  • Data-binding taking to long to update

    - by Justin
In my application I have this code in my view model: hiddenTextContainer.PreHideVerticalOffset = VerticalOffset; hiddenTextContainer.HiddenText = Text.Remove(SelectionStart, SelectionLength); hiddenTextContainer.HasHiddenText = true; hiddenTextContainer.NonHiddenTextStart = SelectionStart; Text = Text.Substring(SelectionStart, SelectionLength); SelectionStart = Text.Length; hiddenTextContainer.ImmediatePostHideVerticalOffset = VerticalOffset; This code is used to hide selected text in a textbox. Text is a string property data bound to the text property of a textbox and VerticalOffset is a double property data bound to the VerticalOffset property of that same textbox. I need to save the VerticalOffset before and after the hiding of selected text takes place, but with my code below both hiddenTextContainer.PreHideVerticalOffset and hiddenTextContainer.ImmediatePostHideVerticalOffset are always set to the same value no matter what. I have figured out that this is because the text of the textbox has not been updated by the time the code reaches: hiddenTextContainer.ImmediatePostHideVerticalOffset = VerticalOffset; Is there any way I can fix this?

  • Best way to attach row from datagrid to EF.

    - by AKoran
    Using MVVM and EF...I have a datagrid binding to a View Model (using ObservableCollection). The view model has a save command which simply calls the SaveChanges command of the Data Context. However, when a user adds a new row to the datagrid, the new entity is detached. Is there any easy way to automatically attach it when it gets created. Currently, I'm having to do this in the Save command of my View Model and it seems a bit clunky: foreach (var dataItem in _DataList) // where _DataList is the ObservableCollection { if (dataItem.EntityState == EntityState.Detached) { _DataContext.AddToTestTables(dataItem); } } _DataContext.SaveChanges();

  • Is there a Visual Studio (or freeware) equivalent for Expression Blend's "Edit Template" feature?

    - by DanM
In Expression Blend, you can view and edit the control template of objects in the "Objects and Timeline" panel. I'm wondering if there's an equivalent feature in Visual Studio or if there's something free (or very inexpensive) I can download that will allow me to do this. Here's a screen cap from Expression Blend that shows what I'm talking about: Doing this for DataGrid results in the following: <Style x:Key="DataGridStyle1" TargetType="{x:Type Custom:DataGrid}"> ... <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type Custom:DataGrid}"> ... </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> <Style.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsGrouping" Value="True"> <Setter Property="ScrollViewer.CanContentScroll" Value="False"/> </Trigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> (The ... is of course replaced with setters and the contents of the control template.) This is a very useful starting point if you want to create a custom style and template for a control. It seems like you can do pretty much anything you can do in Blend in Studio, but this one is eluding me. Any ideas? Edit I'm also curious if this feature will be in Visual Studio 2010. Anyone know?

  • How to retrieve data from a dialog box?

    - by Ralph
Just trying to figure out an easy way to either pass or share some data between the main window and a dialog box. I've got a collection of variables in my main window that I want to pass to a dialog box so that they can be edited. They way I've done it now, is I pass in the list to the constructor of the dialog box: private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { var window = new VariablesWindow(_templateVariables); window.Owner = this; window.ShowDialog(); if(window.DialogResult == true) _templateVariables = new List<Variable>(window.Variables); } And then in there, I guess I need to deep-copy the list, public partial class VariablesWindow : Window { public ObservableCollection<Variable> Variables { get; set; } public VariablesWindow(IEnumerable<Variable> vars) { Variables = new ObservableCollection<Variable>(vars); // ... So that when they're edited, it doesn't get reflected back in the main window until the user actually hits "Save". Is that the correct approach? If so, is there an easy way to deep-copy an ObservableCollection? Because as it stands now, I think my Variables are being modified because it's only doing a shallow-copy.

  • C# generics with MVVM, pulling the T out of <T>

    - by bufferz
My Model is a generic class that contains a (for example) Value property which can be int, float, string, bool, etc. So naturally this class is represented something like Model<T>. For the sake of collections Model<T> implements the interface IModel, although IModel is itself empty of any content. My ViewModel contains and instance of Model<T> and it is passed in through ViewModel's constructor. I still want to know what T is in ViewModel, so when I expose Model to the View I know the datatype of Model's buried Value property. The class for ViewModel ends up looking like the following: class ViewModel<T> { private Model<T> _model; public ViewModel(Model<T> model) { ....blah.... } public T ModelsValue {get; set; } } This works fine, but is limited. So now I need to expose a collection of IModels with varying Ts to my View, so I'm trying to set up an ObservableCollection of new ViewModel<T>s to a changing list of IModels. The problem is, I can't figure out how to get T from Model<T> from IModel to construct ViewModel<T>(Model<T>) at runtime. In the VS2010 debugger I can mouseover any IModel object and see its full Model<int> for example at runtime so I know the data is in there. Any ideas?

