• 750Gig Hard Drive shows full with only 315Gigs used

  I have a Win7 laptop with a 750Gig C: drive. It came partitioned with 714Gig usable from manufacturer. I installed programs, music files, etc up to 285 gigs. As of a few weeks ago it showed 285 Gigs. Two weeks of house guests later and it shows HD is full. I deleted some files but it still shows 652 Gigs on this drive while there are only 285 Gigs on drive. Relevant details: I am Administrator on laptop and have fair knowledge of what I am doing. I did not restore from backup, restore from mirror, upgrade HD's or anything else that would have touched the partition structure. Just daily use as imaging machine and web. I have checked partitions under disk administrator - no change, still partitioned with 714Gigs usable. Have looked through computer C drive by hand showing Hidden files and folders - no change. I have used JDisk Report to double check - it shows I have only 285 Gigs on C drive. I triple checked with TreeSize run as Administrator and it also shows 285 Gigs on C drive - yet Windows 7 still shows almost full. I used Windows 7 Utilities to Check for Disk Errors, and Defragged the drive. No errors shown and no change after Defrag.

• map linux drives to windwos 7 for media stream over internet

  I'm trying to map a linux network drive to my windows 7 laptop, however this laptop is not on LAN. At home, I simply use Samba, but this obviously won't work over the internet. I'm trying to avoid VPN, so if there are other solutions, I would like to know about them. The reason I ask is because my university does this as well. We can simply map folders to our computers without VPN connections. I'm not sure what they are running as servers. The main reason is because I want to be able to access my files stored on my home server wherever I go. They are located in the /home/ folder (videos, music and pictures folder). I'm trying to keep my websites and media separate from each other. I wouldn't mind accessing them from a web interface either, but I would like to keep the directory structure intact. I remember having an app like that come with winamp and running it on my windows pc (As the server). Unfortunately it doesn't work for linux. Any ideas on what I could use? Would XBMC be able to help me out with this? I did do some researching but I couldn't find any concrete answers

• How to improve Samba performance on VirtualBox machine?

  I am running a Windows 7 64bit host and Ubuntu 9.04 32bit guest inside of VirtualBox 4.0.0 on a laptop which has internet connectivity via Wifi. The main use is writing code for which I use Netbeans. My dev environment is hte virtual machine and I use Samba on the VM to share the code directory so that I can use Netbeans on the host as my IDE. Unfortunately Netbeans does a lot of disk access and due to the poor Samba performance it makes the IDE hardly usable. How can I improve performance of the Samba share? On my desktop it isn't so bad but I don't know what the difference would be since they are similar setups (Win 7 hosts, cloned guests, SSDs, Vbox guests using SATA in AHCI mode, etc..). With Bridged networking is the performance between the host and guest limited by the physical hardware (Intel 6200 AGN on laptop)? I switched to Host-only and it didn't seem to improve performance at all. To clarify bad performance, I used 7zip to zip a project directory and got 19kbs to 500kbs depending on the size of the files being zipped. On my desktop it was in the ~10mbs range. Any tips for VirtualBox/Samba configuration to get improve the performance? I am using Samba 3.3.2. Hopefully Samba with SMB2 support will be released soon..

• Installed Windows 7 Ultimate on D Drive and previous Windows 7 Enterprise on C Drive has stopped starting up

  Please please help! I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate on same hard drive on D Drive on my laptop and the previous Windows 7 Enterprise which was installed on C Drive is not booting up now. When I turn on my laptop, I see two Windows 7 on the screen, when I select newer one, it starts, but when I select older one which is Enterprise edition, system won't start and I get the DOS black screen with this error message: Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next." Click "repair your computer." Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. I notice that when I run the newer OS installed, the previous OS's drive (Which is D: now instead of C:) has become unusable and when I double click it, it asks me to format the drive. The data, that I had on my D Drive (Which is now C Drive for new OS), I had copied it to a network path and it is available. It was containing Windows 7 Users folder which I copied at that time when installing new windows. I have copied that Users folder again to the new OS's C Drive thinking it would run again, but of no use. Please please please...if someone can help...It is extremely required for me. • What is my BaseDN supposed to be with the following configuration of OpenLDAP?

