  • Microsoft Outlook 2007 - General Failure. The URL was: "<http:/something.com>". The parameter is incorrect

    For the last two days, Outlook has decided it doesn't like URL's. Any email message that comes in containing an URL will show the following in an error dialogue message box when I click on the link: General Failure. The URL was: "http:/something.com/somewhere/". The parameter is incorrect If I copy the link into a browser, it works correctly. OS is Windows XP SP 3, Microsoft Office 2007 (Outlook), Internet Explorer 8 (also Chrome). I have, of course, Googled this and the two most popular solutions are: Solution 1: Add/Remove programs Set Program Access and Defaults Custom tab Make sure a default browser is selected Solution 2: Add/Remove Programs Select the MS Office 2007 item Click Change Click Repair I have tried both of these and I still get the problem. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it with a solution other than those listed above?

  • Platform to allow users to suggest and vote for ideas

    I head up a support team for a software product. I am in the process of setting up a blog (Wordpress.org), a forum (PHPBB or maybe Vanilla), a means to view bugs (probably expose Jira), but would also like to allow our customers to suggest enhancement requests. Currently we have this as a 'contact form' via the blog, which feeds into a dedicated inbox, which the product manager reviews and may include some of these ideas into the product. However, I would like to give the clients more power/visibility over this. Have a look at ideas.arcgis.com. There are plenty of other similar sites as well. Users can suggest new ideas Other users can vote these ideas up or down (similar to Stack Exchange sites) Ideas that are voted highly will be given a higher priority over lower ones. We can report back on the # of ideas we implement, and potentially reject ideas with reasoning. Has anyone seen any platforms (ideally free) which would replicate something similar to this? I was half thinking of embedding Vanilla within a wordpress page, but need to look into it more.

  • Troubleshooting my internet connection

    While I was out of the house, my father rearranged the network cables a bit. I don't know what he has done exactly - He says nothing more then pulling and untangling. When I came back home, my internet connection changed its IP from 192.168.0.205 to 169.254.197.233. The speed changed from 1Gbps to 10Mbps. It has also been at 100Mbps for a while. My subnetmask changed from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0. The standard gateway changed from 192.168.0.1 to no standard gateway. My DNS servers remain the same. I have checked the lights of the UTP ports, and it looks like it's only sending a heartbeat every few seconds. A sketch of the (relevant part of) the network: My PC ----- extender ----- modem ^ ^ ^ Wired | Wired | This thing connects two cables to each other All the cabling is gigabit, my network card is a Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20). THe modem is a CBN SVG6540E I have no idea what is going on here and I don't know how to find out either. Any help is welcome! If you need any more info, please ask.

  • MySQL simple replication problem: 'show master status' produces 'Empty set'?

    I've been setting up MySQL master replication (on Debian 6.0.1) following these instructions faithfully: http://www.neocodesoftware.com/replication/ I've got as far as: mysql > show master status; but this is unfortunately producing the following, rather than any useful output: Empty set (0.00 sec) The error log at /var/log/mysql.err is just an empty file, so that's not giving me any clues. Any ideas? This is what I have put in /etc/mysql/my.cnf on one server (amended appropriately for the other server): server-id = 1 replicate-same-server-id = 0 auto-increment-increment = 2 auto-increment-offset = 1 master-host = 10.0.0.3 master-user = <myusername> master-password = <mypass> master-connect-retry = 60 replicate-do-db = fruit log-bin = /var/log/mysql-replication.log binlog-do-db = fruit And I have set up users and can connect from MySQL on Server A to the database on Server B using the username/password/ipaddress above.

  • Windows 7 security and Avast antivirus turned off by themself

    I was just browsing around when at once I got messages that UAC, windows defender, Avast, etc. got turned off, without me doing anything. Then my PC turned by itself. I'm now running virus scans and I checked my eventlogs, but found nothing yet. Windows Update also failed to install a new definition after I rebooted. Any idea what this could've been? EDIT: Forgot to mention that everything was turned on again after rebooting. I have since the reboot got nothing abnormal.

  • Certain websites won't load with DHCP server

    Hi, I recently configured a server using Windows Server 2008 to take over from my router using DHCP Server. I disabled my router from assigning IPs too. All works well, except for certain sites that refuse to load e.g. "Firefox could not find www.amazon.co.uk" http://www.google.co.uk/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/ http://www.jobsite.co.uk/ I think it may have something to do with co.uk domain. If I reboot the server everything goes back to normal but of course thats not a good solution to do that every other day. Does anyone know of this problem or what it might be - I am very new to server technology.

  • Trying to figure Windows 2008 Server and Active Directory - complete novice!

    I am a novice in networking and I want to learn more about Windows Server 2008 and Active Directory. Basically I have serveral Windows 7 PC's in my home and an IBM server with Win Server 2008 installed. I have enabled Active Directory and set the server to have a static IP. Thats as far as I have got and I feel a little overwhelmed at the moment as I am not sure what to do next. What I eventually want to do is have the Windows 7 PC's to be able to be authenticated by the server - basically a mock up of what most large or medium sized businesses/organisations run. Sorry if I sound a bit sketchy, but I understand some things but not the whole picture, I guess I just need confirmation that I am sort of on the right track :) Also what are some good resources out there you can point me to, what are the absolute basics I need to to get started so I can further my learning?

