• Intel AVX intrinsics: any compatibility library out?

  Are there any Intel AVX intrinsics library out? I'm looking for something similar as 'sse2mmx.h' header which fall-backs to MMX intrinsics if SSE2 integer intrinsics are not available on compile time. Thus if I had similar library for AVX I could write optimized code for new hardware which would have almost optimal speed in case AVX extension isn't available. Googling didn't help much so far :(

• relational type operation on key value storage

  in my objects table i have id | type | parent | order | created and then in my data table i have object_id | key | value i want to get object of type 'x' where key 'y' === 'z' in the most optimal way possible. ie. get user where slug === 'jonny' i'm currently doing it with joins, because i'm doing this in mysql as a quick test. but i'll be moving to redis or a similar key/value storage system so obviously that won't work.

  I believe conversion exactly to BigInteger[] would be optimal in my case. Anyone had done or found this written in Java and willing to share? So imagine I have arbitrary size byte[] = {0xff,0x3e,0x12,0x45,0x1d,0x11,0x2a,0x80,0x81,0x45,0x1d,0x11,0x2a,0x80,0x81} How do I convert it to array of BigInteger's and then be able to recover it back the original byte array safely? ty in advance.

• Is a display list best for this? (OpenGL)

  I'm rendering 2D polygons with the GLUTesselator the first time, then they are stored in a display list for subsequent use. I think VBO's might be faster, but since I can't access the stuff that the tesselator outputs, and since it uses mixes of gl_triangle, quad, strip etc, i'm not sure how I could do this, even though I would like to use VBO's once the GLUTesselator is done with them for optimal performance.   playaudio() dies because there's no /dev/dsp. None of the outputs from saveaudio() in various formats seem to be playable in QuickTime or VLC. Ideal of course would be something like playaudio(), saving a file and playing it is a work-around that's hideously sub-optimal, but better than nothing.
