  • @dynamic property needs setter with multiple behaviors

    - by ambertch
    I have a class that contains multiple user objects and as such has an array of them as an instance variable: NSMutableArray *users; The tricky part is setting it. I am deserializing these objects from a server via Objective Resource, and for backend reasons users can only be returned as a long string of UIDs - what I have locally is a separate dictionary of users keyed to UIDs. Given the string uidString of comma separated UIDs I override the default setter and populate the actual user objects: @dynamic users; - (void)setUsers:(id)uidString { users = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray: [[User allUsersDictionary] objectsForKeys:[(NSString*)uidString componentsSeparatedByString:@","]]]; } The problem is this: I now serialize these to database using SQLitePO, which stores these as the array of user objects, not the original string. So when I retrieve it from database the setter mistakenly treats this array of user objects as a string! Where I actually want to adjust the setter's behavior when it gets this object from DB vs. over the network. I can't just make the getter serialize back into a string without tearing up large code that reference this array of user objects, and I tried to detect in the setter whether I have a string or an array coming in: if ([uidString respondsToSelector:@selector(addObject)]) { // Already an array, so don't do anything - just assign users = uidString but no success... so I'm kind of stuck - any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  • Cannot access NSDictionary

    - by michael blaize
    I created a JSON using a PHP script. I am reading the JSON and can see that the data has been correctly read. However, when it comes to access the objects I get unrecognized selector sent to instance... Cannot seem to find why that is after too many hours !!!! Any help would be great ! My code looks like that: `NSDictionary *json = [[NSDictionary alloc] init]; json = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:receivedData options:kNilOptions error:&error]; NSLog(@"raw json = %@,%@",json,error); NSMutableArray *name = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [name addObjectsFromArray: [json objectForKey:@"name"]];` The code crashes when reaching the last line above. The output like this: raw json = ( { category = vacancies; link = "http://blablabla.com"; name = "name 111111"; tagline = "tagline 111111"; }, { category = vacancies; link = "http://blobloblo.com"; name = "name 222222222"; tagline = "tagline 222222222"; } ),(null) 2012-06-23 21:46:57.539 Wind expert[4302:15203] -[__NSCFArray objectForKey:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xdcfb970 HELP !!!

  • UITableViewRowAnimationBottom doesn't work for last row

    - by GendoIkari
    I've come across a very similar question here: Inserting row to end of table with UITableViewRowAnimationBottom doesn't animate., though no answers have been given. His code was also a little different than mine. I have an extremely simple example, built from the Navigation application template. NSMutableArray *items; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; items = [[NSMutableArray array] retain]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemAdd target:self action:@selector(addItem)] autorelease]; } - (void)addItem{ [items insertObject:@"new" atIndex:0]; [self.tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:[NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0]] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationBottom]; } - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return items.count; } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = [items objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView commitEditingStyle:(UITableViewCellEditingStyle)editingStyle forRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { if (editingStyle == UITableViewCellEditingStyleDelete) { [items removeObjectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; [tableView deleteRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationBottom]; } } The problem is, when I either insert or delete the very last row in the table, the animation doesn't work at all; the row just appears or disappears instantly. This only happens with UITableViewRowAnimationBottom, but that's the animation that makes the most sense for creating or deleting table cells in this way. Is this a bug in Apple's framework? Or does it do this on purpose? Would it make sense to add an extra cell to the count, and then setup this cell so that it looks like it's not there at all, just to get around this behavior?

  • Looping through NSArray while subtracting values from each object? [on hold]

    - by Julian
    I have NSNumber objects stored in an NSMutableArray. I am attempting to perform a calculation on each object in the array. What I want to do is: 1) Take a random higher number variable and keep subtracting a smaller number variable in increments until the value of the variable is equal to the value in the array. For example: NSMutableArray object is equal to 2.50. I have an outside variable of 25 that is not in the array. I want to subtract 0.25 multiple times from the variable until I reach less than or equal to 2.50. I also need a parameter so if the number does not divide evenly and goes below the array value, it resorts to the original array value of 2.50. Lastly, for each iteration, I want to print the values as they are counting down as a string. I was going to provide code, but I don't want to make this more confusing than it has to be. So my output would be: VALUE IS: 24.75 VALUE IS: 24.50 VALUE IS: 24.25 … VALUE IS: 2.50 END

  • How can I optimize this loop?

    - by Moshe
    I've got a piece of code that returns a super-long string that represents "search results". Each result is represented by a double HTML break symbol. For example: Result1<br><br>Result 2<br><br>Result3 I've got the following loop that takes each result and puts it into an array, stripping out the break indicator, "kBreakIndicator" (<br><br>). The problem is that this lopp takes way too long to execute. With a few results it's fine, but once you hit a hundred results, it's about 20-30 seconds slower. It's unacceptable performance. What can I do to improve performance? Here's my code: content is the original NSString. NSMutableArray *results = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; //Loop through the string of results and take each result and put it into an array while(![content isEqualToString:@""]){ NSRange rangeOfResult = [content rangeOfString:kBreakIndicator]; NSString *temp = (rangeOfResult.location != NSNotFound) ? [content substringToIndex:rangeOfResult.location] : nil; if (temp) { [results addObject:temp]; content = [[[content stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@%@", temp, kBreakIndicator] withString:@""] mutableCopy] autorelease]; }else{ [results addObject:[content description]]; content = [[@"" mutableCopy] autorelease]; } } //Do something with the results array. [results release];

  • Help: List contents of iPhone application bundle subpath??

