• Shuttle control in wxPython

  Hi, I'm trying to implement a shuttle control in wxPython but there doesn't seem to be one. I've decided to use two listbox controls. The shuttle control looks like this: I've got two listboxes — one's populated, one's not. Could someone show me how to add a selected item to the second list box when it is double clicked? It should be removed from the first. When it is double clicked in the second, it should be added to the first and removed from the second. The shuttle control implements these by default but it's a pity it isn't there. Thank you.

• How do I set a SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services Template to a Default Font?

  I'm creating a new template to create reports from at a later date. I know how to create one, and I know where to save it. However, the problem is this. Everything that is created on the report uses the default font of Arial with a size of 10pt. I need to set mine to default to Tahoma 11pt. I can create a mock title, mock tables, etc and save those to Tahoma 11pt, but any new controls that are used on any version of this report will default back to Arial 10pt. How do I fix this?

• Executing a jquery effect on demand. Is it possible?

  I was looking the Highlight effect of Jquery's. That effect is really the one i would like to add in my webpage. By looking at the the source code, i noticed that the effect will be reproduced on user's click of the div. $("div").click(function () { $(this).effect("highlight", {}, 3000); }); In my webpage i have an ImageButton <asp:ImageButton ID="btnFavorite" runat="server" ImageUrl="~/Images/Favorite.png"/> I would love to perform the highlight effect to the div, when the user clicks on the image button. Is it possible? UPDATE: If it is possible, could i use something like "OnClientClick=" of the ImageButton, since the imagebutton controls are added dynamically to the webpage?

• How to use a 3rd party control inside the viewmodel?

  I have a 3rd party control which among other things performs loading of some data. I want my viewmodel to keep track of this load operation and adjust its own state accordingly. If it were up to me, I'd do the data loading far away from the view, but it is not. So, I seem to be in the situation where my viewmodel depends on my view. How do I best handle this? I feel rather dirty making the view publish events to the viewmodel but I don't see any other reasonable way to get this info into the viewmodel. A similar situation might crop up with standard controls, too - imagine if your viewmodel depends on the events coming from a MediaElement - how do you properly model this? Do you put the MediaElement into the viewmodel? That doesn't sound right. If publishing the events to the viewmodel is indeed the most reasonable way, is there some common pattern used for this? How do you do it?

• How to By Pass Request Validation

  Hi, I have a GridView and I need update some data inserting HTML CODE; I would need this data been stored encoded and decoded on request. I cannot in any way disable globally "Request Validation" and not even at Page Level, so I would need a solution to disable "Request Validation" at Control Level. At the moment I am using a script which should Html.Encode every value being update, butt seems that "Request Validation" start its job before event RowUpdating, so I get the Error "Page A potentially dangerous Request.Form ... ". Any idea how to solve it? • Why should I use an N-Tier Approach When using an SqlDatasource is ALOT EASIER ?

  When it comes to web development I have always tried to work SMART not HARD. So for along time My Aproach to interacting with databases in my AspNet projects has been this : 1) Create my stored procedures 2) Drag an SQLDatasource control on my aspx page 3) Bind a DataList Control to my SQLDatasource 4) Insert, Update & Delete by using my Datalist or programmatically using built in SQLDatasource methods e.g MySqlDataSource.InsertParameters["author"].DefaultValue = TextBox1.Text; MySqlDataSource.Insert(); Recently however I got a relatively easy web project. So I decided to employ a 3-tier Model...But I got exhausted halfway and just didnt seem worth it ! It seemed like I was working too HARD for a project that could have been easily accomplished by a couple of SqlDataSource Controls. So Why Is the N-Tier Model better than my Approach? Has it anything to do with performance? What are the advantages of the ObjectDataSource control over the SqlDataSource Control?

• Loading a datagrid with large amounts of data in silverlight?

  Hi I am breaking up my project in small sections and one of the sections involves loading a grid with possibily lots of records (could be up to 1000s of records in the database). Ideally I would like some sort of mechanism where as the users scrolls the grid, more data is retrieved. I have read that certain controls (datapager with RIA) do this but I would like to know how I could implement this myself or do something similiar? I was thinking about first loading 50 records at a time and when the user gets to scroll near the 50th record, then get another 50 as a start and so on. Not sure how I do this but this does not feel right or whether I should load ids of records in the grid and then get each row to load itself via an async thread but then I am hitting my database for each record? How should the expression look like if I want to localise it? I can make the property accessible as an attribute of the control's tag, but I prefer the mark-up above, it looks more elegant and clean. • How to let an average user design a boolean expression graphically

  In our application there's a list of customers, and a list of keywords (among other things). Each customer can have a number of keywords, but it's not mandatory. So for instance, one customer can have the keywords "retail" and "chain", one can have only "contractor" and a third can have none at all. I want to let the user make a selection of customers based on these keywords, but not having to write (retail AND chain) or contractor and not wholesale I would like to make it as user-friendly as possible, and ideally with only "simple" controls, like checkboxes, comboboxes etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to design this? Or maybe some examples of applications where there are similar functionality?

• User control blank on form in VS 2008

  I've created a user control that contains a table layout control with various other standard controls like buttons and labels. Yet when I add the user control to one of my forms the control is blank. I've tried building the solution and a see the user-control flicker as if it's being updated, but it remains blank. Also if I actually run the program the usercontrol can not be see on the form. I've used usercontrols like this in the past. Is there something I'm missing?

