• issues using facebook iphone api to post image and text

  I have been trying to use the facebook iphone api to publish an image and some text from my app (i.e. using FBRequest call:@"facebook.stream.publish" with the appropriate params. I've found that the behavior is extremely erratic, as it first worked fine when I implemented it, then, completely stopped working (the request would fail and nothing would show up), and now sometimes posts only the text and most of the time posts only the image in a gallery style (returning a failure). I've read that it's something broken on Facebook's side, however, I see other people's games posting things periodically with images and text and wonder if I might be doing something fundamentally different that is much less reliable or stable. Has anyone encountered such an issue or has more familiarity with this?

• F# script to application

  I have written two small scripts, First one maintains a dictionary of current stock prices for a set of securities. I am using recursion to listen to a named pipe. Whenever there is something available on the name pipe, it updates the security price and goes right back and start listening to the pipe. The second one periodically reads the stock price of some security from the price cache of the first program and performs come calculation. But I have no idea how to make these two programs communicate. I somehow need to make my second programs start the first program and let it run in the background and get the price whenever it needs it. Can someone point me in the right direction? • How to interrupt a waiting C++0x thread?

  I'm considering to use C++0x threads in my application instead of Boost threads. However, I'm not sure how to reimplement what I have with standard C++0x threads since they don't seem to have an interrupt() method. My current setup is: a master thread that manages work; several worker threads that carry out master's commands. Workers call wait() on at least two different condition variables. Master has a "timed out" state: in this case it tells all workers to stop and give whatever result they got by then. With Boost threads master just uses interrupt_all() on a thread group, which causes workers to stop waiting. In case they are not waiting at the moment, master also sets a bool flag which workers check periodically. However, in C++0x std::thread I don't see any replacement for interrupt(). Do I miss something? If not, how can I implement the above scheme so that workers cannot just sleep forever?

• SSPI Errors for SQL Server Authentication?!

  We have several old ASP and PHP web applications which use SQL Server Authentication. Periodically, all the applications lose the ability to connect to our SQL Server 2000 database server, getting access denied. Corresponding to roughly the same times, we are getting 1115 Cannot generate SSPI Context SQLSTATE HY000 errors on the SQLServer 2000 server. And here's the weird part - rebooting the web server fixes the problem. Rebooting the database server has no effect. This makes no sense to me - I didn't think SSPI was in any way involved with SQL Server Authentication. Any ideas? Edit: Some additional details: The web server is in the DMZ. The hosts file on the web server has an entry for the database server (and the ip address is correct), so the web server (theoretically at least) shouldn't even be going to DNS to connect to the database server. It does not appear to be a firewall issue.

I have seen the Xcode help but cant find any good example, also watched the CI video from 2013 conference How do i create a custom trigger script, so every time a developer commits their code it will automatically trigger the bot. How do I merge the code to master only if Test successfully passes the bot? • phpMyAdmin Cron to Delete Temporary Files

  I have a folder on my hosting which I periodically upload something to - /public_html/uploads - and I'd like to set up a cronjob through phpMyAdmin to empty it out on a regular basis. The current cron I have in pMA is find /public_html/uploads -maxdepth 1 -ctime 1 -exec rm -f {} \; (Ignore the fact that it's running every minute for now, it's so I can test it :) ) I know very little about what this command is actually doing, but it looks like "not very much". Can anyone help me fix it? :) Thanks.

• Improving MySQL Update Query Efficiency

  In our database tables we keep a number of counting columns to help reduce the number of simple lookup queries. For example, in our users table we have columns for the number of reviews written, photos uploaded, friends, followers, etc. To help make sure these stay in sync we have a script that runs periodically to check and update these counting columns. The problem is that now that our database has grown significantly the queries we have been using are taking forever to run since they are totally inefficient. I would appreciate someone with more MySQL knowledge than myself to recommend how we can improve it's efficiency: update users set photos=(select count(*) from photos where photos.status="A" AND photos.user_id=users.id) where users.status="A"; If this were a select statement I would just use a join but I'm not sure if that is possible with update. • too many threads due to synch communication

  I'm using threads and xmlrpclib in python at the same time. Periodically, I create a bunch of thread to complete a service on a remote server via xmlrpclib. The problem is that, there are times that the remote server doesn't answer. This causes the thread to wait forever for a response which it never gets. Over time, number of threads in this state increases and will reach the maximum number of allowed threads on the system (I'm using fedora). I tried to use socket.setdefaulttimeout(10); but the exception that is created by that will cause the server to defunct. I used it at server side but it seems that it doesn't work :/ Any idea how can I handle this issue?

• Python - Memory Leak

  I'm working on solving a memory leak in my Python application. Here's the thing - it really only appears to happen on Windows Server 2008 (not R2) but not earlier versions of Windows, and it also doesn't look like it's happening on Linux (although I haven't done nearly as much testing on Linux). To troubleshoot it, I set up debugging on the garbage collector: gc.set_debug(gc.DEBUG_UNCOLLECTABLE | gc.DEBUG_INSTANCES | gc.DEBUG_OBJECTS) Then, periodically, I log the contents of gc.garbage. Thing is, gc.garbage is always empty, yet my memory usage goes up and up and up. Very puzzling.

• How to get notified of changes on a read only table? (I.e., Price drop notifications.)

