Intelligent web features, algorithms (people you may follow, similar to you ...)

I have 3 main questions about the algorithms in intelligent web (web 2.0) Here the book I'm reading http://www.amazon.com/Algorithms-Intelligent-Web-Haralambos-Marmanis/dp/1933988665 and I want to learn the algorithms in deeper 1. People You may follow (Twitter) How can one determine the nearest result to my requests ? Data mining? which algorithms? 2. How you’re connected feature (Linkedin) Simply algorithm works like that. It draws the path between two nodes let say between Me and the other person is C. Me - A, B - A connections - C . It is not any brute force algorithms or any other like graph algorithms :) 3. Similar to you (Twitter, Facebook) This algorithms is similar to 1. Does it simply work the max(count) friend in common (facebook) or the max(count) follower in Twitter? or any other algorithms they implement? I think the second part is true because running the loop dict{count, person} for person in contacts: dict.add(count(common(person))) return dict(max) is a silly act in every refreshing page. 4. Why won't my image display??

HTML Doctype Setting / IE Quirks Mode

I'm working within the parameters of an un-reachable developer, whom has created an html generation system for our products.. Whenever a new page is generated he places:   resulting in my code looking like:   <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html lang="en" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en"> I don't believe IE read's this doctype at all, as when looking at the developer screen, it renders in Quirks mode... is there any other way to force IE out of this horrible Quirks mode? I've been trying to reach the developer but he has been rather un-available.. Thank you in advance for any help you might have to offer.

Problem with IE and Jquery qTip plugin

I am having problems with the Jquery qtip plugin. It works fine in Firefox (see here http://movieo.no-ip.org/ hover over the first image). But doesn't work in IE. overflow-y hides page contents in a webkit browsers (Chrome and Safari)

Hi, I am currently making our website to be supported by all major browsers and I've met a very strange problem - oveflow-y attribute caused my data to be hidden. Below I've got an oversimplified code sample that works in IE and Firfox, but which doesn't work in Safari and Chrome. implementing Ws-security within WCF proxy

Hi, I have imported an axis based wsdl into a VS 2008 project as a service reference. I need to be able to pass security details such as username/password and nonce values to call the axis based service. Learning Hibernate: too many connections

I'm trying to learn Hibernate and I wrote the simplest Person Entity and I was trying to insert 2000 of them. I know I'm using deprecated methods, I will try to figure out what are the new ones later. First, here is the class Person: @Entity public class Person { private int id; private String name; @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.TABLE, generator = "person") @TableGenerator(name = "person", table = "sequences", allocationSize = 1) public int getId() { return id; } public void setId(int id) { this.id = id; } public String getName() { return name; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } } Then I wrote a small App class that insert 2000 entities with a loop: public class App { private static AnnotationConfiguration config; public static void insertPerson() { SessionFactory factory = config.buildSessionFactory(); Session session = factory.getCurrentSession(); session.beginTransaction(); Person aPerson = new Person(); aPerson.setName("John"); session.save(aPerson); session.getTransaction().commit(); } public static void main(String[] args) { config = new AnnotationConfiguration(); config.addAnnotatedClass(Person.class); config.configure("hibernate.cfg.xml"); //is the default already new SchemaExport(config).create(true, true); //print and execute for (int i = 0; i < 2000; i++) { insertPerson(); } } } What I get after a while is: Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.exception.JDBCConnectionException: Cannot open connection Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Too many connections Now I know that probably if I put the transaction outside the loop it would work, but mine was a test to see what happens when executing multiple transactions. And since there is only one open at each time, it should work. I tried to add session.close() after the commit, but I got Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.SessionException: Session was already closed So how to solve the problem?

IE6 PNG-transparency CSS hack not working

I looked around and decided to use a CSS approach rather than rely on JS... I figure the kind of corporate users stuck with IE6 might also have JS disabled by IT departments. I commented out all the rest of the page so it is literally that one and still no luck. I removed the default.css stylesheet and still no difference.

Why does my simple strict XHTML file give errors when I include jquery?

Accessing an iFrame's dom from a Firefox Extension

Hi all, I've spent a long time trying different things to get this to work but nothing does and documentation is not helping much. I'm trying to populate a form inside an iframe that I dynamically inject into a page. To inject that iframe I do: myObject.iframe = document.createElement("iframe"); myObject.iframe.setAttribute("src", data.url); myObject.iframe.setAttribute("id","extension-iframe"); myObject.window.document.getElementById('publisher').appendChild(myObject.iframe); myObject.iframe.addEventListener("load", function(){ myObject.populate(data); }, false); which works fine and DOES trigger the populate() method. My problem is getting the document or window objects for that iframe. I've tried all of the following: myObject.iframe.window myObject.iframe.document myObject.iframe.content but these are all undefined. I also tried passing the event object to that iframe's load event listener and then doing: event.originalTarget But that didn't work either. Problem Parsing JSON Result with jQuery

I am attempting to parse JSON using jQuery and I'm running into issues. In the code below, I'm using a static file, but I've also tested using an actual URL. I have successfully validated my JSON at JSONLint, so I've run out of ideas as to what I might be doing wrong. Any thoughts?

