• How to open a file quickly in visual studio .net

  In visual studio, we can open a file in a #Include statement by right clicking the filename in include statement and then clicking "Open Document". But sometimes, when I want to open a file, I don't remember where it was in the project or where has it been included. What I do is that I open any file, add a #include statement for that file, then right-click-Open Document to open the file and then remove the #include statement that I added just to open this file. Can someone plz tell me a more straight forward way of quickly opening a file without searching for it? I am using Visual Studio 2008

  Hi, I am having trouble parsing self closing XML tags using SAX. I am trying to extract the link tag from the Google Base API.I am having reasonable success in parsing regular tags. • Background positioning - CSS

  Please see attached screenshot The background is a bit off in both IE and chrome (although it was working before? hence the exact numbers??), although in ffox it looked allright.. • How do I get C# to garbage collect aggressively?

  I have an application that is used in image processing, and I find myself typically allocating arrays in the 4000x4000 ushort size, as well as the occasional float and the like. Currently, the .NET framework tends to crash in this app apparently randomly, almost always with an out of memory error. 32mb is not a huge declaration, but if .NET is fragmenting memory, then it's very possible that such large continuous allocations aren't behaving as expected. Is there a way to tell the garbage collector to be more aggressive, or to defrag memory (if that's the problem)? I realize that there's the GC.Collect and GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers calls, and I've sprinkled them pretty liberally through my code, but I'm still getting the errors. It may be because I'm calling dll routines that use native code a lot, but I'm not sure. I've gone over that C++ code, and make sure that any memory I declare I delete, but still I get these C# crashes, so I'm pretty sure it's not there. I wonder if the C++ calls could be interfering with the GC, making it leave behind memory because it once interacted with a native call-- is that possible? If so, can I turn that functionality off?

  I currently have a project that uses various DB access technologies mainly for showcasing or for demos. Currently we have: Namespace App.Data (App.Data.dll) Folder NHibernate Folder EntityFramework Folder LinqToSql The above structure is ok as we only use Sql Server as the DB. But going forward we will be including Oracle, MySql etc. So what would be a better structure with this in mind? • mod_rewrite: remove trailing slash (only one!)

  Hello. I use mod_rewrite/.htaccess for pretty URLs. I'm using this condition/rule to eliminate trailing slashes (or rather: rewrite to the non-trailing-slash-URL, by a 301 redirect; I'm doing this to avoid duplicate content and because I like URLs with no trailing slashes better): RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^\.localhost$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.+)/$ http://%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L] Working well so far. Only drawback: it also forwards "multiple-trailing-slash"-URLs to non-trailing-slash-URLs. Example: http://example.tld/foo/bar////// forwards to http://example.tld/foo/bar while I only want http://example.tld/foo/bar/ to forward to http://example.tld/foo/bar. So, is it possible to only eliminate trailing slashes if it's actually just one trailing slash? Sorry if this is a somewhat annoying or weird question! Thanks.

  Toward the end of Chapter 16 of the "C++ Primer" I encountered the following code (I've removed a bunch of lines): class Sales_item { public: // default constructor: unbound handle Sales_item(): h() { } private: Handle<Item_base> h; // use-counted handle }; My problem is with the Sales_item(): h() { } line. For the sake of completeness, let me also quote the parts of the Handle class template that I think are relevant to my question (I think I don't need to show the Item_base class): template <class T> class Handle { public: // unbound handle Handle(T *p = 0): ptr(p), use(new size_t(1)) { } private: T* ptr; // shared object size_t *use; // count of how many Handles point to *ptr }; I would have expected something like either: a) Sales_item(): h(0) { } which is a convention the authors have used repeatedly in earlier chapters, or b) Handle<Item_base>() if the intention was to invoke the default constructor of the Handle class. Instead, what the book has is Sales_item(): h() { }. My gut reaction is that this is a typo, since h() looks suspiciously similar to a function declaration. On the other hand, I just tried compiling under g++ and running the example code that uses this class and it seems to be working correctly. Any thoughts?

• What are the primary advantages of Visual Studio Team Foundation Server over the other versions?

  We are looking into the possibility of upgrading to Team Foundation Server 2008 for our development team. One of our primary reasons is some of the deployment capabilities surrounding BizTalk 2009, but I am curious what other benefits there are for other projects outside of BizTalk. Some of our interests so far are moving to a one click build and deploy process, the addition of unit tests, and continuous integration. Some definite steps forward for the company I work for. What other benefits or information should I look at as I pitch this to upper management? I am looking for technical reasons, money is a not really a concern for this discussion.

• Does "delegate" mean a type or an object?

