• FTP/SFTP module for .NET

  I am designing an auto downloader using .NET and C#. I was wondering if there is a decent/robust FTP/SFTP module out there that I can use, preferably free of charge. EDIT: I probably should've noted that I am looking for answer from somebody who tried several and found one that works very well. I currently use .NET wrapper for libcurl for FTP and it does not behave right. For example when I connect to FTP site with Filezilla and provide a path, it finds directory just fine. With libcurl, i get a header for 404 page saying path cannot be found. I am guessing that Filezilla gets 'home' directory correctly, and libcurl puts me to the root (i tried no path, and i had no permissions to access that directory). But anyways, I just don't know enough about FTP itself, so I would like something that just works. Thanks!

• Error when deploying site of a maven multi module project with FTP

  I have a multi module project. When I launch mvn site:deploy, the deployment of the base module works fine, but it fails to create the directory of the module sites on the FTP server: [INFO] Error uploading site Embedded error: Required directory: '/myremoteftprepository/myproject-mymodule' is missing When I create the missing directory by hand, it works fine, but I would like to avoid that. It is surprising that the deploy command do not create it. Do you how to force this directory creation? Is it a bug in the wagon-ftp plugin? • Use of bit-torrent for large file download as an alternative to FTP

  The company I work for procures large volumes of data and does this by subscribing to FTP locations. I was wondering if it is possible to download the same using a tracker, the major challenge is authentication of the users IMO. Most ftp servers we subscribe to have a restriction of the number of ftp connection attempts. Does any one here have any experience with this? Any advice is welcome. Edit To clarify, we subscribe to third party vendors and access their ftp location using credentials provided by them. The service is not exclusive to us, they do sell their data to several others. If we could be part of the swarm, the download rates would be pretty high without added penalty. The question is about the possibility of achieving this, so that we can put-forth a proposal in those lines. The vendors obviously wouldn't share data to non-subscribers, so that is a constraint.

• FTP exception 501 "pathname" more than 8 characters

  I am trying to access a file via a URI using the FTP protocol. For obvious security reasons I had to make some changes but this is where the problems seem to be coming from. My URI is as follows: ftp://user:[email protected]/u/Bigpathname/XYZ/ABC/BigPathname/bigpathname/xyz/abc/MY_LOG.LOG And I see this exception: sun.net.ftp.FtpProtocolException: CWD Bigpathname:501 A qualifier in "Bigpathname" is more than 8 characters This is really confusing as I can access the file from a Windows 7 command line with the CD command just fine. Both one directory at a time and as a full path. I found one article mentioning that MVS file names must be 8 or fewer characters but this does not explain how I can get to these same files from my command line! They do exist there is data there that I can download manual but I can not get there via a URI in Java. PS I use .toURL().openStream() to get files on my local machine just fine, it only fails when I try to get them from my server. EDIT October 1st I am able to access files on the MVS host using FileZilla and the basic FTP client from the Windows 7 command line - but I still cannot get them from a URI/URL. I downloaded a very basic Java built FTP client and tried accessing the same file in my program from there and the path works but because my file name has a dot in it "MY_LOG.LOG" I am getting File does not exist 501 Invalid data set name "MY_LOG.LOG". Use MVS Dsname conventions. I am utterly perplexed by this...

  Hi Everyone, I have an FTP auto downloader program. It downloads new files from a given FTP folder. The application was successful for some FTP folders that i have tested. These folders contain 30 - 50 files. However, when i tried an FTP folder with 150 and 18000 files, i receive this error message: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine. My first assumptions will be because of firewalls or anti virus. I don't have administrative access to this computer so I would like to ask if there are other reasons for this before i raise this to our systems dept? Need anyone's help asap. Thanks :)

• FTP corrupting subsequent aiff files from old mac to new mac

  This is a bizarre one. So I am trying to xfer files from an old mac to a new mac, but the old one has no USB, no firewire, just ethernet. So I hooked it up the the network, downloaded fetch and started a FTP server. The first file transfers fine, but all the subsequent ones are corrupted. I can reconnect and transfer a new file and it works, but every file afterwards is corrupted, somehow. I tried forcing binary transfer, but that didn't help. Any ideas? From System 8.6 Osx 10.7.5

For example, if I edit a text file in the local folder and then save it, it should immediately detect it and push the changes to the remote folder. It can be unidirectional (changes made on the local folder has to be pushed to the remote folder but the reverse is not necessary). It should also be able to specify some excluded files/folders which do not need to be in sync. Is there such an application that you know of?

