PHP split string into integer element and string

Hello, I have a string say: Order_num = "0982asdlkj" How can I split that into the 2 variables, with the number element and then another variable with the letter element in php? The number element can be any length from 1 to 4 say and the letter element fills the rest to make every order_num 10 characters long in total. I have found the php explode function...but don't know how to make it in my case because the number of numbers is between 1 and 4 and the letters are random after that, so no way to split at a particular letter. Please help as specifically as possible!

Hi I'm having some difficulties with the following problem: I'm making a little game where you're at a specific spot and each spot has each some possible directions. The available directions are N(ord),E(ast),S,W . I use the function getPosDirections to get the possible directions of that spot. The function returns the directions into an ArrayList e.g. for spot J3: [E,W] Now the game goes like this: 2 dices will be rolled so you get a number between 2 and 12, this number represents the number of steps you can make. What I want is an ArrayList of all the possible routes e.g.: I throw 3 and I'm currently at spot J3: [[E,N,E],[E,N,S],[E,S,E],[E,S,S],[W,N,E],[W,N,S],[W,S,E],[W,S,S]] How would obtain the last mentioned Array(list) Thanks in advance

Is it possible to use an incremental value within a variable name whilst declaring it within a loop?

Hi, I'm creating function which will read different XML files each time that will contain different amounts of the same nodes. I have already created a loop which stores the ID of each node into an array, and now I want to create variables for each array member which store attributes of the node with each ID. Because the number of nodes will be different for every XML document my function reads, I cannot manually assign variables for the attributes of each node ID not knowing how many to assign, so I have created a loop which runs specific to the number of items I have stored in the array. Inside this loop I was hoping to have something like: for (i=0; i<array.length; i++) { var ID + i + width = exampleheight var ID + i + height = exampleheight } I know this doesn't work, but was trying to outline what I am looking to find out. Is it possible to use some kind of variable or random number when declaring a variable?

Imagine a situation where tasks are being added to scheduledthreadpoolexecutor. Each of these tasks will keep on running at different periodic intervals. Although all such tasks will not be running at the same time because each is set at different intervals, there may be a situation where a high number of threads are competing for execution. Is there any restriction on total number of threads ? It seems there is a restriction on the total number of idle threads. And does this concept of idle thread imply that long running tasks (thread) may be destroyed and recreated when needed ?

HTML, CSS: how can I merge these divs in order to use float:left property on their children ?

hi, I've 2 sets of thumbnails and in each set I'm displaying them one nearby each other in 4 columns using float:left. I would like to "merge" the 2 sets (but I cannot change the html code) because I want the thumbnails of the second set floating right after the last thumbnail of the first set. In other terms, if in the last row there are only 2 thumbnails and the last 2 columns are empty, the thumbnails of the second set should fill the empty columns of the last row of the first set. Help With Prolog Lists

Hi, Im new to Prolog and was looking for some assistance. What i am trying to do is basically get the some of the list of list, if that makes sense? lol What i am trying to achieve is.... sum([ [1,2],[3,4],[5,6] ]). should return: Number Of Lists: 3 List 1 3 List 2 7 List 3 11....etc I can get the Number of Lists which is fairly simple but im not quite sure how to loop through the List and then for each List add the number up. Am i making this more complicated than it actually is? lol! If anyone can help me or point me in the general direction that would be great. Thanks in advance

How to get REALLY fast python over a simple loop

I'm working on a spoj problem, INTEST. The goal is to specify the number of test cases (n) and a divisor (k), then feed your program n numbers. The program will accept each number on a newline of stdin and after receiving the nth number, will tell you how many were divisible by k. The only challenge in this problem is getting your code to be FAST because it k can be anything up to 10^7 and the test cases can be as high as 10^9. I'm trying to write it in python and having trouble speeding it up. Validating parameters to a bash script

I'm a total newbie to doing any bash scripting, but I came up with a basic one to help automate the process of removing a number of folders as they become unneeded. #!/bin/bash rm -rf ~/myfolder1/$1/anotherfolder rm -rf ~/myfolder2/$1/yetanotherfolder rm -rf ~/myfolder3/$1/thisisafolder This is evoked like so: ./myscript.sh <{id-number}> The problem is that if you forget to type in the id-number (as I did just then), then it could potentially delete a lot of things that you really don't want deleted. Is there a way you can add any form of validation to the command line parameters? In my case, it'd be good to check that a) there is one parameter, b) it's numerical, and c) that folder exists; before continuing with the script.

How many double numbers are there between 0.0 and 1.0?

This is something that's been on my mind for years, but I never took the time to ask before. Many (pseudo) random number generators generate a random number between 0.0 and 1.0. Mathematically there are infinite numbers in this range, but double is a floating point number, and therefore has a finite precision. So the questions are: Just how many double numbers are there between 0.0 and 1.0? Are there just as many numbers between 1 and 2? Between 100 and 101? Between 10^100 and 10^100+1? Note: if it makes a difference, I'm interested in Java's definition of double in particular.

db optimization - have a total field or query table?