  • Region or ItemsSource for large data set in ListBox

    - by Ryan
I'm having trouble figuring out what the best solution is given the following situation. I'm using Prism 4.1, MEF, and .Net 4.0. I have an object Project that could have a large number (~1000) of Line objects. I'm deciding whether it is better to expose an ObservableCollection<LineViewModel> from my ProjectViewModel and manually create the Line viewmodels there OR set the ListBox as it's own region and activate views that way. I'd still want my LineViewModel to have Prism's shared services (IEventAggregator, etc.) injected, but I don't know how to do that when I manually create the LineViewModel. Any suggestions or thoughts?

  • Open new UserControl in the mainWindows

    - by user287964
Hi I have this snippet public partial class Window1 : Window { public Window1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void ToggleButton_Checked(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { switch ((sender as Button).Content.ToString()) { case "UserControl 1": AddItemToContainer(new UserControl1()); break; case "UserControl 2": AddItemToContainer(new UserControl2()); break; case "UserControl 3": AddItemToContainer(new UserControl3()); break; default: break; } } void AddItemToContainer(UIElement _myElement) { Grid.SetColumn(_myElement, 1); HostContainer.Children.Add(_myElement); } } } } With this I can open a new userControl in myMainwindow Let’s say something like adding child to myMainWinodw,Now I’m trying to click on a button from my userControl so I open another userControl that take the place of the first one I explain: I have the mainWindows it has 3 button first one to open the first UserControl the second one to open the second userControl and the third to open the last UserControl, imagine that I opened the first UserControl let’s call it UC1, In the UC1 I have a button to open the second userControl (let’s call it UC2) I like that when I clik the button from the UC1 the UC2 is opened and take the place of the UC1 (of course the UC2 is still a child of myMainWinodw) I have alredy try to call the AddItemToContainer methode from other methode but nothing is happened Any suggestion please

  • Accessing XAML Object Variables in XAML

    - by Asryael
So, what I'm trying to do is access my Form's width and/or height to use in a storyboard. Essentially, I have a Translate Transform animation to slide what are essentially two pages. The animation works fine with hard coded From/To variables, however I need to use soft variables that enable the animation to start from the left/right of my form no matter what size it is. <Storyboard x:Key="SlideLeftToRight" TargetProperty="RenderTransform.(TranslateTransform.X)" AccelerationRatio=".4" DecelerationRatio=".4"> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="PageViewer" Duration="0:0:0.6" From="WindowWidth" To="0"/> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetName="BorderVisual" Duration="0:0:0.6" From="0" To="NegativeWindowWidth"/> </Storyboard> However, I have no idea how to do so. Any help is greatly appreciated. EDIT: I'm guessing it has something to do with: From="{Binding Width, Source=MainWindow}" However, when I attempt this, I don't know how to make it negative.

  • VSTO Outlook - Contact iteration is SO SLOW!

    - by DustinDavis
I'm working on an outlook add-in and I have a dialog window that allows the user to select contacts. I havent been able to find a way to use the outlook contact window so I am looping through the ContactFolder.Items and doing my work that way. The problem is that I have to handle up to 70K contacts. I tried multi-threading and many other things but it is just so slow. It takes 15 seconds to load 30k contacts. I can load and bind 500k POCO objects in milliseconds but when I need to get the contact items from outlook it just takes forever. The problem seems to be when you actually need to get a property from the contactitem it has to fetch it from the database or something. Is there a contact cache I can pull from? I only need Display and Email, nothing else. An ID would be nice but I don't need it. Can someone please tell me a better way of getting contacts from outlook or at least tell me how to open the outlook contact selection window? I was able to find code to open it but it wont let me because I'm showing a modal dialog and it wont open if there is a modal open.

  • drag drop no longer working once application gets installed.

    - by Sdry
I have an application that has drag and drop functionality to import images and video's. While developing, and testing through Visual Studio this has never given any problems. After installing through a set up project, everything in the application works fine, except the drag and drop, which seems to be doing nothing. Are there any security settings that need to be set through an installer, or something of that nature that could be preventing drag and drop after installation ?

