• Why doesn't pppd over ssh work here? Why can't I kill pppd?

  I'm trying to setup a simple ppp tunnel over ssh. It works on several machines just fine. But on one machine, pppd gets "stuck": > pgrep pppd | xargs ps up USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 4178 0.0 0.1 3020 1088 pts/1 Ds+ 05:28 0:00 /usr/sbin/pppd Any attempt to kill it (even sudo kill -9 4178) has no effect that I can see. strace -p 4178 also hangs similarly. After it has been started for a while, I start getting messages in dmesg like shown below. It is started like so from another machine: ssh -t root@server /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth When I do this to one of the machines that work, the remote end's pppd spits out garbage/binary data to the console (as expected). When I do it to the one that fails, I get no output from pppd, but the ssh session eventually times out. If I instead ssh to the machine, and then run /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth in a separate step I also get the expected binary output. I now have a couple of questions: What could be up with the one machine where pppd fails? I don't even know where to start looking... What could be the difference between ssh -t root@server /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth in a single step and ssh root@server and /usr/sbin/pppd passive noauth in two steps? How can it be that I can't kill the process even with sudo kill -9? The only way I know is to reboot. (I've tried searching for something similar but didn't get anywhere so I'm sorry I don't have any more leads) Any ideas? • Using Multiple TinyMCE Packages in a web site asp.net

  Hi all, I got a detailed answer to my previous question about TinyMCE editor (link text) The answer raised a new question . In case I want to use more then one TinyMCE package in my ASP.Net Project For example to use the Development Package and the .Net Package(Or use the Development Package , the .Net Package and the JQuery Package ). what steps do I need to take to include them in my solution? In TinyMCE web site Installation page ( wiki.moxiecode.com/index.php/TinyMCE:Installation ) they wrote : "You should extract TinyMCE in your wwwroot or site domain root folder." But the problem is all the different packages unzip to the same folder name that is tinymce. There can't be more then one folder with the tinymce name in the site domain root folder. (files will be overwritten) Of course I can rename them for example to TinyMCEDev and TinyMceDotNet ,but what about code redundancy issues etc ? Thanks

  Hey guys, I need to add some kind of archiving functionality to a Objective-C Trie implementation (NDTrie on github), but I have very little experience with C and it's data structures. struct trieNode { NSUInteger key; NSUInteger count, size; id object; __strong struct trieNode ** children; __strong struct trieNode * parent; }; @interface NDTrie (Private) - (struct trieNode*)root; @end What I need is to create an NSData with the tree structure from that root - or serialize/deserialize the whole tree some other way (conforming to NSCoding?), but I have no clue how to work with NSData and a C struct containing pointers. Performance on deserializing the resulting object would be crucial, as this is an iPhone project and I will need to load it in the background every time the app starts. What would be the best way to achieve this? Thanks!

I was expecting "ugly" at C:/www/test.pl line 8. If instead I die pp(%ModPerl::ROOT::ModPerl::Registry::C_3a_www_test_2epl::); ...after restarting the service to clear any cached variables, face is not even listed. I could have sworn this code was working the last time I used it...I wrote a whole die hook around this way of naming local variables so that I could get at certain local variables to dump debug information. What's the local namespace?

If so, what should be the correct value? What should i do to simulate the behaviour of 'Upload' menu??(i.e. when 'Upload' menu is visible, 'Import From REP' menu is visible and when 'Upload' menu is not visible 'Import From REP' menu is also not visible. ) Thanks in advance Anoop

• How to use SharpSVN to (quickly) check if a remote folder/file exists on the server

  Say i have a svn repository at https://www.mysvn.com/svn/. How can i use SharpSVN to figure out whether the remote folder https://www.mysvn.com/svn/a/b/c exists on the server? I need to do it an a way that allows me to tell the difference between a failed connection (ie server down) and the folder simply not having been created yet. Calling info on the full https://www.mysvn.com/svn/a/b/c path does not seem to give an exception that enables me to tell the difference between no repository at all and just a missing folder. I could list all files for https://www.mysvn.com/svn/ but the repository can easily be so big that this can take too long. Right now im doing an info on first the root url and then on the full url. If the root url fails i treat it as a server problem, but if it succeeds and the full url fails i assume its because part of the path hasnt been created on the server.

