  • MS SQL Specific Tables Hanging at Queries

    I have SQL Server 2008. I run a query in a table on a database. The weirdest thing keeps happening. I run a simple select statement on the table. I know there are 62 rows in the table but it gets stuck at row 48 and goes on "querying...". Waited already for hours and it didn't move on from there. I only know of two programs, and one reporting service connecting to that particular table and one other user. Does anyone have any idea on what could be causing this and how I could trace the source of the lock on that table? As a side note, I noted that the logs only had a notice that Autogrow failed the day before I checked. Could this have something to do with it?

    I am currently crossing the jungle of SQL Server scale-out technologies like replication, log-shipping, mirroring... I have the following constraints on my choice: I want the read-only load to be spread accross the primary and the secondary (mirror, subscriber) server Write load can be sent directly to the primary server The solution should be nearly maintainance free. Schema changes should just replicate to the secondary server (attention: replication has some serious constraints here as it seems) Written data should be accessible very quickly (in under 1s, but better would be instantaneously) on the secondary server On server failure I can tollerate up to one hour of data loss easily.   • Why is [date] + [time] non-deterministic in SQL Server 2008?

    I'm trying to do the following for my IIS logs table: ALTER TABLE [W3CLog] ADD [LogTime] AS [date] + ([time] - '1900-01-01') PERSISTED However, SQL Server 2008 tells me: Computed column 'LogTime' in table 'W3CLog' cannot be persisted because the column is non-deterministic. The table has this definition: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[W3CLog]( [Id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, ... [date] [datetime] NULL, [time] [datetime] NULL, ... ) Why is that non-deterministic? I really need to index that field. The table currently has 1598170 rows, and it is a pain to query if we can't do an index seek on the full time. Since this is being UNION'd with some other log formats, we can't very easily just use the two columns separately.

    I need to create a field called “rank”, that ranks each part ID based on total sales, by assigning a sequential number based on total sales, where the higher the total sales, then the lower the rank value. For example, the part ID with the most sales would have a rank value of “1” and the part ID with the next highest sales would have a rank value of “2” and the part ID with the lowest sales would rank with the highest number. If 2 different parts ID’s have the same total sales, then it is OK if they share the same rank.     We have a SQL 2008 instance Server01\instance02. The port is set to 1466. We've set up a VIP named Server1 Attempting to connect to Server1\instance02 does not work. Server1,1466 does work. We have ports 1433, 1434 and 1466 open. Can we configure this to be able to use the name without any changes to the SQL client. Thanks!!

Access is denied The SQL service is running under "Network Service" account The service starts fine if I use the services window. Could somebody help me figure out why I am receiving this error?

    We have a test server running Windows Server 2008 R2 that I want to put SQL Server 2008 onto. I have an MSDN subscription and thought I could install (x64 version) SQL2008 but the installation warned me this wasn't compatible with this version of windows (reporting that I am running Windows 7). When I log onto my MSDN to download an update the only SQL Server R2 options I have are for Express edition or Enterprise evaluation (I am logged in to subscriber downloads). Is there no standard R2 edition or am I missing something?

    I've installed SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and when I try to configure it when clicking on "Windows Service Identity" I get this error message: There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an error retrieving WMI properties. The exception details are: InvalidArgument=Value of '1' is not valid for 'SelectedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex Here is a screenshot: EDIT: This problem disappeared after I installed SP3 for SQL Server. I have problems on the next panes though.

We tried copy database, but that does not keep the whole db synchronus at the end of the process but only tablewise.

    This is my first attempt at virtualizing SQL server on VMWare and I want to make sure I am doing things correctly. Should I have SQL server installed on the C: drive / same partition as the OS, Then add a virtual disk for the Data files, say 300GB, and then another virtual disk for the log files say 100GB? Or should I add 2 300GB vdisks, for the data files mirror them in the operating system, and then add a non mirrored vdisk of 100GB for LogFiles??

Using the same installer disks i was able to install the whole works on a server. I do not have any version of sql currently installed on the xp machine.. am i doing something wrong?

    I tried to create a full-text index and got this error: Msg 9967, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 A default full-text catalog does not exist in database 'foo' or user does not have permission to perform this action. FYI--I connected to the target sql server with Windows Authentication. What do I need to do in Sql Server 2005 and/or in Windows Server 2003 to get permissions? Please be thorough (assume I am a n00b). Thank you.

How can I set the Server Agent to Auto-Start after a computer restart? Is there a particular Windows Service I need to set as auto-start ?

  • Adding features to an SQL Server 2008 standard with SP1

    I have MS SQL Server 2008 with SP1 installed. I want to add the Full text feature to the installation. Do I need to run the SP1 update again after I add this feature? If I do try to run it (SQLServer2008SP1-KB968369-x64-ENU) it fails with this error: "There are no SQL Server instances or shared features that can be updated on this computer". Should I uninstall SP1 and re-install? Doesnt make much sense.