  I have the following in my OpenLDAP configuration. Using the latest version OpenLDAP on Centos 5.3. Installed using yum. From my /etc/openldap/slapd.conf database bdb suffix "dc=company,dc=com" rootdn "cn=Manager,dc=company,dc=com" From my /etc/openldap/ldap.conf BASE dc=company,dc=com I have successfully added an entry with ldapadd and retrieved it with ldapsearch from a local bash shell on the box. Now I am trying to get a Graphical Editor to connect to this server remotely so I can enter people from my laptop. But I am having no luck. I tried JXplorer, and it connects with Anonymous bind without me having to specify a BaseDN but I can't edit anything that way. If I try and give it a user name and password, using Manager and my rootpw I have in clear text just for testing, every GUI Client on my remote laptop complains about my BaseDN not being the correct format when I enter dc=company,dc=com and I tried cn=Manager,dc=company,dc=com. Error opening connection: [LDAP: error code 34 - invalid DN] I have tried multiple clients and all of them connect as anonymous, none let me connect authenticated where I can actually create or edit anything. I am using Manager as my username and the password from rootpw, is that correct?

• Onboard Ethernet suddenly stopped working to router

  Hey guys, yesterday I have a sudden problem of my Ethernet connection to my router. My computer is a Pendium 4 with Window XP SP3 running on it and it was working fine earlier in the day, but yesterday night was the start of the problem. My computer is unable to ping to the router and to any other website and unable to get internet connection. As beside it was connected to a hub, I directly connected it to the router directly and the same problem occurred, being unable to ping to the router (and connecting to it) and still no internet access. My directly connected to the modem and the problem still persisted. For each connection, I connected it to my computer and my laptop and my laptop was able to connect, while my desktop computer was unable. I wondered if it was a OS issue and ran a live Ubuntu CD to see if Ubuntu was able to connect to the internet, but the issue persisted and I was unable to get internet access. I then set my router's lease time to 1 hour and waited. After 1 hour, the lease for my computer was removed and I hoped this worked, but it didn't work, but something strange is acting up. My desktop computer is still unable to ping to the router or connect to the internet, but for some reason, my router and desktop computer is still able to contact each other by providing a lease of an local ip address. The router record of a lease to my desktop computer, and when I do ipconfig, my desktop also recognize that it has been provided a local ip address. I have concluded that this is a hardware issue and the only solution to fix this is to by a network card adapter, but I am wondering if anyone has any solutions that could explain why this happen, why my mac address is 01-23-45-67-89-ab, and is there any way to fix it without buying a new network card? • Server needs to ping outgoing before allowing connection

  Okay, first our setup: I'm currently working over VPN to a mac mini OSX 10.6 server. We have a testsetup VM running on that, using ubuntu 12.04. Earlier today, there was an outage because of which our mac mini server was reset. Since then, i was unable to initiate a connection to the VM (which i did boot) -- no ssh, no web, ... . I couldn't ssh or web from the mac mini to the vm either. I could do so from within the VM itself, though. Ping did work on all machines. Lastly, I tried pinging from the VM to my laptop. It took a moment, but then it finally started to ping (no timeouts or so). After that, web and ssh magically worked. I then didn't use the machine for about 5 minutes, after which i had to ping from the server to my laptop again before i could setup a connection. I'm in the dark on what this could be, though I think this is something to do with lookups.

• Remote Desktop leaves host unresponsive

  I have my desktop PC at home set up to accept remote connections, and I often connect to it from work on my laptop via mstsc.exe. However, every time I remote to it, I find when I go home that despite the monitor being on - it's not receiving an image and it looks as though the computer is hibernating/asleep. I basically have to restart it whenever I get home and I know there's an answer for why its doing this. More details: When exiting the remote session, I have tried both logging off the account, and closing the RDP window without logging off; both give the same result. When I get home to the desktop I of course try moving the mouse, ctrl+alt+del to see if its responsive to restart, multiple key-press to see if I can get any audio out of it; It seems pretty obvious its sleeping/hibernating in some way: Nothing happens in any of these cases and a physical restart is necessary. Both desktop and laptop are running Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm thinking it really is sleeping/hibernating it, and I'm not sure why because left alone my desktop's power options are set to never turn off the HDD or change its state - I leave it on 24/7. This could be a stupid error on my part but I just can't see it! Thanks.

• Cannot change power button or lid close action

  I have a Samsung 900x laptop and I want to change it so that when I close the lid, nothing happens (I often close the lid to carry it somewhere 10 seconds away, and by putting it into suspend it cancels any active downloads/etc). Easy, right? Go to Power Options and change it there; just like on every other laptop in the world. Not so fast: Saywhat?! That message only shows up for the nodes for Lid Close Action, Power Button and Sleep Button. I can change every other setting except for those three. I'm definately an Administrator on the computer, and I've googled the error and found dozens of hits on other crappy forums, but of course nothing on those worked (otherwise, I wouldn't be here). And as ususal the "Why can't..." hyperlink gives no useful infomation what so ever (just a generic Help document). So - how can I change what closing the lid does? I will modify the registry directly if I have to.

