  • UINavigationController navigation stack problems in Landscape Mode

    - by David F
I have a iPhone application that I am currently converting to a Universal Binary to work with the iPad. I have successfully implemented everything I need in terms of layout so that full landscape functionality is now supported in my app (previously I primarily used portrait mode to display content). But, I have one strange problem, and it ONLY occurs in landscape mode: when I push a view controller onto the stack, it takes two taps on the back button to return to the previous view controller!!! The first tap shows a blank view, but with the same name on the left-side back navigation button, the second tap takes the controller back to previous view like it should. I don't have an iPad to test, so I am relying on the simulator. The problem does not show up on the iPhone and doesn't show up if you rotate back to portrait mode. My app consists of a tabbarcontroller with navigation controllers loaded for its vc's: //application delegate - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application //.... WebHelpViewController *vc8 = [[WebHelpViewController alloc] init]; UINavigationController *nv8 = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:vc8]; [self.tabBarController setViewControllers:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:nv1,nv2,nv3,nv4,nv5,nv6,nv7,nv8,nil]]; To implement landscape capability, the UITabBarController is overridden to autorotate when required: //CustomTabBarController.m - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return [[(UINavigationController *)self.selectedViewController topViewController] shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; } ... works fine. I navigate into new views using this method SomeViewController *vc = [[SomeViewController alloc] init]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:vc animated:YES]; [vc release]; Has anyone encountered this problem, and do they know if it's only a simulation error?

  • Navigation Items in UITableViewController are not appearing?

    - by Sheehan Alam
I am displaying a UITableViewController inside of a UITabBarController that is being presented modally: -(IBAction)arButtonClicked:(id)sender{ //this is a uitableviewcontroller ARViewController* arViewController = [[[ARViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ARViewController" bundle:nil]autorelease]; LeaderBoardTableViewController* lbViewController = [[[LeaderBoardTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LeaderBoardTableViewController" bundle:nil]autorelease]; lbViewController.title = @"Leaderboard"; arTabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; arTabBarController.viewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:arViewController, lbViewController, nil]; arTabBarController.selectedViewController = arViewController; [self presentModalViewController:arTabBarController animated:YES]; } In my viewDidLoad for arViewController method I am setting the navigation items: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Uncomment the following line to preserve selection between presentations. self.clearsSelectionOnViewWillAppear = NO; self.title = @"AR"; leaderBoardButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemOrganize target:self action:@selector(leaderBoardButtonClicked:)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = leaderBoardButton; } My navigation bar doesn't appear when it is inside of the UITabBarController, but when I push the view itself I am able to see it. What am I missing?

  • Detect and handle, or override, clicks on a navigation bar

    - by Henrik Erlandsson
I have an app where I've pushed two items onto the navigation bar. The top item, which ends up as a 'back' button, should have the function to jump all the way back to the start page, which is a list of web news. The other one simply displays a logo. The boss wants a navigation bar look and feel but with a simple function, so the user can click around the news site, but always be able to jump to the news list page with just the one click. Is the only option to create a fixed navbar with two items in IB, so that I can connect an outlet to the clickable item - or is there some way to intercept clicks to the navbar to make a requestURL? touchesBegan or touchUpInside would be fine, but I've found no way of implementing that so far. It's okay if the whole navbar is clickable, I just need some hint how to make it happen. Add a transparent UIlabel on top and detect clicks for that, maybe? A bonus would be to hide the item in the 'back' position without popping it from the stack.

  • entity framework navigation property further filter without loading into memory

    - by cellik
Hi, I've two entities with 1 to N relation in between. Let's say Books and Pages. Book has a navigation property as Pages. Book has BookId as an identifier and Page has an auto generated id and a scalar property named PageNo. LazyLoading is set to true. I've generated this using VS2010 & .net 4.0 and created a database from that. In the partial class of Book, I need a GetPage function like below public Page GetPage(int PageNumber) { //checking whether it exist etc are not included for simplicity return Pages.Where(p=>p.PageNo==PageNumber).First(); } This works. However, since Pages property in the Book is an EntityCollection it has to load all Pages of a book in memory in order to get the one page (this slows down the app when this function is hit for the first time for a given book). i.e. Framework does not merge the queries and run them at once. It loads the Pages in memory and then uses LINQ to objects to do the second part To overcome this I've changed the code as follows public Page GetPage(int PageNumber) { MyContainer container = new MyContainer(); return container.Pages.Where(p=>p.PageNo==PageNumber && p.Book.BookId==BookId).First(); } This works considerably faster however it doesn't take into account the pages that have not been serialized to the db. So, both options has its cons. Is there any trick in the framework to overcome this situation. This must be a common scenario where you don't want all of the objects of a Navigation property loaded in memory when you don't need them.