I need the user to be able to add files to the website directory, but the www-data should have a full access to the added files. user1 is a member of www-data group.   I have been obtaining errors like below because I did not specify enough ports for the active FTP connections. Response: 150 Opening data channel for directory list. Response: 425 Can't open data connection.Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing Things seem to work nicely with limited ports, but when I perform actions that cause very rapid short-lived connections, something like 20-30% of the connections drop with the error above. I started with ports 50000-50100. When I opened up to 50000-52000, the errors disappeared. Why did this fix my problem? I would like to understand why adding ports fixed it. I have a suspicion that ports become "locked down" for a few moments surrounding when they are used in a connection. If connections are happening so rapidly, there may be no ports available, thus the above error. Can anybody confirm?

• Problems accessing FileZilla FTP Server from static IP

  I'm trying to connect to my FTP server from my external IP address on Comcast Business. On the gateway I've set up port-forwarding on ports 20-21 to my server. Additionally I've forwarded ports 7000-8000 to my server for use in passive mode. In my FileZilla Server application I've set up passive mode to use my static IP and to use the subset of ports listed above. Unfortunately, it doesn't work through the external static IP for some reason, but I can internally. When I try to connect through static IP, the FileZila monitor says Connected, sending welcome message.... 220 FileZillaServer version 0.9.37 beta could not send reply, disconnected My firewall doesn't register any block events and windows firewall is disabled. What am I doing wrong or missing?

  I know the FTP username and password for a site we own and need to know how we can update some files on the server. It seems quite a small thing to do and I'd like to have a go at doing it myself. A few years ago a friendly local guy help set up a website for my wife's floristry business. The site has a "contact us" page, and messages are forwarded to our home email address. We've now just changed our home email, and so I now need to reset the forwarding function on the website. The helpful local guy seems to have moved away, or retired - there's no way I can find him now. I tried to get help on how to change the forwarding address from the hosting people, but they say they can't help me. How do I go about updating the pages on the site? A step-by-step guide on how to do it would be great.

  Hi There, I've got a set of tools which periodically (about once a day) generate a complete set of static HTML pages for a site with associated folder structure etc. I then need to put those file onto the production server, my problem is that the server runs IIS(6 I think) and I only have regular FTP access. I need a way to automate the process of publishing the new site and it needs to a total replacement of the files each time its published, eg delete the whole folder & contents then put the new ones up. My source server is a ubuntu machine and I've got total control at that end, I have tried using CurlFTpFS but it seems to be too slow for what I'm trying to do and locks up. Rgds Sam

• What other protocols must not be fire-walled for FTP to work?

  my Netgear router randomly reset itself the other day loosing all of my config settings: DSL details, Firewall rules, the lot! So I set about restoring all of the details manually, but when it came to configuring the firewall I wanted improve the security by explicitly setting 'deny' rules for everything that I figured is 'non-essential', and (although not necessary) whilst I was at it I set explicit 'allow' for the 'essential' protocols. I'll admit now I didn't really know what I was doing and everything was just 'my best guess', but I enabled only DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SFTP, TFTP with everything else blocked. This did not work for me as I could not access 99% of web sites (although strangely Google worked!), so I played around a bit more and found that (oddly) if I disabled just the explicit 'allow' rules then everything worked fine, for browsing anyway. Today I came to work on some web-sites via FTP and just could not get a consistent connection, it kept dropping out after a few files or being blocked by the server or simply not connecting. It would authenticate okay but then stop when retrieving the initial directory listing! e.g.: Status: Delaying connection for 1 second due to previously failed connection attempt... Status: Resolving address of ftp.domain.co.uk Status: Resolving address of ftp.domain.co.uk Status: Connecting to 123.123.123.123:21... Status: Connecting to 123.123.123.123:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... I'm (clearly) no server engineer, or protocols / fire-wall expert so I was hoping that some one could maybe shed some light on why my FTP is failing. I've been wondering if I ought to be allowing BGP, BOOTP and/or IDENT (or any others)? What other protocols are required for FTP? Thanks in advance!

At a high level - this is my code structure /home/webadmin/example.com/html/images /css /js /login.php /facebook.php /home/webadmin/example.com/application/library /views /models /controllers /config /bootstrap.php /home/webadmin/example.com/cgi-bin I want the new user to be able to have access to only these folders /home/webadmin/example.com/html/js /home/webadmin/example.com/html/css /home/webadmin/example.com/application/views He should not be able to view even the content of other folders including files like bootstrap.php or login.php etc If any sys admins can help me set this account up - will really appreciate it.   I'm trying to connect to a CentOS Linux box that I have hosted on EC2 and I think I have everything configured correctly but when I try to connect I get this series of messages Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Command: PASV Error: Connection timed out Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing Not sure where to start troubleshooting this issue. Any ideas? Do I need to change any permissions? I would think this ID has the ability to see my own home directory. I am able to push/pull files from the command line version of FTP client working on Windows.
