  • C# implementation of PushbackInputStream

    - by Mark Heath
I need a C# implementation of Java's PushbackInputStream. I have made my own very basic one, but I wondered if there was a well tested and decently performing version already available somewhere. As it happens I always push back the same bytes I read so really it just needs to be able to reposition backwards, buffering up to a number of bytes I specify. (like Java's BufferedInputStream with the mark and reset methods). Update: I should add that I can't simply reposition the stream as CanSeek may be false. (e.g. when the input steam is a NetworkStream)

  • Best ASP.NET Background Service Implementation

    - by Jason N. Gaylord
What's the best implementation for more than one background service in an ASP.NET application? Timer Callback Timer timer = new Timer(new TimerCallback(MyWorkCallback), HttpContext, 5000, 5000); Thread or ThreadPool Thread thread = new Thread(Work); thread.IsBackground = true; thread.Start(); BackgroundWorker BackgroundWorker worker = new BackgroundWorker(); worker.DoWork += new DoWorkEventHandler(DoMyWork); worker.RunWorkerCompleted += new RunWorkerCompletedEventHandler(DoMyWork_Completed); worker.RunWorkerAsync(); Caching like http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/ASPNETService.aspx (located in Jeff Atwood's post here) I need to run multiple background "services" at a given time. One service may run every 5 minutes where another may be once a day. It will never be more than 10 services running at a time.

  • The best alternative for String flyweight implementation in Java

    - by Dan
My application is multithreaded with intensive String processing. We are experiencing excessive memory consumption and profiling has demonstrated that this is due to String data. I think that memory consumption would benefit greatly from using some kind of flyweight pattern implementation or even cache (I know for sure that Strings are often duplicated, although I don't have any hard data in that regard). I have looked at Java Constant Pool and String.intern, but it seems that it can provoke some PermGen problems. What would be the best alternative for implementing application-wide, multithreaded pool of Strings in java?

  • Extend MySQL implementation of PiP Algorithm?

    - by Mike
I need to make a point in polygon MySQL query. I already found these two great solutions: http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?23,286574,286574 MySQL implementation of ray-casting Algorithm? But these functions can only check if one point is inside a poly. I have a query where the PiP part should only be one part of the query and check for x points inside a polygon. Something like this: $points = list/array/whatever of points in language of favour SELECT d.name FROM data AS d WHERE d.name LIKE %red% // just bla bla // how to do this ? AND $points INSIDE d.polygon AND myWithin( $points, d.polygo ) // or UPDATE I tried it with MBR functions like this: SET @g1 = GeomFromText('Polygon((13.43971 52.55757,13.41293 52.49825,13.53378 52.49574, 13.43971 52.55757))'); SET @g2 = GeomFromText('Point(13.497834 52.540489)'); SELECT MBRContains(@g1,@g2); G2 should NOT be inside G1 but MBR says it is.

  • Simple Physics Simulation in java not working.

    - by Static Void Main
Dear experts, I wanted to implement ball physics and as i m newbie, i adapt the code in tutorial http://adam21.web.officelive.com/Documents/JavaPhysicsTutorial.pdf . i try to follow that as i much as i can, but i m not able to apply all physical phenomenon in code, can somebody please tell me, where i m mistaken or i m still doing some silly programming mistake. The balls are moving when i m not calling bounce method and i m unable to avail the bounce method and ball are moving towards left side instead of falling/ending on floor**, Can some body recommend me some better way or similar easy compact way to accomplish this task of applying physics on two ball or more balls with interactivity. here is code ; import java.awt.*; public class AdobeBall { protected int radius = 20; protected Color color; // ... • How do I pass an ArrayList to method that takes a collection as an input

    - by Ankur
I want to pass some ArrayList X into method a(Collection someCol) that takes Collection as an input. How can I do this? I thought an ArrayList was a Collection and thus I should be able to "just do it" but it seems that Collection is an interface and ArrayList implements this interface. Is there something I can do to make this work ... if you understand the theory that would also help me and possibly lots of other people. Thanks

  • Centralizing Messagebox handling for application

    - by DRapp
I'm wondering how others deal with trying to centralize MessageBox function calling. Instead of having long text embedded all over the place in code, in the past (non .net language), I would put system and application base "messagebox" type of messages into a database file which would be "burned" into the executable, much like a resource file in .Net. When a prompting condition would arise, I would just do call something like MBAnswer = MyApplication.CallMsgBox( IDUserCantDoThat ) then check the MBAnswer upon return, such as a yes/no/cancel or whatever. In the database table, I would have things like what the messagebox title would be, the buttons that would be shown, the actual message, a special flag that automatically tacked on a subsequent standard comment like "Please contact help desk if this happens.". The function would call the messagebox with all applicable settings and just return back the answer. The big benefits of this was, one location to have all the "context" of messages, and via constants, easier to read what message was going to be presented to the user. Does anyone have a similar system in .Net to do a similar approach, or is this just a bad idea in the .Net environment.

  • How is inheritance implemented at the memory level?

    - by cambr
Suppose I have class A { public: void print(){cout<<"A"; }}; class B: public A { public: void print(){cout<<"B"; }}; class C: public C { }; How is inheritance implemented at the memory level? Does C copy print() code to itself or does it have a pointer to the it that points somewhere in A part of the code? How does the same thing happen when we override the previous definition, for example in B (at the memory level)?

