  • Can't get NSTableView to display data.

    - by Alberto
    Hi! I see there are a lot of questions about this, but nothing helped me to get this work. I have a nib with a NSTableView with three columns (with the right identifiers set) and a class named ShortcutsTableController. In the nib I have a NSObject with class value ShortcutsTableController. I also connected the NSTableView to my controller as I usually do. This is header ShortcutsTableController.h. #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface ShortcutsTableController : NSObject <NSTableViewDataSource> { IBOutlet NSTableView *shortcutsTable; NSMutableArray *shortcutsList; } - (int) numberOfRowsInTableView: (NSTableView*) tableView; - (id)tableView:(NSTableView *)tableView objectValueForTableColumn:(NSTableColumn *)tableColumn row:(int)row; @property (assign) IBOutlet NSTableView *shortcutsTable; - (void)setUpTable; @end And this is the implementation file ShortcutsTableController.m. #import "ShortcutsTableController.h" @implementation ShortcutsTableController @synthesize shortcutsTable; - (void)setUpTable { shortcutsList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSDictionary *dict1 = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"blabla", @"nameColumn", @"Bla bla bla", @"shortcutColumn", @"Ribla", @"actionColumn", nil]; [shortcutsList addObject:dict1]; [shortcutsTable setDataSource:self]; [shortcutsTable reloadData]; } -(int) numberOfRowsInTableView: (NSTableView *) tableView { return [shortcutsList count]; } - (id)tableView:(NSTableView *)tableView objectValueForTableColumn:(NSTableColumn *)tableColumn row:(int)row { if (row != -1) return [[shortcutsList objectAtIndex:row] objectForKey:[tableColumn identifier]]; return nil; } @end But when i try to build nothing appears in the NSTableView. No errors, no warnings. Note that I call setUpTable from within the Delegate Class Method awakeFromNib. Is there something I am doing wrong? Thank you for you help. —Albé UPDATE. Added lines @property (assign) IBOutlet NSTableView *shortcutsTable; in header and @synthesize shortcutsTable; in implementation. Nothing changes. :(

  • Custom UITableViewCell won't redraw on setNeedsDisplay

    - by Andrew Portner
    I created a custom UITableViewCell class with a UIButton, a UIImage, and two UILabels. The button and the image are overlayed on top of each other, and only one is displayed at a time. The expected behavior is you touch on the button, the button disappears, and it displays the image. The UITableViewCells are set to be reused. Here's my code: Constructor: - (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewCellStyle)style reuseIdentifier:(NSString *)reuseIdentifier { if (self = [super initWithStyle:style reuseIdentifier:reuseIdentifier]) { unheartButton = [[UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom] retain]; unheartButton.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; unheartButton.frame = CGRectMake(10, 13, 20, 18); [unheartButton addTarget:self action:@selector(onButtonClick:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside]; [unheartButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"redheart.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] init]; imageView.frame = CGRectMake(12, 13, 16, 16); NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (int ndx = 1; ndx < 13; ndx++) { [array addObject:[UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"icon-loading-%d (dragged).tiff", ndx]]]; } imageView.animationImages = array; imageView.animationDuration = 1; imageView.hidden = YES; [array release]; [self.contentView addSubview:imageView]; [self.contentView addSubview:unheartButton]; return self; } } Button click: - (IBAction) onButtonClick: (id) sender { unheartButton.hidden = YES; imageView.hidden = NO; [imageView startAnimating]; [self setNeedsDisplay]; [self.contentView setNeedsDisplay]; [self.unheartButton setNeedsDisplay]; [self.imageView setNeedsDisplay]; } I'm calling setNeedsDisplay on everything, but nothing seems to happen. If I scroll off the screen and back up, the button is hidden and now the loading icon is shown, but this only happens after a scroll. I'm not sure what I need to do to get the cell to repaint.