  Let's say I have these tables/models: Product - id - last_updated_date - name - price User - id - name Wishlist - id - user_id - product_id The Product table has a few million records and is being updated automatically each night via a data import (inserting into a new table, dropping the old one). I basically have read-only access to that table/model. If a product is on a user's wishlist and the price drops, I'd like to be able to notify that user. What methods can be used to do this? I have a couple of ideas: Keep track of the Product.last_updated_date in the wishlist model and periodically poll the product table to see if it has been updated. This sounds like a horrible/non-scaleable solution. Some sort of Postgres View or Function that triggers when the Product table is updated? I'm new to postgres so I'm not yet sure if this is even possible. Something amazing that you will suggest that I haven't thought of :) Any help in the right direction is greatly appreciated!

I used Interface Builder to put the NSImageView control onto the window, initially (then bound it to outputImageView).   I'm considering using either raw notifications (WNS) or sockets for communication between a Windows 8 and WP8 app. I've found some samples for using sockets but my question[s] here are: does WP8 support sending/receiving messages over ssl and, if so, how is it done? Something I need to be true or find a workaround for is that the Windows 8 app has a permanent IPAddress to which the phone app will send its updates. Typically, a tablet will be running Windows 8 app, always listening for incoming messages; the phone app will periodically send messages.

• Check if a symlink has changed

  I have a daemon that, when it's started, loads its data from a directory that happens to be a symlink. Periodically, new data is generated and the symlink updated. I want a bash script that will check if the current symlink is the same as the old one (that the daemon started with) and if not, restart the daemon. Where should I put $old_dir?

• Advantage Database Replication

  I have a client that wants two sites to have the ability to sync databases so information at Site A can be synced with Site B so the two sites can look at the same data. I'm not even sure of the infrastructure required. Would a VPN required to connect the 2 databases or would an internet based database work ie/Site A to InternetDatabase and Site B to InternetDatabase. Each site copies data to it periodically and then the InternetDatabase syncs it and the Sites can then pull data down. My other thought was something like Dropbox. If Site A and Site B use a Dropbox account to sync the ADT files etc can the database at each site then sync with those ADT files? Thanks

  This question gets asked periodically, but I've long felt that existing Java logging frameworks were overcomplicated and over-engineered, and I want to see what's new. I have a more critical issue on my current project as we've standardized on JSON as our human-readable data encoding, and most logging frameworks I've seen require XML. I would really rather avoid using JSON for 95% of my apps configuration, and XML for the rest just because of the logging framework (truth be told, I hate XML used for anything other than text markup, its original intended purpose). Are there any hot new Java logging frameworks that are actively maintained, reasonably powerful, have a maven repo, can be reconfigured without restarting your app, and don't tie you to XML?

  The sensor module in my project consists of a rotating camera, that collects noisy information about moving objects in the surrounding environment. The information consists of distance, angle and relative change of the moving objects.. The limiting view range of the camera makes it essential to rotate the camera periodically to update environment information... I was looking for algorithms / ways to model these information, in order to be able to guess / predict / learn motion properties of these object.. My current proposed idea is to store last n snapshots of each object in a queue. I take weighted average of positions and velocities of moving object, but I think it is a poor method... • How do develop a Java web application without having to deploy all the time

  I've set up a simple Eclipse 3.5/Jetty 6.1 web app which returns hello world. It works. This is on Windows and uses the "Jetty Generic Server Adapter". I have auto deployment working so that it deploys after changes periodically. How do I go about setting it up so that if I change any static content it doesn't have to redeploy i.e I can just hit F5 to see the changes straight away. For minor HTML changes it's quite unusable waiting 20-30 seconds for a deployment.

  I am trying to use Swing Timer and I wanted to start from a very simple program. I have a window with text: "You have n seconds", where n changes from 10 to 0 every second. I know how to generate a window with text. And I understand how Timer works (it starts an action periodically). But I cannot figure out how to combing this two things. Should I use that: JLabel label = new JLabel(myMessage); and then with timer I need to update the "myMessage" variable? But I think I need to "force" my window to "update" itself (to display a new value stored in "myMessage").

• Stop MSVC++ debug errors from blocking the current process?

  Any failed ASSERT statements on Windows cause the below debug message to appear and freeze the applications execution. I realise this is expected behaviour but it is running periodically on a headless machine so prevent the unit tests from failing, instead waiting on user input indefinitely. Is there s a registry key or compiler flag I can use to prevent this message box from requesting user input whilst still allowing the test to fail under ASSERT? Basically, I want to do this without modifying any code, just changing compiler or Windows options. Thanks!

  Assume I have a cooperative scheduler in an embedded environment. I have many processes running. I want to utilize the watchdog timer so that I can detect when a process has stopped behaving for any reason and reset the processor. In simpler applications with no RTOS I would always touch the watchdog from the main loop and this was always adequate. However, here, there are many processes that could potentially hang. What is a clean method to touch the watchdog timer periodically while ensuring that each process is in good health? I was thinking that I could provide a callback function to each process so that it could let another function, which oversees all, know it is still alive. The callback would pass a parameter which would be the tasks unique id so the overseer could determine who was calling back.

• Method for demonstrating iPad application in online meetings

  We have recently developed an iPad application and now need to start demonstrating it to customers and prospects as part of our overall product suite during webinars. As part of our Agile methodology, we also need to periodically review the application with key customers without having to distribute it since the application is not a standalone application and requires a connection to web services installed at each customer site. We have searched high and low for any solution that doesn't involve rooting the device but have been unable to find one. The most common suggestion seems to be to point a webcam at the device, but that comes across as very unprofessional. I know that there are VGA out adapters that can be plugged into the iPad and we have used these to present through a projector when the customer is physically present, but this is a relatively rare occurrence. Perhaps there are solutions that we are unaware of that can be used to send VGA output back into a desktop device for screen sharing?