  It is officially claimed by Microsoft (Audio Device Technologies for Windows), that Windows Vista has an integrated system-level support of microphone arrays for improved sound capturing by isolating a sound source in target direction and rejecting ambient noise and reverberation. In more technical terms, an implementation of an adaptive beamformer. Theoretically, microphone arrays with 2-4 mics can substantially improve SNR under some conditions like speaker in front of the laptop in noisy environment (airport, cafe). Surprisingly, though, I find very little information about commercially-available products supporting these new features. I mean products like portable usb micropone arrays or laptops or flat screens with integrated mic arrays. I could only find info about two laptop models having "noise cancelling digital array microphone". These are Dell Latitude and Eee PC 1008P-KR. Now my questions: Do you have any experience with the Windows beamformer implementation? For instance, in the above mentioned laptops. How well does it work? Are there any tests results available in the net or in print (papers?)? Do you know about other microphone array hardware? What could be the reason why mic array technology didn't get sucess Is there mic arrays support in 'Windows 7'?

• Diff bios - corrupt video driver

  Hi, I'm using an Dell M90 Precision Laptop which has a NVidia Quadro FX 2500M graphics card and is running Windows XP. Laptop has been running fine - but a few weeks ago screen went 'white' - restarted computer- bios and startup screens show weird green dots and stripes, normal startup only shows a black screen... only VGA mode works to display something. I've been trying to remove and reinstall the correct drivers downloaded from Dell's website - no solution. I gave up and reinstalled XP - everything was working perfect again. 2 weeks later - again the white screen - tried everything again (flashin new bios also - nothing works) Reinstalled XP - everyhting was working again, so I made a DriveSnapShot of the partition. Today - again the 'white screen'. Ok, no problem ...I was thinking all I needed to do was to restore the DriveSnapShot backup... Few minutes later the backup is restored ... but guess what: video driver does not work correctly... As the DriveSnapShot restored the complete partition, as it was at the time everything was working perfectly, this would mean my driver problems are due to 'settings' in the bios or on the graphics-card itself + these 'settings' can get overridden by doing a new XP-install.... I'm out of options, can somebody help me to find a solution for this problem: Is there some way to backup and restore a bios after seeing some problems? Is there some way to know what is causing this problem like a bios diff utility? Thanks!

• Ubuntu problem - monitor out of range

  Hello, I am using an external monitor for my laptop to run Ubuntu with. I just updated Ubuntu today, but when it is about to reach the Ubuntu login screen, then the monitor says "out of range." Now, Ubuntu boots up into the GUI if I unplug my monitor and use my laptop screen, but I prefer to use the external display. I have tried all of the suggestions from my search results in Google. I tried pressing Ctrl + Alt + +, but nothing happens. I tried pressing Ctrl + Alt + -, but nothing happens. I used Ctrl + Alt + F2 to get into a terminal to run the command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but nothing happens. I believe there are supposed to be options to change the settings, but it does not even give me any. I tried to edit /etc/usplash.conf and /nano/etc/usplash.conf, but they do not exist. I did sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade hoping that it would install drivers or something to help my situation, but they did not help. My monitor is a Westinghouse 22" LCD with resolution 1680x1050. It has been working for the past few months until I updated it today.

• Configuring WPA WiFi in Ubuntu 10.10

  Hello, I am trying to configure my wireless network on my laptop running Ubuntu 10.10 and am having a bit of difficulty. I am a complete Linux newb, but want to learn it, hence the reason I'm trying to set this up. Here's the vitals: It is a Gateway 600 YG2 laptop. It was previously running Windows XP, but I installed Ubuntu 10.10 in place of it (not a dual boot, I removed XP altogether). I have an old wireless card that I'm trying to resurrect. I haven't really used the card in a couple years, but it seems to still work, I just can't connect to my home's wireless network. The card is a Linksys WPC11 v2.5. When I plug it in, Ubuntu recognizes the network, but won't connect to it. My home network uses WPA encryption and the only connection type that Ubuntu's network manager is giving me is WEP and then it asks for a key -- I have no idea what that key should be. So, basically, I'm asking, is there a way I can instead connect through WPA? I've tried creating a new connection in network manager, but that won't work, it keeps falling back to the WEP connection and asking me for a key. I have tried to install the XP driver using ndiswrapper but I don't know if that's working or not. Is there a way to tell if: A) the card is working as it should B) the correct drivers are installed (again, I installed the XP one using ndiswrapper NET8180.INF, but I'm not sure what to do next) Any help would be appreciated. • [SOLVED} How do I restore my audio after uninstalling Ventrilo?