  • iPhone UITableView populateing from connectionDidFinishLoading

    - by fourfour
    Hey all. I have been trying for hours to figure this out. I have some JSON from a NSURLConnection. This is working fine and I have parsed it into an array. But I can't seem to get the array out of the connectionDidFinishLoading method. I an am getting (null) in the UITableViewCell method. I am assuming this is a scope of retain issue, but I am so new to ObjC I am not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { [connection release]; NSString *responseString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:responseData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; [responseData release]; SBJSON *json = [[SBJSON alloc] init]; NSDictionary *results = [json objectWithString:responseString]; self.dataArray = [results objectForKey:@"data"]; NSMutableArray *tableArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:nil]; for (NSString *element in dataArray) { //NSLog(@"%@", [element objectForKey:@"name"]); NSString *tmpString = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[element objectForKey:@"name"]]; [tableArray addObject:tmpString]; } } - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } // Configure the cell. //cell.textLabel.text = [self.tableView objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; cell.textLabel.text = [self.tableArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; NSLog(@"%@", tableArray); return cell; }

  • how to generate an event

    - by user262325
    Hello everyone I created a subclass from UIView #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface MeeSelectDropDownView : UIView { UILabel *mainText; UIImage *bgImg; UIImageView *bgView; UIImageView *originView; NSMutableArray *labelArray; int selectedItem; BOOL inSelectTag; float _defaultHeight; } @property (nonatomic , retain) UIImage *bgImg; @property (nonatomic , retain) UIImageView *bgView; @property (nonatomic , retain) NSMutableArray *labelArray; @property (nonatomic , retain) UIImageView *originView; @property (nonatomic , retain) UILabel *mainText; @property (nonatomic , readonly) int selectedItem; - (void) setViewHeight:(float)aheight; -(void) showDropList; -(void) hiddenDropList; -(void) setStringByArray:(NSArray*)array; -(void)hiddenLabels { for(UILabel *aLabel in labelArray){ [aLabel removeFromSuperview]; } } Is it possible to generate an Event from function 'hiddenLabels' to inform and do somethings Thanks interdev

  • cannot convert 'b2PolygonShape' to 'objc_object*' in argument passing

    - by GONeale
    Hey there, I am not sure if many of you are familiar with the box2d physics engine, but I am using it within cocos2d and objective c. This more or less could be a general objective-c question though, I am performing this: NSMutableArray *allShapes = [[NSMutableArray array] retain]; b2PolygonShape shape; .. .. [allShapes addObject:shape]; and receiving this error on the addObject definition on build: cannot convert 'b2PolygonShape' to 'objc_object*' in argument passing So more or less I guess I want to know how to add a b2PolygonShape to a mutable array. b2PolygonShape appears to just be a class, not a struct or anything like that. The closest thing I could find on google to which I think could do this is described as 'encapsulating the b2PolygonShape as an NSObject and then add that to the array', but not sure the best way to do this, however I would have thought this object should add using addObject, as some of my other instantiated class objects add to arrays fine. Is this all because b2PolygonShape does not inherit NSObject at it's root? Thanks

  • iOS5: Confusion with loadview and init and instance variables

    - by user743550
    I'm new to iOS5 and storyboarding. I noticed that if I declare an instance variables inside my viewcontroller .h file and set the values inside my init of .m file of my viewcontroller, whe the view of the viewcontroller is displayed, my instance variables show null inside viewDidLoad. In order for me to get myvariables, I'd need to do [self init] inside viewDidLoad. My questions are: @interface tableViewController : UITableViewController { NSMutableArray *myvariable; } @end @implementation tableViewController -(id)init { myvariable = [[NSMutableArray alloc]initWithObjects:@"Hi2",@"Yo2",@"whatsup2", nil]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { NSLog(@"%@",myvariable); // DISPLAYS NULL [super viewDidLoad]; } Why isn't my variables available in viewdidLoad when I declared and implemented in my .h and .m files? If that's the case, is viewDidLoad or viewWillAppear the common places to load the data for the viewcontroller? It looks like even if you instantiate a viewcontroller, the init function gets called but the viewDidLoad doesn't necessarily have the variables to be displayed. Where's the right place/methods to load the model(data) for my viewcontroller? Thanks in advance

  • iPhone:How to make an integer array and store values in Obj-C?

