Now I would like to evaluate it under an energy consumption point of view, the base would be to try to calculate the energy wasted to transmit a single packet, do anybody has any idea how to do that?   • Function to get the font and calculate the width of the string not working on first instance

    I'm trying to calculate the width of the string based on the font style and size. The user will provide the string, the font style and the font size, and then after giving all the data the user will hit the submit button and the function will trigger. Basically this script works but only when the submit button is hit twice or the font is selected twice,. I mean if you selec DNBlock as a font, it will not work for first time, but the second time you hit submit, it will then work. I'm not sure where is the problem here, but when I used the default font style like Arial, times new roman etc it works perfectly fine. Any Idea on this? I suspected that the font style is not being rendered by the script or something. Correct me if I'm wrong. I am trying to calculate bandwidth consumption, (bytes transferred in and out) using C#, described Here using the MS Log Parser. In the above case, if the log files are deleted by the user or any administrator even, the bandwidth calculation will not be possible. Q1: *What is the standard way to measure the Bandwidth for various Hosting accounts (of websites) on a single server?* Q2: *If Log parser mechanism (as described above) is used, then how to take care of the security issue? Is there some system directory or event viewer logs or something which cannot be deleted except by the System account and contains bandwidth data?* Please point me in the right direction. Thanks

    I'm using mysql to create an hotel booking system, but i am struggling a little bit to calculate the final bill. I need a SELECT command to get data from several tables and make some calculations. Basically I just need to get the 'night cost' from a table called 'room_types'. Then, use DATEDIFF function to get the difference of days between the 'checkin' and 'checkout' columns in the table 'room_booking' and multiply the difference with the night cost and display the total. These are the tables I would be using: are room_booking, room_types, booking, and room. With the frequency spectrum and the triangles defined.. - We should filter the frequency (frequencies limited to the triangles, if goes higher only counts till the triangle limit) and calculate the value of each triangle (and after that continue the algorithm). But when does the mel conversation happens? m = 2595 log (f/700 + 1) When do we pass from frequency to mel.. Can someone guide me in the right direction plz :d

    There is a very handy set of 2d geometry utilities here. The angleBetweenLines has a problem, though. The result is always positive. I need to detect both positive and negative angles, so if one line is 15 degrees "above" or "below" the other line, the shape obviously looks different. The configuration I have is that one line remains stationary, while the other line rotates, and I need to understand what direction it is rotating in, by comparing it with the stationary line. EDIT: in response to swestrup's comment below, the situation is actually that I have a single line, and I record its starting position. The line then rotates from its starting position, and I need to calculate the angle from its starting position to current position. E.g if it has rotated clockwise, it is positive rotation; if counterclockwise, then negative. (Or vice versa.) How to improve the algorithm so it returns the angle as both positive or negative depending on how the lines are positioned?

    I want to calculate the angle between two vectors a and b. Lets assume these are at the origin. This can be done with theta = arccos(a . b / |a| * |b|) However arccos gives you the angle in [0, pi], i.e. it will never give you an angle greater than 180 degrees, which is what I want. So how do you find out when the vectors have gone past the 180 degree mark? In 2D I would simply let the sign of the y-component on one of the vectors determine what quadrant the vector is in. But what is the easiest way to do it in 3D?

    I'm trying to calculate the data needed to generate a box plot which means I need to figure out the 1st and 3rd Quartiles along with the median. I have found some solutions for doing it in Postgresql however they seem to depend on either PL/Python or PL/R which it seems like Heroku does not have either enabled for their postgresql databases. In fact I ran "select lanname from pg_language;" and only got back "internal". I also found some code to do it in pure ruby but that seems somewhat inefficient to me. I'm rather new to Box Plots, Postgresql, and Ruby on Rails so I'm open to suggestions on how I should handle this. There is a possibility to have a lot of data which is why I'm concerned with performance however if the solution ends up being too complex I may just do it in ruby and if my application gets big enough to warrant it get my own Postgresql I can host somewhere else. *note: since I was only able to post one link, cause I'm new, I decided to share a pastie with some relevant information

    Hi. I have few columns in my DataGridView, one of them is an unbound column and the DataGridVIew is in VirtualMode. When CellValueNeeded event is called, I want to calculate value of Cells[0] basing on the value of Cells[2] which is in bounded column to the underlaying DataSource. This is how I try to do this: private void dgvItems_CellValueNeeded(object sender, DataGridViewCellValueEventArgs e) { e.Value = dgvItems.CurrentRow.Cells[2].Value * 5; //simplified example } However, I am getting System.StackOverflowException because it seams that call to dgvItems.CurrentRow.Cells[2].Value results in call to another CellValueNeeded event. And so on and so on... However Cells[2] is not an unbound column, so on common sense it should not result in recursive call unless getting value of any column(bound or unbound) firest that event... I can not use here SQL Expression and I can not precalculate e.Value in any SQL call. In real example Cells[2].Value is a key used in HashTable which will return a correct value for the Cells[0] (e.Value). What can I do?

    Project a cubic bezier p1,p2,p3,p4 onto the line p1,p4. When p2 or p3 does not project onto the line segment between p1 and p4, the curve will bulge out from the anchor points. Is there a way to calculate the T value where the tangent of the curve is perpendicular to the anchor line? This could also be stated as finding the T values where the projected curve is farthest from the center of the line segment p1,p4. When p2 and p3 project onto the line segment, then the solutions are 0 and 1 respectively. Is there an equation for solving the more interesting case? The T value seems to depend only on the distance of the mapped control points from the anchor line segment. I can determine the value by refining guesses, but I am hoping there is a better way.

    In my Silverlight app I want a multi-line text box to expand every time the user hits Enter. The difficult part is how to calculate the correct height based on the number of text lines. I have tried the following but the textbox becomes too small: box.Height = box.FontSize*lineCount + box.Padding.Top + box.Padding.Bottom + box.BorderThickness.Top + box.BorderThickness.Bottom; What am I missing here? The line is in an inner loop, so I need it to be fast. I thought of r=(1ULL<<n)-1; but it doesn't work for n=64, because << is only defined for values of n up to 63.

This seems pretty shocking as I would expect that people implementing Javascript in today's modern browsers would be some pretty smart people.     If you have a "ball" inside a 2D polygon, made up of say, 4 line segments that act as bounding walls, how do you calculate the angle of the ball after the collision with the irregularly sloped wall? I know how to make the ball bounce if the wall is horizontal, vertical, or at a 45 degree angle. I also have my code setup to detect a collision with the wall. I've read about dot products and normals, but I cannot figure out how to implement these in Java / Android. I'm completely stumped and feel like I've looked up everything 10 pages deep in Google 10 times now. I'm burned out trying to figure this out, I hope someone can help.

    I want to calculate the execution time of my ASP.NET pages and display it on the page. Currently I'm calculating the execution time using a System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch and then store the value in a log database. The stopwatch is started in OnInit and stopped in OnPreRenderComplete. This seems to be working quite fine, and it's giving a similar execution time as the one shown in the page trace. The problem now is that I'm not able to display the execution time on the page because the stopwatch is stopped too late in the life cycle. What is the best way to do this?
