Routing between two networks on linux?

I got stuck with one problem I cant find solution. I have linux pc with two NIC. first nic (eth1) is connected to public ip (probably switch or whatever, doesnt really mater) so eth1 is connected to wan and another eth0 that I connected to switch and make it a lan nic. configuration: eth1 ip address 88.200.1xx.xxx //xxx's are cuz of security reasons eth0 ip address 192.168.1.1 wan ------ [eth1 (linux PC) eth0]<----[switch]<---- [eth1 (PC1)] Now I want to connect this two networks, so PC1 can access linux PC and wan. I think I know how to do it but I cant confiugre it right. This is what I tried: I turend on ip forwarding (for sure) I set eth1 default gw to the right ip on the wan I tried to set eth0 default gw to the same ip (but i couldnt) What or how can I do this, I was trying with linux route command, but I got stuck. Please help.

PFSence VPN Routing

We use PFSense firewalls at three installations with the following LAN networks: 1.) Datacenter #1: 10.0.0.0/16 2.) Datacenter #2: 10.1.0.0/16 3.) HQ: 10.2.0.0/16 All of these locations are linked via an IPSEC tunnel that works properly. Hosts in any of the above networks can communicate with hosts in any other of the above networks. Now, for our laptops etc. we established a road warrior network 10.3.0.0/16 and have implemented OpenVPN to link the laptops etc. to Datacenter #1. This works great too, so our laptops can connect and communicate with any host in Datacenter #1 (anything on 10.0.0.0/16) The problem is the laptops can't communicate with any hosts that Datacenter #1 can reach by its IPSEC tunnel to Datacenter #2 (and/or the HQ for that matter). Does anyone know what to do configuration wise on the PFSense box in Datacenter #1 to configure to route packets received on the OpenVPN tunnel to Datacenter #2 over the IPSEC tunnel? It could be a setting on the OpenVPN or some sort of static route or some such. Any ideas?

Amazon EC2 + SSL Godaddy are not routing properly in HTTPS

I have an Amazon EC2 + SSL just installed on GoDaddy. I have successfully managed to install it and get the green https on the main domain https://www.example.com however it doesn't any https://www.example.com/something but the route works under http://www.example.com I am using an .htacess file for some rewrite. Options -MultiViews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^ index.php [L] the Ec2 instance is ubuntu if that helps in anyway.

Routing between same networks

I have two different sites: NetA has a subnet 192.168.2.0/24 NetB has 192.168.1.0/24. The two sites connect each other via IPsec VPN with fortigate devices. I need to move a server with IP address 192.168.2.240 from NetA to NetB and I cannot change its IP address due to some specific reasons. My question is; if I move that server from NetA to NetB, is it possible to reach that server from NetA?

Its been a long time since I blogged. Primarily due to Tech Ed India, the ongoing Great Indian Developer Summit (GIDS 2010) and the related travels. However, here is a quick post with a few updates. Visual Studio 2010 RTM can be downloaded from MSDN Visual Studio site If you are doing Silverlight 4 development with Visual studio, then you can download the Silverlight 4 Tools RC2 for Visual Studio Then, if you are developing with WCF RIA Services, you can download the WCF RIA Services RC 2 for SL4 and VS 2010 And finally, if you want to use WCF RIA Services in ASP.NET you would require the Domain DataSource control. Also, to use some of the additional Service Utility tools, you would require the WCF RIA Services Toolkit. You can download the same from WCF RIA Services Toolkit April 2010 Once you have installed all the above, you should be able to see the following in your add-remove programs WCF RIA Services v1.0 for Visual Studio 2010 (Version 4.0.50401.0) WCF RIA Services Toolkit (Version 4.0.50401.0) Microsoft Silverlight (Version 4.0.50401.0) Microsoft Silverlight 4 SDK (Version 4.0.50401.0) Also, you would need the Expression Blend 4 for designing the apps for Silverlight 4. Book Review: Professional WCF 4

My Investigation of WCF internals have set the right stage to revisit Professional WCF 4 by Pablo Cibraro, Kurt Claeys, Fabio Cozzolino and Johann Grabner. In this book, the authors dive deep into all aspects of the WCF API in a reading targeted towards intermediate and advanced developers. Book quality so far as presentation, code completeness, content clarity and organization was superb. The authors have taken a hands-on approach to thoroughly covering the WCF 4.0 API with three chapters totaling 100+ pages completely dedicated to business cases with downloadable source code readily available. Chapter 1 outlines SOA best-practice considerations. Next three chapters take a top-down approach to the WCF API covering service and data contracts, bindings, clients, instancing and Workflow Services followed by another carefully-thought three chapters covering the security options available via the WCF API. In conclusion, Professional WCF 4.0 provides a thorough coverage of the WCF API and is a recommended read for anybody looking to reinforce their understanding of the various features available in the WCF framework. Http Modules are called on every request when using mvc/routing module