  Hi, I've a Dell studio 1555 bought on september with Windows 7 64bit Professional on it. The audio device works proprerly, while listening to audio contents (from disk or internet) When I use Ventrilo, the audio from other people sounds good and I hear their voices clearly When I use any other VOIP programs like Teamspeak 3, MSN or Skype, I hear a disturbed voice, and it's impossible to comprehend something... Anyway everything worked fine until I installed Ventrilo, but removing it didn´t solve my problem. Update: Here's a sample of how I hear others people voices.. Audio Sample After some tests, also the desktop has the same problem. (I tried TeamSpeak3) Here are some details on my laptop and desktop Laptop Dell Studio 1555 Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4Ghz 4Gb Ram Dual Channel Ati HD 4570 512Mb dedicated (up to 2048) IDT High Definition Audio Desktop Motherboard Asus P5KPL-AM Dual Core CPU E5200 2.50Ghz 2x2GB PC6400 Dual Channel Ati Radeon HD 4650 512MB VIA High Definition Audio Both computers have Windows 7 Professional 64Bit. So how do I restore my audio? SOLVED The problem was in router firmware, there was a bug that recognized VoIP traffic as a DOS attack and the router grambled every packet... I've installed the newest firmware and everything is fine :)

  I face a very strange symptom on my Acer Aspire laptop (with the factory default Win7 install and divers. Windows update running). After waking the computer from hibernation, it is a pain to type, since on average 5-10 keypresses are missing per 100 presses, using the laptop's keyboard. Steps to reproduce: 1) Power off 2) Power on, wait for system to become usable 3) Open notepad, for 5 times do hit 10x the same character. This gives a similar pattern of 50 chars total: xxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaassssssssssdddddddddd 4) Optionally repeat. Everything is fine this far. 5) Hibernate. 6) Power on and resume. 7) Repeat steps 3)-4). This time approximately 3-5 character will be missing from each 50 characters. What I ruled out: putting to Sleep or just Locking and resuming from there does not cause problem battery / AC usage does not matter net connection does not matter running processes seem to be the same before and after hibernation key press speed doesn't really matter. For the test I use a nominal 3-5 strokes/second beat. plugging in an external USB keyboard works fine, but the built-in one still misbehaves What could be the problem? How could I diagnose if the keypresses arrive in, but get swallowed at some point? (maybe some nasty keyboard handler hook misbehaves?). Update: It seems that pushing the PowerSmart button and toggling to power saving state fixes the problem. Also, toggling it again back to the original state keeps it fixed. So this may be a fine workaround, but is not a conforming solution.

• Booting Windows from different partition than system

  I have bought an SSD disk, but my laptop (Dell Precision M6300) refuse to use it as a target disk for windows (AHCPI on/off, BIOS up-to-date). I can't exchange the disk unfortunately... But fortunately, I've managed to install windows using USB disk case. The problem is, that when I put that disk as my internal drive it can't boot. (Disk read error, Three Finger Salute ... ) So I tried with Linux (openSUSE), I manage to install it as well, but when I tried to boot GRUB from internal drive I get errors again. (Should I try GRUB2?) I figured out that I can boot into that internal hard drive's openSUSE system using small USB drive with GRUB, kernel and image on it. So, I just run GRUB from USB drive, it loads necessary stuff from the USB drive and then continues from the internal drive. I want to do the same with Windows. But GRUB (rootnoverify and chainloader +1) does not boot my windows on internal drive. The question: is there any chance to copy the critical windows' boot files into the USB drive, to make it possible to boot from that USB drive, but continue booting from internal (different in general) drive? The USB drive would became a system hardware key! ;-) Disk: Plextor M5S 128GB Sata III, laptop has Sata II, but it's compatible anyway, right?

