  EMC is on site and told me: The ESRS SAN monitoring solution will cease to function if that host is VMotioned In case anyone doesn't know, the ESRS is a dial home solution that works over IP. An EMC SecureID is required to add or modify the list of devices that are monitored. The ESRS software is installed on the customer premises. Question If ESRS truly fails to work, as the EMC engineer stated, and based on our customer experience, what is it within VMWare that is exposed to the virtualized host that allows this behavior to happen?

• How do you fix the Performance Dashboard datetime overfow error

  I'm a programmer/DBA by accident and we're running SQL Server 2005 with Performance Dashboard for basic monitoring. The server has been up for a few weeks and now we can't drill into certain reports. Is there any way to reset these reports without a complete reboot? edit: I bet the error message would help. I get this when I drill into the CPU graph: Error: Difference of two datetime columns caused overflow at runtime.

• Windows Server traffic monitor that show traffic for each connected IP

  I would like to see traffic in bytes of individual users (IP's) in real time. Logging would be good too. Additionally I would like to see which process (CGI.exe, php script etc) they are connected to or minimally what the GET/POST request was. I have looked at many server monitoring tools but have not found something like this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• How can I filter packets from a port monitor?

  I have some data going from Point A to Point B. I have a SPAN monitor set up to a monitoring device C. To recreate some real world scenarios, I want to filter out all traffic which is a certain type (H.323 VoIP Signaling Packets) so that C sees a subset of the information that is flowing from A to B. What would the easiest way to do this be? I assume I would need a computer with 2 NIC cards and some software to examine each packet and chuck out the H.323 VoIP packets? Thanks!

  Do anyone know if there is out there any API/library to access NNM database from perl or python? We have a NNM 7.53 which give us access to its data with its java based applet through http. And of course through the 'ovw' GUI interface. I've tried to use Mechanize and selenium2(webdriver) to automatize some checks.   Hi, I need a Windows (XP/7) utility to continuously monitor always-running processes and kill them (and optionally restart them) if they hang. There are a lot of interactive tools out there (Sysinternals, most notably). But I have a program on a little-used workstation that needs to run continuously and reliably, both of which are not two of its strong suits :) It requires continual babysitting, and I'd rather just have a monitoring utility (even a paid one) that can kill/restart it on definable conditions -- e.g. CPU 80%, Status of "Not Responding", etc.

  I'm using vpsinfo on all my linux servers, both virtual and non virtual and I'm wondering does anybody know of a similar script for windows servers? I sure could use one, so much that I'm even tempted to write one, but lack the time to do so. EDIT: I am not looking for monitoring application. They both provide very nice trending, alerting, and reporting capabilities for my *nix boxes, and I need to find something similar for Windows. Can anyone out there recommend such a tool? • Zabbix not getting data for one filesystem

  I have Zabbix monitoring disk space for several volumes on several servers. It works fine on all of them except for one of the volumes on one of the servers which always reports as 0. However, when I run ./zabbix_get -s localhost -p 10050 -k 'vfs.fs.size[/home, free]' locally on the machine in question, it gives me the correct, non-zero size which matches the output of df. How can I go about troubleshooting and correcting this problem?

I ask this since ec2 instances are basically VPS's, and using output from commands like top, vmstat, htop in scripts may not give the clear picture as the CPU cycles are shared between other instances as well. What should one keep in mind while monitoring CPU usage on a VPS?, should one have alerts based on top load or % of CPU used by user processes coupled with other factors like processes waiting on disk io, hardware interrupts?

• How to target SCOM 2007 R2 monitor to monitor only one server

  Hi, This might be basic, but hopefully someone can help me: We have a well-working SCOM 2007 R2 implementation monitoring our Microsoft infrastructure. Now, on one of these servers there's an event (logged to the eventlog) that I need to be alerted on. I have created a group and put this one windows server in it. Then, I created a monitor with simple event detection, entered the event id and used the group name as "monitor target". This doesnt work - the monitor doesn't show up in health explorer at all. However, If I create the monitor with "Windows computers" as target it works, but that means I'll have to disable the monitor, and then enable it for the group, which is cumbersome and slightly illogical to me. Is this by design, or am I doing something wrong?

  We have a website which is sometimes performing slowly, and / or completely hangs. I have setted up temporarily the default system performance data collector in Performance Monitor, to see if this can shed some light. However, the default Data Collector set collects a huge amount of counters, as well as generates huge logs files. Just 8 hours of data resulted in 4GB of data. Which performance counters matter the most, when judging server load? Also, is it a performance concern if one leaves such data-collectors running indefinitely? Obviously, I will not know when the server will experience slow performance, so I need the logs there so that I can check them out. Any other specific guidelines on monitoring server performance would be greatly appreciated. OS is a Windows Server 2008 R2 (Web Edition).

• Websphere - Performance Monitoring Infrastructure servlet login GET

  I am trying to make an http call to the WebSphere PMI servlet. Websphere has security enabled and therefore I am asked to enter user credentials in order to display the xml. What actually doesn't work as I expect is that username and password in the url are not recognized and the BASIC authorization form is displayed. Obviously it doesn't work from a third party application point of view, I need to pass those variables as GET request. Any suggestion?