I am developing a http module that hooks into the FormsAuthentication Module through the Authenticate event. While debugging i noticed that the module (and all other modules registered) gets hit every single time the client requests a resource (also when it requests images, stylesheets, javascript files (etc.)). This happens both when running on a IIS 7 server in integrated pipeline mode, and debugging through the webdev server (in non- integrated pipeline mode) As i am developing a website with a lot images which usually wont be cached by the client browser it will hit the modules a lot of unnessecary times. I am using MVC and its routing mechanishm (System.Web.Routing.UrlRoutingModule). When creating a new website the runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests attribute for the IIS 7 (system.webServer) section is per default set to true in the web.config, which as the name indicates make it call all modules for every single request. If i set the runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests attribute to false, no modules will get called. It seems that the reason for this is because of the routing module or mvc (dont know excactly why), which causes that the asp.net (aspx) handler never gets called and therefore the events and the modules never gets called (one time only like supposed). I tested this by trying to call "mydomain.com/Default.aspx" instead of just "mydomain.com/" and correctly it calls the modules only once like it is supposed. How do i fix this so it only calls the modules once when the page is requested and not also when all other resources are requested ? Is there some way i can register that all requests should fire the asp.net (aspx) handler, except requests for specific filetype extensions ? Of course that wont fix the problem if i choose to go with urls like /content/images/myimage123 for the images (without the extension). But i cant think of any other way to fix it. Is there a better way to solve this problem ? I have tried to set up an ignoreRoute like this routes.IgnoreRoute("content/{*pathInfo}"); where the content folder contains all the images, javascripts and stylesheets in seperat subfolders, but it doesnt seem to change anything. I can see there a many different possibilites when setting up a handler but I cant seem to figure out how it should be possible to setup one that will make it possible to use the routing module and have urls like /blog/post123 and not call the modules when requesting images, javascripts and stylesheets (etc.). Hope anyone out there can help me ? Martin

ASP.NET MVC hosting problem, routing, handlers and modules

Hi, This is one of them again, hosting with fasthosts. I recently purchased a windows developer package from them. When I tried to deploy my ASP.NET 3.5 MVC project, which was working fine with the same host on a reseller account, it is not working. The reason to move from reseller to a normal Windows Developer package is, the MS-SQL server database is too expensive in a reseller account, strange! I contact them, and they are saying they upgraded the control panel. The technical support said, I need to disable the Modules and Handlers from the web.config file. Also I need to deploy them as .dll files. I am not sure how to do that. The website is partially working now. I think the problem is now with the routing. I have not deployed any .dlls apart from the System.Web.Mvc.dll, System.Web.Routing.dll and System.Web.Abstractions.dll. I have not got a clue on how to deploy the Modules and Handlers. The code that I commented on the web.config file is as follows.  Anybody got any ideas please. Thank you for your time.

I have a page that uses routing and it works fine under Visual web developer. But when I deployed to IIS 7. The page that uses routing doesn't seem to recognize the user is logged in. I think I read about this but had not seen it until now. Hope there is a fix! Environment deployed too is ASP.NET 3.5 SP1, SQL SERVER 2008, and IIS 7 integrated. Thanks.