    - by bluepill
    Hi, I am trying to get a listing of the directories contained within a subpath of my application bundle. I've done some searching and this is what I have come up with - (void) contents { NSArray *contents = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathsForResourcesOfType:nil inDirectory:@"DataDir"]; if (contents = nil) { NSLog(@"Failed: path doesn't exist or error!"); } else { NSString *bundlePathName = [[NSBundle mainBundle] bundlePath]; NSString *dataPathName = [bundlePathName stringByAppendingPathComponent: @"DataDir"]; NSFileManager *fileManager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSMutableArray *directories = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (NSString *entityName in contents) { NSString *fullEntityName = [dataPathName stringByAppendingPathComponent:entityName]; NSLog(@"entity = %@", fullEntityName); BOOL isDir = NO; [fileManager fileExistsAtPath:fullEntityName isDirectory:(&isDir)]; if (isDir) { [directories addObject:fullEntityName]; NSLog(@" is a directory"); } else { NSLog(@" is not a directory"); } } NSLog(@"Directories = %@", directories); [directories release]; } } As you can see I am trying to get a listing of directories in the app bundle's DataDir subpath. The problem is that I get no strings in my contents NSArray. note: - I am using the simulator - When I manually look in the .app file I can see DataDir and the contents therein - The contents of DataDir are png files and directories that contain png files - The application logic needs to discover the contents of DataDir at runtime - I have also tried using NSArray *contents = [fileManager contentsOfDirectoryAtPath:DataDirPathName error:nil]; and I still get no entries in my contents array Any suggestions/alternative approaches? Thanks.

  • Generating an NSDictionary from an SQL statement.

    - by Ed Wist
    I am trying to generate an NSDictonary that can be used to populate a listview with data I retrieved from an SQL statement. when I go to create an array and add them it adds the arrays for ALL my keys and not just for the current key. I've tried a removeAllObjects on the array but for some reason that destroys ALL my data that I already put in the dictionary. //open the database if(sqlite3_open([dbPath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK) { const char *sql = "select alphaID, word from words order by word"; sqlite3_stmt *selectStatement; //prepare the select statement int returnValue = sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, sql, -1, &selectStatement, NULL); if(returnValue == SQLITE_OK) { NSMutableArray *NameArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSString *alphaTemp = [[NSString alloc] init]; //loop all the rows returned by the query. while(sqlite3_step(selectStatement) == SQLITE_ROW) { NSString *currentAlpha = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(selectStatement, 1)]; NSString *definitionName = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(char *)sqlite3_column_text(selectStatement, 2)]; if (alphaTemp == nil){ alphaTemp = currentAlpha; } if ([alphaTemp isEqualToString:(NSString *)currentAlpha]) { [NameArray addObject:definitionName]; } else if (alphaTemp != (NSString *)currentAlpha) { [self.words setObject:NameArray forKey:currentAlpha]; [NameArray removeAllObjects]; [NameArray addObject:definitionName]; } } } The Statement above adds all the "keys" but then removes all the array elements for all keys. if I take out the removeAllKeys it adds ALL the array elements for ALL keys. I don't want this I want it to add the array elements FOR the specific key then move on to the next key. in the end I want a NSDictonary with A (array) Alpha (string) Apple (string) B (array) Beta (string) Ball (string) C (array) Code (string) ...

  • SQLITE crash when no data present in table

    - by johnblack45
    Hey, Im having a problem with my app that causes it to crash when no data is present in the table when using a table view. I have tested my code and it works fine as long as there is data present but i need it to work when there is no data present. -(void)initialiseTableData { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; sqlite3 *db = [iCaddyAppDelegate getNewDBConnection]; sqlite3_stmt *statement; const char *sql = "select courseId, courseName, totalPar, totalyardage, holePars, holeYardages, holeStrokeIndexs from Course"; if(sqlite3_prepare_v2(db, sql, -1, &statement, NULL)!= SQLITE_OK) { NSAssert1(0,@"Error preparing statement",sqlite3_errmsg(db)); sqlite3_close(db); } else { while (sqlite3_step(statement) == SQLITE_ROW) { Course *temp = [[Course alloc]init]; temp.courseId = sqlite3_column_int(statement,0); temp.courseName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%s",(char*)sqlite3_column_text(statement,1)]; temp.totalPar =sqlite3_column_int(statement,2); temp.totalYardage =sqlite3_column_int(statement,3); NSString tempHolePars = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%s",(char)sqlite3_column_text(statement,4)]; NSString tempHoleYardages = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%s",(char)sqlite3_column_text(statement,5)]; NSString tempHoleStrokeIndexes = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%s",(char)sqlite3_column_text(statement,6)]; NSArray *temp1 = [tempHolePars componentsSeparatedByString:@":"]; NSArray *temp2 = [tempHoleYardages componentsSeparatedByString:@":"]; NSArray *temp3 = [tempHoleStrokeIndexes componentsSeparatedByString:@":"]; for(int i = 0; i<=17; i++) { NSString *temp1String = [temp1 objectAtIndex:i]; [temp.holePars insertObject:temp1String atIndex:i]; NSString *temp2String = [temp2 objectAtIndex:i]; [temp.holeYardages insertObject:temp2String atIndex:i]; NSString *temp3String = [temp3 objectAtIndex:i]; [temp.holeStrokeIndexes insertObject:temp3String atIndex:i]; } [array addObject:temp]; } self.list = array; [self.table reloadData]; } }