    - by user187532
    Hi, I want to know a simple thing, which i couldn't get it is that i want to store 10 values in an integer array dynamically and then i have to check that stored values and compared with the current values whether it is same or not in some other condition. Initially i tried same like C array, int temp[10], but seems to be that is not possible to set and get method, then i tried NSNumber like below, In AppDelagate file, NSMutableArray *reqID; @property (nonatomic,readwrite) NSMutableArray * reqID; @synthesize reqID; ........................ ........................ ........................ In Some other file, int rd = (1+arc4random() % [arr count]); [myDelagate.reqID addObject:[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInteger:rd]]; then i need to check, for (int i=0; i<10; i++) { NSUInteger anInt = [[amyDelagate.reqID objectAtIndex:i] unsignedIntegerValue]; if ( anInt==rd ) { rd = (1+arc4random() % [arr count]); break; } } [myDelagate.reqID addObject:[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInteger:rd]]; But it doesn' work as expected, i.e array value doesn't give proper value. i don't know how to use integer array in Obj-C and handle it to access later etc. Could someone please explian me?

  • iPhone app doesn't build crash reports

    - by BankStrong
    My app formerly created useful crash logs. I synced my iPhone in the past and found crash logs in library/logs/CrashReporter About a month ago, my app stopped creating crash reports. When I first discovered this problem, I assumed it was due to memory corruption (a possibility in my app). I just created a new project and added a crash to it. // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, // typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array removeObjectAtIndex:-1]; [super viewDidLoad]; } This app does not create a crash report either. Ideas I've started to explore: My phone is corrupted (tried restoring - somehow I brought it to the state from a few months ago) My XCode is corrupt (tried reinstalling, but current download demands Snow Leopard - and I can't upgrade to Snow Leopard online). This seems possible - I may have messed with device support around a month ago (similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1224867/does-iphone-os-3-0-1-ruin-your-development-phone ) The location for crash logs has somehow moved. Suggestions?

  • NSOperationQueue bug with dependencies

    - by Daniel
    I am using NSOperation and NSOperationQueue for performing a sequence of operations, all dependent on each other (2 on 1, 3 on 2, etc...). I set the dependency after I create the operations. I am encountering problems when the queue completes: the program crashes in the _release part of the code, apparently when the NSOperations are getting released. Note that they all get released at the end by the queue, because it is only after the very last one which depends on the second last one, which depends on etc... that they can be released. If I remove any dependency, the code runs fine. If I change waitUntilFinished: to NO, it crashes, if it is YES, it does not. I have isolated the problem to the following code which does not use any of my custom classes. NSOperation by default is a class that does absolutely nothing. Yet, this still crashes when all operations have completed. Therefore, it appears I am not using NSOperationQueue properly but can't see what is wrong. I am running on 10.9 and I have noticed that in general Maverick 10.9 is much more sensitive to these issues than 10.8. I call this method from the main Thread with a Menu item: - (void) testOperations:(id)object { NSOperationQueue* queue = [ [ NSOperationQueue alloc ] init ]; NSMutableArray* array = [ NSMutableArray array ]; for ( int i = 0; i < 10000; i++) [ array addObject: [[[ NSOperation alloc ] init ] autorelease ] ]; for ( int i = 1; i < [ array count ]; i++) [[ array objectAtIndex:i ] addDependency:[array objectAtIndex:i-1]]; // remove this and no crash [ queue addOperations: array waitUntilFinished:NO ]; // Change to YES, no crash [ queue autorelease ]; // or release, it does not make a difference, in fact leaking the memory makes no difference: the code crashes when the queue is removing the NSOperations } This will crash every single time with: bool objc::DenseMapBase , objc_object*, unsigned long, objc::DenseMapInfo, true: (EXC_BAD_ACCESS) The full stack is: #0 0x9104d81b in objc::DenseMapBase<objc::DenseMap<objc_object*, unsigned long, true, objc::DenseMapInfo<objc_object*> >, • realloc() & ARC

