  Does anyone know how to delete Time Machine in Mac OS X 10.6.4? Before answering: sudo rm -rf /whateverthetimemachineis does not work Disabling the ACL permissions first with sudo fsaclctl -p /whatever -d does not work, sudo: fsaclctl: command not found Use the delete all backup feature in Time Machine... this is slow as hell, would take days. Need a command line solution. No I don't want to reformat the drive, I have other content on it, and no don't say I should have separated on two partition or two drives, I did it this say since partitions cannot be dynamically changed, and two drives is annoying since, whats the point of having a big drive?... plus has no relation to the issue at hand. Already googlied for hours and read everything on Super User, nothing working. and all solutions are the first 4. Any clues?

• Using 4 monitors with 2 generic video cards... possible?

  I'm thinking of setting up 4 monitors in a grid, using two video cards, one card to feed each pair of monitors through the card's two DVI ports. The most important requirement for me is to have the grid of monitors act as one single huge screen. Is this scenario possible by using two generic cards like Radeon 4870s on a Windows 7 computer? (I've heard of Eyefinity, but 4870s don't have it) Another issue is that I only have one PCI-Express slot on my computer's motherboard, therefore I'll need to use one of the lesser PCI cards as the second video card. Will this pose problems?

• backing up ntfs disk using rsync on ubuntu

  For a long time I was using windows. I have a separate drive I use to keep copies of my media files, photos etc. on, which I periodically backup to an external drive. In Windows I used SyncToy to do this. After my Windows stopped booting, I decided to switch to Linux (Ubuntu 10.10). That seems to be going fine, but now I want to backup my drive to the external drive like before. Mostly the two drives will be already the same with maybe about 10GB of extra files added. So I try to use rsync to synchronise the two drives like this: rsync --dry-run -rvlt --modify-window=1 /media/Antonio1TB/Backup /media/FREECOM\ HDD/Backup The problem is the dry run indicates that every file on the drive will be copied. Not just the files I have recently added. What is the correct command to synch two NTFS drives under Ubuntu so that files that already exist don't get copied again? Thanks.

• Second monitor not detected

  Hi I have two VGA monitors, my GPU is ATI PowerColor 6850 which has two DVI slots, I use adapters for both VGA monitors. If I connect any the two monitors in the first slot it will work right away (along the plugin confirmation sound). And if I connect any of both monitors to the second slot I won't get anything, nor a signal or confirmation sound. I also tried auto detecting via Catalyst Control Center and Windows Desktop Resolution. I have the latest drivers installed. EDIT: I found this on the Spec Description: Display Connectors DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D And in NewEgg: 2 x DVI (1 Single Link, 1 Dual Link) Could this have anything to do with my issue?

• Will Windows Barf on Constant Video Driver Overwrite?

  So, I've got a Win7 64-bit gaming PC with GTX 260's. Recently, StarCraft 2 had an issue with flickering, which NVidia fixed with a new set of drivers. However, these new drivers induce unplayable graphical errors with Neverwinter Nights 2, something me and my friends still play from time to time. I am seeking advice on the "best" way to rectify this situation, to be able to switch between two driver releases, without compromising the stability of my system (if Windows stability isn't an oxymoron). I'm wondering if Windows 7 is structured in such a way that I can constantly reinstall these two sets of drivers back and forth overtop each other, possibly six or eight times a day, without very quickly driving myself to reformat to maintain that "just like new" performance. I'm loathe to have to reformat the drive and maintain two copies of the operating system, but I'll do it if I have to.

  I have some questions about raid card. Use LSI MegaRAID® SAS 9260-8i raid card as a example. There is only two connection ports on the raid card, and they provide two cables that can connect 8 SAS/SATA storages. The document say it can connect "Maximum 32 drives per controller", I want to know how can I connect more than 8 hard disks with this card. Is that they say "Eight internal SATA+SAS ports" means they provide two cables which can connect 8 hard drives, but you can use other way to connect Maximum 32 drives? The other question. I see host bus adapter has raid integrated , so what is the difference between host bus adapter and raid card. Are they the same? I also know is SAS/SATA Expander's function only to connect more hard drives? Thanks in advance.

• How much power supply do I need for my server, and could a shortage be causing my odd crashing?

