Winlibre - An Aptitude-Synaptic for Windows. Would that be useful?

Hi everyone. Last year, in 2009 GSoC, I participated with an organization called Winlibre. The basic idea is having a project similar to Aptitude (or Apt-get) and a GUI like Synaptic but for Windows and just to hold (initially), only open source software. The project was just ok, we finished what we considered was a good starting point but unfortunately, due to different occupations of the developers, the project has been idle almost since GSoC finished. Now, I have some energy, time and interest to try to continue this development. The project was divided in 3 parts: A repository server (which i worked on, and which was going to store and serve packages and files), a package creator for developers, and the main app, which is apt-get and its GUI. I have been thinking about the project, and the first question that came to my mind is.. actually is this project useful for developers and Windows users? Keep in mind that the idea is to solve dependencies problems, and install packages "cleanly". I'm not a Windows developer and just a casual user, so i really don't have a lot of experience on how things are handled there, but as far as I have seen, all installers handle those dependencies. Will windows developers be willing to switch from installers to a packages way of handling installations of Open source Software? Or it's just ok to create packages for already existing installers? The packages concept is basically the same as .deb or .rpm files. I still have some other questions, but basically i would like to make sure that it's useful in someway to users and Windows developers, and if developers would find this project interesting. How To: Custom HTML / CSS Text Button for "Facebook like" & "Twitter Follow"

Configuring visual subversion to exclude

I have been searching for any documentation on how to exclude files for visual svn but have not found any. All the documentation I find seems to not match my file structure or I am missing some files/directories referenced. For example the only file I find with configuration items in it seems to be completely commented out and missing the miscellaneous section as well as any auto properties enable - etc... Ultimately I need to exclude some files so that my development can continue without SVN errors. I am constantly receiving errors for pbuser and other project files and would like to make sure this is not causing some of my other headaches. C++ - Totally suspend windows application

Hello! I am developing a simple WinAPI application and started from writing my own assertion system. I have a macro defined like ASSERT(X) which would make pretty the same thing as assert(X) does, but with more information, more options and etc. At some moment (when that assertion system was already running and working) I realized there is a problem. Suppose I wrote a code that does some action using a timer and (just a simple example) this action is done while handling WM_TIMER message. And now, the situation changes the way that this code starts throwing an assert. This assert message would be shown every TIMER_RESOLUTION milliseconds and would simply flood the screen. Options for solving this situation could be: 1) Totally pause application running (probably also, suspend all threads) when the assertion messagebox is shown and continue running after it is closed 2) Make a static counter for the shown asserts and don't show asserts when one of them is already showing (but this doesn't pause application) 3) Group similiar asserts and show only one for each assert type (but this also doesn't pause application) 4) Modify the application code (for example, Get / Translate / Dispatch message loop) so that it suspends itself when there are any asserts. This is good, but not universal and looks like a hack. To my mind, option number 1 is the best. But I don't know any way how this can be achieved. What I'm seeking for is a way to pause the runtime (something similiar to Pause button in the debugger). Does somebody know how to achieve this? Also, if somebody knows an efficient way to handle this problem - I would appreciate your help. Thank you.

android app doesn't show on the emulator

I made an android application using eclipse and it is working fine when I started developing my app. But then as I continue to develop the app the emulator seems to be not updating the application prior to the changes I have made on the code. So I tried deleting my avd and create a new one every time I run my app, and that seems to have worked. Now my problem is that my emulator doesn't show my app. It says "Failed to install *.apk on device 'emulator-5554': An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine". I searched for ways to solved it but none of it seems to have worked. I tried killing the adb process (as most my searches would say) on the task manager but still my app doesn't show on the emulator. The emulator is running and all but my icon is nowhere to be found. Am I misssing out something? Is the problem connected to the first problem i had before? As I said, I started developing android app recently, so please bear with me. :) I appreciate all your help.Thanks in advance.

The issue I am having, I call upon the function - However the code after the function call is continuing before the function has returned a value. Hi, I solved this problem by following a straightforward but not optimal algorithm. I sorted the vector in descending order and after that substracted numbers from max to min to see if I get a + b + c = d. Notice that I haven't used anywhere the fact that elements are natural, distinct and 10 000 at most. I suppose these details are the key. Does anyone here have a hint over an optimal way of solving this? Thank you in advance! Creating 3rd party library in Android. Need suggestions!!

Hello all, I am planning to create a 3rd party library for android application developers. Also the main concern is I do not want the users to make many changes to their code base. The following are the main things I want to clarify before diving into the project. 1) I want to attach my own event handlers dynamically to the application. As per above limitations I mentioned, I cannot make users put the relevant code in their handlers as I need to support existing applications as well. I found out that we cannot attach more than one event handler per one listener. For example Button.setOnclickListener(somelistener) .. will set one listener. In traditional desktop applications we can add more than one handlers but here if I do one more Button.setOnclickListener(someOtherListener) this one overwrites the previous listener. Is there any way I can attach my own listener along with application's existing listeners dynamically? Also is it really not supported on android yet? 2) Is there any 3rd party alternative that exists already that monitors user's interactions in androidi? 3) If this is not supported now are there any future plans to support this feature? Please let me know about this as I did not get much feedback on Stackoverflow. Any suggestions and workarounds would really help me continue with this project. Regards, Lalith

How can I speed-up this loop (in C)?