    - by RynoB
    How would I be able to rewrite the the following utility class to get all the class string values for a specific type - using the objective-c runtime functions as shown below? The ARC documentation specifically states that realloc should be avoided and I also get the following compiler error on this this line: classList = realloc(classList, sizeof(Class) * numClasses); "Implicit conversion of a non-Objective-C pointer type 'void *' to '__unsafe_unretained Class *' is disallowed with ARC" The the below code is a reference to the original article which can be found here. + (NSArray *)classStringsForClassesOfType:(Class)filterType { int numClasses = 0, newNumClasses = objc_getClassList(NULL, 0); Class *classList = NULL; while (numClasses < newNumClasses) { numClasses = newNumClasses; classList = realloc(classList, sizeof(Class) * numClasses); newNumClasses = objc_getClassList(classList, numClasses); } NSMutableArray *classesArray = [NSMutableArray array]; for (int i = 0; i < numClasses; i++) { Class superClass = classList[i]; do { superClass = class_getSuperclass(superClass); if (superClass == filterType) { [classesArray addObject:NSStringFromClass(classList[i])]; break; } } while (superClass); } free(classList); return classesArray; } Your help will be much appreciated. • UITableView and SearchBar problem

    - by dododedodonl
    Hi all, I'm trying to add a Search bar to my UITableView. I followed this tutorial: http://clingingtoideas.blogspot.com/2010/02/uitableview-how-to-part-2-search.html. I'm getting this error if I type a letter in the search box: Rooster(10787,0xa05ed4e0) malloc: *** error for object 0x3b5f160: double free *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug. This error occurs here: - (BOOL)searchDisplayController:(UISearchDisplayController *)controller shouldReloadTableForSearchString:(NSString *)searchString { [self handleSearchForTerm:searchString]; return YES; } (on the second line) - (void)handleSearchForTerm:(NSString *)searchTerm { [self setSavedSearchTerm:searchTerm]; if ([self searchResults] == nil) { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [self setSearchResults:array]; [array release]; } //Empty the searchResults array [[self searchResults] removeAllObjects]; //Check if the searchTerm doesn't equal zero... if ([[self savedSearchTerm] length] != 0) { //Search the whole tableList (datasource) for (NSString *currentString in tableList) { NSString *klasString = [[NSString alloc] init]; NSInteger i = [[leerlingNaarKlasList objectAtIndex:[tableList indexOfObject:currentString]] integerValue]; if(i != -1) { klasString = [klassenList objectAtIndex:(i - 1)]; } //Check if the string matched or the klas (group of school) if ([currentString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound || [klasString rangeOfString:searchTerm options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch].location != NSNotFound) { //Add to results [[self searchResults] addObject:currentString]; //Save the klas (group of school). • iPhone: Get indexPath of Predicate Object

    - by Nic Hubbard
    I am using a predicate to find an object in core data. I can successfully find the object that I want, but I need to also get the indexPath of that object, so that I can push a details view in for that object. Currently I have the following code for getting my object: NSFetchRequest *fetchRequest = [[NSFetchRequest alloc] init]; [fetchRequest setEntity:[NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Ride" inManagedObjectContext:self.managedObjectContext]]; NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"title = %@ AND addressFull = %@", view.annotation.title, view.annotation.subtitle]; [fetchRequest setPredicate:predicate]; NSMutableArray *sortDescriptors = [NSMutableArray array]; [sortDescriptors addObject:[[[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"title" ascending:YES] autorelease]]; [sortDescriptors addObject:[[[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"addressFull" ascending:YES] autorelease]]; [fetchRequest setSortDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; [fetchRequest setReturnsObjectsAsFaults:NO]; [fetchRequest setPropertiesToFetch:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"title", @"addressFull", nil]]; NSError *error = nil; NSArray *fetchedItems = [self.managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest error:&error]; // Sohow what record we returned NSLog(@"%@",[fetchedItems objectAtIndex:0]); So, I can correctly get my object into an array. But how do I translate that object into an indexPath?