ASP.NET Routing not working on IIS 7.0

I ran into a nasty little problem today when deploying an application using ASP.NET 4.0 Routing to my live server. The application and its Routing were working just fine on my dev machine (Windows 7 and IIS 7.5), but when I deployed (Windows 2008 R1 and IIS 7.0) Routing would just not work. Every time I hit a routed url IIS would just throw up a 404 error: This is an IIS error, not an ASP.NET error so this doesn’t actually come from ASP.NET’s routing engine but from IIS’s handling of expressionless URLs. Note that it’s clearly falling through all the way to the StaticFile handler which is the last handler to fire in the typical IIS handler list. In other words IIS is trying to parse the extension less URL and not firing it into ASP.NET but failing. As I mentioned on my local machine this all worked fine and to make sure local and live setups match I re-copied my Web.config, double checked handler mappings in IIS and re-copied the actual application assemblies to the server. It all looked exactly matched. However no workey on the server with IIS 7.0!!! Finally, totally by chance, I remembered the runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests attribute flag on the modules key in web.config and set it to true: <system.webServer> <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"> <add name="ScriptCompressionModule" type="Westwind.Web.ScriptCompressionModule,Westwind.Web" /> </modules> </system.webServer> And lo and behold, Routing started working on the live server and IIS 7.0! This seems really obvious now of course, but the really tricky thing about this is that on IIS 7.5 this key is not necessary. So on my Windows 7 machine ASP.NET Routing was working just fine without the key set. However on IIS 7.0 on my live server the same missing setting was not working. On IIS 7.0 this key must be present or Routing will not work. Oddly on IIS 7.5 it appears that you can’t even turn off the behavior – setting runtAllManagedModuleForAllRequests="false" had no effect at all and Routing continued to work just fine even with the flag set to false, which is NOT what I would have expected. Kind of disappointing too that Windows Server 2008 (R1) can’t be upgraded to IIS 7.5. It sure seems like that should have been possible since the OS server core changes in R2 are pretty minor. For the future I really hope Microsoft will allow updating IIS versions without tying them explicitly to the OS. It looks like that with the release of IIS Express Microsoft has taken some steps to untie some of those tight OS links from IIS. Let’s hope that’s the case for the future – it sure is nice to run the same IIS version on dev and live boxes, but upgrading live servers is too big a deal to do just because an updated OS release came out. Moral of the story – never assume that your dev setup will work as is on the live setup. It took me forever to figure this out because I assumed that because my web.config on the local machine was fine and working and I copied all relevant web.config data to the server it can’t be the configuration settings. I was looking everywhere but in the .config file forever before getting desperate and remembering the flag when I accidentally checked the intellisense settings in the modules key. Never assume anything. The other moral is: Try to keep your dev machine and server OS’s in sync whenever possible. Maybe it’s time to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 after all. The client app uses a proxy generated using SVCUtil. calling the service reads the credentials from a configuration file (not the app.config file, in fact the client application does not have a *.config file).

Does anybody actually use FaultReasonText to localize faults from WCF services?

There is a localization mechanism in WCF that enables one to localize faults returned to client, via a FaultReasonText object that's a part of the fault. The way this is done is that you pass all possible translations of the fault's message inside a collection in the FaultReasonText. This, I understand, is based on SOAP v1.2. Does anyone actually use this mechanism? Isn't this wasteful in terms of bandwidth? Why would you send all possible translations to a client that is (probably) only interested in a specific language?

I've added WCF Service reference to my asp.net application and configured that reference to support asncronious calls. But from UI i'm not supposed to call the service methods directly. I need to call all service methods from a static class and from code behind file i need to invoke the static method. In this scenario what exactlly do i need to do?

How to define a batching routing service in WCF

I have designed a custom silverlight wcf channel that I want to leverage to selectively batch calls from the client to the server and possibly to cache on the client and short circuit calls. So far I'm just using this channel as a transport and sending the generic WCF messages that result to the WCF router service example here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc500646.aspx?pr=blog to prototype this on the server side. So my scenario looks like this: IFooClient-MyTransportChannel-IRouterService-IFooService-Return I now need to be able to send more than one message per call through the router and carve them up and service them on the server side. Since this is just an experiment and I'm taking baby steps I will dispatch and service all the messages right away on the server side and return the batch of results. Immediately I noticed that simply making the router interface take Message[] instead of Message doesn't work due to serialization problems. I guess this makes sense. I'm not sure soap envelopes can contain other soap envelopes etc. Is there a simple way to take a collection of WCF Message objects and send them to a single method on a service where they can be split up and forwarded as appropriate? If not I'd love suggestions on how I should approach this. I want to have minimal work to do on the router service side so the goal should be to get as close to being able to "slice and forward" as possible.

IP address spoofing using Source Routing

With IP options we can specify the route we want an IP packet to take while connecting to a server. If we know that a particular server provides some extra functionality based on the IP address can we not utilize this by spoofing an IP packet so that the source IP address is the privileged IP address and one of the hosts on the Source Routing is our own. So if the privileged IP address is x1 and server IP address is x2 and my own IP address is x3. I send a packet from x1 to x2 which is supposed to pass through x3. x1 does not actually send the packet. It is just that x2 thinks the packet came from x1 via x3. Now in response if x2 uses the same routing policy (as a matter of courtesy to x1) then all packets would be received by x3. Will the destination typically use the same IP address sequences as specified in the routing header so that packets coming from the server pass through my IP where I can get the required information? Can we not spoof a TCP connection in the above case? Is this attack used in practice?

