  • Verification GetHashCode and Equals

    - by nettguy
    Does the following code show the correct implementation of overriding GetHashCode ? public class Person { public string fName{get;set;} public string lName { get; set; } public int age { get; set; } public override bool Equals(object obj) { Person p = obj as Person; if (p == null) return false; return ( p.GetType()==this.GetType() && p.fName==this.fName &&p.lName==this.lName && p.age==this.age ); } //I took the below code from Marc Gravell's post,I am not sure whether i have implemented it properly public override int GetHashCode() { unchecked { int hash = 13; hash = (hash * 7) + fName.GetHashCode(); hash = (hash * 7) + lName.GetHashCode(); hash = (hash * 7) + age.GetHashCode(); return hash; } } }

  • ASP.net dealing issues with production system

    - by nettguy
    First time i am going to work on (maintenance project) application that is already in production.The application was developed in ASP.net 3.5/C# 3.0(web forms) with jQuery,Ajax,Sql server 2005 and microsoft enterprise library 4.0.,WCF services. Questions (bear with me if my question is wrong) 1) Is it possible to use Visual Studio (2008 with SP1) to debug the remote application (i.e already in production)?.What are the tools do i need to use in order to keep track the things in case something went wrong? 2) Simply looking into Log file ,will solve the issues? 3) After having done with enhancements,is it possible to directly deploy the DLLs into production server.Won't it affect the running application? Please guide me what are the procedures i need to follow.Client is ready to provide any tools for my support.(What are the area do i need to aware to handle production system) Thanks in advance.

  • C# Chain-of-responsibility with delegates

    - by nettguy
    For my understanding purpose i have implemented Chain-Of-Responsibility pattern. //Abstract Base Type public abstract class CustomerServiceDesk { protected CustomerServiceDesk _nextHandler; public abstract void ServeCustomers(Customer _customer); public void SetupHadler(CustomerServiceDesk _nextHandler) { this._nextHandler = _nextHandler; } } public class FrontLineServiceDesk:CustomerServiceDesk { public override void ServeCustomers(Customer _customer) { if (_customer.ComplaintType == ComplaintType.General) { Console.WriteLine(_customer.Name + " Complaints are registered ; will be served soon by FrontLine Help Desk.."); } else { Console.WriteLine(_customer.Name + " is redirected to Critical Help Desk"); _nextHandler.ServeCustomers(_customer); } } } public class CriticalIssueServiceDesk:CustomerServiceDesk { public override void ServeCustomers(Customer _customer) { if (_customer.ComplaintType == ComplaintType.Critical) { Console.WriteLine(_customer.Name + "Complaints are registered ; will be served soon by Critical Help Desk"); } else if (_customer.ComplaintType == ComplaintType.Legal) { Console.WriteLine(_customer.Name + "is redirected to Legal Help Desk"); _nextHandler.ServeCustomers(_customer); } } } public class LegalissueServiceDesk :CustomerServiceDesk { public override void ServeCustomers(Customer _customer) { if (_customer.ComplaintType == ComplaintType.Legal) { Console.WriteLine(_customer.Name + "Complaints are registered ; will be served soon by legal help desk"); } } } public class Customer { public string Name { get; set; } public ComplaintType ComplaintType { get; set; } } public enum ComplaintType { General, Critical, Legal } void Main() { CustomerServiceDesk _frontLineDesk = new FrontLineServiceDesk(); CustomerServiceDesk _criticalSupportDesk = new CriticalIssueServiceDesk(); CustomerServiceDesk _legalSupportDesk = new LegalissueServiceDesk(); _frontLineDesk.SetupHadler(_criticalSupportDesk); _criticalSupportDesk.SetupHadler(_legalSupportDesk); Customer _customer1 = new Customer(); _customer1.Name = "Microsoft"; _customer1.ComplaintType = ComplaintType.General; Customer _customer2 = new Customer(); _customer2.Name = "SunSystems"; _customer2.ComplaintType = ComplaintType.Critical; Customer _customer3 = new Customer(); _customer3.Name = "HP"; _customer3.ComplaintType = ComplaintType.Legal; _frontLineDesk.ServeCustomers(_customer1); _frontLineDesk.ServeCustomers(_customer2); _frontLineDesk.ServeCustomers(_customer3); } Question Without breaking the chain-of-responsibility ,how can i apply delegates and events to rewrite the code?

  • C# -Closure -Clarification

    - by nettguy
    I am learning C#.Can I mean closure as a construct that can adopt the changes in the environment in which it is defined. Example : List<Person> gurus = new List<Person>() { new Person{id=1,Name="Jon Skeet"}, new Person{id=2,Name="Marc Gravell"}, new Person{id=3,Name="Lasse"} }; void FindPersonByID(int id) { gurus.FindAll(delegate(Person x) { return x.id == id; }); } The variable id is declared in the scope of FindPersonByID() but t we still can access the local variable id inside the anonymous function (i.e) delegate(Person x) { return x.id == id; } (1) Is my understanding of closure is correct ? (2) What are the aditional advantages can we get from closures?

