• How to implement Android Pull-to-Refresh

  In Android applications such as Twitter (official app), when you encounter a ListView, you can pull it down (and it will bounce back when released) to refresh the content. I wonder what is the best way, in your opinion, to implement that? Some possibilities I could think of: An item on top of the ListView - however I don't think scrolling back to item position 1 (0-based) with animation on the ListView is an easy task. Another view outside the ListView - but I need to take care of moving the ListView position down when it is pulled, and I'm not sure if we can detect if the drag-touches to the ListView still really scroll the items on the ListView. Any recommendations?

• How to implement "circular side-scrolling" in my game?

  I'm developing a game, a big part of this game, is about scrolling a "circular" background ( the right end of the Background Image can connect with the left start of the Background image ). Should be something like this: ( Entity moving and arrow to show where the background should start to repeat ) This happens in order to allow to have an Entity walking, and the background repeating itself over and over again. I'm not working with tile-maps, the background is a simple Texture (400x300 px). Could anyone point me to a link , or tell me the best way I could accomplish this ? Thanks a lot.

• Windows Server 2008 and com objects

  Hi, im moving a Dll (built in c++) from windows 2000 server to a 2008 server but im have some trouble to register it. In 2000 all you normaly have to do is a "regsrv32 name.dll" but this will not work in 2008 because you get a pointer error, iv also tried to use "gacutil /i name.dll" because someone told me this might work, but it didnt. So, im kind of desperate, is there anyone that have some solution to how i can get this c++ dll to work in 2000 server so that i can access it from an old classic asp page. EDIT: This is the error when running regsrv: " The module "name.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "name.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again. " Note that i cant edit the dll file in anyway =( Best Regards Marthin

• Converting from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 for ASP.NET web App

  Hi there, I'm moving my ASP.NET website to a new provider. Only problem is, old host support my SQL Server 2000 db. New host only supports SQL Server 2005. How should I go about the conversion ? Can I simply produce a backup of the 2000 (.bak) file at the old host, and restore that file into SQL Server 2005 at the new host ? Or is there more to it ?? Note that I don't own a copy of SQL Server 2005 at home... and I'm trying to avoid having to do so. Thanks, Bazza

• Get #part in URL with PHP/Symfony

  Hi, I'm working with Symfony 1.2. I've a view with a list of objects. I can order them, filter them by category, or moving to the next page (there is pagination). Everything is done with AJAX, so I don't have to load all the page again. What I want to achieve is to have http://urltopage#page=1&order=title&cats=1,2 for example; so the new page is saved in the browser history, and he can paste it to another web. I haven't found a way to get the #part. I know that's only for the browser but I can't believe I can't get through PHP. I'm sure there is a simple solution I'm missing... thanks a lot!

• System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission Exception on New Deployment

  I have a friend that is moving a web application from one server over to another. The new server has the same settings as the first server, however, he's running into a Security issue. Here's the error details: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. The Event Viewer does not point to anything specific in the web.config file or anything. The web applicaiton is on the C: drive. This is a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 server with a brand new IIS 7 installation. IIS is set in classic mode for this app pool.

• GnuPG Shell Script - Refuses to read password

  The script below used to work on Mac OS X, but, since moving it to Ubuntu, it doesn't seem to read from the password file at all. Even when I run it from the command line, no matter what I do, I get a popup prompt asking me for the password. As this will run via cron, I don't want this to happen... I want it to read the password from the file with no prompt. • ASP.NET MVC reminds me of old Classic ASP spaghetti code...