  • NSTableView binding problem

    - by Niklas Ottosson
    I have only just started with XCode (v3.2.2) and Interface Builder and have run into a problem. Here is what I have done: I have made a class to be the datasource of a NSTableView: @interface TimeObjectsDS : NSControl { IBOutlet NSTableView * idTableView; NSMutableArray * timeObjects; } @property (assign) NSMutableArray * timeObjects; @property (assign) NSTableView * idTableView; - (id) init; - (void) dealloc; - (void) addTimeObject: (TimeObj *)timeObject; - (int) count; // NSTableViewDataSource Protocol functions - (int)numberOfRowsInTableView:(NSTableView *)tableView; - (id)tableView:(NSTableView *)tableView objectValueForTableColumn:(NSTableColumn *)tableColumn row: (int)row; I have then bound my NSTableView in the View to this datasource like so: I have also bound the View NSTableView to the Model idTableView variable in Interface Builder seen above In the init function I add a element to the mutable array. This is displayed correctly in the NSTableView when I run the application. However when I add another element to the array (of same type as in init) and try to call [idTableView reloadData] on the View nothing happens. In fact the Model idTableView is null. When printing the variable with NSLog(@"idTableView: %@", idTableView) I get "idTableView: (null)" Im runing out of ideas how to fix this. Any ideas to what I could do to fix the binding?

  • iPhone app stopped building crash reports

  • ObjC: Alloc instance of Class and performing selectors on it leads to __CFRequireConcreteImplementat

    - by Arakyd
    Hi, I'm new to Objective-C and I'd like to abstract my database access using a model class like this: @interface LectureModel : NSMutableDictionary { } -(NSString*)title; -(NSDate*)begin; ... @end I use the dictionary methods setValue:forKey: to store attributes and return these in the getters. Now I want to read these models from a sqlite database by using the Class dynamically. + (NSArray*)findBySQL:(NSString*)sql intoModelClass:(Class)modelClass { NSMutableArray* models = [[[NSMutableArray alloc] init] autorelease]; sqlite3* db = sqlite3_open(...); sqlite3_stmt* result = NULL; sqlite3_prepare_v2(db, [sql UTF8String], -1, &result, NULL); while(sqlite3_step(result) == SQLITE_ROW) { id modelInstance = [[modelClass alloc] init]; for (int i = 0; i < sqlite3_column_count(result); ++i) { NSString* key = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:sqlite3_column_name(result, i)]; NSString* value = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:(const char*)sqlite3_column_text(result, i)]; if([modelInstance respondsToSelector:@selector(setValue:forKey:)]) [modelInstance setValue:value forKey:key]; } [models addObject:modelInstance]; } sqlite3_finalize(result); sqlite3_close(db); return models; } Funny thing is, the respondsToSelector: works, but if I try (in the debugger) to step over [modelInstance setValue:value forKey:key], it will throw an exception, and the stacktrace looks like: #0 0x302ac924 in ___TERMINATING_DUE_TO_UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION___ #1 0x991d9509 in objc_exception_throw #2 0x302d6e4d in __CFRequireConcreteImplementation #3 0x00024d92 in +[DBManager findBySQL:intoModelClass:] at DBManager.m:114 #4 0x0001ea86 in -[FavoritesViewController initializeTableData:] at FavoritesViewController.m:423 #5 0x0001ee41 in -[FavoritesViewController initializeTableData] at FavoritesViewController.m:540 #6 0x305359da in __NSFireDelayedPerform #7 0x302454a0 in CFRunLoopRunSpecific #8 0x30244628 in CFRunLoopRunInMode #9 0x32044c31 in GSEventRunModal #10 0x32044cf6 in GSEventRun #11 0x309021ee in UIApplicationMain #12 0x00002988 in main at main.m:14 So, what's wrong with this?   • NSKeyedArchiver on NSArray has large size overhead

    - by redguy
    I'm using NSKeyedArchiver in Mac OS X program which generates data for iPhone application. I found out that by default, resulting archives are much bigger than I expected. Example: NSMutableArray * ar = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:10]; for (int i = 0; i < 100000; i++) { NSString * s = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"item%06d", i]; [ar addObject:s]; } [NSKeyedArchiver archiveRootObject:ar toFile: @"NSKeyedArchiver.test"]; This stores 10 * 100000 = 1M bytes of useful data, yet the size of the resulting file is almost three megabytes. The overhead seems to be growing with number of items in the array. In this case, for 1000 items, the file was about 22k. "file" reports that it is a "Apple binary property list" (not the XML format). Is there an simple way to prevent this huge overhead? I wanted to use the NSKeyedArchiver for the simplicity it provides. I can write data to my own, non-generic, binary format, but that's not very elegant. Also, aggregating the data into large chunks and feeding these to the NSKeyedArchiver should work, but again, that kinda beats the point of using simple&easy&ready to use archiver. Am I missing some method call or usage pattern that would reduce this overhead?

