• Fixing Corrupted Text

  I Have text which looks like this: supposed to undergo yearly cardiac exam in order to stay on transplant list. But, there are patients who are missing important cardiac information. It is yo ur job as an intern on call to make sure that you fin As you can see, the first line is fine, but then the second line is corrupt. It looks like this even when I open it using Vim or LibreOffice. Is there a way to fix this? I've tried changing the encoding to UTF-8 but to no avail. Thanks!

  In sublime text, we can press ??P to bring up the command palette. Are there any similar tools for vim? I’ve been trying vim-ctrlp-cmdpalette, and although it works relatively well (there are some small issues), it depends on ctrlp (not a huge problem), and it looks like it won’t see much development (it has 14 commits over the course of 3 days, 5 months ago, for an “Initial experimental version”), so I was wondering if there are any known alternatives, since searching for “vim command palette” is a bit limiting; maybe there are some other terms more appropriate for this.

• Mac OS X - Quickly change voices for Text-to-Speech

  I love the text to Speech feature of Mac OS X. Since I'm not a native English speaker I'm very happy about all the additional languages added since Lion came out. However, I do use English as well as my native language (German). Changing voices is a bit of a pain. It just requires too many steps to be comfortable. Is there any way to make this easy? I was looking for shortcuts, maybe a drop down menu somwhere up in the right corner, anything would be fine. Since my search was not successful, I hope to find some advice here on SuperUser. • How to build compass in sublime text 2

  I downloaded this package which allows use to build compass in though sublime text by pressing cmd+b. I created a sass file, made sure compass is selected from the tools build system compass menu. But when I press cmd+b the file does not compile and I get no error. I only get [Finished in 0.0s with exit code 1]. However I also tested to build the code with sass (tools build system sass) and it works fine. Do I need to do anything to the sass file for compass to work. Thanks

• Change default text editor for crontab to vim

  I'm using ubuntu 9.10 and the default text editor is nano, which i hate. (doesn't everyone?) Normally it's not a problem as i just vi or gedit everything but crontab -e is opening with nano. I tried changing it to vim using sudo update-alternatives --config editor and selecting option 3 ("/usr/bin/vim.basic"). This has changed it for sudo and non-sudo alike. But crontab -e still opens nano. Any ideas? max

So basically, if I have these lines: This is not a test This is a test Maybe a test Definitely not a test And I run the script with 'not', I need to entirely delete lines 1 and 4. I've been trying with: PS C:\Users\Admin> (Get-Content "D:\Logs\co2.txt") | Foreach-Object {$_ -replace "3*Program*", ""} | Set-Content "D:\Logs\co2.txt" but it only replaces the 'Program' and not the entire line.

• sIFR 3 HTML text does not display, .sIFR-alternate causing problem

  It seems my sIFR 3 text does not show HTML text if the Flash text is not displayed. Here's one of the pages in question: http://www.jeremyschultz.com/client/orchardplace/website/beta/volunteer/ One person has reported not seeing anything when viewing this page, and I can recreate it by removing the Flash text with Firebug. Testing with Firebug also suggests the .sIFR-alternate class is what's causing this: when I remove it, the text shows up, and it disappears again when I restore it. I copied the original CSS and also tried applying a few new CSS rules to .sIFR-alternate but nothing has solved it. What do you think? Jeremy [email protected]

• Multiple synonym dictionary matches in PostgreSQL full text searching

  I am trying to do full text searching in PostgreSQL 8.3. It worked splendidly, so I added in synonym matching (e.g. 'bob' == 'robert') using a synonym dictionary. That works great too. But I've noticed that it apparently only allows a word to have one synonym. That is, 'al' cannot be 'albert' and 'allen'. Is this correct? Is there any way to have multiple dictionary matches in a PostgreSQL synonym dictionary? For reference, here is my sample dictionary file: bob robert bobby robert al alan al albert al allen And the SQL that creates the full text search config: CREATE TEXT SEARCH DICTIONARY nickname (TEMPLATE = synonym, SYNONYMS = nickname); CREATE TEXT SEARCH CONFIGURATION dxp_name (COPY = simple); ALTER TEXT SEARCH CONFIGURATION dxp_name ALTER MAPPING FOR asciiword WITH nickname, simple; What am I doing wrong?   I have some text laid out using Core Text in my iPhone app. I'm using NSAttributedString to set certain styles within the text for given ranges. I can't seem to find an attribute for setting a background / highlight colour, though it would seem it is possible. • Parsing a XML File and Replacing Chosen Node With Values From Text File

  I wrote a C# Winforms program to take a XML file and load values from a text file into each occurrence of that field which the user specifies on the UI. For whatever reason, the program inserts a carriage return on any nodes which don't contain a value. For example, it will do that to <example></example> whereas it will not misbehave on something like <country>USA</country> What is causing it to do this and how can I prevent it?   I put my buttons in a JPane with GridLayout. Then I put JPanel into another JPanel with BoxLayout.Y_AXIS. I want buttons in the GridLayout to be square. I use tmp.setSize(30,30) and it does not work. I also try to use new GridLayout(X, Y, 4, 4) but I cannot figure out what X and Y are. So, what is the correct way to do this stuff?

