  • How to remove svn folders over FTP on Windows hosting

    Hi there, I've accidentally copied a large part of a folder tree from my SVN working copy to my shared Windows web host via FTP. The site is now littered with .svn directories and and I need some way of cleaning them. The only access I have to the server is via FTP, or by running a script on the server. Does any one have a script which can be run remotely to remove the files over FTP from my development machine (any language Windows/Linux is fine) or a script in ASP, ASP.net or PHP I can run directly on the Windows server to remove these directories?   • Testing file uploading and downloading speed using FTP

    Hi all, I am working in a desktop application using java. In my application i have to perform a speed test which will show the file uploading and downloading speed. For uploading test i am uploading a small test file to a FTP server and based on time taken i am calculating the file upload speed. similarly i am downloading a test file form server and calculating download speed. But result i am getting doesn't match with actual FTP file uploading and downloading speed.it seems that the establishing connection to FTP server is increasing the time, hence the resultant speed i am calculating is less. Could you suggest any link or some way to get nearest uploading and downloading speed. i thanks to all your valuable suggestion.

  • Available options for hosting FTP server in .NET application

    I need to implement an FTP service inside my .NET application (running as a Windows Service) and have not had much luck finding good/current source code or vendors. Ideally it needs to be able to respond to the basic FTP Protocol and accept the data stream from an upload via a stream, enabling me to process the data as it is being received (think on the fly hashing). I need to be able to integrate it into my service because it will stack on top of our current code base with an existing custom TCP/IP communication protocol. I don't want to write (and then spend time debugging and performance testing) my own protocol, or implementation. I have already found plenty of ftp client implementations, I just need an acceptable server solution.

    I am trying to find an alternative to FTP? It's a single file transfer up to 4gb. Any suggestions? maybe HTTP? Or should I stick it out with FTP? More info - We have an app that we distribute to tens of thousands of clients that upload single large files. FTP has proven to be error prone with a single file of that size. Speed is always a consideration. 'Resume' is a must. Cost shouldn't be an issue - I guess it depends.

    I'm trying to access an FTP server from my PHP script using Codeigniter's FTP Library. These functions work great, but when testing the script I discovered that if I attempt to connect to a server that does not exist, the script does not terminate with an error message of any kind. The page continues to execute, until the web server gives up, returning an empty document. So I am wondering, is there a way to limit the amount of time that Codeigniter can try to connect to an FTP server, then display a message if that times out? I tried using the php function set_time_limit(), but it does not behave how I expected it to. Thanks for your help.

    Hello! My FTP client (apache commons ftpclient) needs to download file from FTP. The problem is that an external service may not have finished writing to this file before I start downloading. Is there any way to determine via FTP whether the file is already closed (i.e. there is no writing handlers opened)? The problem is that I cannot synchronize with that external service. But I mustn't download file which is not finished yet (a large JPEG). Thanks in advance!

    We're making a bespoke software for our client and use Codebase for our project management. Is it a good idea to let our client view our project management board? The advantages that we thought of are that this would enhance the cooperation between the client and the dev team, following agile practices. He would essentially become part of our team. It would also reduce communication overhead and make sure we're on the same page. The client could track the progression of the system and make suggestions along the way on the user stories. In addition, he could submit bugs or feature requests. The disadvantages that we though of are that some aspects of the board might be too technical to the client. He would suggest changes to the user stories too often and he might view some content that we normally wouldn't want our client to see. For example, when we compromise on technology or functionality, the client might question that and insist on doing things one way or the other.

When I try to ping the server from client computer A I get the following: PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping succeeds! From client computer B, BOTH the pings fail. PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping fails with a message "Ping request could not find host 74.208.192.xxx:80" Both clients A and B are on the same subnet. The server is outside (a virtual server hosted by an ISP) I have an ASP.NET application in a virtual directory on the server. In IE or firefox, if I enter http://74.208.192.xxx/subdir/subdir/../Default.aspx, it works from both the clients! The server has default firewall settings but web server enabled (Port 80 is open). From client A (note the different 'reply to' address when the ping succeeds.   • Microsoft FTP fails to connect after the client requests the list of features (FEAT)

    This is a really weird problem. The first few times I try to connect Filezilla just hangs on the line 211-Extended features supported: for a while before coming up and saying Error: Could not connect to server. The filezilla log below: Command: PASS *********** Response: 230 User logged in. Command: FEAT Response: 211-Extended features supported: Error: Could not connect to server The weird thing is if I keep trying to connect eventually it just works and connects fine. After Filezilla knows which features the server supports it stops asking for a while which enables you to connect first time until Filezilla decides it wants to double check the features list again. I'm at a loss on how to debug this. Has anyone experienced similar?

  • How can I automate FTP downloads based on date without bi-directional syncing?

