  • Pre-loading external files (CSS, JavaScript) for other pages

    I'm curious if there is an efficient way to wait for the front page of a site to load, and then pre-load CSS and script files that I know will likely be needed for the other pages on the site. I want the front page of the site to be as fast as possible (lean and mean). It's likely that the user will not immediately click on a link. Since there will likely be some idle time, this seems like an opportune time to pre-load some of the external assets. Pre-loading should cause them to become cached. When the user does click on another page, the only request needed will be for the content and possibly some images, etc. Has anyone done this? Is it a bad idea? Is there an elegant way to implement it?

  • JavaScript + Adding items into dropdown

    I have two dropdowns in my JSP page 1. lstA test1 test2 test3 test4 2. lstB Now on selection of lstA, I want to populate all the items of lstA into lstB except the select one, also the content of lstA should remain the same. How can I achieve this? I tried to do it, but from lstA some random items get removed, which is quite wired.

    Lets suppose I made a class called Person. var Person = function(fname){this.fname = fname;}; pObj is the object I made from this class. var pObj = new Person('top'); now I add one property to Person class, say lname. Person.prototype.lname = "Thomsom"; now pObj.lname gets me "Thomson". My question is that, when pObj didn't find the property lname in it, how does it know where to look for.

    parseInt("7em", 10); returns 7 in all browsers I tested [*]. But can I rely on this? The reason I ask is, that I want to perform some calculations based on em, like /* elem1.style.top uses em units */ elem2.style.top = parseInt(elem1.style.top, 10) + 1 + "em"; I could do this with regular expressions, but parseInt is easier to use, and probably a bit faster. Or is there another solution (maybe using jQuery)? [*] Tested so far on: IE 6, IE 8, Safari 4, Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.5

    i have a question. I need to detect using javacript (or JQuery) when a div is contained inside another and when is not contained anymore. I need something like this: if(div #result).contains (div #dbResults) then{#explainMsg.hide, #errorMsg.hide; if(div #result).not contains (div #dbResults) anymore then {#errorMsg.show}. the "not contains anymore" part is because the div's are added dynamically server side. Obliviously is not the code, but what i need to obtain. thanks

The issue I am having, I call upon the function - However the code after the function call is continuing before the function has returned a value. There appear to be a lot of similar questions here , but all I saw was escaping problems, ANd I have tried all that I know .. What is wrong here ?? I assume it is not a simple syntax error - or is it ? ( one which I can not find .. )

    yes, i know - that question has thousands of answers. please, don't tell me about "setTimeout" method becasuse - yes, everything is possible with that but not so easy as using sleep() method. for example: function fibonacci(n) { console.log("Computing Fibonacci for " + n + "..."); var result = 0; //wait 1 second before computing for lower n sleep(1000); result = (n <= 1) ? 1 : (fibonacci(n - 1) + fibonacci(n - 2)); //wait 1 second before announcing the result sleep(1000); console.log("F(" + n + ") = " + result); return result; } if you know how to get the same result using setTimeout - tell me ;) fibanacci is pretty easy task, because there not more than 2 recursions, but how about n-recursions (like fib(1) + fib(2) + .. + fib(n) and sleep after every "+"? nah, sleep would be muuuuuch easier. but still i can't get working example of implementing it. while (curr - start < time) { curr = (...) } is tricky, but it won't work (just stops my browser and then throw all console.logs at once).

    I have this authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'+ '<li><a href="auth/create_account">create account</a></li>'; It works fine in Firefox, but Internet Explorer gives me an "Error: Object doesn't support this property or method" I'm mystified - what could be going on here? There's a comment line above the offending line, could that possibly be making a difference? //authnav='<li class="last"><a href="auth/login">login</a></li>'; Check out the page yourself at http://www.imagineelection.com.     I've tried some HTML DOM code from several sites, but it isn't working. It isn't adding anything. Does anyone have a working example on this? this.img = document.createElement("img"); this.img.src = "img/eqp/"+this.apparel+"/"+this.facing+"_idle.png"; src = getElementById("gamediv"); src.appendChild(this.img) But it isn't adding anything to the div. (gamediv) I've tried document.body as well, with no result. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, so I know there are tons of ways to simulate inheritance and other OO features. I have chosen one to use for my project and am wondering if I can create an instance and add stuff to it and keep it contained (within braces). Consider the following: function BaseClass(){ <this.stuff here> } function SubClass(){ this.superClass = BaseClass(); this.superClass(); <this.other stuff here> } myObj = new SubClass(); so myObj is an instance of SubClass. I can add things to myObj like: myObj.blah = "funtimes"; What I would like is to be able to add stuff to the "instance" and keep it organized in braces much like the constructor. psuedo code like: myObj = new SubClass() { var blah = "funtimes" <more instance specific stuff here> } Is something like this possible?   • Figuring out Host's Top Domain with Javascript

    Is there a way to figure out what the top domain for the hostname of the current page is? The problem I have is that the script could be on .com domain, or in an international domain like .co.uk So for: jobs.telegraph.co.uk - top domain is:telegraph.co.uk jobs.nytimes.com - top domain is nytimes.com The problem is that location.hostname , and the document.domain give the entire domain. One route is to have a list of all TLDs (too much to carry around) and parse based on that. Another route was if 2 characters after last ".", than internationaltion - hence last two are the TLD, but that does not hold true for all international domains.