I have an app where users get points for actions they perform - either 1 point for an easy action or 2 for a difficult one. I wish to display to the user the total number of points he got in my app and the points obtained this week (since Monday at midnight). I have a table that records all actions, along with their time and number of points. I have two alternatives and I'm not sure which is better: Every time the user sees the report perform a query and sum the points the user got Add two fields to each user that records the number of points obtained so far (total and weekly). The weekly points value will be set to 0 every Monday at midnight. The first option is easier, but I'm afraid that as I'll get many users and actions queries will take a long time. The second option bares the risk of inconsistency between the table of actions and the summary values. I'm very interested in what you think is the best alternative here. Thanks, Dorian

Reading in a file - Warning Message in R

I have a file that has 22268 rows BY 2521 columns. When I try to read in the file using this line of code: file <- read.table(textfile, skip=2, header=TRUE, sep="\t", fill=TRUE, blank.lines.skip=FALSE) I get the following error: Warning message: In scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : number of items read is not a multiple of the number of columns I also used this command to see what rows had an incorrect number of columns: x <-count.fields("train.gct", sep="\t", skip=2) which(x != 2521) and got back a list of about 20 rows that were incorrect. Is there a way to fill these rows with NA values? I thought that is what the "fill" parameter does in the read.table function, but it doesn't appear so. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Python - a clean approach to this problem?

Hi, I am having trouble picking the best data structure for solving a problem. The problem is as below: I have a nested list of identity codes where the sublists are of varying length. li = [['abc', 'ghi', 'lmn'], ['kop'], ['hgi', 'ghy']] I have a file with two entries on each line; an identity code and a number. abc 2.93 ghi 3.87 lmn 5.96 Each sublist represents a cluster. I wish to select the i.d. from each sublist with the highest number associated with it, append that i.d. to a new list and ultimately write it to a new file. What data structure should the file with numbers be read in as? Also, how would you iterate over said data structure to return the i.d. with the highest number that matches the i.d. within a sublist? Writing a simple incrementer counter in rails

For every Card, I would like to attach a special number to them that increments by one. I assume I can do this all in the controller. def create @card = Card.new(params[:card]) @card.SpecNum = @card.SpecNum ++ ... end Or. I can be blatantly retarded. And maybe the best bet is to add an auto-incremement table to mysql. The problem is the number has to start at a specific number, 1020. Any ideas?

Fortran - String with unknown characters into substrings

I am trying to put an input string into sub-string arrays. The number of data in the input file are less than 10 but unknown. The number of spaces between each data is also unclear. Example: Asd B Cwqe21 Ddsw Eww I am quite novice to Fortran, so I do not know which format I should use. My problem is that I do not know the number of data (here I assumed that there are 5), so how can I make the code work? I tried the following which did not work: CHARACTER (LEN=100), DIMENSION(10) :: string READ (1,*) (string,I=1,10) It seems that the error I got was because there was no 6th string to read and put into string(6). I tried using the "Index" to find the space, but since I do not know how many spaces are in the string, it did not help me.

Hello, I need to write a PHP script that will print out results from a MySQL database. For example, say I have 9 fields. Field 1 is an auto increasing number, field two is a three digit number. I need to be able to have a script read, find the matching number (it'll be from a POST), and then display all matching three digit results, and the 7 other fields as well. One way to this is apply css to the that specific row.But problem with this is that Number of column to span are decided by the user input, i.e It may vary every time. Hi, I have this PHP piece of code that gets $_GET['id'] (a number) and do some stuff with this. When its finished I need to increase that number ($_GET['id']) and redirect to the same page but with the new number (also using $_GET['id']). I am doing something like this: $ID = $_GET['id']; // Some stuff here // and then: $newID = $ID++; header('Location: http://localhost/something/something.php?id='.$newID); exit; The problem here is that the browser stop me from doing it and I get this error from the browser (Firefox) : "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." Some help here please!

Random walk- Brownian Motion

I've been assigned the project of creating a simple console app. that models brownian motion in a 2D plane. I wasn't given much information on how to do so (and I'm hoping that it's a pretty popular assignment so that I could get some insight) just that it relies on random number generation. I researched brownian motion for a little bit and saw some formulas that looked complicated, but by the description is just seems to have to move randomly within a certain number interval. Can anyone clarify? Am I to create a program that continually creates a random number in an interval and then modify the particles "x" and "y" coordinate or is there more to it? Thanks for any help.

Highest value datatype can store in c#

I am writing a small program for my assignment to find the primitive roots of a prime number. So far, the program works for smaller prime numbers till 13 and gives correct number of roots. But for higher primes numbers, it is showing only fewer primitive roots. And now i got stuck for the prime number 41, shows no primitive roots for it. I used DOUBLE datatype for the calculation, and again tried with the datatype DECIMAL, but no luck. Does anyone know about this kind of problem??? Thank you.

ActionScript Parameter Filtering

i'm setting up a custom class that accepts some Number parameters, but i need to limit those parameters and would like to know the best way of doing so. currently, i'm simply calling if statements, and throwing an error if the number is above or below what's accepted. for example, there is a parameter that accepts and angle, but only between 0 and 90. in the case i've typed it as a uint so now i only have to check to see if it's above 90. there's also a parameter Number typed parameter that only accepts values between the range of 0.0 and 1.0. is my method of using if statements and throwing erros the usual way of filtering parameters?
