  • mysql: encrypting and decrypting data

    Does mysql provide a mechanism for storing and retrieving encrypted data? I don't mean passwords, I mean real strings. I'd like to encrypt a string, store in mysql and then retrieve the decrypted string at a later date. So, I know there is the AES_Encrypt and decrypt functions. But they ask for a key. (which is fine) but I wondering if you call those functions and use your user password as the key. Or something else that is super-simple. Also, is there a simple wrapper for the AES_Encrypt & decrypt functions in Rails? Or do you need to build the query manually?

    I need to create a Microsoft Access database, but have a need, in one of my tables, for a single field to be strongly encrypted. Since AES requires both a key and an initialization vector, I've decided to solve this problem by requiring a password to access the database (as the key), and a field in the table to hold a SHA1 hash of the plaintext of the encrypted field. Does anyone know where I can find VBA-compatible code to actually do the encryption?

    Trying to write a couple of functions that will encrypt or decrypt a file and am using the class found here to try and accomplish this: http://www.itnewb.com/v/PHP-Encryption-Decryption-Using-the-MCrypt-Library-libmcrypt The encryption function below seems to work, in that it appears to encrypt the file and place it in the intended directory. I'm trying to decrypt the file now, and it just dies with the message "Failed to complete decryption" (which is coded in there...) There's nothing in the php error logs, so I'm not sure why it's failing, but as mcrypt is entirely new to me, I'm more than inclined to believe I'm doing something wrong here...     I am trying to read a bmp file in C++(Turbo). But i m not able to print binary stream. I want to encode txt file into it and decrypt it. How can i do this. I read that bmp file header is of 54 byte. But how and where should i append txt file in bmp file. ?     Okay i'm a little bit stuck on how to solve this problem. When a user registers. I want to send him a link so that he can verify hes email address. But i have troubles generating the link. I've already written the controller to accept the links with the correct keys. i only have no idea on how to generate the activation keys.     Does anyone know of a good way to encrypt and decrypt strings using VB6 to ensure sensitive data is secure? Also, is there an encryption method that can be shared between VB6 and .NET? Example: The encrypted string will be written to a database using a VB6 application, but the value also need to be read an decrypted in a c# .net application using the .net framework if possible.   • How can I link axes of imshow plots for zooming and panning?

    Suppose I have a figure canvas with 3 plots... 2 are images of the same dimensions plotted with imshow, and the other is some other kind of subplot. I'd like to be able to link the x and y axes of the imshow plots so that when I zoom in one (using the zoom tool provided by the NavigationToolbar), the other zooms to the same coordinates, and when I pan in one, the other pans as well. Subplot methods such as scatter and histogram can be passed kwargs specifying an axes for sharex and sharey, but imshow has no such configuration. I started hacking my way around this by subclassing NavigationToolbar2WxAgg (shown below)... but there are several problems here. 1) This will link the axes of all plots in a canvas since all I've done is get rid of the checks for a.in_axes() 2) This worked well for panning, but zooming caused all subplots to zoom from the same global point, rather than from the same point in each of their respective axes. Can anyone suggest a workaround?     I noticed in Firefox when viewing the cookies that the values I am saving are not encrypted. The CakePHP Book states that values are encrypted by default on write(). I can't seem to find any gotchas in the doc Anyone else experience this problem? I am sure I am missing something.. Would it matter that the value being set is a integer?

    I need to call a web service that requires a login url containing an RSA encrypted, base_64 encoded and url-encoded login data. I don't have a formal php training, but even for me it seems like an easy task, however when calling the service I get an 'Invalid Format' response.     Hello, I need to be able to encrypt the MySQL traffic from a web server to a database server. I know how to set MySQL to use SSL based on the server and client settings in my.cnf however, this needs to be done using mysql_connect() in PHP. This may be a 2 part question. 1) Does mysql_connect() use the MySQL client settings that are set in my.cnf? If not... I have read that you can use MYSQL_CLIENT_SSL however, where is the SSL data obtained from? Does using MYSQL_CLIENT_SSL in the mysql_connect function automagically encrypt the traffic? Simply put, what is the best way to do this? Thanks!