  • How combine TabBar + Navigation with XCode

    - by mamcx
I'm triying to combine a TabBar + Navigation app. I have 5 tab bars, 4 are listing of stuff and drill down to details views. I try to follow this tutorial: http://www.iphonedevforums.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/124-view-controller-problem.html But always get a blank view. This is what I do, with a clean project: I start with a TabBar template app. I put 5 tab bar buttons. I create a controller like: @interface FirstViewController : UINavigationController { } I put the main window.xib on tree mode & change the selected first view to FirstViewController I select the TabBar Controller in Interface builder, go to TabBar Attributes & change the class to navigation controler. Select the fist view & put the nib name "SecondView" In response, I get a blank screen. I must add that I wanna navigate from the details views, no from the main windows. i.e in the main window tab bar 1 is the list of people. I select a person then wanna navigate to the detail window.

  • Make UIViewController outside Navigation Controller

    - by user1447316
i have a question for you. I'm working on this app that has a walkthrough/tutorial screens and also login ones. On each of this screens there is a button to skip this part and go directly to use the app, without completing the registration (you know, so that people can test it before signing-in). As you can see i'm using Storyboards. The NowPlaying04 ViewController is actually the app itself. Obviously, when the user will be a registered one, i should also be able to jump right back to that screen, skipping the walkthrough and signin process. The first question is: how is the best way to structure this? The second quesion is: how i can make a ViewController outside that Navigation controller. Cause as you can see now, the NowPlaying04 ViewController inherits the top navigation bar. Which is a thing that i don't want. I don't need that. I hope that you have understood my question. I'll appreciate any help. Programmatically or by dragging stuff around, i'm ok with all the solutions. The important thing is that it works correctly! :-)

  • Windows 7: enabling navigation of subfolders in pinned Start Menu folders

    - by AspNyc
I'm just about to move from Windows XP to Windows 7, and I'm struggling with some of the interface changes. In XP, I was able to throw a folder intoC:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menuand have it appear on the Start Menu, complete with the ability to navigate through subfolders. I've figured out how to pin a folder onto the Start Menu in Windows 7, which required a registry hack. However, I am unable to view the subfolders of the pinned folder without opening a new Windows Explorer window. Is there any way to replicate the old XP behavior I'm used to? I'd like to be only a single click away from these handful of application links and folders, since I use them all the time throughout the day.

  • 301 redirects in main navigation menu of WordPress website - is this okay for SEO?

    - by Lewis Bassett
I want to allow a client to have a flexible way to configure the navigation menu for his WordPress website. To that end, I have created a parent page called "Navigation", which has child pages for each page to be displayed in the navigation menu. Those pages then get 301 redirected to the actual page that should be served. This means the client can create pages freely, and then set up redirects for them as and when needed. This is a really easy way for him to manage his main menu and it works well. From an SEO point of view, is this okay? Will the pages be indexed fine?

  • Keyboard shortcut / navigation references

    - by jerryjvl
I use the mouse much too freely, and my wrists are not thanking me for it. I have been meaning to try and use the keyboard more as my sole means of navigating Windows, but I am having trouble sticking with it because when I need to do something and I cannot find the right shortcut, I grab the mouse and forget to let go of it again. Personally, the main software that I need keyboard reference sheets for would be: Firefox Thunderbird Visual Studio Windows itself But I would encourage more general inclusion of shortcut references in the answers in case anyone else tries to make the same transition I am attempting ;) What I am looking for is reference material that is as comprehensive as possible so that over time I can hopefully learn to do everything with the keyboard and spare my wrists. Bonus points for references that can be printed in a reasonable size so I can keep them next to my machine in hardcopy. I know there is an answer for Windows already: Is there a definitive reference for Windows shortcuts keys?, but I am leaving it in my question in case anyone has a better printable alternative.