  • Debugging NSoperation BAD ACCESS within graphics context

    - by Joe
    I tried everything to debug this one but I can't get to the bottom of it. This code lives in a subclass of NSOperation which is processed from a queue: (borders is an ivar NSArray containing 5 UIimage objects) NSMutableArray *images = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (unsigned i = 0; i < 5; i++) { CGSize size = CGSizeMake(60, 60); UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(size); CGPoint thumbPoint = CGPointMake(6, 6); [controller.image drawAtPoint:thumbPoint]; CGPoint borderPoint = CGPointMake(0, 0); [[borders objectAtIndex:i] drawAtPoint:borderPoint]; [images addObject:UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext()]; UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); } [images release]; The code works fine most of the time but when I push the iphone by access subviews and pressing lots of buttons on the UI I either get this exception which is trapped by the operation: Exception Load view: *** -[NSCFArray insertObject:atIndex:]: attempt to insert nil or I get this: Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. The exception is caused because UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext() return nil. I don't know how to debug the EXC_BAD_ACCESS but I'm guessing that this error (in fact both of these errors) is caused by low memory. The debugger stops at the line: [controller.image drawAtPoint:thumbPoint]; As I mentioned I've trapped the exception so I can live with that but the EXC_BAD_ACCESS is more serious. IF this is memory related how can I tell and is it possible to increase the memory available to NSOperation?

  • iPhone SDK: loading UITableView from SQLite

    - by leon
    Hi, I think I got a good handle on UITableViews and on getting/inserting data from/to SQLite db. I am straggling with an architectural question. My application saves 3 values int the database, there can be many/many rows. However would I load them in the table? From all the tutorials I have seen, at one point entire database is loaded in the NSMutableArray or similar object via performing SELECT statement. Then when -(UITableViewCell *) tableView: (UITableView *) tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath: (NSIndexPath *) indexPath called, rows required are dolled out from the previous loaded NSMutableArray (or similar stracture). But what i have have thousands for rows? Why would I pre-load them? Should I just query database each time cellForRowAtIndexPath is called? If so, what would I use as an index? Each row in the table will have an AUTOINCREMENT index, but since some rows may be deleted index will not correspond to rows in the table (in the SQL I may have something like this with row with index 3 missing): 1 Data1 Data1 2 Data2 Data2 4. data3 data3 Thanks

  • Objective-C Simple Inheritance and OO Principles

    - by bleeckerj
    I have a subclass SubClass that inherits from baseclass BaseClass. BaseClass has an initializer, like so: -(id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { [self commonInit]; } return self; } -(void)commonInit { self.goodStuff = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; } SubClass does its initializer, like so: -(id)init { self = [super init]; if(self) { [self commonInit]; } return self; } -(void)commonInit { self.extraGoodStuff = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; } Now, I've *never taken a proper Objective-C course, but I'm a programmer more from the Electrical Engineering side, so I make do. I've developed server-side applications mostly in Java though, so I may be seeing the OO world through Java principles. When SubClass is initialized, it calls the BaseClass init and my expectation would be — because inheritance to me implies that characteristics of a BaseClass pass through to SubClass — that the commonInit method in BaseClass would be called during BaseClass init. It is not. I can *sorta understand maybe-possibly-stretch-my-imagination why it wouldn't be. But, then — why wouldn't it be based on the principles of OOP? What does "self" represent if not the instance of the class of the running code? Okay, so — I'm not going to argue that what a well-developed edition of Objective-C is doing is wrong. So, then — what is the pattern I should be using in this case? I want SubClass to have two main bits — the goodStuff that BaseClass has as well as the extraGoodStuff that it deserves as well. Clearly, I've been using the wrong pattern in this type of situation. Am I meant to expose commonInit (which makes me wonder about encapsulation principles — why expose something that, in the Java world at least, would be considered "protected" and something that should only ever be called once for each instance)? I've run into a similar problem in the recent past and tried to muddle through it, but now — I'm really wondering if I've got my principles and concepts all straight in my head. Little help, please.