  • Setting UITabBarItem title from UINavigationController?

    - by fuzzygoat
    I have setup a UITabBarController with two tabs, one is a simple UIViewController and the other is a UINavigationController using second UIViewController as its rootController to set up a UITableView. My question is with regard to naming the tabs (i.e. UITabBarItem) For the first tab (simple UIViewController) I have added the following (see below) to the controllers -init method. - (id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { UITabBarItem *tabBarItem = [self tabBarItem]; [tabBarItem setTitle:@"ONE"]; } return self; } For the other tab I have added (see below) to the second controllers init (rootController). - (id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { UITabBarItem *tabBarItem = [[self navigationController] tabBarItem]; [tabBarItem setTitle:@"TWO"]; } return self; } Am I setting the second tabBarItem title in the right place as currently it is not showing? EDIT: I can correctly set the UITabBarItem from within the AppDelegate when I first create the controllers, ready for adding to the UITabBarController. But I really wanted to do this in the individual controller -init methods for neatness. // UITabBarController UITabBarController *tempRoot = [[UITabBarController alloc] init]; [self setRootController:tempRoot]; [tempRoot release]; NSMutableArray *tabBarControllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // UIViewController ONE MapController *mapController = [[MapController alloc] init]; [tabBarControllers addObject:mapController]; [mapController release]; // UITableView TWO TableController *rootTableController = [[TableController alloc] init]; UINavigationController *tempNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:rootTableController]; [rootTableController release]; [tabBarControllers addObject:tempNavController]; [tempNavController release]; [rootController setViewControllers:tabBarControllers]; [tabBarControllers release]; [window addSubview:[rootController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible];

  • How to navigate to a UITableView position by the cell it's title using indexing

    - by BarryK88
    I'm using a UITableView filled with a around 200 cells containing a title, subtitle and thumbnail image. I want to a have a selection method just like within the contact App from Apple where you can select a character from the alphabet. I'm at the point where I've drawn the selection interface (A,B,C etc), and via it's delegate I'm retrieving the respective index and title (i.e: A = 1, B = 2, C = 3 etc.). Now I want to navigate to the first cell, where the first character of the cell it's title is starting with the selected index character. Just like the contacts App. Can someone give me a direction for how to implement such functionality. - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView sectionForSectionIndexTitle:(NSString *)title atIndex:(NSInteger)index I filled my sectionIndex by means of - (NSArray *)sectionIndexTitlesForTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { if(searching) return nil; NSMutableArray *tempArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [tempArray addObject:@"A"]; [tempArray addObject:@"B"]; [tempArray addObject:@"C"]; [tempArray addObject:@"D"]; [tempArray addObject:@"E"]; [tempArray addObject:@"F"]; [tempArray addObject:@"G"]; [tempArray addObject:@"H"]; [tempArray addObject:@"I"]; [tempArray addObject:@"J"]; [tempArray addObject:@"K"]; [tempArray addObject:@"L"]; [tempArray addObject:@"M"]; [tempArray addObject:@"N"]; [tempArray addObject:@"O"]; [tempArray addObject:@"P"]; [tempArray addObject:@"Q"]; [tempArray addObject:@"R"]; [tempArray addObject:@"S"]; [tempArray addObject:@"T"]; [tempArray addObject:@"U"]; [tempArray addObject:@"V"]; [tempArray addObject:@"W"]; [tempArray addObject:@"X"]; [tempArray addObject:@"Y"]; [tempArray addObject:@"Z"]; return tempArray; }