Linking the Linker script file to source code

Hello , I am new to GNU compiler. I have a C source code file which contains some structures and variables in which I need to place certain variables at a particular locations. So, I have written a linker script file and used the __ attribute__("SECTION") at variable declaration, in C source code. I am using a GNU compiler (cygwin) to compile the source code and creating a .hex file using -objcopy option, but I am not getting how to link my linker script file at compilation to relocate the variables accordingly. I am attaching the linker script file and the C source file for the reference. JQuery Autocomplete plugin not working with JQuery 1.4.1

I've been using the JQuery Autocomplete plugin with JQuery version 1.3.2, and it has been working great. I recently updated JQuery in my project to version 1.4.2, and the Autocomplete plugin is now broken. The JQuery code to add items to a textbox on my web page doesn't seem to be getting called at all. Does anyone know if the JQuery Autocomplete plugin is incompatible with JQuery version 1.4.2, and if there is a fix for this problem? Wordpress.. Is it a CMS?

I recently was contacted by a client who simply wanted to increase their organic rankings in Google. My approach was to do the following: A) Take them off of their overpriced host and move them to a nicer, cheaper, more feature-rich hosting solution which included a simple Wordpress install. B) Apply a theme to WordPress which followed the look and feel of their existing website. C) Train my client on how to login to their copy of Wordpress and create/manage pages/posts. This took me very little time.. Most of the work in converting asp forms into php and tweaking a theme to fit their design. Now my client is able to create/manage as many pages or posts as they desire. I believe, for this purpose, Worpress was the easiest solution. Would you categorize Wordpress as a CMS? The project is not configured for Facelets yet in RAD 8.0

I am trying to create JSF 2 pages. When I create pages using facelets template I get message on top that "The project is not configured for Facelets yet. You need to add a Facelets runtime to the project's classpath". I created file called Test1.xhtml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11 /DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:ui="http://java.sun.com /jsf/facelets" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com /jsf/html"> <h:head> <title>Test1</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="application/xhtml+xml; charset=UTF-8" /> <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Rational® Application Developer for WebSphere® Software" /> </h:head> <h:body> Test </h:body> </html> When I run this I see same content of file in explorer, instead of Test. Also Page code is not created for it.

Problem running standalone Glassfish v3 client as Eclipse plugin

Hello, I'm developing a standalone client that invokes some EJB methods on Glassfish v3. This works well until I'm integrating the client into an Eclipse plugin for running in our RCP application. In this setting there seems to be a classloader problem on initializing the naming context and I get the exception listed below. (The client has gf-client.jar and all its dependencies on its classpath.) Prompt User before browser close?

We have an administrative portal that our teachers constantly forget to download their latest PDF instructions before logging out and/or closing the browser window. I have looked around but can't find what I'm looking for. I want to accomplish the following goals: Goal 1 Before a user can close the browser window, they are prompted "Did you remember to download your form?" with two options, yes/no. If yes, close, if no, return to page. Goal 2 Before a user can click the 'logout' button, they are prompted with the same as above. This is especially difficult since the GMTransport is proprietary Google class and no sources are available, which would make it a bit easier to debug. Anyone have any ideas what to try next? Installing ImageMagick extension with php/windows

Running PHP Version 5.2.5 on Windows Server 2003 with IIS. Have virtually an identical server where we were able to install ImageMagick with no issues. It's running exactly the same version of php. Used the following steps to install, but it just won't seem to work on this server. ImageMagick itself is installed but php won't load the extension. We've spent hours trying to get the extension installed. It just won't show up in phpinfo(). INSTALL STEPS TAKEN* To install IMagick on windows xp (php 5.2.x) 1.) download and install ImageMagick-6.5.8-7 Q16-windows-dll.exe http://www.imagemagick.org/download/binaries/ ImageMagick-6.5.8-7-Q16-windows-dll.exe 2.) download php_imagick_dyn-Q16.dll from: http://valokuva.org/outside-blog-content/ imagick-windows-builds/080709/ copy dll to [PHP]/extension dir and rename it to php_imagick.dll 3.) You have to edit your php.ini file and add new extension "extension=php_imagick.dll" 4.) Save ini file and restart apache server. (If necessary, restart your windows) 5.) phpinfo() should show imagick enabled.

So, what is the problem? Thank advance.