  • Referencing an Array with Objects in iPhone SDK

    - by user298261
    Hello! I was able to deduce my issue: I'm having problem referencing a string with an object within an array. Here's the code: -(IBAction)checkWord:(id)sender { NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array addObject:@"BIKE"]; NSString *dudeMan = theWord; if([array containsObject:dudeMan]) { NSLog(@"Awesome!"); } "theWord" is a String object that has been concatenated from 4 letters. It spells "BIKE", and I know this from a NSLog routine further up my code. However, for some reason, even though it spells BIKE, it will not reference correctly with the object within the array. if I change the code to: NSString *dudeMan = @"BIKE"; then the code will work. If it is phrased as: NSString *dudeMan = theWord; Where 'theWord' is BIKE, then the program won't work. Any ideas? Thank you for your help!

  • [Cocoa] Can't find leak in my code.

    - by ryyst
    Hi, I've been spending the last few hours trying to find the memory leak in my code. Here it is: NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; expression = [expression stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet: [NSCharacterSet whitespaceAndNewlineCharacterSet]]; // expression is an NSString object. NSArray *arguments = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:expression, [@"~/Desktop/file.txt" stringByExpandingTildeInPath], @"-n", @"--line-number", nil]; NSPipe *outPipe = [[NSPipe alloc] init]; NSTask *task = [[NSTask alloc] init]; [task setLaunchPath:@"/usr/bin/grep"]; [task setArguments:arguments]; [task setStandardOutput:outPipe]; [outPipe release]; [task launch]; NSData *data = [[outPipe fileHandleForReading] readDataToEndOfFile]; [task waitUntilExit]; [task release]; NSString *string = [[NSString alloc] initWithBytes:[data bytes] length:[data length] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; string = [string stringByReplacingOccurrencesOfString:@"\r" withString:@""]; int linesNum = 0; NSMutableArray *possibleMatches = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; if ([string length] > 0) { NSArray *lines = [string componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"]; linesNum = [lines count]; for (int i = 0; i < [lines count]; i++) { NSString *currentLine = [lines objectAtIndex:i]; NSArray *values = [currentLine componentsSeparatedByString:@"\t"]; if ([values count] == 20) [possibleMatches addObject:currentLine]; } } [string release]; [pool release]; return [possibleMatches autorelease]; I tried to follow the few basic rules of Cocoa memory management, but somehow there still seems to be a leak, I believe it's an array that's leaking. It's noticeable if possibleMatches is large. You can try the code by using any large file as "~/Desktop/file.txt" and as expression something that yields many results when grep-ing. What's the mistake I'm making? Thanks for any help! -- Ry

  • NSString to NSURL objects

    - by user337844
    Hello, I have an array that I populated with my plist file, which looks something like this: <array> <string>http://www.apple.com</string> <string>http://www.google.com</string> <string>http://www.amazon.com</string> </array> So, I'm looking to convert these NSString objects to NSURL objects when I call them in my didSelectRowAtIndexPath method. Any ideas? This is what I have right now: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSInteger row = [indexPath row]; if (self.viewController == nil) { TemplateViewController *details = [[TemplateViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TemplateViewController" bundle:nil]; self.viewController = details; [details release]; } NSString *tempURLString = [tieroneurlArray objectAtIndex:row]; NSURL *loadingUrl = [NSURL URLWithString:tempURLString]; [tieroneurlArray addObject:loadingUrl]; viewController.title = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", [tieroneArray objectAtIndex:row]]; [self.viewController setTableURL:[tieroneurlArray objectAtIndex:row]]; TemplateAppAppDelegate *delegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [delegate.templateNavController pushViewController:viewController animated:YES]; } And this is how I load the array with the plist: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tier1Names" ofType:@"plist"]; tieroneArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; NSString *tableURL = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tier1URL" ofType:@"plist"]; tieroneurlArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:tableURL]; }