  • Resgen al.exe generated resources do not work within .net library

    - by Raj G
Hi, I am currently working on a library in .Net and I planned to make the strings that are used within the library into culture specific resource files. I made Resources.resx, Resources.en-US.resx and Resources.ja-JP.resx file. I also deleted the Resources.designer.cs file autogenerated by visual studio 2008. I am loading Resources through my custom ResourceManager object [using GetString method]. The problem that I am facing is that when I compile the library within visual studio and set the culture from the calling application, everything is working fine. But if I manually go to the directory and change a string for a culture and regenerate the satellite assembly with resgen and al.exe, the string displayed, falls back to the invariant culture. I have attached the ildasm view of both the dlls en-US generated from within visual studio //Metadata version: v2.0.50727 .assembly extern mscorlib { .publickeytoken = (B7 7A 5C 56 19 34 E0 89 ) // .z\V.4.. .hash = (71 05 4D 54 C4 8D C2 90 7D 8B CF 57 2E B5 98 22 // q.MT....}..W..." • Changing CSS height property removes anchors?

    - by JMan
I am working on a standard header/navigation for my website. I started with having a CSS "height" value of 100% for the html, body elements but this resulted in the wrong layout. However, when I change the CSS height property from "100%" to "auto", the layout is correct, but I lose the anchors in the navigation. Why is this? Here's my CSS: html, body { height: auto; /* This is the only property that I'm toggling */ margin: 0; } body { margin: 0; min-width: 978px; font: 12px/16px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #000; background: #000001 url('../images/bg-body.jpg') no-repeat 50% 0; } #nav { position: relative; float: left; margin: 0; padding: 0 2px 0 271px; list-style: none; background: url('../images/sep-nav.gif') no-repeat 100% 0; } #nav li { float: left; padding: 11px 0 0 2px; height: 35px; width: 128px; line-height: 22px; font-size: 18px; text-align: center; background: url('../images/sep-nav.gif') no-repeat 0 -1px; display: inline; } #nav li a {color: #FFFEFE;} ..... I compared the computed CSS in Firebug when the html, body height property was set to "auto" vs. "100%" and they were the same. Can somebody please shed some light on how retain the anchors in the navigation while setting height to "auto"? Thanks for your help.

  • Need some advice before starting coding my next iPhone app...

    - by Tom
Hi! I need some advice about how should I start coding something. So here is the context: I've just finished building a CMS that manage a SQLite database. My application will be picking this database and use its content as the application's content. So far it's pretty simple. The application will have a navigation that will browse through various workflows, and once at the end workflow, it'll show contents from the database. A consultation kind a thing, example: Liquids - Juice - Orange Juice - Informations about Orange Juice. For my SQLite transactions, so far I believe I'll be using fmdb. It looks like a great wrapper. Here's a simple schema from one of the database: Workflow: id: { type: integer(3), primary: true, autoincrement: true } workflow_id: { type: integer(1) } name: { type: string(255) } That table's rows will be my navigations. Do you believe I should use a navigation controller? If so, then how could I generate the navigation tree from it? I have a good working knowledge of Objective-C and Foundation framework, but never went too far with it so that is why I'm asking before starting in the wrong direction :) Thanks a lot.

  • Switching between 2 UINavigationControllers

    - by Smikey
Hi all, I seem to have a problem switching between 2 UINavigationControllers, i.e. one which controls the main (selection) menu of my application, and the second which controls the main session (i.e. the user can't go back to the selection menu once they're started a new session). The first works just fine, but I get into trouble when trying to load the second. I have a class called GameViewController which contains the second UINavigationController instance. I set this up as usual, linking it as an IBOutlet to the delegate and setting up the NavController in the GameViewController.xib file with its 'Class' property pointing at GameScreenViewController (my main game screen), and its NIB Name property pointing to the GameScreenViewController nib file. I then create a new instance of GameViewController and load it. In IB, the navigation controller looks fine, with its View 'loaded from "GameScreenViewController"', however when the NavigationController is loaded in the game, it actually loads the GameViewController's UIWindow instance (just a blank window). I'm not sure how to make it load the Navigation Controller's view rather than its own window? Also, another quick question. When I load the second navigation controller from the first, which makes more sense to use: [self.view addSubview:gameViewController.view]; or [self presentModalViewController:gameViewController animated:YES]; Thanks for any help, much appreciated :D Michael

  • ASP.NET MVC Create dynamic navigation sub-menu on the master page

    - by Michael Narinsky
I'm trying to create an ASP.NET MVC master page so the site navigation on it will look like this: Main Menu:Home | About | News Sub Menu: Home_Page1 | Home_Page2 The Sub Menu section should always show sub-menu for the currently selected Main Menu page (on the example above 'Home' page is selected) unless a user hovers the mouse on another Main Menu item (then it shows that item's sub-menu instead). What is the best way to get such functionality in ASP.NET MVC?