• MySQL died during the night on a 12.04.1 Ubuntu

  I can't explain why, but somehow during the night, one of my MySQL running on an Ubuntu 12.04.1 box broke. The service is running but I can't login anymore (to SQL), the previous password is not working anymore. It does not looks like the server has been compromised (nothing in /var/auth.log) It looks like some automatic security upgrade (server is configured to perform those) has occured and broke something. The MySQL server has restarted a couple of times in the logs at the time errors started to happen (I get email when CRON task fail). In the logs it complains about an unset root password (I do have cron job running all day using SQL so the password was set & working for months). Anyway I can't login without password either! Do you have any idea of what could have happened? How do I get my databases back?   I'm building a desktop application using hibernate 3.5 & JPA 2.0. I have 2 jars, the lib, which defines every entity and DAO, packages looks like this : org.my.package.models org.my.package.models.dao org.my.package.models.utils In org.my.package.utils I defined my hibernate utility class for getting EM & EMF instances, which means the lib is bound to a Persistence Unit name but that's not a problem for now (anyway you can recommend me a better way to manage that) the second jars is built as follow: org.my.package.app META-INF is defined on the root of the project which means in my jar I can find this directories directly in the root: META-INF/ META-INF/persistence.xml org/ org/my/ ... org/my/package/app/Main.class META-INF/ When I run the app, hibernate doesn't managed to find persistence.xml it throws an exception something like "package or class for PersistenceUnitName not found". I googled a bit about the problem but I can't get the source code organisation right. Any help ?

  i built an appengine web app cricket.hover.in. The web app consists of about 15k url's linked in it, But even after a long time of my launch, no pages are indexed on google. Any base link place on my root site hover.in are being indexed with in minutes. but i placed the same link home page of root site a long back. but its of no use. can any one analyse , if there is any issue with cricket.hover.in or if bots have any issues with Google app engine actually tested the url using labs app of webmaster tools of google there the return is fine and html is clear. but when tested the same (cricket.hover.in) at the following urls its showing different results of failure www.dnsqueries.com/en/googlebot_simulator.php www.smart-it-consulting.com/internet/google/googlebot-spoofer/ but if i test some of my php or word press links at the above url's the results are good and fine. please help me with this.

What measures/software would you recomend, and why, to secure this server down and minimalize the attack vector? Webapplications aside ... This is what I have so far: iptables (for gen. packet filtering) fail2ban (brute force attack defense) ssh (chang default, port disable root access) modsecurity - is really clumsy and a pain (any alternative here?) ?Sudo why should I use it? what is the advantage to normal user handling thinking about greensql for mysql www.greensql.net is tripwire worth looking at? snort? What I need to do is add a HKLM entry as well as the registry entry for the program to show in the start menu.   Being a log4net newb / boob I just copied lines from an NHibernate example project where I can see the log.txt file is updated. Is there a quick answer why mine isn't creating the file?   I'm having tab bar with 5 buttons. Out of 5 tabs, 2 are table views which uses navigation controller for showing sub views on click of cell. Above the tab bar, in each view I left some space for ads using "Admob". I'm adding ads using IB. But its giving EXC_BAD_ACCESS when its reaching "adMobAd = [AdMobView requestAdWithDelegate:self];" in AdViewController.m I'm using following lines of code to add views to tab bar view. In my code, I just added ads to LatestNews only. Can some one help me out of this problem.   My collegue suggested me to write a visitor pattern to navigate the AST. Can anyone tell me more how would I start writing it? As far as I understand, each Node in AST would have visit() method (?) that would somehow get called (from where?). That about concludes my understanding. • Accessing a file in Windows and Linux when working with JAVA+Eclipse.

  Hi there. I'm doing some JAVA coding at home and at work. At home i have Linux, work, Windows. The rootpath to X file in Windows is c:\Documents And Settings\User\My Documents\Dropbox\file.xxx and in Linux is something like /media/My Documents/Dropbox/file.xxx So, every time i edit in either system, i have to manually change the root of the file in a new File(FILEPATH) statement. Is there a workaround for this? I bet if the file root is relative to the project resource tree would do the trick, but that's an Eclipse based solution, not JAVA, i believe.

• Top level window on X Window System

  Hello, i want to print on the screen the informations about Top level windows under Linux. I use the xlib functions. I successfully recurse from the root window to print all the informations about all the element on display. But i need only the Top-Level window. I don't find any good way to filter. From wikipedia : The top-level windows are exactly the direct subwindows of the root window. With that definition , I have some windows like: gnome-session, seahorse-daemon,notify-osd or icons, on my list and i don't want them. I also find a function : XmuClientWindow, but i don't understand it's goal. Thanks to help me.