  I just went through some MVC tutorials after checking this site out for a while. Is it just me, or does MVC View pages brinig back HORRIBLE flashbacks of Classic ASP spaghetti code with all the jumping in and out of HTML and ASP.NET with yellow delimiters everywhere making it impossible to read? What ever happened to the importance of code/design separation?? I was really sold on the new technology until the tutorials hit the View page development section. Or am I missing something? (And don't say you can use the template to help because it's jsut moving the spaghetti to another location - sweeps it under the rug - it doesn't fix the problem)

• Odd results when searching for numbers using IXSSO.Query

  Hi, from classic asp on Windows 2008, using an IXSSO.Query, when searching for a string of numbers, for example 10000000001, I receive results that also include variations to this, like 10000000002 10000000003 and so on. If I change the first digit so the search string is 20000000001 I dont get anything. If I keep moving the last digit from my first example to the left, I keep getting hits until I reach the half way point when I get no results! So in other words 10000020000 will return results like in the first example but 10000200000 does not. This all sounds like to me that its doing a match on the first 6 characters and it ignores the rest... • How can I perform action from ASP.NET MVC with different user credentials?

  Hopefully this explanation will make sense, but what is the best way (if it is even possible) to pass along user credentials to preform a specific application from an ASP.NET MVC application. Currently I am working on trying to create directories on another server, we can't do this using the generic credentials that the application is running with; however, we have been told that we can if we pass the credentials of the user currently using the application along. Currently we are running on IIS 6.0 but will be moving to IIS 7.0 in the near future and likewise we are using Integrated Windows authentication for the web applications.

• What's the best way to change the namespace of a highly referenced class?

  I am attempting to move a highly referenced class from one namespace to another. Simply moving the file into the new project which has a different root namespace results in over 1100 errors throughout my solution. Some references to the class involve fully qualified namescape referencing and others involve the importing of the namespace. I have tried using a refactoring tool (Refactor Pro) to rename the namespace, in the hope all references to the class would change, but this resulted in the aforementioned problem. Anyone have ideas of how to tackle this challenge without needing to drill into every file manually and changing the fully qualified namespace or importing the new one if it doesn't exist already?   I have to develop some software in my school to utilize the accelerometer in the Wiimote for recording data from experiments, for example finding the acceleration and velocity of a moving object. I understand how the accelerometer values will be used but I am sort of stuck on the programming front. There is a set of things that I would like to do: Live streaming of data from the Wiimote via bluetooth Use the accelerometer values to find velocity and displacment via integration Plot a set of results Avoid the use of the infrared sensor on the Wiimote Please can anyone give me their thoughts on how to go about this. Also it would be great if people could direct me to existing projects that utizlise the wiimote. Also can someone suggest what would be the best programming language to use for this. My current bet is on using Visual basic. Any sort of help is greatly appretiated.

• How do I wrap a selection with an HTML tag in Visual Studio?

  This seems like the most basic question in the world, but damned if I can find an answer. Is there a keyboard shortcut, either native to Visual Studio or through Code Rush or other third-party plug-in, to wrap the current selection with an HTML tag? I'm tired of typing the opening tag, cutting the misplaced closing tag to the clipboard, moving the cursor, and pasting it at the end where it belongs. Update: This is how TextMate handles surrounding a selection with a tag. Frankly, I'm stunned that Visual Studio doesn't seem to have a similar feature. Creating a macro or snippet for every conceivable tag I might want to use seems absurd.

  I am currently learning C by reading a good beginner's book called "Teach Yourself C in 21 Days" (I have already learned Java and C# so I am moving at a much faster pace). I was reading the chapter on pointers and the - (arrow) operator came up without explanation. I think that it is used to call members and functions (like the equivalent of the . (dot) operator, but for pointers instead of members). But I am not entirely sure. Could I please get an explanation and a code sample?

• NDepend: How to not display 'tier' assemblies in dependency graph?

  I was able to do this in an earlier version of nDepend by going to tools-options and setting which assemblies would be part of the analysis (and ignore the rest). The latest version of the trial version of nDepend lets me set it, but it seems to ignore the setting and always analyze all assemblies whether I want it to or not. I tried to delete the "tier" assemblies by moving them over to the "application assemblies" list, but when I delete them out of there, they just get added back to the "tier" list, which I can't ignore. I don't want my dependency graph to contain assemblies like "system," "system.xml," and "system.serialization!" I want only MY assemblies in the dependency graph! Or is that a paid-version feature now? Is there a way to do what I'm talking about?

