  Hi there, Working on a rather complex system in which users can directly exchange files with eachother from the website. However is any of these things possible: EITHER * Have another user download a file which is still being uploaded by another user ( in progress ) OR * Make a user automaticly ( instant ) download a file from another users PC through our website OR * Make a user automaticly (instant) download a file from our server ( so it's directly downloaded to the users pc and the progress shown on our website of the download progress, without the normal internet explorer dialog downloading the file or firefox ).   If I create this collection: IEnumerable<_TITLE> _titles = null; How can I set the result set from Netflix in this expression: _titles = from t in Titles where t.Id == "ApUFq" select new {t, t.Cast} I am getting: Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Linq.IQueryable' to 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable<_Title'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) I understand it's because I am using an anonymous type. _TITLE is a custom complex object I create that exposes a subset of Netflix properties. If I add "_TITLE" in front the of the "new" it says that my object does not implement IENUMBERABLE. If then _TITLE implements IENUMBERABLE, it says _TITLE does not contain a definition for ADD and still getting conversion error. Basically, I want to set the _TITLE properties with the data returned from Netflix. I have defined _TITLE to contain the fields I need, plus a collection of PERSON (for Cast).

• How can I consume a WSDL (SOAP) web service in Python?

  I want to use a WSDL SOAP based web service in Python. I have looked at the Dive Into Python code but the SOAPpy module does not work under Python 2.5. I have tried using suds which works partly, but breaks with certain types (suds.TypeNotFound: Type not found: 'item'). I have also looked at Client but this does not appear to support WSDL. And I have looked at ZSI but it looks very complex. Does anyone have any sample code for it? The WSDL is https://ws.pingdom.com/soap/PingdomAPI.wsdl and works fine with the PHP 5 SOAP client.

• Import data from an SSRS report via SSIS package

  First, I ask that you not ask 'why.' In the famous words of Tennyson "Ours is not to reason why. Ours is but to do and die." It's one of those, "This is what you have, deal with it." situations. The source data comes from SSRS report. The goal is to load the data into a database via SSIS. The hopeful goal is to avoid human intervention in having to download the SSRS report into Excel or CSV. There will be complex SSIS processing from there on out. Any suggestions are humbly appreciated.

• Calling HttpRequest::getRawRequestMessage() without send()

  I am trying to call getRawRequestMessage() to get the raw HTTP content of the request described by a HttpRequest object, but I notice it always returns an empty string if I don't call send() first. Which kind of defeats my purpose (I want to send the data through other means than the HttpRequest's own send() method). Is there any other way to convert a HttpRequest object to it's raw string equivalent? To give more context: I'm working with a complex class that builds a HttpRequest object and sends requests through it and I want to add a new mode to the class that will work through raw sockets instead. The request is already built in the HttpRequest object and I would like to not have to parse the object manually to generate the HTTP message.

• Is there any way to prevent the display of unmatched xml tags using xslt?

  Here is a contrived example of an xml document. In my real world case, the xml is fairly complex with multiple nested levels. <alphabet> <a>A</a> <b>B</b> <c>C</c> ... and so on </alphabet> Using xslt, I want to transform the document so that only the vowels are printed. In my real world case, we're using empty template match tags to block the display. But that's too verbose for my liking.

  Hi everyone, We're in the middle of making a new e-commerce related PHP application and we have come to the point where we have started to think about how we should solve templating for our customers needs. What we would like to do is offer our customers the possibility of uploading/modifying templates to suit their company:s profile. The initial thought is that we shall not reinvent the wheel, so instead letting our customers upload their templates with FTP, so there will be basic HTML skills required. For those customers that want to modify/customize template and doesnt have the knowledge, we offer that service as well. I know that there's a number of issues to solve before this could be considered safe, like preventing XSS and writing scripts that check through each uploaded file for potential security threats and so on. Of course, there are some part that probably will be to complex for the customer to modify by themselves, so maybe this approach won't apply to all<< template files in the frontend application. But besides that, what would be a good way to handle this?

• Baffled by PHP escaping of double-quotes in HTML forms

  I have a simple PHP script I use to front-end an SQLite database. It's nothing fancy or complex. But I have noticed from looking at the records in the database that anything I enter in a form-field with double-quotes comes across in the form-processing as though I'd escaped the quotes with a backslash. So when I entered a record with the title: British Light Utility Car 10HP "Tilly" what shows up in the database is: British Light Utility Car 10HP \"Tilly\" I don't know where these are coming from, and what's worse, even using the following preg_replace doesn't seem to remove them: $name = preg_replace('/\\"/', '"', $_REQUEST['kits_name']); If I dump out $name, it still bears the unwanted \ characters.

  How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using? Reading code is important -- how does one learn how to write excellent code without having read excellent code? But, sadly, while great writers, of fiction and non-fiction, all spend a great deal of time reading stuff, we, programmers, seem to avoid it like the plague. Worse still, programming books usually go the same way. They might show a pattern or a style, but they often avoid showing good, complex code, and helping one go through it. There are exceptions, of course. I hope. So, with that in mind, what books are to be found which help one learn how to read code?

• MS Access vs SQL Server and others ? Is it worth taking a db server when less than 2 Gb and only 20

  After my experiment with MSAccess vs MySQL which shows MS Access hugely overperforming Mysql odbc insert by a factor 1000% before I would do the same experiment with SQL Server I searched for some other's people and found this one: http://blog.nkadesign.com/2009/access-vs-sql-server-some-stats-part-1/ which says "As a side note, in this particular test, Access offers much better raw performance than SQL Server. In more complex scenarios it’s very likely that Access’ performance would degrade more than SQL Server, but it’s nice to see that Access isn’t a sloth." So is worth bother with some db server when data is less than 2 Gb and users are about 20 (knowing that MS Access theorically supports up to 255 concurrent users though practically it's around a dozen concurrent users only). Are there any real world studies that really compare MS Access with other db in these specific use case ? Because professionaly speaking I keep hearing people systematically recommend DB server from people who have never used Access just because they think DB Server can only perform better in every case which I used to think myself I confess.