  • Spring 3.0 REST implementation or Jersey?

    - by hnilsen
Hi, SO! I'm currently trying to figure out which implementation of JSR-311 I'm going to recommend further up the food chain. I've pretty much narrowed it down to two options - Spring 3.0 with it's native support for REST - or use Sun's own Jersey (Restlets might also be an option). To me it doesn't seem to be much of a difference in the actual syntax, but there might be issues with performance that I haven't figured out yet. The service is meant to replace some heavy-duty EJB's and make a RESTful Webservice instead. The load is expected to be rather high, up in the 100k users per day (max) range, but will be seriously load balanced. Thanks for all your insights.

  • Why does OpenID look so hard to implement?

    - by user198729
I read through this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/741345/how-do-i-implement-direct-identity-based-openid-authentication-with-zend-openid Why does it look so complicated to implement? IMO, it's just to send request to a remote site and retrieve the response. What's the problem those OpenID libraries are dealing with?

  • Static assembly initialization

    - by ph0enix
I'm attempting to develop an Interceptor framework (in C#) where I can simply implement some interfaces, and through the use of some static initialization, register all my Interceptors with a common Dispatcher to be invoked at a later time. The problem lies in the fact that my Interceptor implementations are never actually referenced by my application so the static constructors never get called, and as a result, the Interceptors are never registered. If possible, I would like to keep all references to my Interceptor libraries out of my application, as this is my way of (hopefully) enforcing loose coupling across different modules. Hopefully this makes some sense. Let me know if there's anything I can clarify... Does anyone have any ideas, or perhaps a better way to go about implementing my Interceptor pattern? TIA, Jeremy

  • Good ACL implementation in Java

    - by yonconf
Hi All. I'm implementing a web based document management system and I'd like to implement ACLs in my system. My formal requirements are hierarchal permissions (documents inherit permissions from their folders) user groups (users can dynamically create groups and associate users with groups). Such groups can have permissions on objects in the system. My code will query permission on objects in two cases: 1. Manipulating a single document 2. Listing all documents where a manipulation is possible The latter requirement seems the achilles heel for Spring Security ACLs (their method seems likely to incur multiple DB hits for each document I manage) Anyone know of another ACL implementation? Thanks!

  • what is the underlying data structure of a set c++?

    - by zebraman
I would like to know how a set is implemented in C++. If I were to implement my own set container without using the STL provided container, what would be the best way to go about this task? I understand STL sets are based on the abstract data structure of a binary search tree. So what is the underlying data structure? An array? Also, how does insert() work for a set? How does the set check whether an element already exists in it? I read on wikipedia that another way to implement a set is with a hash table. How would this work?

  • Transparently storing class state without exposing implementation

    - by RoToRa
I have a model (MVC) class whose internal state (which basically contains of private int fields) I want to store. The program is running on Android (for now) so I need to store the in a Bundle, but I'll be using the same class later in a desktop application where I'll have to store the state some other way, so I can't reference Bundle directly in my class. So my question is: What is the best way to store (and retrieve) the state of a class without exposing it's implementation? The best I could think of removing the private access modifier so that the fields become package accessible and create read/write helper classes in the same package, but that somehow seems wrong.

  • Word Counter Implementation

    - by kenny
    Is there a better way than the following brute foce implementation of a c# word counting class? UPDATED CODE: Sorry! /// <summary> /// A word counting class. /// </summary> public class WordCounter { Dictionary<string, int> dictTest = new Dictionary<string, int> (); /// <summary> /// Enters a word and returns the current number of times that word was found. /// </summary> /// <param name="word">The word or string found.</param> /// <returns>Count of times Found() was called with provided word.</returns> public int Found ( string word ) { int count = 1; return dictTest.TryGetValue ( word, out count ) ? ++dictTest[word] : dictTest[word] = 1; } }

  • custom implementation of interface methods

    - by Renuka
Hello all, I have a doubt in this scenario, I have posted some example code here.... public interface a{ public void m1(); public void m2(); public void m3(); . . . public void m100(); } public class A implements a{ public void m3(){ // implementation code } // Here i need to implement only m3() method but not all 100 methods //basically i have to implement all the other 99 methods // but here i don't want to either implement or provide skeleton declarations for all //remaining.... what should i do for compiling this ???? } Could anyone help this?

  • Creating a CD auto-start dialog

    - by emilyshaun
For me, compact discs and these customized auto-start dialogs are somewhat outdated and waste... However, I have to create such a dialog as an index for a CD consisting of a few PDF files. Making one to work on Microsoft Windows is quite easy. As there might be users from different platforms (Unix, Apple,...), the question raises how to offer them such a (auto-starting) dialog as well. Java is of course an option, but I think it's overloaded and naturally too slow for this purpose. Now, I think of a single webpage that will appear in the local browser. Using all these web standards this could a very creative, light-weight approach working on most systems. Do you see any problems that might occur here? Probably, there is a different and more elegant solution to this issue?

  • strcat implementation

    - by skydoor
    I tried to implement the strcat by myself, and I found the strcat implementation from Wiki like this......but when I use it, there is segmentation fault. What's from with the code below? char * strcat(char *dest, const char *src) { size_t i,j; for (i = 0; dest[i] != '\0'; i++) ; for (j = 0; src[j] != '\0'; j++) dest[i+j] = src[j]; dest[i+j] = '\0'; return dest; }