  • iPhone Title and Subtitle in Navigation Bar

    - by Reuven
    Hi there, In my application, I'd like to have the navigation bar display a title and subtitle. To that extent, I added the following code to my view controller: // Replace titleView CGRect headerTitleSubtitleFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 200, 44); UIView* _headerTitleSubtitleView = [[[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:headerTitleSubtitleFrame] autorelease]; _headerTitleSubtitleView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; _headerTitleSubtitleView.autoresizesSubviews = YES; CGRect titleFrame = CGRectMake(0, 2, 200, 24); UILabel *titleView = [[[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:titleFrame] autorelease]; titleView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; titleView.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:20]; titleView.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; titleView.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; titleView.shadowColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor]; titleView.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0, -1); titleView.text = @""; titleView.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES; [_headerTitleSubtitleView addSubview:titleView]; CGRect subtitleFrame = CGRectMake(0, 24, 200, 44-24); UILabel *subtitleView = [[[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:subtitleFrame] autorelease]; subtitleView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; subtitleView.font = [UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:13]; subtitleView.textAlignment = UITextAlignmentCenter; subtitleView.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor]; subtitleView.shadowColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor]; subtitleView.shadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0, -1); subtitleView.text = @""; subtitleView.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = YES; [_headerTitleSubtitleView addSubview:subtitleView]; _headerTitleSubtitleView.autoresizingMask = (UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleLeftMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleRightMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleTopMargin | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleBottomMargin); self.navigationItem.titleView = _headerTitleSubtitleView; And also implemented a method: -(void) setHeaderTitle:(NSString*)headerTitle andSubtitle:(NSString*)headerSubtitle { assert(self.navigationItem.titleView != nil); UIView* headerTitleSubtitleView = self.navigationItem.titleView; UILabel* titleView = [headerTitleSubtitleView.subviews objectAtIndex:0]; UILabel* subtitleView = [headerTitleSubtitleView.subviews objectAtIndex:1]; assert((titleView != nil) && (subtitleView != nil) && ([titleView isKindOfClass:[UILabel class]]) && ([subtitleView isKindOfClass:[UILabel class]])); titleView.text = headerTitle; subtitleView.text = headerSubtitle; } Things work beautifully, thanks. Except that when rotating the iPhone to Landscape, the title+subtitle don't downsize in an automatic manner like the default title of the navigation item. Any pointers? Thanks!

  • TTNavigator doesn't use existing navigation bar (iPhone)

    - by user220770
I am using the three20 framework in one view controller of my App. I create TTNavigator object and open a url which works fine. The problem is that TT creates it's own navigation bar and does not use the existing bar. There is no back button on the new nav bar so I cannot go back to my previous view controller. Has anybody run into this issue? Any ideas on how to fix (besides not using three20)? Thanks

  • Keyboard navigation in typical WPF Business Line Application

    - by Guge
    I have a WPF business line application with a tabbed userinterface, menus and toolbars. The application must be navigable through a keyboard, some users like to minimize mouse use. I have thrown together the included XAML sample to illustrate the problem of keyboard navigation. Using the tab key I can only get to the menu, and then to the toolbar. I have tried various attached properties for KeyboardNavigation and FocusManager, but I have not succeeded in the following goals: Navigate to the contents of the first tabpage using the keyboard. Disable tab key navigation from tabpage to menu and toolbar. Change tabpage using Ctrl-Tab. <Window x:Class="WpfApplication4.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="MainWindow" Height="408" Width="569" > <DockPanel> <Menu DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <MenuItem Header="_File"> <MenuItem Header="Open"/> </MenuItem> <MenuItem Header="_Edit"></MenuItem> </Menu> <ToolBarTray DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <ToolBar> <Label Target="{Binding ElementName=SearchBox}"> _Search </Label> <TextBox Name="SearchBox" Width="80"></TextBox> <Button>Search</Button> </ToolBar> </ToolBarTray> <StatusBar DockPanel.Dock="Bottom"> Statusbar here </StatusBar> <TabControl> <TabItem Header="File 1"> <WrapPanel> <Button>Click</Button> <CheckBox>Check</CheckBox> <Slider Minimum="0" Maximum="100" Width="150"/> </WrapPanel> </TabItem> <TabItem Header="File 2"> </TabItem> <TabItem Header="File 3"> </TabItem> </TabControl> </DockPanel>