  • Best way to partition 1 TB (Linux and Windows 7)

    Is there an intelligent way to partition 1 TB and be prepared for resizing/adding/deleting partitions? I was thinking about LVM, but as far as I remember, Windows 7 can't be installed on logical volume right? For now my plan is: - ~150 GB for Windows 7 and other stuff (Visual Studio..., maybe I'll split it 100/50 or something like that) - simple NTFS - 850 GB = LVM - disk for Linux (Ubuntu) and other stuff virtual machines, etc. I'm mostly interested in how and what tools should I use to get easy in maintain partitions for both systems.

    I use emacs org-mode to manage work items. Every week, I manually remove all Done items older than 2 weeks. Is there an easy way to perform this automatically? EDIT: I am currently trying to add a new custom command like this: (setq org-agenda-custom-commands '(("P" "Show old entries" todo "DONE" ( (org-agenda-files '("c:/git/org/tickets.org")) (tags "CLOSED<=\"-2w\"") ) )) ) The filter on the CLOSED timestamp is not working correctly.

    How do you implement a multiselect combobox as part of a Ext.FormPanel using ExtJs? I've been looking, but can't seem to find a solution that is compatible with the latest version of ExtJs (this question is similar, but doesn't have a working/current solution). This is what I have so far, but it's a single select: new Ext.FormPanel({ labelAlign: 'top', frame: true, width: 800, items: [{ layout: 'column', items:[{ columnWidth: 1, layout: 'form', items: [{ xtype: 'combo', fieldLabel: 'Countries', name: 'c[]', anchor: '95%', allowBlank: false, typeAhead: true, triggerAction: 'all', lazyRender: true, mode: 'local', store: new Ext.data.ArrayStore({ id: 0, fields: ['myId', 'displayText'], data: [ ["CA", 'Canada'], ["US", 'United States'], ["JP", 'Japan'], ] }), valueField: 'myId', displayField: 'displayText' }] }] }] }).render(document.body); I didn't see any parameters in the documentation that suggests that this is supported.   • DotNetOpenAuth OpenID Provider "Sequence contains more than one element"

    Hello, all, I'm having trouble implementing my OpenID provider with DNOA 3.4.3. Everything was going absolutely peachy until I needed AX support as well. I set AXFetchAsSregTransform in the web config, as recommended by Andrew at http://groups.google.com/group/dotnetopenid/browse_thread/thread/5629a24c0a7e8d99. Doing this caused me to get the exception "Sequence Contains More Than One Element" on my decide.aspx page, however, and I haven't been able to get past it. The following line is throwing the exception: Edit: Strangely enough, this is not the line throwing the error anymore. The SendResponse() is now triggering the exception ClaimsRequest requestedFields = ProviderEndpoint.PendingRequest.GetExtension(); ProviderEndpoint.SendResponse() Any thoughts on why this may be?   • Automapper: Map an Enum to its [Description] attribute

    I have a source object that looks like this: private class SourceObject { public Enum1 EnumProp1 { get; set; } public Enum2 EnumProp2 { get; set; } } The enums are decorated with a custom [Description] attribute that provides a string representation, and I have an extension method .GetDescription() that returns it. How do I map these enum properties using that extension? I'm trying to map to an object like this: private class DestinationObject { public string Enum1Description { get; set; } public string Enum2Description { get; set; } } I think a custom formatter is my best bet, but I can't figure out how to add the formatter and specify which field to map from at the same time.

    Hi I am building an internal app for my company using jQuery's autocomplete and am finding it tends to start off very slow. My assumption is that the bottle neck is perhaps adding its elements to the DOM since after the first query it seems to be substantially speedier. Does anyone know of a way to pre-load these elements on page load instead of doing it for the first time when the user starts typing?

    I need to programmatically generate an RTF document with a table that has a column vertically merged., e.x. ______________________________ | merged | foo | hello | | cell | | | | right |--------|----------| | here | bar | world | |_________|________|__________| I looked up online and found that the codes are \clvmgf and \clvmrg but I can't find a decent example. I made a text rtf using MS word, but there's too much junk rtf codes in it for me to figure it out where to put the \clvmgf and \clvmrg to get this to work. Could someone give me an rtf for above example table with no extraneous rtf codes so I can figure out how \clvmgf and \clvmrg works? Any additional explanation would also be greatly appreciated. Wind speed and direction will be displayed using "wind barb" symbols, as described here: Plotted Winds My question: Are there any standards for the angles and lengths of the "flags" in relation to the the wind-barb "pole"? Eyeballing the diagrams I've seen, I think that an angle of 60 degrees and a flag length about a third as long as the pole length would look fine, but if there are any officially defined standards for these symbols, I'd like to follow them. Note: This app will not be used for navigation, so it is not very important that it look exactly like an official chart. I just don't want it to be ugly, or to look obviously wrong to a knowledgeable user.