    I have a particular FTP-related situation that I'm having trouble finding a solution for. I need an FTP download/syncing application that can operate within the following parameters: It must run under Windows (installing Python to be able to run a script or some such thing is an acceptable solution). It must be able to ignore files before a certain date (I want to start downloading new files, not all the files that exist in this very large FTP directory). I don't want bi-directional syncing (e.g. I don't want changes I make to the local files and directory structure to change the remote FTP server, the FTP server needs to be left completely alone). Automating it in some fashion would be ideal. What would you guys suggest? The solutions I'm turning up are all missing the mark in some fashion (e.g. they have bi-directional syncing or they have no way of starting the syncing today instead of trying to pull down the entire directory).

    I am running Apache and Filezilla ftp server in Windows. I've been noticing for the last few months that whenever I start up the ftp server, the websites start to run slow. When I shut off the ftp server, the websites start speeding up again. Sometimes I need to restart Apache server after shutting off the ftp server to speed up the websites. I only start ftp server whenever I need to allow remote file transfers. Other than that it's always off. I'm not sure what's happening and where to look.

    Hi have ProFTPD runningon a brand new CentOS 5.8 server with Plesk, and its behaviour is inconsistent at best. I tried to transfer a directory from my PC, and every time I get a transfer failed on a random file. It's never the same one that fails, it just fails. Sometimes it's a .gif, sometimes it's a .css, sometimes it's a JPG. Of several hundred files, a dozen is always failing for no apparent reason. The error that I get is the following: COMMAND:> [27/11/2012 11:43:52] STOR main_border.gif [27/11/2012 11:43:53] 500 Invalid command: try being more creative ERROR:> [27/11/2012 11:43:53] Syntax error: command unrecognized. The above is just an example, the "command unrecognized" occurs with LIST and other commands as well. The above is the default configuration set by Plesk 11. I don't know much of why is that way, my knowledge of Linux System Administration is very basic and the one of ProFTPD is a complete zero. Thanks in advance for the help. Update Issue experienced with CuteFTP and FileZilla. Update Replaced ProFTPd with PureFTPd, issue persists. Sometimes I get "command unrecognized", sometimes "failed to establish data connection". I'm starting to think that it could be a network issue, but I have completely zero knowledge of networking.

  • What is the secure way to isolate ftp server users on unix?

    I've read documentation for various ftp daemons and various long threads about the security implications of using a chroot environment for an ftp server when giving users write access. If you read the vsftpd documentation, in particular, it implies that using chroot_local_user is a security hazard, while not using it is not. There seems to be no coverage of the implications of allowing the user access to the entire filesystem (as permitted by their user and group membership), nor to the confusion this can create. So, I'd like to understand what is the correct method to use in practice. Should an ftp server with authenticated write-access users provide a non-chroot environment, a chroot environment, or some other option? Given that Windows ftp daemons don't have the option to use chroot, they need to implement isolation otherwise. Do any unix ftp daemons do something similar?

  • When FTPing into CentOS server, it will drop me into 2 different directores based upon FTP access tool

    I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.7. I created a new user 'ftpuser' with a home directory set to '/var/ftp'. If I FTP to the server using a FTP client it drops me into that home directory(good). If I use IE and use 'ftp://myserver' it drops me into the root of the server(?what?). First: why is this happening, this doesn't seem like correct behavior. Second: How do I prevent this, how do I force 'home' directory no matter what FTP access mechanism? Thanks for any assistance!

    Hi All, We have been using apache commons net FTP classes to connect using a proxy to a Sterling commerce FTP gateway located outside our network to pull files. We do not list the files since we know the name of the file to be pulled so we pull it directly using the below method. boolean isTransferred = ftp.retrieveFile(remoteFileName, outputFile); It was working since 3 years and we have been facing issues since last 2 weeks. The error occurs at above line and is org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPConnectionClosedException: FTP response 421 received. Server closed connection. org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTP.__getReply(FTP.java:347) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTP.sendCommand(FTP.java:450) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTP.sendCommand(FTP.java:478) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient.openDataConnection(FTPClient.java:476) org.apache.commons.net.ftp.FTPClient.retrieveFile(FTPClient.java:1228) We are facing these issues intermittently since last 2 weeks and not sure what could be the root cause of it.     To transfer files from my Android phone to Ubuntu, I use an app that creates a FTP server on the phone. Copying files to Ubuntu 12.04 (same with 12.10) I get up to 260 KB/s. Copying files to Windows 7 I get up to 1050 KB/s. I am currently on a fresh install of 12.10 with barely anything installed with the same results. I have tested with both a Galaxy S3 and HTC Desire HD with identical results. I have tested about 5 apps with the same results. Why is it slow on Ubuntu?

Currently to edit a file on the server I have to open the server in Cyberduck, navigate with the mouse to the folder I want and then click "Edit," which opens a temporary file. Anyway, editing files on the server would be way easier if I could use the terminal to navigate through the file directory and edit files. Is there a way to create a symbolic link in my home directory to an FTP server? edit: I'm on a Mac