  I have 5 servers, all with similar hardware (i7, four 2tb 7200rpm drives, two 4tb 5400rpm drives, 430 watt power supply), and lately the machines have been freezing up. This has gotten worse in the last day or so, and I can't pinpoint any explanation. One recent change was adding the two 4tb hard drives. The crashes happen most often while running a large Hadoop job, so I was originally thinking the load was causing some issues, but last night one server just froze without any heavy load on the box (or so I think), other than HDFS (Hadoop's distributed file system) was probably rebalancing itself since two of the five nodes were offline. If I plugin a monitor and keyboard to one of these frozen machines, I can't get any response or feedback on the screen. Any ideas on possible points of failure and/or different logs I can look at to investigate? • Joining H264 *without* re-encoding

  I have two halves of a single show in two .MP4 files, encoded in H264. I would like to join them without re-encoding. Is this possible? I managed to create a joined video as a Quicktime file (.mov) using Quicktime Pro, but then Quicktime Pro will not convert it back to .MP4 without re-encoding. This may be because looking inside the .mov file, the two H264 videos are in there still separated as individual "objects". I am also struggling with MPEG StreamClip without reaching a real solution. But I may have missed something. Note that I do not have the same issue with MPEG2 files. I can export them to a .MPEG container or a .TS file for example, and then I can join them without re-encoding using MPEG Streamclip. Any suggestion welcome, preferably using Mac software.

  I only want to accpet email from two addresses, the rest I want to delete immediately, unseen. I know how to make fileers and I can whitelist those two addresses. If I make 3 filter, in this order; 1) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 2) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 3) from *@*.* delete immediately, never move to trash can I be guaranteed that that will do what I want? For instance, can I be sure that the filters are executed in that order? I dont want to lose amy mail from those two adresses.

  I'm using GNU Freetalk along with expect in order to send notifications to my phone – Freetalk has a readline interface, and I use expect to make a series of non interactive scripts that send information to another Jabber account. I'd like to have these scripts end freetalk 'properly' – that is to say user@domainname message one user@domainname message two /quit which would print out message one message two then quit. However Freetalk 'helpfully' adds user@domainame automatically so I get message one message two /quit as the output. The expect script still ends, but there's a delay. How would I stop Freetalk from adding in the 'buddy' address automatically?

  I see those two options constantly suggested on the web when someone describes how to mount a tmpfs or ramfs. Often also with noexec but I'm specifically interested in nodev and nosuid. I basically hate just blindly repeating what somebody suggested, without real understanding. And since I only see copy/paste instructions on the net regarding this, I ask here. This is from documentation: nodev - Don't interpret block special devices on the filesystem. nosuid - Block the operation of suid, and sgid bits. But I would like a practical explanation what could happen if I leave those two out. Let's say that I have configured tmpfs or ramfs(without these two mentioned options set) that is accessible(read+write) by a specific (non-root)user on the system. What can that user do to harm the system? Excluding the case of consuming all available system memory in case of ramfs

• Windows 7: from Geforce 8800 to three monitors?

  I've got a GeForce 8800 that I've quite happy with. It drives my two 23" widescreen displays well. Now I've got a 19" standard display that I want to stick between the two widescreens. My second PCIe 16x slot is unused (as is the PCI slot below that), and I want to add a card to my Win7 x64 system. This 19" display won't be used for gaming, so I don't need anything fancy. Here are two cards I was considering, but I'm wondering if they're bad choices for some reason? If they're both fine choices, which is better and why? Again, I'm needing to power only the 19" standard display with this card, and it won't play games. I just need 1280x1024 in Win7 x64. • How can I fix a date that changes by 4 years and 1 day when pasted between Excel workbooks

  In Excel dates are represented internally by a floating point number where the integer part is the number of days since "some date" and the fractional part is how far into that day (hence the time). You can see this if you change the format of a date - like 4/10/2009 to a number 39905. But when pasting a date between two different workbooks the date shifts by 4 years and one day!!! In other words "some date" is different between the two workbooks. In one workbook the number 0.0 represents 1/0/1900 and in the other 0.0 represents 1/1/1904. Where is this set and is it controllable? Or does this represent a corrupted file? These workbooks where originally from Excel 2000 but have been worked on now in Excel 2007 and Excel 2003. I can demonstrate the problem between the two workbook files in both 2003 and 2010. The exact history of when they were created or what versions of Excel have been used on each is unknown.

Without overwriting but to create a copy if two files have the same name, but different sizes Without duplicating if two files have the same name and size. To work recursively So far I have found the following command which might work $ rsync -varE --progress ~/folder /volumes/server/folder But I'm not entirely sure what the -E flag does.   Are there any good (Linux) tools for diffing two XML files? Ideally, I would like to be able configure it to some things strict, or loosen some things, like whitespace, or attribute order. I'll often care that the files are functionally the same, but diff by itself, would be annoying to use, especially if the XML file doesn't have a lot of linebreaks.   I have a table with a FILESTREAM column, and it has two unique constraints specified for the same FILESTREAM column, ie: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableName] ADD CONSTRAINT [UQ_TableName_33C4988760FC61CA] UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED ([GUID_Column]); GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableName] ADD CONSTRAINT [UQ_TableName_33C49887145C0A3F] UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED ([GUID_Column]); GO I'd like to drop one of the unique constraints, as they are duplicates. However, when I try and drop one of the two duplicate constraints, I receive the following error. "A table with FILESTREAM column(s) must have a non-NULL unique ROWGUID column." Anyone know how to remove one of the two constraints?