  Reading from MSDN: "A delegate is a type that references a method. Once a delegate is assigned a method, it behaves exactly like that method." Does then "delegate" mean a type or an object?! ...It cannot be both. It seems to me that the single word is used in two different meanings: a type containing a reference to a method of some specified signature, an object of that type, which can be actually called like a method. I would prefer a more precise vocabulary and use "delegate type" for the first case. I have been recently reading a lot about events and delegates and that ambiguity was making me confused many times. Some other uses of "delegate" word in MSDN in the first meaning: "Custom event delegates are needed only when an event generates event data" "A delegate declaration defines a class that is derived from the class System.Delegate" Some other uses of "delegate" word in MSDN in the second meaning: "specify a delegate that will be called upon the occurrence of some event" "Delegates are objects that refer to methods. They are sometimes described as type-safe function pointers" What do you think? Why did people from Microsoft introduced this ambiguity? Am I the only person to have conceptual problems with different notions being referenced with the same word.

• How to make an NSURL that contains a | (pipe character)?

  Hi all, I am trying to access google maps' forward geocoding service from my iphone app. When i try to make an NSURL from a string with a pipe in it I just get a nil pointer. NSURL *searchURL = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=6th+and+pine&bounds=37.331689,-122.030731|37.331689,-122.030731&sensor=false"]; I dont see any other way in the google api to send bounds coordinates with out a pipe. Any ideas about how I can do this?

• asp.net mvc script and style references

  I'm trying to include script and style references that will not break on deployment, however I can not even get the references to work locally. I have tried using Url.Content() and MVCContrib's <%=Html.ScriptInclude("")%>. My scripts are in a Scripts folder on the root of the site; my styles are in the usual Content/css/ folder. The scripts render like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" ></script> This will not work in a view page in the Views folder. What am I doing wrong and what is the best way to handle this? I would have thought Url.Content() would at least work for styles but used in my master page, the link rendered <link href="/Content/css/Site.css rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> This does not work, because the Master Page is in a Shared folder, so what is really the way forward with this?

• C++ Namespaces & templates question

  Hi! I have some functions that can be grouped together, but don't belong to some object / entity and therefore can't be treated as methods. So, basically in this situation I would create a new namespace and put the definitions in a header file, the implementation in cpp file. Also (if needed) I would create an anonymous namespace in that cpp file and put all additional functions that don't have to be exposed / included to my namespace's interface there. See the code below (probably not the best example and could be done better with another program architecture, but I just can't think of a better sample...) Sample code (header) namespace algorithm { void HandleCollision(Object* object1, Object* object2); } Sample code (cpp) #include "header" // Anonymous namespace that wraps // routines that are used inside 'algorithm' methods // but don't have to be exposed namespace { void RefractObject(Object* object1) { // Do something with that object // (...) } } namespace algorithm { void HandleCollision(Object* object1, Object* object2) { if (...) RefractObject(object1); } } So far so good. I guess this is a good way to manage my code, but I don't know what should I do if I have some template-based functions and want to do basically the same. If I'm using templates, I have to put all my code in the header file. Ok, but how should I conceal some implementation details then? Like, I want to hide RefractObject function from my interface, but I can't simply remove it's declaration (just because I have all my code in a header file)... • Passing a outside variable into a <asp:sqldatasource> tag. ASP.NET 2.0

  I'm designing some VB based ASP.NET 2.0, and I am trying to make more use of the various ASP tags that visual studio provides, rather than hand writing everything in the code-behind. Am I declaring the variable wrong in the query? I thought external variables share the same name with a @ prefixed. from what I understand, this should be placing the value I want into the query when it executes the select. EDIT: Okay, thanks for the advice so far, first error was corrected, I need to use : and not @ for the variable declaration in the query. Now it generates an ORA-01745 invalid host/bind variable name. EDIT AGAIN: Okay, looks like user was a reserved word. It works now! Thanks for other points of view on this one. I hadn't thought of that approach.