  I accidentally deleted my Dell xps 14 touch pad disabling driver and I don't know where to find it and reinstall it. I have already tried Dell support and without luck (I don't want to install something that I don't know). Would anyone please send me the link to that driver To clarify: There is this Fn shortcut key used to disable/enable touch pad in Dell xps14 and when press it orange light on touch pad will lit and touch pad will stop working. But after deleting the driver that responsible for that function,it stopped working. My service center is almost 600 miles away and he said that he forgot to add it last time he fix my laptop. Since the internet connection at his place is slow,he can't send me from mail either.So can anyone send me the link for that driver. Since I don't really know about drivers it would be really nice if some one show me the driver name or link. Sorry,here is my laptop service tag "C37KWL1".I don't know how to find the specific driver for that function key.My dell has a short cut for disabling touchpad with picture on it along with the other multimedia short cut key with picture. since xps 15 and 17 have seperated touch key instead of on function keys mine have to choose function key or multimedia key through setting.To be honest my service center tech guy forgot to install it when he repair it and can't send me the file(which is about over 20mb or something according to him)for some reason.All i need is that particular file.

• Google Chrome on Linux not using ALSA for sound

  On my laptop, I've got an .asoundrc file that outputs sound to my USB headset. This works fine for SMplayer and Firefox. However, Google Chrome (at least, Flash-based and HTML5-based videos and HTML5-based audio in Chrome) plays through the laptop speakers instead. I've tried running Chrome from a command-line, hoping there would be some helpful output, but no such luck. I've tried looking through Google for whether Chrome even uses ALSA, or if it uses something else, but I have been unsuccessful in this. This question seems to be the same issue, but no suggestion was made. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running Gentoo with a 3.10.17 kernel, 1.0.27 ALSA utils, 2.6.5 FVWM, and 36.0.1985.143 Chrome. If you need more info, please let me know. EDIT: I've configured the USB headset as the default ALSA device. Volume levels for both headset and onboard are set and un-muted using alsamixer. • Debian - Problems Unmounting External Hard Drives

  I recently installed Debian Testing on a new laptop and I just noticed that I am having some issues with unmounting external hard drives. I am using Mate Desktop 1.8.1. With the 1st drive, if I right click on the drive and select “safely remove”: The drive unmounts, spins down, immediately spins back up an remounts. Unable to unmount. With the 2nd drive, if I right click on the drive and select “safely remove”: The drive unmounts but does not spin down. With the 3rd drive, if I right click on the drive and select “safely remove”: The drive unmounts but does not spin down, immediately spins back up but does not remount, and after 20 seconds, it spins down and stays that way. Behavior is the same on both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports. On my last laptop, on which I also used Debian Testing + Mate desktop, the safe removal of drives worked out of the box and I never had an issue with it. The drives would unmount, spin down and stay that way. To remount the drive, one needed to unplug the device and plug it back in. I am unsure how to troubleshoot this issue and I am not sure if it is merely a matter of installing a “missing” package of editing a config file. Thank you in advance.

• Working with an external button box

  I tried this question on Stack Overflow, but I was pointed here, so here goes: For a new project for myself, I am looking for a way to be able to (for example) open a pop-up window on my laptop, by pressing a button on an external device (to be build by myself, or at least bought) connected with USB. Basically I would be looking at something like a Arduino or Raspberry (IF I am looking in the right direction) with buttons on it, and as soon as I hit a button on the external box with physical buttons, a command activates on my laptop and for example opens a popup window in which I can input tekst. Does anyone know: 1) if it is possible to do this at all. 2) What equipment is needed for the external box, what programming is needed. I preffer .net (dot net) but maybe it can only be done with software from the external box. If anyone can point me in the right direction, like make/model of the external box or websites I would be very happy. I have knowledge of Visual Studio/.net but I am willing to learn other languages if .net is not an option for this project. • Some Portions of Computer Running Slow (Specifically Graphics)