  • There is more then one Point class

    - by Dmitry
Today I hit something very annoying while working with one of my colleagues. It seems there are two Point classes in .NET and by mistake we were trying for a good few minutes to figure out why our "Point(x,y)" wouldn’t take double, but only Int. Turns out we were using the wrong one since the XAML element in question needed the version with Double. So, based on what you actually want to do, make sure you’re using the right namespace. Please see below for MSDN reference links for each namespace version of Point, hope this saves you some time. System.Windows Point (MSDN Ref - Double version) System.Dawing Point (MSDN Ref - Int version)

  • How do you escape parentheses in a Binding indexer

    - by Chris S
I have the following XAML: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White" DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource MyDataKey}}"> <TextBox Name="_myId" Text="{Binding MyDictionary[(Textbox.Name)]" /> </Grid> But it thinks the key in my dictionary is called "(Textbox.Name)", instead of "_myId". The format below works, where I have a property in my class called "_myId": <TextBox Name="_myId" Text="{Binding (Textbox.Name)" /> I've tried using ^ and \ to escape the brackets. Is this syntax supported? I'm trying to avoid duplication of the name in two attributes.

  • Convert user input into ToString() method inside FlowDocument in Workflow 4.0

    - by Jon Ownbey
I have a Workflow 4.0 app that generates emails. In a dialog for creating the email body the user needs to be able to input some string value representing an existing wf instance variable to be inserted as a string at runtime. So they input something like: Email body text including <. (say ExistingVariable is an int or something like that) Any helpful hints for how to convert this text with a ToString() at runtime?

  • Can you view XAML as "regular" .net code (c#\vb.net)?

    - by cody
There are times when I find some example XAML that I want\need to do in code (c#\vb.net). I assume at some point the XAML becomes code, or at least IL. So my questions: Am I correct in assuming that XAML is converted to IL? (or if not IL what does it become?) If the above is correct, when does XAML become IL (or whatever it becomes)? Is there some way to see the XAML in as "code" Thanks.

  • XAML Multi-Level Binding Source/Path Issue

    - by tpartee
So I have this issue I've been trying various ways to tackle all day and nothing's catching and working for it. Basically I have a XAML object called ChromeWindow (derived from Window) which has in it's code-behind a DependencyProperty called AppChrome which stores a reference to an associated ApplicationChrome XAML object (derived from UserControl). ApplicationChrome's XAML file has a few x:Name'd objects (a TextBlock and Border for instance) to which I want to bind to from the ChromeWindow's XAML. The root of the ChromeWindow is x:Name'd as 'rootWindow' in the XAML, so I figured one of these bindings would work: {Binding ElementName=rootWindow, Path=AppChrome.CaptionTextBlock.Text, Mode=OneWay} But that complains of a BindingExpression path error such that the property 'CaptionTextBlock' (an x:Name'd TextBlock in AppChrome's XAML) cannot be found on object of type ApplicationChrome So I tried this binding intead: {Binding Source=AppChrome.CaptionTextBlock, Path=Text, Mode=OneWay} And still no luck, this time complaints of a BindingExpression path error again, but this time that it cannot find the 'CaptionTextBlock' property on object of type String I know I'm missing something really simple here, please help! ;D

  • Binding a TextBox's Width to its parent container's ActualWidth

    - by Praetorian
Hi, I'm loading a Textbox and a Button into a horizontal StackPanel programmatically. The size of the button (which only contains an Image) is fixed, but I can't get the textbox to fill the available width of its parent. This is what the code looks like: StackPanel parent = new StackPanel() { Orientation = Orientation.Horizontal, HorizontalAlignment = HorizontalAlignment.Stretch, VerticalAlignment = VerticalAlignment.Top, }; TextBox textbox = new TextBox() { HorizontalAlignment = HorizontalAlignment.Stretch, VerticalAlignment = VerticalAlignment.Top, //MinWidth = 375, }; Button btn = new Button() { Content = new Image() { MaxHeight = 40, MaxWidth = 40, MinHeight = 40, MinWidth = 40, Margin = new Thickness( 0 ), Source = new BitmapImage( new Uri( "btnimage.png", UriKind.Relative ) ), }, HorizontalAlignment = HorizontalAlignment.Right, BorderBrush = new SolidColorBrush( Colors.Transparent ), Margin = new Thickness( 0 ), }; btn.Click += ( ( s, e ) => OnBtnClicked( s, e, textbox ) ); parent.Children.Add( textbox ); parent.Children.Add( btn ); If I uncomment the MinWidth setting for the textbox it is displayed as I want it to, but I'd like to not have to specify a width explicitly. I tried adding a binding as follows but that doesn't work at all (the textbox just disappears!) Binding widthBinding = new Binding() { Source = parent.ActualWidth, }; passwdBox.SetBinding( TextBox.WidthProperty, widthBinding ); Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Setting a DataGrid background color based on the previous row