• Code coverage in Win32 app

  We are just about to start a new project. The Proof of Concept (PoC) for this project was done simply using Win32. The plan is/was to flesh out the PoC, tidy the uglier parts and meet the requirements set by the project owners. One of the requirements for the actual project is 100% code coverage but I can see problems ahead: How can I acheive 100% code coverage with Win32 - the message pump will be exceptionally difficult to test effectively?! I could compile to a DLL but won't there be code in the main app that won't be under coverage? I am thinking of dropping the Win32 code and moving to MFC - at least then a lot of the boiler plate stuff will be hidden from view (and therefore coverage). Any thoughts on the problem?

• WPF MediaElement pauses when trying to play Windows Media Center recording

  I have an WPF application that starts a live tv recording using Windows Media Center, using the Windows Media Center SDK, waits 2 minutes and then plays the currently recording file (.wtv) in a WPF MediaElement. The problem is that the video visual will freeze and it is not consistent on when it happens. I have looked into it and discovered that the timeline is still moving so the MediaElement still thinks that the video is playing. This happens only when trying to play a video file that is currently being recorded, previously recorded shows play just fine. Both Media Center and Media Player can play those files without any hiccups; it is only the WPF MediaElement that has this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

  Hello, I need to know wether or not to buy the VS 2010 premium or not. I have the database project working on my own version of vs 2008 team suite. My coworkers only have 2008 professional. We are moving to VS2010 now. We do not have MSDN licenses for our company right now. We are looking to buy just the VS2010 no MSDN. It is very pricey to get 6 of VS2010 premium. We need to get our database into source control. We are currently email scripts around, and it very difficult to keep track off. Are there any non-microsoft solutions that would be the same features and be free?

• Mysql: Convert DB from local time to UTC

  I need to convert an existing (datetime fields) db from local time ut UTC. The values are stored ad datetimes on a server with time zone CET (+1) (with summertime +2). When selecting data I use UNIX_TIMESTAMP(), which magically compensates for everything, ie, time zone shift and dst (if i've read the docs right). I'm moving the db to a new server with UTC as system time. Simply subtracting -1 H won't work, as summer time is +2. Any ideas for a clever way to do this? (using sql or some script lang)

• Stack allocation fails and heap allocation succeeds!! Is it possible??

  Hello All, I have the following piece of snippet Class Sample { Obj_Class1 o1; Obj_Class2 o2;}; But the size of Obj_Class1 and Obj_Class2 is huge so that the compiler shows a warning "Consider moving some space to heap". I was asked to replace Obj_Class1 o1 with Obj_Class1* o1 = new Obj_Class1(); But I feel that there is no use of making this change as heap allocation will also fail if stack allocation fails. Am I correct? Or does it make sense to make this change ( other than suppressing the compiler warning ).

  Our company has a very large public Java API which is currently being released standalone and online using (of course) JavaDoc. It is surrounded by product documentation which links into the API. We are moving our static documentation to DokuWiki - which works pretty good - and want to keep the links. Now it would be good to have a method (or doclet) that exports the JavaDoc directly into DokuWiki - or a very near alternative. Question: Is there something like this or do you know a method to do just that?

• Simple Android OpenGL App Lag

  Hi, I have an Android OpenGL application which simply draws 2D squares (using 2 triangles) and animates them moving down the screen. I essentially do this by running: glLoadIdentity(), then glTranslatef, and finally glDrawElements all in a for loop. (The for loop is to draw all 10 blocks on the screen for every frame). In every drawFrame, the y-position of the blocks increments for the animation. The problem I'm having is strange. I run the application and the animation is laggy and not smooth. Then I re-run the application and I get a smooth animation. If I run again, I may get a smooth animation, or possibly not. Is my method correct, or is there a better way of doing this animation? Now we have grown and need to use something a bit more professional like [email protected] how can this change be implemented with minimal disruption? We currently only use smarteremail. Could recieving ONLY with the old and replying with the new be a solution..till we wean our recipients off the old email address? Any suggestions are welcome. How will moving to exchange help in this instance? Can it be configured to automatically send out using a different address? Thanks