Unable to host WCF service correctly in IIS7

I have a WCF Service library written in .NET 4.0. I have a WCF application (in order to host this service in IIS) within the same solution. It contains the WCF library assembly reference and a service.svc file pointing to the service from the library along with a web.config that is a replica of the WCF service library's app.config. The WCF application is set to host the service in IIS7 (the virtual directory has been set). The same solution contains an ASP.NET Webforms solution to which I have added a service reference pointing to the WCF service I hosted in IIS (as mentioned). When i start an instance of this ASP.NET Web application, I get a message saying that "The WCF service has been hosted" and the ASP.NET application can access the data from it correctly. However, when i try and access this data via a service reference added to an MVC 2 Web Application on the same machine in a different solution (pointing to the service hosted in IIS), I get a "The remote server returned an error: (405) Method Not Allowed." protocol exception . However, the MVC application is able to access the service data if I manually invoke an instance of the WCF Application that I was using to host the WCF Service Library from the other solution. I am using VS2010 Beta 2 as my development IDE. I have been stuck with this issue for a while now. Any help would be appreciated. AspNetCompatibility in WCF Services – easy to trip up

This isn’t the first time I’ve hit this particular wall: I’m creating a WCF REST service for AJAX callbacks and using the WebScriptServiceHostFactory host factory in the service: <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Service="WcfAjax.BasicWcfService" CodeBehind="BasicWcfService.cs" Factory="System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebScriptServiceHostFactory" %> to avoid all configuration. Because of the Factory that creates the ASP.NET Ajax compatible format via the custom factory implementation I can then remove all of the configuration settings that typically get dumped into the web.config file. However, I do want ASP.NET compatibility so I still leave in: <system.serviceModel> <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true"/> </system.serviceModel> in the web.config file. This option allows you access to the HttpContext.Current object to effectively give you access to most of the standard ASP.NET request and response features. This is not recommended as a primary practice but it can be useful in some scenarios and in backwards compatibility scenerios with ASP.NET AJAX Web Services. Now, here’s where things get funky. Assuming you have the setting in web.config, If you now declare a service like this: [ServiceContract(Namespace = "DevConnections")] #if DEBUG [ServiceBehavior(IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults = true)] #endif public class BasicWcfService (or by using an interface that defines the service contract) you’ll find that the service will not work when an AJAX call is made against it. You’ll get a 500 error and a System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException System error. Worse even with the IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults enabled you get absolutely no indication from WCF what the problem is. So what’s the problem? The issue is that once you specify aspNetCompatibilityEnabled=”true” in the configuration you *have to* specify the AspNetCompatibilityRequirements attribute and one of the modes that enables or at least allows for it. You need either Required or Allow: [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Required)] without it the service will simply fail without further warning. It will also fail if you set the attribute value to NotAllowed. The following also causes the service to fail as above: [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.NotAllowed)] This is not totally unreasonable but it’s a difficult issue to debug especially since the configuration setting is global – if you have more than one service and one requires traditional ASP.NET access and one doesn’t then both must have the attribute specified. This is one reason why you’d want to avoid using this functionality unless absolutely necessary. WCF REST provides some basic access to some of the HTTP features after all, although what’s there is severely limited. I also wish that ServiceActivation errors would provide more error information. Getting an Activation error without further info on what actually is wrong is pretty worthless especially when it is a technicality like a mismatched configuration/attribute setting like this.© Rick Strahl, West Wind Technologies, 2005-2010Posted in ASP.NET WCF AJAX

How do I properly host a WCF Data Service in IIS? Why am I getting errors?

I'm playing around with WCF Data Services (ADO.NET Data Services). I have an entity framework model pointed at the AdventureWorks database. When I debug my svc file from within Visual Studio, it works great. I can say /awservice.svc/Customers and get back the ATOM feed I expect. If I publish the service (hosted in an ASP.NET web application) to IIS7, the same query string returns a 500 fault. The root svc page itself works as expected and successfully returns ATOM. The /Customers path fails. Sorry for the stupid question, but what does "RIA Services" layer bring into your app if you already have "Silverlight <-- WCF Service <-- Business Logic <-- Entity Framework Model <-- Database"? Authentication? Validation? Is it relly asset for you? At the moment the only thing I see: with RIA services usage you don't need to host WCF service manually and don't need to configure any references on the client side (clien side == Silverlight application). Probably I don't know some very useful features of the RIA Services? So could you please point me to the good doc for that? Many thanks.