    - by Zipper
    I'm trying to setup a grid where I do column sorting, but I wanted to do zebra striping, only rather than every other row or every x rows, I want it to be based on the value of cells. i.e. All cells that contain 0 have a blue background, the next value would have a white background, the next value would be blue, etc.... The problem I have is that I can't seem to find where to actually do the setting of the background colors. I'm using a custom sorter and I tried setting it in there after I re-order the list and set the data source, but it appears that when the data source is set, that the rows don't exist yet. I tried using the DataContextChanged, but that event doesn't seem to be firing. Here is what I have now. namespace Foo.Bar { public partial class FooBar { List<Bla> ResultList { get; set; } SolidColorBrush stripeOneColor = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Gold); SolidColorBrush stripeTwoColor = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.White); //********************************************************************************************* public Consistency() { InitializeComponent(); } //********************************************************************************************* override protected void PopulateTabWithData() { ResultList = GetBlas(); SortAndGroup("Source"); } //********************************************************************************************* private void SortAndGroup(string colName) { IOrderedEnumerable <Bla> ordered = null; switch (colName) { case "Source": case "ID": ordered = ResultList.OrderBy(r => r.Source).ThenBy(r => r.ID); break; case "Name": ordered = ResultList.OrderBy(r => r.Source).ThenBy(r => r.Name); break; case "Message": ordered = ResultList.OrderBy(r => r.Message); break; default: throw new Exception(colName); } ResultList = ordered.ThenBy(r => r.Source).ThenBy(r => r.ID).ToList(); // tie-breakers consistencyDataGrid.ItemsSource = null; consistencyDataGrid.ItemsSource = ResultList; ColorRows(); } //********************************************************************************************* private void consistencyDataGrid_Sorting(object sender, System.Windows.Controls.DataGridSortingEventArgs e) { SortAndGroup(e.Column.Header.ToString()); e.Handled = true; } private void ColorRows() { for (var i = 0; i < ResultList.Count; i++) { var currentItem = ResultList[i]; var row = myDataGrid.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem(currentItem) as DataGridRow; if (row == null) { continue; } if (i > 0) { var previousItem = ResultList[i - 1]; var previousRow = myDataGrid.ItemContainerGenerator.ContainerFromItem(previousItem) as DataGridRow; if (currentItem.Source == previousItem.Source) { row.Background = previousRow.Background; } else { if (previousRow.Background == stripeOneColor) { row.Background = stripeTwoColor; } else { row.Background = stripeOneColor; } } } else { row.Background = stripeOneColor; } } } } } }

  • How can i initialise a server on startup?

    - by djerry
Hey all, I need to make some connections on startup of a server. I'm using the wcf technology for this client-server application. The problem is that the constructor of the server isn't called at any time, so for the moment, i initialize the connections when the first client makes a connection. But this generates problems in a further part. This is my server setup: private static ServiceHost _svc; static void Main(string[] args) { NetTcpBinding binding = new NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.Message); Uri address = new Uri("net.tcp://localhost:8000"); _svc = new ServiceHost(typeof(MonitoringSystemService), address); publishMetaData(_svc, "http://localhost:8001"); _svc.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(IMonitoringSystemService), binding, "Monitoring Server"); _svc.Open(); Console.WriteLine("Listener service gestart op net.tcp://localhost:8000/Monitoring"); Console.ReadLine(); } private static void publishMetaData(ServiceHost svc, string sEndpointAddress) { ServiceMetadataBehavior smb = svc.Description.Behaviors.Find<ServiceMetadataBehavior>(); if (smb != null) { smb.HttpGetEnabled = true; smb.HttpGetUrl = new Uri(sEndpointAddress); } else { smb = new ServiceMetadataBehavior(); smb.HttpGetEnabled = true; smb.HttpGetUrl = new Uri(sEndpointAddress); svc.Description.Behaviors.Add(smb); } } How can i start the server without waiting for a client to logon so i can initialize it. Thanks in advance.

  • C# Read Byte [] to Image

    - by LucasGuitar
I have an application which I'm adding pictures and these are automatically converted to binary and stored in a single file. how can I save several images, I keep in an XML file start and size of each set of refente to an image byte. But it has several images in bytes, whenever I try to select a different set of bytes just opening the same image. I would like your help to be able to fix this and open different images.
