for redirecting pages (For example, the weekly on-call person = TOPGR(oncall) gets updated by the AS400 program). I'm also trying to remove duplicate work. If I can get this setup working, I can redirect pages from OTHER systems into this one. I then don't have to update 2, soon to be 3, systems with current phone numbers, carriers, on-call schedules, etc. System #2 and #3 can just "email" [email protected].

  Hi, I have a SQL server 2000 and an Access database mdb connected by Linked server on the other hand I have a program in c # that updates data in a SQL table (Users) based data base access. When running my program returns the following error message: OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. Authentication failed. [OLE / DB provider returned message: Can not start the application. Missing information file of the working group or is opened exclusively by another user.] OLE DB error trace [OLE / DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize:: Initialize returned 0x80040E4D: Authentication failed.] . Both the program, the sql server and database access are on a remote server. On the local server the problem was solved by running the following: "sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'ActSC', 'false', NULL, 'admin', NULL". Try on the remote server the next, without result: "sp_addlinkedsrvlogin 'ActSC', true, null, 'user', 'pass'". On the remote server and from the "Query Analyzer" sql update statements are working correctly. Can you think of what may be the problem? Thanks!

• What is the advantage of not running as root? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What's wrong with always being root? All modern brands of Linux highly discourage (or disable) one from running as root instead of a normal user. I do not understand why. As a "normal" user, one could Download a rouge program from the internet. Run it (After all, one isn't root, what can it do). It installs itself in .bashrc or .xinitrc It writes a rouge "sudo" and "su" and adds . to the path Not noticing that . is in path, one runs sudo. The rouge program now has root password and can do anything it wants in the system. Even if 3-6 doesn't happen, the program could still Be part of a botnet. Read all files in the home directory and send them back (mine for SS#, Credit Card numbers, bank account numbers, etc). Send spam. Run a backdoor server to allow an attacker a chance to connect to the machine to determine vulnerabilities. It seems that the whole "permissions" thing (root/non-root) is just to prevent amateur crackers from getting into the system, so the question is: Is there a point in avoiding running as root, and is there a way to protect oneself if one wants to run unsafe code?

  After an Active Directory fail RDP connection started to ask for credentials twice (once on local RDP program, second time on remote's logon screen) I already looked at Windows 2008 R2 RDS - Double Login Solution provided there doesn't work for me. The server is alone, without AD/DNS services, RDP service isn't installed I tried every security settings on RDP-Tcp (RDP, Negotiate, SLL) Logon option is set to "Use credentials from the client" Both windows client and server use RDP 7.1 fPromptForPassword regitries are set to 0 Local Computer Policy\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Security\Always prompt for password upon connection is set to "Disabled" Why i am sure the problem comes from the server and not the client ? This problem affected a 3rd RDP program on Android too (it was directly showing "preparing desktop previously, on both MS RDP and the 3rd program) No bakcup are available (Else the Active Directory wouldn't be a fail, but just a lose of time) I am wondering if a rule linked to RDP got changed after the AD install+unistall, but i'm unable to find where. While this is not a critic problem, this is very annoying. I don't know if more information are needed, if it's the case and if you are patient enough, please tell me what is missing and i'll edit this post to add the missing informations.

  I have to run a script remotely on several Fedora machines through ssh. Since the script requires root priviliges, I do: $ ssh me@remost_host "sudo touch test_sudo" #just a simple example sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified The remote machines are configured in such a way that the password for sudo is never asked for. For the above error, the most common fix is to allocate a pseudo-terminal with the -t option in ssh: $ ssh -t me@remost_host "sudo touch test_sudo" sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified Let's try to force this allocation with -t -t: $ ssh -t -t me@remost_host "sudo touch test_sudo" sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified Nope, it doesn't work. In /etc/sudoers of course I have this line: #Defaults requiretty ... but I can't manually change it on tens of remote machines. Am I missing something here? Is there an easy fix? • high virtual memory usage in openvz?

  We're having a lot of memory problems on a new OpenVZ box. It is supposed to have 1 gig of memory, I'm not sure how much of that is burstable or guaranteed memory. Programs in general seem to take up more virtual memory than they do on my box at home, and on our other OpenVZ box. I wrote this simple C program: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(){ char *thingy = malloc(500); getchar(): return 0; } So it simply allocates 500 bytes and then returns. I ran the program on 3 computers. On my home machine, and our other OpenVZ box it shows about 1k bytes of virtual memory being used. On the new problematic machine its about 3k. I know this is just virtual memory and not resident memory, but why is this machine allocating so much virtual memory? Are there some settings I need to adjust to the OpenVZ memory settings? I tried changing the stack size with ulimit -s 256 and restarting some demons, but I still saw the same results. I'm doing all of my monitoring with htop, is this even a good program to use with a OpenVZ vps? I've read I should be parsing the output of /proc/user_beancounters intead or something.

• How to keep Ubuntu 11.10 and Kate editor w/terminal from changing command line when changing tabs?