  I noticed that a few things are running slow today on my Windows 7 laptop. Specifically, they are: Opening and closing windows takes several seconds for the animation to complete. Windows media player opens fine, but the movies are very laggy MMORPG's, such as RuneScape, are extremely laggy When waking my computer from sleep mode, after entering my password, my desktop takes about 3 seconds to fade in Other than those, everything runs at a normal speed. Things I've done that maybe contributed to this problem: Changed the graphics processor (by plugging in/unplugging the charger) [however, no matter how I change the graphics, I'm still getting this lagginess] Installed AdBlock, a Firefox addon [I recently removed it, and I'm still experiencing this problem] Went into Advanced System Settings, Clicked Settings, and unchecked a few visual things (such as the animation for opening and closing windows) [sure, this got rid of the opening/closing windows lag, but I like that little animation - plus that leaves all the other lag problems I'm experiencing] So, does anyone have any ideas/fixes? If so, please respond. Thank you. Some Other Information: I'm on a HP Pavillion dv7 laptop, 4285 Entertainment PC, with: intel CORE i5 inside, ATI Mobility Radeon Premium Graphics, Microsoft DirectX11 Opening and closing of windows: Defined as opening a program (i.e. Firefox) or closing it by hitting the X in the upper-right hand corner. Lately, the animation for opening and closing windows (which is simply either growing from the icon from the taskbar to fill the screen, or shrinking from the screen down towards the icon on the toolbar.) This problem also occurs for minimizing/maximizing windows. Very laggy movies: defined as .avi movie files saved to My Documents which skips several frames per second and seemingly slows down the movie as a whole Extremely laggy games: I tried RuneScape today, and movement in the game was at least 10x slower than it ever has been, even when playing on the lowest detail/graphics Desktop taking 3 seconds to fade in after sleep: in this scenario, I had no other programs running visibly. The computer generally fades to black from the password screen to the desktop in about 1 second, normally. However, it is now taking 3 or more seconds.

• Windows 7 clean install becomes corrupt after reboot (repeated many fresh installs)

  My laptop keeps crashing on boot after clean Windows 7 install. Ok, here is the story, and some fact. Computer: Samsung NP900X3C-A04HK (256GB SSD, 8GB RAM) OS to install: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (not from Samsung, own fresh Win) I purchased this laptop about a year ago, never booted it into the Windows Home that was installed on it, installed directly Ubuntu on the machine. Full disc encryption was the selected install, so of course it wiped the complete disc (including Samsung Recovery Partition). After some time, I felt like going back to Windows, as Windows 7 is actually quite nice. So I went to buy a fresh Windows 7Ultimate with SP1. Now to the tricky part. Windows installs perfectly, and after installing all Windows updates, drivers from Samsung, software I need, it is time for shutting it down and go to bed. Starting it up again, and it is not booting, these are the type of errors I have gotten so far (fresh installed it more then a dozen times now, and tried different suggestions from threads on the net). Windows failed to start... Status: 0xc000000f Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. File: /boot/bcd Status: 0xc000000f Info: an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data. And some other errors, not all the same. Not memory of this. I have run different disc checks, and all says my SSD is in perfect shape. Note: Soft reboots from Windows menu works, never gets corrupted. But if I Shutdown and then start it up again, this is when it happens. Can someone help me not get back to Ubunut? What can be the cause, and how can it be fixed so I do not get there problems again?

• CentOS and OpenSSH [on hold]

  I've recently installed CentOS 6 on an old Dell PC. I'm trying to setup OpenSSH at the moment, I been following some tutorials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKafb0koJEg) on You Tube, while they have been very helpful I'm at the point where I need to ask some questions. My goal here is to be able to access the server from my work computer and from my personal laptop (which will be on the same home network as the server). I've installed OpenSSH with no issues. So the first thing I was advised to do was port forwarding. So in the sshd_config file, I've changed Port 22 to Port xxxx (where xxxx is a obviously a four digit value). I then restart the sshd service. I've also configured my router for forward port 22 onto xxxx. Is there anything else I need to do? I've generated the keys on my laptop, and I'm trying to copy them to the server as follows: scp id_rsa.pub xxxxxxxx@localhost:.ssh/authorized_keys but this command fails with the following error message: ssh: connect to host localhost port 22: Connection refused lost connection Any help appreciated. • Outlook 2010: Can I search Only My: Inbox, All Inbox Subfolders, and Specified Archive File Folders all at once

  The setup is a user that has a laptop with Outlook 2010. We have Outlook hosted by Sherweb. The user that has a large number of emails (40,000) in a single Inbox subfolder. (I believe) Having such a large number of emails in an inox is slowing the users laptop down and I want to start moving old emails to a seperate pst file on a machine on our network. The problem I have is the user needs to be able to search all 40,000 emails. Right now he can can search do a search on the single subfolder. I would like to be able to move some of the emails to a seperate pst so I can compact the Inbox and still give them a 'one-click' search function that is still fairly quick. I don't think the 'Search All Outlook Items' is the soltuion because this will search all outlook folders -- sent items, other public folders. P.S. I'm not a expericenced outlook administrator, so there may be some assumptions in my questions that are wrong. I have no problem with somebody showing the error of my ways.