  Hi all! WPF is great because there are many things to achieve own goals. By example, for what I understand, adorners can add some controls to a UI element, but I think that the same behavior can be achieved through a custom control that contains the additional element. So, my question is: when should I prefer adorners to a more complex (but I think, more flexible) custom control? Please consider that I'm extensively using MVVM pattern and I would like to bind commands to the additional element. • Bash: any command to replace strings in text files?

  I have a hierarchy of directories containing many text files. I would like to search for a particular text string every time it comes up in one of the files, and replace it with another string. For example, I may want to replace every occurrence of the string "Coke" with "Pepsi". Does anyone know how to do this? I am wondering if there is some sort of Bash command that can do this without having to load all these files in an editor, or come up with a more complex script to do it. I found this page explaining a trick using sed, but it doesn't seem to work in files in subdirectories.

I have a complex GUI with few Tab Controls and it consumes quite a bit of memory which is kept allocated when the application is not active. I was hoping one of you may have got this working along the lines (or similar) Application Active User does work, plays with UI - enters some information in the text boxes and moves around the tabs User minimises the form to work with other applications On Minimise, Save the current state to the disk and dispose the root tabcontrol On Activiate, build the root tabcontrol from the disk and add to the controls collection Before I divein to do this, I thought it will help me if I ask this question here.   Hello, I have just started using Drools on a small project and now I need to write a rule a bit complex and I don't really know what's the best way to do it. I am applying this rule to a list of objects of the same type (this class have a property called numberOfExecutions). I need to check for each element of the list if the numberOfExecutions of that element is bigger than 5% of the total numberOfExecutions (the sum of numberOfExecutions of all the elements in the list). I could not think of a nice way to implement this in drools so far, do you have a suggestion?

• What's the best way to test SQL Server connection programmatically?

  I need to develop a single routine that will be fired each 5 minutes to check if a list of SQL Servers (10 to 12) are up and running. I can try to obtain a simple query in each one of the servers but this means that I have to create a table, view or stored procedure in every server, even if I use any already made SP I need to have a registered user in each server too. The servers are not in the same physical location so having those requirements would be a complex task. Is there a way to simply "ping" from C# one SQL Server? Thanks in advance!

• Proper thread termination in multi-threaded C# application

  I have what I think is a rather complex problem. I have a C# application that utilizes a plug-in architecture using reflection. The application loads plug-in dlls and the user is able to enable/disable them. When a plug-in is enabled, the main app starts a thread to run the plug-in in. In many cases the plug-in may have multiple threads of its own. When I want to disable a plug-in I am calling Thread.Abort(). This seems to kill the initial thread that was created for the plug-in, but any additional threads that the plug-in created continue running. Is there a better way to stop all of the associated plug-in's threads along with the main thread? Thanks.

  Hypothetical: Let's say you are writing complex queries to a database and it is very important that the data you extracted is the correct result set (e.g., that you didn't mess up a JOIN by not using all the correct keys, and all the other things that can go wrong, et cetera). What would you rather use to do this? Would you write the query using Microsoft Access and its Design View, or would you write it in native SQL using a SQL IDE?   Hi! I am looking for a stand-alone, easy to use from C# code, template engine. What I want to do is create an html and xml files with placeholders for data, and fill them with data from my code. The engine needs to support loops (duplicating parts of the template form more that one object) and conditions (add parts of the template to the final html/xml only if some conditions are true). Can someone recommend a good option for me, and add a link to more-or-less such code sample, and some documentation about how to use the recommended component for my needs? • Perl launched from Java takes forever

  I know this is an absolute shot in the dark, but we're absolutely perplexed. A perl (5.8.6) script run by Java (1.5) is taking more than an hour to complete. The same script, when run manually from the command line takes 12 minutes to complete. This is on a Linux host. Logging is the same in both cases and the script is run with the same parameters in both cases. The script does some complex stuff like Oracle DB access, some scp's, etc, but again, it does the exact same actions in both cases. We're stumped. Has anyone ever run into a similar situation? If not and if you were faced with the same situation, how would you consider debugging it?

• C++: Get char after space character instead or return carriage.

  Okay this is similar to my last question but what I ended up doing was way too complex for something as simple as this. I simply need to get a single character or number (I will know which of these I am receiving) from the console after I press space, instead of pressing enter. I'm sure there must be a way to have the terminal read input after a space instead of a '\n'. I need to read inputs from the console in which the succeeding data types will vary depending on what the first input is, and I think reading the entire line, parsing it into strings, then parsing some of those into ints is a bit unnecessary. So Is this actually not possible in C++ or have I just not found it yet?

• How to get ListView to grow to the size of content

  So I have a fairly complex activity the parent being a linearlayout with a table with some basic info and buttons. Then a couple listviews that the user can add items to. So these listviews grow more and more as the user uses the app. The problem I'm running into is the Linearlayout is bigger then the resolution of the screen and so it needs to scroll. So the scrolling doesn't work on the Listviews. I've tried playing with changing the layout_height of the listview and its child element with no success. Is there a way to make these couple listviews expand out to the amount of children? Or am I going about this all wrong? If so what other controls can I use? I'm open to any ideas. I really just don't know how to go about this. Thanks