  • Ugly thing and advantage of anonymos method -C#

    - by nettguy
    I was asked to explain the ugly thing and advantages of anonymous method. I explained possibly Ugly thing anonymous methods turning quickly into spaghetti code. Advantages We can produce thread safe code using anonymous method :Example static List<string> Names = new List<string>( new string[] { "Jon Skeet", "Marc Gravell", "David", "Bill Gates" }); static List<string> FindNamesStartingWith(string startingText) { return Names.FindAll( delegate(string name) { return name.StartsWith(startingText); }); } But really i did not know whether it is thread safe or not.I was asked to justify it. Can any one help me to understand (1) advantages of anonymous methods (2) Is the above code thread safe or not?

  • Factory Method Pattern clarification

    - by nettguy
    My understanding of Factory Method Pattern is (Correct me if i am wrong) Factory Method Pattern "Factory Method allow the client to delegates the product creation (Instance Creation) to the subclass". There are two situation in which we can go for creating Factory Method pattern. (i) When the client is restricted to the product (Instance) creation. (ii) There are multiple products available.But a decision to be made which product instance need to be returned. If you want to create Abstract Method pattern You need to have abstract product Concrete Product Factory Method to return the appropriate product. Example : public enum ORMChoice { L2SQL, EFM, LS, Sonic } //Abstract Product public interface IProduct { void ProductTaken(); } //Concrete Product public class LinqtoSql : IProduct { public void ProductTaken() { Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken:LinqtoSql"); } } //concrete product public class Subsonic : IProduct { public void ProductTaken() { Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken:Subsonic"); } } //concrete product public class EntityFramework : IProduct { public void ProductTaken() { Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken:EntityFramework"); } } //concrete product public class LightSpeed : IProduct { public void ProductTaken() { Console.WriteLine("OR Mapping Taken :LightSpeed"); } } public class Creator { //Factory Method public IProduct ReturnORTool(ORMChoice choice) { switch (choice) { case ORMChoice.EFM:return new EntityFramework(); break; case ORMChoice.L2SQL:return new LinqtoSql(); break; case ORMChoice.LS:return new LightSpeed(); break; case ORMChoice.Sonic:return new Subsonic(); break; default: return null; } } } **Client** Button_Click() { Creator c = new Creator(); IProduct p = c.ReturnORTool(ORMChoice.L2SQL); p.ProductTaken(); } Is my understanding of Factory Method is correct?

  • Expression Tree

    - by nettguy
    My understanding of expression tree is : Expression trees are in-memory representation of expression like arithmetic or boolean expression.The expressions are stored into the parsed tree.so we can easily transalate into any other language. Linq to SQL uses expression tree.Normally in LINQ to SQL query the compiler translates it into parsed expression trees.These are passed to Sql Server as T-SQL Statements.The Sql server executes the T-SQL query and sends down the result back.That is why when you execute LINQ to SQL you gets IQueryable<T> not IEnumetrable<T>.Because IQuerybale contains public IQueryable:IEnumerable { Type Element {get;} Expression Expression {get;} IQueryaleProvider Provider {get;} } Questions : Microsoft uses Expression trees to play with LINQ-to-Sql.What are the different ways can i use expression trees to boost my code. Apart from LINQ to SQL,Linq to amazon ,who used expression trees in their applications? Linq to Object return IEnumerable,Linq to SQL return IQueryable ,What does LINQ to XML return?

  • C# - Regular Expression validating Date and Hour

    - by nettguy
    I receive Date and time from CSV file The received Date format is YYYMMDD (string) (there is no ":" ,"-","/" to separate Year month and date). The received time format is HH:MM (24 Hour clock). I have to validate both so that (example) (i) 000011990 could be invalidated for date (ii) 77:90 could be invalidated for time. The question is , Regular expression is the right candidate for do so (or) is there any other way to achieve it?

  • Delegate Instantiation -Clarification

    - by nettguy
    When i have delegate like public delegate void PrintMe(); (1) PrintMe a = delegate() { MessageBox.Show("Hello"); }; a(); (2) PrintMe b = () => { MessageBox.Show("Hello"); }; b(); (3) PrintMe c = new PrintMe(HelpMe); c(); static void HelpMe() { MessageBox.Show("Help Me"); } for (1) and (2) I did not instatntiate the delegate it is directly pointing to anonymous methods.But as in the case of (3) I need to instatntiate the delegate and pass the static method.for case (3) can't i declare like PrintMe c= HelpMe(); ?.How does (1) and (2) work?

  • Processing CSV File

    - by nettguy
    I am using Sebastien LorionReference CSV reader to process my CSV file in C# 3.0. Say example id|name|dob (Header) 1|sss|19700101 (data) 2|xx|19700201 (data) My Business Object is class Employee { public string ID {get;set;} public string Name {get;set;} public string Dob {get;set;} } I read the CSV stream and stored it in List<string[]> List<string[]> col = new List<string[]>(); using (CsvReader csv = new CsvReader (new StreamReader("D:\\sample.txt"), true, '|')) { col = csv.ToList(); } How to iterate over the list to get each Employee like foreach (var q in col) { foreach (var r in q) { Employee emp=new Employee(); emp.ID =r[0]; emp.Name=r[1]; emp.Dob=r[2]; } } If i call r[0],r[1],r[2] i am getting "index out of range exception".How the process the list to avoid the error?
