    I have created 5 local user in Window server 2008 R2 std in workgroup. This server is also Terminal Server. Is it possible to apply local user Policy (gpedit.msc ) per user wise?   • Kernel Memory Leak in Ubuntu 9.10?

    After some days of work (Using suspend-to-ram during the night) I notice I loose more and more available memory. Even when I close all applications the situation doesn't improve. I even went down to the command line and closed ALL running processes except the init process and the bash I'm working in. I unmounted all these ram disks which Ubuntu is using, I even unloaded all modules which could be unloaded. But still "free" tells me that 1 GB of RAM is used (without buffers/cache). In "top" there is no visible process which occupies all this memory. The only way to free the memory is restarting the machine. How can I find out where I lose all this memory? Is there a known "suspect" who can cause a problem like this? I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on a Dell Latitude E6500 (4 GB RAM) with the latest closed-source nvidia driver and Gnome with Compiz. The applications I use most of the time are firefox and eclipse. Any hints how I can find the problem? I'm not a kernel hacker so if the solution is patching the kernel or something like that then I might be out of the game...

  • Open a screen session inside a certain user on boot Ubuntu Server Linux

    I currently have a private server which I test my web apps on which runs Ubuntu Server 10.04 I also host a few game servers (rather than having wasted CPU time :-D) for some of my friends. These game servers I run in the game user account and each one has it's own screen session (so friends can ssh in and reboot the game server etc...). For example screen -R l4d2 runs ./start in the L4D2 folder. However if I reboot the server (which I have to do occasionally) all these sessions close and I have to manually create all the screen sessions and run the required games within them. Is there a way to set these screen sessions as Daemons or services or just boot on server start so they restart themselves on server reboot? Everything had been OK until I wrote to the terminal bzr branch lp:~s-team/ubuntutv/trunk ubuntu-tv. It says: Permission denied (publickey). ConnectionReset reading response for 'BzrDir.open_2.1', retrying Permission denied (publickey). bzr: ERROR: Connection closed: Unexpected end of message.     When clicking on the "My Downloads" button in Ubuntu One Music the application crashes with a segmentation fault, showing the following terminal messages: ** Message: console message: @0: The page at https://one.ubuntu.com/music/store/library displayed insecure content from http://media.one.ubuntu.com/media/img/favicon.ico. Errore di segmentazione (core dump creato) So i can't access my Ubuntu One Music downloads from inside Rhythmbox.

  • How to create SQL Server Express DB from SQL Server DB

    I have a SQL Server 2008 DB. I want to extract SOME tables (and associated schema, constraints, indexes, etc) and create a SQL Server Express DB. It isn't a sync of the target, we stomp on it. We ONLY need to do this in the file system (not across the wire). We are not fond of the synchronization stuff and at this point don't know how to run SSIS. We are a C# shop and a little code is ok. Like using the C# bulk import stuff, but that won't create the schema. Suggestions?

  • SQL Server Windows Auth Login not working

    I've had someone set up a domain controller on windows 2008 on one server, and sql server 2008 on another. The domain seems to be working fine, I'm logged on as a domain user on both servers, nothing seems to be a problem there. However, when I try to add a domain user/group to SQL Server Security (e.g. clicking ok from the create login screen) it says it can't find it (even though I've used the search to find the correct account in the first place), when I try to logon (even though I haven't added it yet) it says something about the account being part of an untrusted domain instead of saying I don't have permission to log on. Anyone have any ideas on what is set up incorrectly?

    I am pretty new to the Linux environment, and although I have been using Ubuntu Karmic desktop for development work, I have always prefered the GUI tools and very rarely use the terminal. I am about to launch a site (a VPS) which will be running Ubuntu server 8.04 LTS and Plesk. I want to install both the server (8.04 LTS) and Plesk in a 'chroot' on my Karmic desktop. I also want to test install some packages I have written for the server, and generally familiarize myself with the environment before I signup to the hosting service. I will be running a streamline server (no GUI), with only the following software: PHP Python mySQL PostgreSQL Apache Plesk Third party packages I developed In terms of mail, I think the hosting provider provides a mail service, so I dont know if I will need to run my own mail server. I will like some advice on the following: How can I install Ubuntu 8.0.4 server LTS in a chroot? How can I install Plesk in Ubuntu 8.0.4 server LTS (from the command line) Can anyone recommend how I back up the remote server when I go live (i.e. what tools to use)?. I will need to back up both databases, as well as some config data and installation packages

  • How do I redirect the kernel console output on Ubuntu 10.04

    When I reboot my Ubuntu 10.04 nodes, I'd like to be able to see the kernel boot messages when connecting to the IPMI interfaces using Serial Over LAN mode (ttyS0). What do I need to do to be able to redirect these messages to ttyS0? Ideally, I'd like them to also still appear in the usual place (tty0, I think) for when I plug a monitor directly into the box.

  • Mounting a drive in Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala)

    I have just installed Ubuntu on a machine that previously had XP installed on it. The machine has 2 HDD (hard disk drives). I opted to install Ubuntu completely over XP. I am new to Linux, and I am still learning how to navigate teh file structure. However, AFAICT), there is only one drive. I want to be able to store programs etc on the first drive, and store data (program output etc) on the second drive. It appears Ubuntu is not aware that I have 2 drives (on XP, these were drives C and D). How can I mount the second drive (ideally, I want to do this automatically on login, so that the drive is available to me whenever I login - withou manual intervention from me) In XP, I could refer to files on a specific drive by prefixing with the drive letter (e.g. c:\foobar.cpp and d:\foobar.dat). I suspect the notation on ubuntu is different. How may I specify specific files on different drives? Last but notbthe least (a bit unrelated to previous questions). This relates to direcory structure again. I am a developer (C++ for desktops and PHP for websites), I want to install the following apps/ libraries. i). Apache 2.2 ii). PHP 5.2.11 iii). MySQL (5.1) iv). SVN v). Netbeans vi). C++ development tools (gcc, gdb, emacs etc) vii). QT toolkit viii). Some miscellaeous scientific software (e.g. www.r-project.org, www.gnu.org/software/octave/) I would be grateful if a someone can recommend a directory layout for these applications. Regarding development, I would also be grateful if someone could point out where to store my project and source files i.e: (i) *.cpp, *.hpp, *.mak files for cpp projects (ii) individual websites On my XP machine the layout for C++ dev was like this: c:\dev\devtools (common libs and headers etc) c:\dev\workarea (root folder for projects) c:\dev\workarea\c++ (c++ projects) c:\dev\workarea\websites (web projects) I would like to create a similar folder structure on the linux machine, but its not clear whether to place these folders under /, /usr, /home or swomewhere else (there seems to be abffling number of choices, so I want to get it "right" first time - i.e having a directory structure that most developer use, so it is easier when communicating with other ubuntu/linux developers)