• Partition falsly recognized as RAW

  On my 2 TB data disk I have two primary partitions, one of 1.6 TB for data storage in Linux (ext3) and one of 300 GB for some additional data storage for Windows. I run a dual-boot Windows 7/Ubuntu 12.04 install. The issue I have that if I start my computer into Windows 7, bot the partitions on my 2TB data drive are not recognized. In stead, Windows 7 sees one 1TB partition with type RAW. However, if I reboot to Linux, and then back to Windows 7, the partitions are correctly recognized. The following two screenshots illustrate my situation. Before I reboot to linux: and after the reboot: I have two questions: What could cause this behavior? How can I solve this issue.

• Writing Macros to find a specific cell and paste the value from a control cell into it

  I am having some issues writing a Macro to do the following. I have a very long list of rooms with two columns one containing the room number i.e. B-CL102 and the other containing a varying integer.I am looking to create a new column that will contain another different integer for each of the rooms. Is there any way to write a Macro so that I can use two control cells at the top of the sheet, type the room number into one and the integer matching that room into another, then run the Macro and it will automatically populate the correct cell. Then I can change the two values in the control cells and run the Macro again and so on. Thanks for your help, I have a very minimal amount of experience with Macros essentially just the basics. • Squid3 not working. Access denied

  I installed SQUID3 on a Linux machine with two ethernet interfaces (eth0 and eth1). I used the default settings in the squid.conf file and uncommented the two lines acl localnet src 192.168.0.0/16 and http_access allow localnet. eth0 is connected to a router, which provides Internet access. It is assigned an IP 192.168.1.2 by the router. I manually configured eth1 to have an IP address 192.168.5.1. It is connected to a switch. Systems having IP addresses 192.168.5.x are connected to this switch. I ran these two commands for NAT: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.5.1:3128 iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-ports 3128 But when I try to access internet from a system having IP 192.168.5.2 through the proxy I get an error that says "Access denied". What is wrong with my configuration?

• DNS record reappears after having been deleted

  I've got a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 acting as a domain controller for a small network. It provides DHCP and DNS among a few other services. It's only got a single NIC, but it's configured with two IP addresses. I want it's name to resolve to one of the two IP addresses assigned to its NIC. I've unchecked "Register this connection's addresses in DNS" under the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings". Currently we've got two distinct DNS Host (A) records for this domain controller: dc-001 - 10.0.0.1 dc-001 - 10.0.100.1 I've deleted the first entry but it continues to reappear in my dnsmgmt snap-in. Unfortunately I'm not a Microsoft systems administrator by trade. Does anyone familiar with Microsoft server environments know why a deleted Host (A) record would reappear? Is there another check-box I need to toggle? Thanks in advance to all of you Microsoft experts out there.

• Is it possible to cause artificial network packet loss or latency?

  I'm trying to reproduce some issues on a deployed application where the MSSQL server and client are running in two separate machines. I think there may be network issues between the two machines, so I'd like to try and reproduce these conditions on two Hyper-V virtual machines (on the same virtual server). Of course, the network for these virtual machines is "local" so it's actually far from the conditions in a live environment. Is there a program I can run on either virtual machine which will degrade the network performance? Or maybe any other work arounds? For example, one way to reproduce the conditions may be to run the VMs on separate Hyper-V servers in geographically dispersed locations (so the SQL traffic goes over VPN or something) -- but this is a little long winded I think. There must be a simpler way.

  I have two gmail accounts. If I follow the following steps then Safari will not let me log in to any other gmail account Go the gmail, log in as user1 Enable Private browsing Go to one website Disable Private browsing Go to gmail and logout. At this point gmail will not let me switch to user2. I have to quit the whole browser before I get that option. Is there a way to fix this? I am not trying to open two gmail accounts at the same time. Just one after the other. As long as I do not enter Private Browsing mode between the two logins I can switch between account1 and account2. Also, I am not changing browser to Firefox

• DIrect videos and slideshows fullscreen from another display

  I have 3 displays: 1 control display I can see 2 40" Full HD displays I can't see my need is to play videos and presentations fullscreen on the two 40" screens while being able to control them from the control display. So far I am able to achieve this with a cumbersome set of keyboard shortcuts like: open VLC on control display send to left display with Win + Shift + Left go fullscreen with f and more combinations to restore, get VLC on control display etc. This is really error prone and not professional. Also I wish I have a media player and a slideshow player that can: send the same video / slideshow to the two 40" displays at the same time send two different videos / slideshows, one each 40" display having all controls on the central display, the only one I can see. Any advice welcome, thank you for your support.