    I have a RegistrationController screen to store email-id ,password,DOB,Height,Weight and logininController screen to match email-id and password to log-in purpose. Now In some third screen I have to fetch only the Height,Weight from the plist of the logged-in user to display it on the label.now if I Store the values of email-id and password in from LoginViewController in string and call it in the new screen to match if matches then gives Height,Weight ..if it corrects then how to fetch Height,Weight from the plist of the same one. how can i fetch from the stored plist in a string... the code which i used to match in LoginController -(NSArray*)readFromPlist { NSArray *documentPaths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [documentPaths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *documentPlistPath = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"XYZ.plist"]; NSDictionary *dict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:documentPlistPath]; NSArray *valueArray = [dict objectForKey:@"title"]; return valueArray; } - (void)authenticateCredentials { NSMutableArray *plistArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:[self readFromPlist]]; for (int i = 0; i< [plistArray count]; i++) { id object = [plistArray objectAtIndex:i]; if ([object isKindOfClass:[NSDictionary class]]) { NSDictionary *objDict = (NSDictionary *)object; if ([[objDict objectForKey:@"pass"] isEqualToString:emailTextFeild.text] && [[objDict objectForKey:@"title"] isEqualToString:passwordTextFeild.text]) { NSLog(@"Correct credentials"); return; } NSLog(@"INCorrect credentials"); } else { NSLog(@"Error! • How to iterate & retrieve values from NSArray of NSArrays of NSDictionaries

    - by chinjazz
    I'm stumpped on how iterate and get values for an Array of Arrays of NSDictionaries (different classes/entities). Here's what I'm currently doing: 1) Constructing two separate arrays of NSDictionaries (different entities) 2) Combining both arrays with: NSMutableArray *combinedArrayofDicts = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects: sizesArrayOfDicts, wishListArrayOfDicts , nil]; 3) Then archive combinedArrayofDicts : NSData *dataToSend = [NSKeyedArchiver archivedDataWithRootObject:combinedArrayofDicts]; 4) Transmit over GameKit [self.session sendDataToAllPiers:dataToSend withDataMode: GKSendDataReliable error:nil]; 5) How would I manage traversing thru this array on the receiving end? I want to fetch values by for each class which is key'ed by classname: Here's how it looks via NSLog (2 Sizes Dicts, and 1 Wishlist Dict) Printing description of receivedArray: <__NSArrayM 0xbc65eb0>( <__NSArrayM 0xbc651f0>( { classname = Sizes; displayOrder = 0; share = 1; sizeType = Neck; value = "13\" or 33 (cm)"; }, { classname = Sizes; displayOrder = 0; share = 1; sizeType = Sleeve; value = "34\" or 86 (cm)"; } ) , <__NSArrayM 0xbc65e80>( { classname = Wishlist; detail = ""; displayOrder = 0; imageString = ""; latitude = "30.33216666666667"; link = "http://maps.google.com/maps?q=loc:30.332,-81.41"; longitude = "-81.40949999999999"; name = bass; share = 1; store = ""; } ) ) (lldb) In my for loop I'm issuing this: NSString *value = [dict objectForKey:@"classname"]; and get an exception: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[__NSArrayM objectForKey:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0xbc651f0' Is this frowned upon as far as mixing object types in arrays of arrays?

In the class I would like to load the URL, I have the following: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { _appdelegate.theheurl = currentURL; NSLog(@"%@", currentURL); NSLog(@"%@", _appdelegate.theheurl); [worship loadRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:currentURL cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData timeoutInterval:60.0]]; timer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:(1.0/2.0) target:self selector:@selector(tick) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; [super viewWillAppear:YES]; } However, both NSLogs in that class come back null. What am I Doing wrong in getting the NSURL from the AppDelegate to the class to load it?

  • Taming XCode's auto-complete options

    - by Nippysaurus
    I am fairly new to XCode and the Objective-C language. When I am instantiating a class, for example an NSMutableArray, XCode will provide a whole lot of auto-complete options. Even for an empty class which simply extends an NSObject has many options, most of which seem completely useless. What is the reason for having so many auto-complete options, or can they be "tamed" in the preferences?