Hi! I'm trying to parallelize a convolution function in C. Here's the original function which convolves two arrays of 64-bit floats: void convolve(const Float64 *in1, UInt32 in1Len, const Float64 *in2, UInt32 in2Len, Float64 *results) { UInt32 i, j; for (i = 0; i < in1Len; i++) { for (j = 0; j < in2Len; j++) { results[i+j] += in1[i] * in2[j]; } } } In order to allow for concurrency (without semaphores), I created a function that computes the result for a particular position in the results array: void convolveHelper(const Float64 *in1, UInt32 in1Len, const Float64 *in2, UInt32 in2Len, Float64 *result, UInt32 outPosition) { UInt32 i, j; for (i = 0; i < in1Len; i++) { if (i > outPosition) break; j = outPosition - i; if (j >= in2Len) continue; *result += in1[i] * in2[j]; } } The problem is, using convolveHelper slows down the code about 3.5 times (when running on a single thread). Any ideas on how I can speed-up convolveHelper, while maintaining thread safety?

hi, I am storing pointers to elements of a vec_A in an array A* a_ptrs[3] . Assume that vec_A will not be resized. So, a_ptrs[i] will point to the correct element. My question is: Suppose A* a_ptrs[3] is declared in a class B. Since it is not created using 'new' I am guessing I don't need to delete it in the destructor. Sending an AJAX Request - Can't get to work

I'm trying to make an AJAX GET request, but I simply cannot get it to work. I want to retrieve the HTML source of example.com. I've previously used JQuery to send AJAX requests, but I use JQuery only for its AJAX capabilities so it's a waste to include the 30KB file for one task. Timer not beginning from 00:00

I have a Game in which there is a timer involved. For each two minutes that passes a new round between different players begins. So, I have a text box starting from 00:00 and changes each second until it is equal to 02:00. Now, I want to save the state of the game in the middle of a round if the user closes the form. What I need to do is that upon loading, the textbox starts at the time that the user left the game the last time and continue up till 02:00 normally. How can I do this? Select form children when multiple forms are present jQuery

I am dealing with a webpage that has multiple forms..some basic HTML forms and some AJAX forms. I have a created validation for inputs, let me give an example...if an input has a class="required" whenever a submit button is pressed if any required classes are empty then the form doesnt submit. Which works great...until you have multiple forms with required fields that dont apply to the section your submitting. I am able to find the closest form $(this).closest("form") and it gets me the form element properly, I then need to be able to loop only through the children of that form. I have tried: .children(':input'), .find('input') and honestly to many to list. MVC and Checkboxes...leaves a bit to be desired

Here is my problem. I have a list of models that are displayed to the user. On the left is a checkbox for each model to indicate that the user wants to choose this model (in this case, we're building products a user can add to their shopping cart). The model has no concept of being chosen...it strictly has information about the product in question. I've talked with a few other developers after having gone through and the best I could come up with is getting the formcollection and string parsing the key values to determine whether the checkbox is checked or not. This doesn't seem ideal. I was thinking there would be something more strongly bound, but I can't figure out a way to do it. I tried creating another model that had a boolean property to represent being checked and a property of the model and passing a list of that model type to the view and creating a ActionResult on the controller that accepts a list of the new model / checked property, but it comes back null. Am I just thinking too much like web forms and should just continue on with parsing checkbox values?

seriouosly elusive for loop (racking my brains!)

I've got a loop issue in Python 2.72 that's really frustrating me. ASP disable button during postback

Arrays (toString) not output correctly

Hello, Actually this tread is continuing from the other one. There wasn't enough characters to continue there. Anyway. the problem is that the output is "1(10) 2(23) 3(29)". Even though I could return string for the array values (10,23,29) and used string reference as 1, 2 and 3. My question is it possible to return index values 1,2,3 and as well as array values. Am I making an sense. Hello I have three different tables Talk ID type_id YEAR NUM NUM_LETTER DATE series_id TALK speaker_id SCRIPREF DONE DOUBLE_SID DOUBLE_TYP LOCAL_CODE MISSING RESTRICTED WHY_RESTRI SR_S_1 SR_E_1 BCV_1 SR_S_2 SR_E_2 BCV_2 SR_S_3 SR_E_3 BCV_3 SR_S_4 SR_E_4 BCV_4 QTY_IV organisation_id recommended topic_id thumbnail mp3_file_size duration version Product_component id product_id talk_id position version Product id created product_type_id last_modified last_modified_by num_sold current_stock min_stock max_stock comment organisation_id series_id name subscription_type_id recipient_id discount_start discount_amount discount_desc discount_finish discount_percent voucher_amount audio_points talk_id price_override product_desc instant_download_status_id downloads instant_downloads promote_start promote_finish promote_desc restricted from_tape discontinued discontinued_reason discontinued_date external_url version I want to create a procedure that will check if select the id from talk and compare it with the id of product to see if there is a product id in the table and if there isn't then create it however my problem is that my tables talk and product can't talk, as id in talk is related to talk_id in product_component and id in product is related to product_id in product_component. Are there any ways for this to be done? Exchange 2010 setup /prepareAD fails to run

I've tried installing Exchange 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 (only domain controller and all-in-one system). I did setup.exe /prepareAD, setup /prepareSchema and it worked fine the first time I did it. Unfortunately due to problem with Hub Transport installation related to (at least from what I've read) IPv6 being disabled (some say disabling it helped them while some enabling helped them). I did it the proper way by using registry entry to disable IPv6 but it still errored out. So i managed to uninstall everything (renamed some old entries in registry of failed Hub Transport roles and tried to reinstal Exchange after rebooting server. Unfortunetly running setup /prepareAD now gives an error: D:setup /PrepareAd Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Unattended Setup By continuing the installation process, you agree to the license terms of Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. Unfortunetly if i rerun the setup it complains that it needs setup /prepareAD to be run first. Basically all that works now is setup /PrepareSchema and setup /PrepareDomain complains that prepareAD wasn't done.