  hello, I have a problem with sizes of divs - in Firefox everything is fine, but IE messes things up, I use only jquery show hide function which open div with other divs nested in it, you can see what I mean on www.custos.pl/v1 - by choosing any option on the bottom, a div opens up, where you have a submenu opening up jScrollPanes, the whole div should stay within the photo background, but in IE it goes vertically way beyond it, Id appreciate your help

• Remove the white text shadow from disabled links in IE8

  We are using Ext JS for an application in work, building a custom theme for it. We currently have a dark colour scheme including menus with dark backgrounds. In some of the menus some of the links are disabled at certain points, which all perfectly. However IE8 seems to add a sort of white text shadow, which I am sure is normally fine but as the text is light grey and the background is dark grey the white text shadow makes it look blurry and even makes the other enabled links more disabled as they look darker. Does anyone know of a way to remove the text shadow (I realise it is not css text-shadow as IE does not support it).

• Slow motion tween text isn't smooth

  Hi! i have to create a movie where a text string move in horizontal. the problem is that in the movie (800px wide) the text should go from right to left in about 7 seconds (so it have to go about 400px to the left in 7 sec). i created a motion-tween with ease for my "text" and the tween is long (at 30fps) 30*7=210 frames. the result is that the text DON'T MOVE FLUID... it's not a uniform movement... it's too visible the fact that it moves X pixel each x frames. it's the exact opposite of SMOOTH MOVEMENT. How can i obtain a smooth slow-motion text movement?

• MySQL primary/foreign key size?

  I seem to see a lot of people arbitrarily assigning large sizes to primary/foreign key fields in their MySQL schemas, such as INT(11) and even BIGINT(20) as WordPress uses. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but even an INT(4) would support (unsigned) values up to over 4 billion. Change it to INT(5) and you allow for values up to a quadrillion, which is more than you would ever need, unless possibly you're storing geodata at NASA/Google, which I'm sure most of us aren't. Is there a reason people use such large sizes for their primary keys? Seems like a waste to me...

  I have an Activity that will display a custom view made up of 2 parts. I want one part to be 1/3 of visible screen height, the other part to be 2/3. I can override onMeasure and use display metrics to find the height of the display, but this does not account for the battery bar or view title sizes. DisplayMetrics dm = new DisplayMetrics(); ((WindowManager)contxt.getSystemService(Context.WINDOW_SERVICE)).getDefaultDisplay().getMetrics(dm); int height = dm.heightPixels; How can I tell the height of the displayable area? • Where did the text of my .html file go in text edit on mac. [closed]

  I recently created a .html file in text edit on my mac (os x 10.5.8). I then opened that .html file in my browser and it showed the page i created just fine. I closed the .html file and text edit and refreshed the page. It still worked fine. Then i opened up the .html file in text edit again and all the text was gone (the page in the browser still works fine though). Where did all the text go?

• Cannot change font size /type in plots

  I recently had to re-install my operating system (Ubuntu). The only thing I did differently is that I installed Matlab on a separate partition, not the main Ubuntu partition. After re-installing, the fonts in my plots are no longer configurable. For example, if I ask the title font to be bold, it doesn't happen. I ran the sample code below on my computer and then on my colleague's computer and the 2 results are attached. This cannot be a problem with the code; rather in the settings of Matlab. Could somebody please tell me what settings I need to change? Thanks in advance for your help. • Trouble shooting openGL text textures not showing up correctly cross platform

  I have been tasked with solving a problem that is outside of my domain of knowledge and I was hoping I could get some troubleshooting advice from someone more experienced with openGL (I have very little experience with openGL). We are working on a cross platform application that is implemented in a common lisp implementation called ccl. In this application we have a need to display some 3D objects that display text. On the mac, all of the text displays fine but on the PC instead of displaying the text it displays some other texture. At first I thought that maybe the wrong texture was just being referenced so I tried changing the texture number but none of the textures in the list appeared to be the text (or if it was the texture was distorted and did not look like text). I know this problem is very vague and I am not looking for someone to post a solution, but I was wondering if people could suggest places I might look to try and get a handle on this issue.

All I want to do is have an image and then some text after that image, and be able to control accurately the amount of space between the image and the text. • java - reduce external jar file size

  Hi all, still learning, so be patient :) I've developed a module for a Java project. The module depends on external library (fastutil). the problem is, the fastutil.jar file is a couple of times heavier than the whole project itself (14 MB). I only use a tiny subset of the classes from the library. the module is now finished, and no-one is likely to extend it in future. is there a way I could extract only the relevant class to some fastutil_small.jar so that others don't have to download all this extra weight? there's probably a simple answer to this, but as I said, I still consider myself a noob.   In a DrScheme project, I'm using a MrEd editor-canvas% with text% and inserting a string from a literal in a Scheme file. This results in an extra blank line in the editor for each line of text I'm trying to insert. Is this a Windows vs. Unix linebreak problem?