  • Iphone SDK - adding UITableView to UIView

    - by Shashi
    Hi, I am trying to learn how to use different views, for this sample test app, i have a login page, upon successful logon, the user is redirected to a table view and then upon selection of an item in the table view, the user is directed to a third page showing details of the item. the first page works just fine, but the problem occurs when i go to the second page, the table shown doesn't have title and i cannot add title or toolbar or anything other than the content of the tables themselves. and when i click on the item, needless to say nothing happens. no errors as well. i am fairly new to programming and have always worked on Java but never on C(although i have some basic knowledge of C) and Objective C is new to me. Here is the code. import @interface NavigationTestAppDelegate : NSObject { UIWindow *window; UIViewController *viewController; IBOutlet UITextField *username; IBOutlet UITextField *password; IBOutlet UILabel *loginError; //UINavigationController *navigationController; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIViewController *viewController; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextField *username; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextField *password; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UILabel *loginError; -(IBAction) login; -(IBAction) hideKeyboard: (id) sender; @end import "NavigationTestAppDelegate.h" import "RootViewController.h" @implementation NavigationTestAppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize viewController; @synthesize username; @synthesize password; @synthesize loginError; pragma mark - pragma mark Application lifecycle -(IBAction) hideKeyboard: (id) sender{ [sender resignFirstResponder]; } (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { // Override point for customization after app launch //RootViewController *rootViewController = [[RootViewController alloc] init]; //[window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; [window addSubview:[viewController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } -(IBAction) login { RootViewController *rootViewController = [[RootViewController alloc] init]; //NSString *user = [[NSString alloc] username. if([username.text isEqualToString:@"test"]&&[password.text isEqualToString:@"test"]){ [window addSubview:[rootViewController view]]; //[window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; //rootViewController.awakeFromNib; } else { loginError.text = @"LOGIN ERROR"; [window addSubview:[viewController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } } (void)applicationWillTerminate:(UIApplication *)application { // Save data if appropriate } pragma mark - pragma mark Memory management (void)dealloc { //[navigationController release]; [viewController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end import @interface RootViewController : UITableViewController { IBOutlet NSMutableArray *views; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet NSMutableArray * views; @end // // RootViewController.m // NavigationTest // // Created by guest on 4/23/10. // Copyright MyCompanyName 2010. So after the method finished, the object got deallocated. I changed it to an instance variable instead and now it works. It gives a different error but that it an entirely different issue. Issue was: I have been struggling with trying to integrate the mwfeedparser library in my app for parsing RSS and ATOM feeds. It throws a gives EXC_BAD_ACCESS error which I can't seem to troubleshoot. //My Class looks like - My interface looks like: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import "MWFeedParser.h" #import "NSString+HTML.h" @protocol ParseCompleted <NSObject> -(void)parsedArray:(NSMutableArray *)parsedArray; @end @interface DoParsingStuff : NSObject<MWFeedParserDelegate> @property (nonatomic,strong) NSMutableArray *parsedItems; @property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *itemsToDisplay; @property (nonatomic,strong) MWFeedParser *feedParser; @property (nonatomic,strong) NSURL *feedurl; @property (nonatomic,strong) id <ParseCompleted> delegate; -(id)initWithFeedURL:(NSURL *)url; @end //And Implementaion: #import "DoParsingStuff.h" @implementation DoParsingStuff @synthesize parsedItems = _parsedItems; @synthesize itemsToDisplay = _itemsToDisplay; @synthesize feedParser = _feedParser; @synthesize feedurl=_feedurl; @synthesize delegate = _delegate; -(id)initWithFeedURL:(NSURL *)url{ if(self = [super init]){ _feedurl=url; _feedParser = [[MWFeedParser alloc] initWithFeedURL:_feedurl]; _feedParser.delegate=self; _feedParser.feedParseType=ParseTypeFull; _feedParser.connectionType=ConnectionTypeAsynchronously; } return self; } -(void)doParsing{ BOOL y = [_feedParser parse]; } # pragma mark - # pragma mark MWFeedParserDelegate - (void)feedParserDidStart:(MWFeedParser *)parser { //Just tells what url is being parsed e.g. http://www.wired.com/reviews/feeds/latestProductsRss NSLog(@"Started Parsing: %@", parser.url); } - (void)feedParser:(MWFeedParser *)parser didParseFeedInfo:(MWFeedInfo *)info { //What is the Feed about e.g. "Product Reviews" NSLog(@"Parsed Feed Info: “%@”", info.title); //self.title = info.title; } - (void)feedParser:(MWFeedParser *)parser didParseFeedItem:(MWFeedItem *)item { //Prints current element's title e.g. “An Arthropod for Your iDevices” NSLog(@"Parsed Feed Item: “%@”", item.title); if (item) [_parsedItems addObject:item]; } - (void)feedParserDidFinish:(MWFeedParser *)parser {//This is where you can do your own stuff with the parsed items NSLog(@"Finished Parsing%@", (parser.stopped ? @" (Stopped)" : @"")); [_delegate parsedArray:_parsedItems]; //[self updateTableWithParsedItems]; } - (void)feedParser:(MWFeedParser *)parser didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"Finished Parsing With Error: %@", error); if (_parsedItems.count == 0) { //self.title = @"Failed"; // Show failed message in title } else { // Failed but some items parsed, so show and inform of error UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Parsing Incomplete" message:@"There was an error during the parsing of this feed. Not all of the feed items could parsed." delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"Dismiss" otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; } //[self updateTableWithParsedItems]; } @end //I am calling this from my main viewcontroller as such: #import "DoParsingStuff.h" @interface ViewController : UIViewController <ParseCompleted> .... //And I have the following methods in my implementation: DoParsingStuff *parseThisUrl = [[DoParsingStuff alloc] initWithFeedURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.theverge.com/rss/index.xml"]]; parseThisUrl.delegate=self; [parseThisUrl doParsing]; I have the method defined here as- -(void)parsedArray:(NSMutableArray *)parsedArray{ NSLog(@"%@",parsedArray); } //I stepped through breakpoints- When I try to go through the breakpoints, I see that everything goes fine till the very last [parseThisUrl doParsing]; in my delegate class. After that it starts showing me memory registers where I get lost. I think it could be due to arc as I have disabled arc on the mwfeedparser files but am using arc in the above classes. If you need the entire project for this, let me know. I tried it with NSZombies enabled and got a bit more info out of it: -[DoParsingStuff respondsToSelector:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x6a52480 I am not using release/autorelease/retain etc. in this class...but it is being used in the mwfeedparser library.