  • Static variable for communication among like-typed objects

    - by Dan Ray
    I have a method that asynchronously downloads images. If the images are related to an array of objects (a common use-case in the app I'm building), I want to cache them. The idea is, I pass in an index number (based on the indexPath.row of the table I'm making by way through), and I stash the image in a static NSMutableArray, keyed on the row of the table I'm dealing with. Thusly: @implementation ImageDownloader ... @synthesize cacheIndex; static NSMutableArray *imageCache; -(void)startDownloadWithImageView:(UIImageView *)imageView andImageURL:(NSURL *)url withCacheIndex:(NSInteger)index { self.theImageView = imageView; self.cacheIndex = index; NSLog(@"Called to download %@ for imageview %@", url, self.theImageView); if ([imageCache objectAtIndex:index]) { NSLog(@"We have this image cached--using that instead"); self.theImageView.image = [imageCache objectAtIndex:index]; return; } self.activeDownload = [NSMutableData data]; NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:[NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url] delegate:self]; self.imageConnection = conn; [conn release]; } //build up the incoming data in self.activeDownload with calls to didReceiveData... - (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { NSLog(@"Finished downloading."); UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithData:self.activeDownload]; self.theImageView.image = image; NSLog(@"Caching %@ for %d", self.theImageView.image, self.cacheIndex); [imageCache insertObject:image atIndex:self.cacheIndex]; NSLog(@"Cache now has %d items", [imageCache count]); [image release]; } My index is getting through okay, I can see that by my NSLog output. But even after my insertObject: atIndex: call, [imageCache count] never leaves zero. This is my first foray into static variables, so I presume I'm doing something wrong. (The above code is heavily pruned to show only the main thing of what's going on, so bear that in mind as you look at it.)

  • Using objective-c objects with an NSDictionary

    - by Mark
    I want store a URL against a UILabel so that when a user touches the label it takes them to that URL in a UIWebView. I have declared a NSDictionary like so: NSMutableArray *linksArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [linksArray addObject: [NSValue valueWithNonretainedObject: newsItem1ReadMoreLabel]]; [linksArray addObject: [NSValue valueWithNonretainedObject: newsItem2ReadMoreLabel]]; [linksArray addObject: [NSValue valueWithNonretainedObject: newsItem3ReadMoreLabel]]; [linksArray addObject: [NSValue valueWithNonretainedObject: newsItem4ReadMoreLabel]]; [linksArray addObject: [NSValue valueWithNonretainedObject: newsItem5ReadMoreLabel]]; //NSString *ageLink = @"http://www.theage.com.au"; NSArray *defaultLinks = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: @"1", @"2", @"3", @"4", @"5", nil]; self.urlToLinkDictionary = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; self.urlToLinkDictionary = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjects:defaultLinks forKeys:linksArray]; Considering I used a NSValue as the key, how do I get/set the URL associated with that key given that I only have references to the UILabels? this is what I have but it doesn't work: for(NSValue *key in [self.urlToLinkDictionary allKeys]) { if ([key nonretainedObjectValue] == linkedLabel) { [self.urlToLinkDictionary setValue:[newsItem link] forKey: key]; } } but I get an error: "objc_exception_throw" resolved

  • iphone - gesture not working on animated view

    - by Mike
    I have this animated view and a gesture assigned to it... [self.view setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; UIImageView *sequence = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"frame0.png"]]; [sequence setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; sequence.center = CGPointMake(centroX, centroY); NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init] ; for (int i=0; i<30; i++) { UIImage *oneImage = [UIImage imageNamed:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"frame%d.png",i]]; [array addObject:oneImage]; } sequence.animationImages = array; sequence.animationDuration = 1.0; sequence.animationRepeatCount = 1; [self.view addSubview:sequence]; [sequence release]; sequence.startAnimating; sequence.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"frame29.png"]; // doSomething never runs when I tap the image... why? UITapGestureRecognizer *singleTap = [[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(doSomething)]; [singleTap setDelegate:self]; [singleTap setCancelsTouchesInView:NO]; [singleTap setDelaysTouchesEnded:NO]; [sequence addGestureRecognizer:singleTap]; [singleTap release]; The gesture is never called... why? I have no other gesture associated anywhere. thanks for any help.