  I am building an MVVM Panorama Windows Phone 7 application. At some point of Panorama Item's layout I get a bottom margin of a panorama header box, that moves my content too far down. Is there a way I can set a bottom margin of a ContentPresenter, that is generated to hold the controls, defined in the Panorama.HeaderTemplate? Here is my layout list in Silverlight Spy: In case the screen shot is not readable, here is a large version: http://bit.ly/rBvNp8 Something generates a 26 points bottom margin for a header box (probably the control's code, that handles a layout). How can I control this value? I need it to be set to 0.

• Can you hide tables from a MySQL user in phpMyAdmin?

  I have a MySQL user added to a database that I would like to prevent from viewing certain tables. I can limit their privileges through MySQL by preventing them from running statements like DROP or ALTER. But is it possible to prevent them from viewing certain tables in phpMyAdmin? If there isn't a MySQL privilege that controls this (I wouldn't imagine there would be), is there a configuration in phpMyAdmin that allows this? I understand one workaround here is to move the tables to a new database that they're not added to. This isn't an option for my application.

  Hi all Just beginning my journey in ASP.Net MVC and I have a query about something before I dig myself in too deep. I have a table, which is paged, and I have 2 controls above the table: Dropdown that defines order of the results and apply button next to it Textbox that defines a filter and apply button next to it What I need to achieve is that if the user changes the order or adds a filter I fire of an AJAX call to my action like such: /Membership/Users?sort=value&filter=value&page=pagenumber. So my controller action is: // GET Membership/Users?sort=&filter=&page= public ActionResult Users(string sort, string filter, string page) So I have 3 questions: Is this the correct approach? What would be the best way to ensure that the query string is maintained, bearing in mind that the action will nearly always be called by Jquery/Ajax functions? If I wanted to link directly to this action passing the arguments would I need to hard-code the querystring? Thanks

I have two comboboxes: Product Type Sub Cathegory The user need to select the Product type, and based on his selection, the second combobox must load the sub cathegories. Binding the first combobox is a piece of cake: <ComboBox x:Name="cmbProductType" Margin="11,2,8,5" MaxDropDownHeight="100" Grid.Column="1 /> cmbProductType.ItemsSource = objFactory.ProductTypes; objFactory.Load(objFactory.GetProductTypesQuery()); My issue is trying to load the second combobox based on the first seleccion.   I have a google maps app which plots markers as it loads. One of the new requirment is to to add a Polygon overlay encompassing a selection of markers by the user. I was able to achieve that using the Geometry Controls of the GMaps Utility Library Now, the next step is to form a group of the selected markers for which I would need to determine if the lat lngs of the markers falls within the lat lngs of the polygon? Is there a way to determine the lat lngs of a polygon and compute if the marker's lat lng is within its boundaries?

• Is is possible to make a shaped, alpha-blended dialog?

  I'm making a non-rectangular dialog, modelled over an image from Photoshop (the image is the background of the dialog, and the user will see trough the transparent part of the image). I'ts like a dashboard-style window for a media-app with a few custom-drawn controls. Most of the background-image is either opaque or 100% transparent - but in between there is a thin area of partially transparent pixels, ment to blend the image smootly into the background. This works great for web-graphics, but I have not found a way to make this work for Windows windows. I'm using the Windows Template Library (WTL), msvc 2008 - and the app must run on Windows XP as well as Vista and Windows 7. Currently, I'm simply using the opaque part of the background-image to create a GDI clipping-region, but this gives pretty rough edges. Does anyone know about any API functions to accomplish this (part of WTL, or reachable from WTL)?

• Can a flex app (or a portion of a flex app) be made transparent to mouse clicks?

  I need to superimpose my Flex app above a plain HTML control on a web page, and be able to click through the Flex app to interact with the HTML control. Is there any way to do this? No permutation of mouseEnabled="false" or mouseChildren="false" seems to have the desired effect. Context: trying to integrate Google Earth API (JavaScript/HTML) with my flex app. I am leaving a portion of the flex app transparent and empty, and positioning the Google Earth widget just below that point in the z-index. Google Earth has to be behind flex, because there are some Flex controls periodically displayed in that space.

• Better Alternative to Telerik Draggable Panel ?

  When putting a video in a Telerik Draggable Panel, when dragging the panel, on Firefox the video restart all over again because DOM is reconstructed. They don't seem to have an answer to this. Also we can't seem to be able to control the z-index as it doesn't take into account: when moving the panel over other telerik controls, the video slips under. So any other draggable panel that wouldn't have these annoyances ? Telerik doesn't seem to give any answer so we're afraid we're stuck and we cannot afford to wait longer. Currently think about using Yahoo UI.

• Tab Page launching a timer

  I have a project that uses a timer to update the position of motors. I am adding 3 more motors and would like to control each of them the same way as the first. I tried moving my controls to a Tab Control but my update timers are not triggering. I made the UpdateTimer.SynchronizingObject = TheMainForm; Because if I tried to make it the Tab Page I got an error. I am very new to threaded projects. What am I doing wrong. Will post more code if its needed.