• My list item's child label elements disappear in IE on accordion menu opening

  I've got an app that's working pretty flawlessly in Chrome and FF, however, when I view it in IE, all is well until I click on a header element to activate it (jQuery accordion). What happens then is that I see a brief flash where the content is there, then suddenly the entire left column disappears. This column is generated by a floated label element with a class of ".left" as seen below... <ul class="menu collapsible"> <li class='expand sectionTitle'><a href='#'>General Settings</a> <ul class='acitem'> <li class="section"> <label class="left">This item if floated left with a defined width of 190px via css. This is the item that's disappearing after a brief display</label> <input class="input" value="input element here" /> <label class="description">This element has a margin-left:212px; set via css in order to be positioned to the right of the label element as if in an adjacent table cell. When I add a max-width property to this element, it disappears in IE too!</label> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> As you can see from the comments in the code above (for the two label elements) the description label disappears once I set a max-width on it (I don't have a max-width on the left label element, but it disappears nonetheless). The initial view of this UL menu is fine (note the expand class declaration which makes this part of the accordion open at startup. Its not until I click the "General Settings" to toggle it closed, then back open, that the left class elements disappear (and only in IE)

• trigger click behaviour of image-map's area

  I have a image map set up and each area in the image map has a href defined. the href on area contains urls to other pages in my application. i generate a have a small ul which lists down name attribute of the area tag. i want the dynamically generated ul/lis to imitate click behaviour of area tag. for this, i have the following jquery set up - $('li').click(function(e){ $('area[name='+$(this).html()+']').trigger('click'); }); but the above works well only in ie6+. ff does not fire the click event. i also tried the click() variant but to no avail. looking forward for some help. • Determining if and where a photon will collide with a polygon in 3D space.

  The problem is straight forward: 1) We have a photon traveling from Point 1 (x,y,z) to Point 2 (x,y,z), both of which could be located anywhere in 3D space. 2) We have a polygon that is both rotated randomly on the x-axis and/or y-axis and also located anywhere in 3D space. 3) We want to find: a) if the photon will collide with the polygon at all and b) if it does where will that be (x,y,z)? • How can I get swig to wrap a linked list-type structure?

  Here's what I take to be a pretty standard header for a list. Because the struct points to itself, we need this two-part declaration. Call it listicle.h: typedef struct _listicle listicle; struct _listicle{ int i; listicle *next; }; I'm trying to get swig to wrap this, so that the Python user can make use of the listicle struct. Here's what I have in listicle.i right now: %module listicle %{ #include "listicle.h" %} %include listicle.h %rename(listicle) _listicle; %extend listicle { listicle() {return malloc (sizeof(listicle));} } As you can tell by my being here asking, it doesn't work. All the various combinations I've tried each fail in their own special way. [This one: %extend defined for an undeclared class listicle. Change it to %extend _listicle (and fix the constructor) and loading in Python gives type object '_listicle' has no attribute '_listicle_swigregister'. And so on.] Suggestions?

  What I have: A person daily send to me an email, which has a zip'ed XML attachment. What I do: I save that attachment, unpack it and import via XML importerer to my web site. What I need: Automatic script, what I can automatically forward my email to ex.: [email protected] and read that attachment via some php file in my website, which maybe will be activated daily via server cronjob. • Expression Studio - v2 good enough for learning?

  I have VS 2008, and looking forward to moving fairly quickly to VS2010. Our applications (we only have a few) are all winforms apps - mostly VB. I want to start to learn WPF. My version of Expression Studio is version 2. I have heard that the improvements made from version 2 to version 3 are significant. If it follows the paradigm of version 3 being the adult app (past the infancy of version 1 and the awkwardness of version 2), then I suppose it would be worth the investment to get it before starting to learn. But, unless my company was willing to pay, I am hoping to keep costs low. Can anyone share some experience - is version 2 good enough to learn on, or should I bite the bullet and smooth my learning experience by going with version 3? Thanks!

• How do I construct a 3D model of a room from 2 stereo cameras? What is the determining factor to an

  Currently, I have extracted depth points to construct a 3D model from 2 stereo cameras. The methods I have used are openCV graphCut method and a software from http://sourceforge.net/projects/reconststereo/. However, the generated 3D models are not very accurate, which leads me to question: 1) What is the problem with pixel-based method? 2) Should I change my pixel-based method to feature-based or object-recognition-based method? Is there a best method? 3) Are there any other ways to do such reconstruction? Additionally, the depth extracted comes only from 2 images. What if I am turning the camera 360 degrees to obtain a video? Looking forward to suggestion on how to combine this depth information. Thank you very much :)

• Drupal does not recognize my website has been installed

  After a successful Drupal install, I was trying to follow the security recommendations and reverted the settings.php file to 444 permissions (read, read, read). Then, all of a sudden, right after doing that, Drupal does not recognize the installation process was completed. It went back to the install screen. Worst of all. I did chmod back to 666 (write, write, write) but it does not work any more. When I move forward as if I was going to install Drupal again, he tells me he does not have permissions to create the files folder under sites/default... But since the installation has already been completed... the files folder is already there... I am puzzled... Could it be some sort of server caching? Since this is one of my first adventures with a Linux server, I am a bit confused. Any help appreciated... Thanks.