  I am programming C using Kate editor in Ubuntu 11.10. It works great, but when I change tabs in Kate, the terminal line changes to the file path of the tab I click on. Normally this is not a big deal (other than annoyingly adding extra text to my terminal) however if I am currently RUNNNING a C program, it obviously will type at the command line, which is not so cool. Example terminal window for my C program (its at a menu): 1) select opt 1 2) select opt 2 Enter choice: (here it waits for prompt from user) Now when I click a tab in Kate, it wants to put in the cd / path of the file in that tab, such as: cd /home/user/os/files And of course since my terminal was waiting for prompt from user it gets that command.. not good. Perhaps there is no fix, but maybe someone knows? Obviously I could choose NOT to switch tabs or end program before switching tabs... Note: I probably made the mistake of putting this under StackOverflow which is more of a programming area - so though repost here might be best (I am not sure how to link the questions but will paste hyperlink to that post - I dont want to violate any stackoverflow/superuser violations) Suggestions on merging them are welcome or if I should delete one? • How to install service packs onto Thin Apps and other questions

  I have a VM that I use to do all my ThinApps, Once I have done my application and its built I copy just the bin folder to a server which has a share, I then create a shortcut to the program exe on users desktops. This all seems to work ok. Firstly is this correct? If so, how then do I apply a service pack to that application after the ThinApp VM has been reverted to a base image, I have corel draw which i have a service pack for but it wont intall it as its saying it cant find the package installed on the computer. I have Thinreg batch file so have included corel into that and the program appears in the program list. I have the sandbox redirected to the server share mentioned earlier into seperate user folders when the user logs in. Obvisouly once i have done a App I revert to a previous snapshop so my thinapp vm is back to base image, so the corel install is lost. Sorry if im missing something very simple. Is its a case if you have an exe/msp you have to reinstall the whole app again and start over, Thanks for any help.

• How can I disable the CTRL-ALT-DEL key combination completely on XP/Vista/7?

  I have been googling extensively to figure this out, and nobody seems to be able to give a direct answer. Let me start by saying that I'm NOT talking about requiring CTRL-ALT-DEL to enter logon information. I'm working on a golf simulator program which is used at golf centers. I need the ability to completely disable the CTRL-ALT-DEL key sequence so that the golf center customers can't get out of the program and access the computer at all. I realize there are other key combinations that need to be handled as well, we already have this entire feature working in XP, but we're going to be switching to Windows 7 soon, and CTRL-ALT-DEL is the only one that doesn't seem to work in Win7. I'd really like an all-around solution if at all possible. This same program may also be installed on a client's personal computer for an in-home golf simulator, but the computers that really need this feature (golf center computers) are provided to the golf center by us, so would the best option be to write a new shell? I don't know anything about that at all, other than others that suggest writing a new shell for kiosk mode. I'd really like a simpler option, like modifying the registry in some way. I have heard that you can remove some buttons from the menu screen that pops up, but unless I can remove pretty much all of them (including the shutdown/restart button in the bottom-right corner), this won't be enough of a solution for me. • Will Parallel-port dongle work on USB-to-Parallel Adapter?

  We have a niche program running on a Win2K laptop that uses a security dongle connected to a parallel port for authentication. The laptop is getting creaky and I spent a frustrating night last night shopping various websites for a new laptop that had a parallel port. Seems I'm about three years late [G]. The question I have, is, if I buy a new(ish) laptop and use a USB-to-Parallel Port adapter, will the security dongle work? I know I'm not being specific about the app, but it's one most people wouldn't have heard of anyways. I've been guessing the answer to my question is no, since the app won't know to send a request out to the non-existent port. But, if the process actually is that the dongle sends a message INTO the computer every now and then, then it might work. And, I'm not sure whether the dongle is only needed at program startup time or randomly. The dongle is a 'permanent' addition to the old laptop. This is all about the money. We can have a newly-updated version of the program (which won't add any features we need) for the princely sum of $2700. Or we can spend $500 on a refurbed laptop still running WinXP, add a 30 buck adapter and keep the same solid, stolid performance we've come to appreciate. But it all comes down to the dongle behaviour. Oh, and a dock won't work. The whole laptop issue is about moving about the various nooks and crannies of the building with laptop in hand. • Windows XP, Preference menu's hidden for many programs

  I don't know when this started happening, but it has been several months since I first noticed it. Basically, when I go to a preferences menu of some programs, the preferences window is completely hidden, but the program see's it as being open. This prevents me from interacting with the preferences and the actual program. So far I've noticed it on Adobe Illustrator and Netbeans. Illustrator when I select edit - Preferences - An Option. On Netbeans it happens when I right click on a site and select properties. Note that the main workspace is grayed out. I have to hit Escape to close the hidden preferences window. I've tried unstinstalling, completely wiping the registry of any trace of the program and reinstalling. Thought it may have been a multi-monitor issue when I switched from 2 monitors down to 1, but menu's were not on other monitor when I plugged one back in. I've reset workspaces, windows display, windows performance settings, changed resolution, safe mode, everything I can think of. I cannot figure out what would cause the same problem on completely unrelated software, and I cannot reset it by reinstalling. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
