  The standard Joomla registration forms has a limited set of fields available. What's the "correct" method for adding the user's first name, last name, and phone number to the registration project? I can certainly modify the Joomla core, but that's less than ideal. A nickel for your thoughts.

  By selective column display i mean the following: a control shows a listing of widgets (WidgetVm.DisplayName), with the default display name being in English (WidgetVm.EnglishName), but with the option to show the widget in French (WidgetVm.FrenchName). There also sorting and filtering available, which is why CollectionViewSource seems ideal. I know you can have multiple views over the same source but I haven't figured out how to do this yet. I know about JMS but that is overkill for my need. The publish/subscribed data are the result of scans of a file system, with scan results being fed to another component for processing, which are then processed before being fed to another and so on.

  Hello, I need to display a text in 3D using vml/canvas/svg and do some transformation to the shape of the text like the effect of Ctrl+T in photoshop, even align a line of text to a curve, is there a way to convert text to shape first? The only thing close is getImageData() in firefox which is not ideal but OK. Any better methods? Using browser-specific hacks or voodoo is OK, but no Flash please :)

  Is it possible to change the jre parameter values after the exe file is generated through Launch4j? The ideal scenario is like this: The default parameter values are applied when the program is started. However, when the user wants to change some jre parameter values, he goes to a .ini file, MyProgram.ini for example, changes the values there, and the new values will be applied next time the program is started. I think eclipse uses the same way for its memory and some other parameter settings.

  I'm generating a Crystal Reports report which will ultimately need to be split into thousands of pdf files. What would be ideal would be if Crystal Reports had something like a "file break", like a page break, that you could insert into the file at the appropriate places. I will need reasonably fine control over the file names, as well....something like "fileName_{CustomerId}_{CustomerIsLocal}.pdf". I'm presuming a third-party piece of software will probably be needed. Thoughts? TIA.

• WCF hosting in .NET compact framework

  I would like to host a service on a WinCE device. The WinCE device is the host which can be accessed(control and data acquisition) by multiple clients (PC or WinCE) over serial port, TCP, USB etc. I was considering using Protocol Buffers for serialization on the wire. It would be ideal to use WCF or remoting but as far as I see they are not implement on the Compact Framework. Anyone have any ideas how this can be achieved.

  I have a component inside a JInternalFrame which needs to perform actions when keys are pressed within the JInternalFrame's parenting window. Using InputMap/ActionMap would be ideal, but the getInputMap(WHEN_IN_FOCUSED_WINDOW) of the component returns an InputMap that treats the JInternalFrame as the "focused window", rather than its parenting window. Any solutions or ideas?

  I'm looking for a quick way to log some data - I seem to remember a way to write to the access log, similar to System.Out.Println() but I can't seem to remember how to do it. I can't attach a debugger, nor can I add additional information to the web app via Response.Write(). Is there a simple way - a single statement with no configuration changes would be ideal - to write to either the error or access logs?

  How can I create global variables that are shared in C? If I put it in a header file, then the linker complains that the variables are already defined.