  • Problem with entityForName & ManagedObjectContext when extending tutorial material

    - by Martin KS
    Afternoon all, I tried to add a second data entity to the persistent store in the (locations) coredata tutorial code, and then access this in a new view. I think that I've followed the tutorial, and checked that I'm doing a clean build etc, but can't see what to change to prevent it crashing. I'm afraid I'm at my wits end with this one, and can't seem to find the step that I've missed. I've pasted the header and code files below, please let me know if I need to share any more of the code. The crash seems to happen on the line: NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Album" inManagedObjectContext:[self managedObjectContext]]; There is one other line in the code that refers to galleryviewcontroller at the moment, and that's in the main application delegate: galleryViewController.managedObjectContext = [self managedObjectContext]; GalleryViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface GalleryViewController : UIViewController { NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; int rowNumber; IBOutlet UILabel *lblMessage; UIBarButtonItem *addButton; NSMutableArray *imagesArray; } @property (readwrite) int rowNumber; @property (nonatomic,retain) UILabel *lblMessage; @property (nonatomic,retain) NSMutableArray *imagesArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIBarButtonItem *addButton; -(void)updateRowNumber:(int)theIndex; -(void)addImage; @end GalleryViewController.m #import "RootViewController.h" #import "LocationsAppDelegate.h" #import "Album.h" #import "GalleryViewController.h" #import "Image.h" @implementation GalleryViewController @synthesize lblMessage,rowNumber,addButton,managedObjectContext; @synthesize imagesArray; /* // The designated initializer. • Why does my program crash when given negative values?

    - by Wayfarer
    Alright, I am very confused, so I hope you friends can help me out. I'm working on a project using Cocos2D, the most recent version (.99 RC 1). I make some player objects and some buttons to change the object's life. But the weird thing is, the code crashes when I try to change their life by -5. Or any negative value for that matter, besides -1. NSMutableArray *lifeButtons = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; CCTexture2D *buttonTexture = [[CCTextureCache sharedTextureCache] addImage:@"Button.png"]; LifeChangeButtons *button = nil; //top left button = [LifeChangeButtons lifeButton:buttonTexture ]; button.position = CGPointMake(50 , size.height - 30); [button buttonText:-5]; [lifeButtons addObject:button]; //top right button = [LifeChangeButtons lifeButton:buttonTexture ]; button.position = CGPointMake(size.width - 50 , size.height - 30); [button buttonText:1]; [lifeButtons addObject:button]; //bottom left button = [LifeChangeButtons lifeButton:buttonTexture ]; button.position = CGPointMake(50 , 30); [button buttonText:5]; [lifeButtons addObject:button]; //bottom right button = [LifeChangeButtons lifeButton:buttonTexture ]; button.position = CGPointMake(size.width - 50 , 30); [button buttonText:-1]; [lifeButtons addObject:button]; for (LifeChangeButtons *theButton in lifeButtons) { [self addChild:theButton]; } This is the code that makes the buttons. It simply makes 4 buttons, puts them in each corner of the screen (size is the screen) and adds their life change ability, 1,-1,5, or -5. It adds them to the array and then goes through the array at the end and adds all of them to the screen. This works fine. Here is my code for the button class: (header file) // // LifeChangeButtons.h // Coco2dTest2 // // Created by Ethan Mick on 3/14/10. // Copyright 2010 Wayfarer. All rights reserved. // #import "cocos2d.h" @interface LifeChangeButtons : CCSprite <CCTargetedTouchDelegate> { NSNumber *lifeChange; } @property (nonatomic, readonly) CGRect rect; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSNumber *lifeChange; + (id)lifeButton:(CCTexture2D *)texture; - (void)buttonText:(int)number; @end Implementation file: // // LifeChangeButtons.m // Coco2dTest2 // // Created by Ethan Mick on 3/14/10. // Copyright 2010 Wayfarer. All rights reserved. // #import "LifeChangeButtons.h" #import "cocos2d.h" #import "CustomCCNode.h" @implementation LifeChangeButtons @synthesize lifeChange; //Create the button +(id)lifeButton:(CCTexture2D *)texture { return [[[self alloc] initWithTexture:texture] autorelease]; } - (id)initWithTexture:(CCTexture2D *)atexture { if ((self = [super initWithTexture:atexture])) { //NSLog(@"wtf"); } return self; } //Set the text on the button - (void)buttonText:(int)number { lifeChange = [NSNumber numberWithInt:number]; NSString *text = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%d", number]; CCLabel *label = [CCLabel labelWithString:text fontName:@"Times New Roman" fontSize:20]; label.position = CGPointMake(35, 20); [self addChild:label]; } - (CGRect)rect { CGSize s = [self.texture contentSize]; return CGRectMake(-s.width / 2, -s.height / 2, s.width, s.height); } - (BOOL)containsTouchLocation:(UITouch *)touch { return CGRectContainsPoint(self.rect, [self convertTouchToNodeSpaceAR:touch]); } - (void)onEnter { [[CCTouchDispatcher sharedDispatcher] addTargetedDelegate:self priority:0 swallowsTouches:YES]; [super onEnter]; } - (void)onExit { [[CCTouchDispatcher sharedDispatcher] removeDelegate:self]; [super onExit]; } - (BOOL)ccTouchBegan:(UITouch *)touch withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { CGPoint touchPoint = [touch locationInView:[touch view]]; touchPoint = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] convertToGL:touchPoint]; if ( ![self containsTouchLocation:touch] ) return NO; NSLog(@"Button touch event was called returning yes. "); //this is where we change the life to each selected player NSLog(@"Test1"); NSMutableArray *tempArray = [[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] selectedPlayerObjects]; NSLog(@"Test2"); for (CustomCCNode *aPlayer in tempArray) { NSLog(@"we change the life by %d.", [lifeChange intValue]); [aPlayer changeLife:[lifeChange intValue]]; } NSLog(@"Test3"); return YES; } - (void)ccTouchMoved:(UITouch *)touch withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { CGPoint touchPoint = [touch locationInView:[touch view]]; touchPoint = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] convertToGL:touchPoint]; NSLog(@"You moved in a button!"); } - (void)ccTouchEnded:(UITouch *)touch withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { NSLog(@"You touched up in a button"); } @end Now, This function: - (BOOL)ccTouchBegan:(UITouch *)touch withEvent:(UIEvent *)event Is where all the shit goes down. It works for all of the buttons except the -5 one. And then, it gets to: NSLog(@"we change the life by %d.", [lifeChange integerValue]); And it crashes at that statement. It only crashes when given anything less than -1. -1 works, but nothing smaller does. Here is the code in the CustomCCNode Class, "changeLife" that is being called. - (void)changeLife:(int)lifeChange { NSLog(@"change life in Custom Class was called"); NSLog(@"wtf is lifechange: %d", lifeChange); life += lifeChange; lifeString = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%d",life]; [text setString:lifeString]; } Straight forward, but when the NSnumber is -5, it doesn't even get called, it crashes at the NSlog statement. So... what's up with that?

  • Copies of GameScene created when called additional times

    - by Orin MacGregor
    I have a game with a level select managed by a SceneManager, which basically just uses ReplaceScene. The first time I load a level everything works fine. On subsequent calls, for example: completing the level and continuing to the next, things blow up. The level loads fine, but when I try to pan the map or try to move the player the game crashes. Debugging through I found that there are multiple occurrences of self and related children like player and mapLayer. As a test, I put this code in my ccTouchesBegan: NSLog(@"test %i", [self retainCount]); The first time a level is loaded, it gives: test 2 The second time I load a level it gives: test 2 test 1 as in it spits out both values by looping through twice, not just appending an output to the last. It continues with this pattern for each subsequent load. So the third time will give 2 1 1. Particular code that causes the game to crash involve calling _tileMap.tileSize because there is a second GameScene with a tileMap that was supposedly destroyed, so it has tileSize and mapSize of 0. I noticed dealloc doesn't really ever get called, so I tried to manage some things with -(void) onExit -(void) onExit { [self unscheduleAllSelectors]; [_player stopAllActions]; //stop any animations just in case. normally handled in ccTouchesEnded [self removeAllChildrenWithCleanup:YES]; } I never replace the GameScene while I'm in a GameScene; if the level is completed it goes to a GameOver scene, or I use a back button that goes to the LevelSelect scene. This is [the relevant parts of] my init, in case something like the adding of children matters: -(id) init { _mapLayer = [CCLayer node]; //load data for level GameData *gameData = [GameDataParser loadData]; int selectedChapter = gameData.selectedChapter; int selectedLevel = gameData.selectedLevel; Levels *chapterLevels = [LevelParser loadLevelsForChapter:selectedChapter]; //loop until we get selected level, then do stuff for (Level *level in chapterLevels.levels) { if (level.number == selectedLevel) { //load the level map _tileMap = [CCTMXTiledMap tiledMapWithTMXFile:level.file]; } } _background = [_tileMap layerNamed:@"Background"]; _foreground = [_tileMap layerNamed:@"Foreground"]; _meta = [_tileMap layerNamed:@"Meta"]; _meta.visible = NO; //initialize Spawn Point object and place player there CCTMXObjectGroup *objects = [_tileMap objectGroupNamed:@"Objects"]; NSAssert(objects != nil, @"'Objects' object group not found"); NSMutableDictionary *spawnPoint = [objects objectNamed:@"SpawnPoint"]; NSAssert(spawnPoint != nil, @"SpawnPoint object not found"); int x = [[spawnPoint valueForKey:@"x"] intValue] / retinaScaling; int y = [[spawnPoint valueForKey:@"y"] intValue] / retinaScaling; //setup animations [[CCSpriteFrameCache sharedSpriteFrameCache] addSpriteFramesWithFile:@"MouseRightAnim_24x21.plist"]; CCSpriteBatchNode *spriteSheet = [CCSpriteBatchNode batchNodeWithFile:@"MouseRightAnim_24x21.png"]; [_mapLayer addChild:spriteSheet z:1]; NSMutableArray *rightAnimFrames = [NSMutableArray array]; for(int i = 1; i <= 3; ++i) { [rightAnimFrames addObject: [[CCSpriteFrameCache sharedSpriteFrameCache] spriteFrameByName: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"MouseRight%d_24x21.png", i]]]; } CCAnimation *rightAnim = [CCAnimation animationWithSpriteFrames:rightAnimFrames delay:0.1f]; self.player = [CCSprite spriteWithSpriteFrameName:@"MouseRight2_24x21.png"]; _player.position = ccp(x, y); self.rightAction = [CCRepeatForever actionWithAction:[CCAnimate actionWithAnimation:rightAnim]]; rightAnim.restoreOriginalFrame = NO; [spriteSheet addChild:_player]; //get map size in pixels mapHeight = _tileMap.contentSize.height; mapWidth = _tileMap.contentSize.width; //setup defaults //this value works well for the calculation later, trial and error really distance = 150; lastGoodDistance = 150; mapScale = 1; [self setViewpointCenter:_player.position]; [_mapLayer addChild:_tileMap]; [self addChild:_mapLayer z:-1]; self.isTouchEnabled = YES; } return self; } And here's the SceneManager code for replacing scenes: +(void) goGameScene { CCLayer *gameLayer = [GameScene node]; [SceneManager go:gameLayer:[GameHUD node]]; } //this is what every call looks like besides the GameScene one above +(void) goLevelSelect { [SceneManager go:[LevelSelect node]:nil]; } +(void) go:(CCLayer *)layer: (CCLayer *)hudLayer { CCDirector *director = [CCDirector sharedDirector]; CCScene *newScene = [SceneManager wrap:layer:hudLayer]; if ([director runningScene]) { [director replaceScene:newScene]; } else { [director runWithScene:newScene]; } } +(CCScene *) wrap:(CCLayer *)layer: (CCLayer *)hudLayer { CCScene *newScene = [CCScene node]; [newScene addChild: layer]; if (hudLayer != nil) { [newScene addChild: hudLayer z:1]; } return newScene; } Any ideas why I'm getting these fatal artifacts? I'm hoping this isn't considered too localized since it basically combines 3 tutorials that anyone could end up following. (Ray Wenderlich Animations, Tim Roadley Scene Manager, Pan and Zoom with Tiled Maps.

  • Problem with Rotating a UIScrollview

    - by leachianus.gecko
    Hey guys, I am having issues trying to get the pageControl sample code to work with rotation. I managed to get it to rotate but it does not visually loads correctly until I start to scroll (then it works fine). Any Idea on how I can fix this problem? Here is a link to the project if you want to see it in action. This code is based off the PageControl example apple has provided. here is the code: #import "ScrollingViewController.h" #import "MyViewController.h" @interface ScrollingViewController (PrivateMethods) - (void)loadScrollViewWithPage:(int)page; @end @implementation ScrollingViewController @synthesize scrollView; @synthesize viewControllers; - (void)viewDidLoad { amount = 5; [super viewDidLoad]; [self setupPage]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; } - (void)viewDidUnload { [scrollView release]; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } - (void)setupPage { NSMutableArray *controllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (unsigned i = 0; i < amount; i++) { [controllers addObject:[NSNull null]]; } self.viewControllers = controllers; [controllers release]; // a page is the width of the scroll view scrollView.pagingEnabled = YES; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width * amount, 200); scrollView.showsHorizontalScrollIndicator = NO; scrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = NO; scrollView.scrollsToTop = NO; scrollView.delegate = self; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:0]; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:1]; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark UIScrollViewDelegate stuff - (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)_scrollView { if (pageControlIsChangingPage) { return; } /* * We switch page at 50% across */ CGFloat pageWidth = _scrollView.frame.size.width; int dog = floor((_scrollView.contentOffset.x - pageWidth / 2) / pageWidth) + 1; // pageControl.currentPage = page; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:dog - 1]; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:dog]; [self loadScrollViewWithPage:dog + 1]; } - (void)loadScrollViewWithPage:(int)page { if (page < 0) return; if (page >= amount) return; MyViewController *controller = [viewControllers objectAtIndex:page]; if ((NSNull *)controller == [NSNull null]) { controller = [[MyViewController alloc] initWithPageNumber:page]; [viewControllers replaceObjectAtIndex:page withObject:controller]; [controller release]; } if (nil == controller.view.superview) { CGRect frame = scrollView.frame; frame.origin.x = frame.size.width * page; frame.origin.y = 0; controller.view.frame = frame; [scrollView addSubview:controller.view]; } } - (void)didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)fromInterfaceOrientation { [self setupPage]; } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { // Return YES for supported orientations return YES; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark PageControl stuff @end

  • Taming XCode’s auto-complete options

    - by Nippysaurus
    I am fairly new to XCode and the Objective-C language. When I am instantiating a class, for example an NSMutableArray, XCode will provide a whole lot of auto-complete options. Even for an empty class which simply extends an NSObject has many options, most of which seem completely useless. What is the reason for having so many auto-complete options, or can they be "tamed" in the preferences?
