• Installing mysql on leopard: "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket"

  I migrated to a new machine and used migration assistant to copy across my files (which seemed to copy across the DBs) but I had to use macports to install Mysql (whereas last time I compiled from source via Dan Benjamin's guide). For some reason, mysql is intermittently throwing the following error; Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock' (2) It does this no matter what I try, which has included setting the socket in /opt/local/etc/mysql5/my.cnf. • iPhone Keychain Questions

  Some questions: * Is there some way to view the data present in the iPhone keychain? * The items an application adds, cannot be accessed by any other application, can it? * What is the purpose of the identifier and access group in the initialization? My guess is that the identifier is simply used to find items but I'm a little bit unsure of the access group. If the access group is assigned nil, all applications can access the items? If the access group is assigned X, could the items be accessed by another application with the same string X as access group or what is the purpose of the access group in this case? * Is the data in the keychain removed when the application is removed? If not, how do I achieve that? And finally: I can't get the KeychainItemWrapper (Apple example) to work. I've added the KeychainItemWrapper files to my project and when running it on the phone, an exception is thrown by SecItemAdd, saying that one or more parameters were not valid (result code -50). • Calling a method with an arg of Class<T> where T is a parameterized type

  I'm attempting to call a constructor method that looks like: public static SomeWrapper<T> method(Class<T> arg); When T is an unparameterized type like String or Integer, calling is straightforward: SomeWrapper<String> wrapper = method(String.class); Things get tricky when T is a parameterized type like List<String>. The following is not valid: SomeWrapper<List<String>> wrapper = method(List<String>.class); About the only thing I could come up with is: List<String> o = new ArrayList<String>(); Class<List<String>> c = (Class<List<String>>) o.getClass(); SomeWrapper<List<String>> wrapper = method(c); Surely there is an easier way that doesn't require the construction of an additional object?

• Help with inner content box margins/padding

  I am working on a layout for a new site, and I'm having some trouble achieving what I want with the CSS. First of all, I want everything to always stay within the view of the current browser window, with scroll being in my content and not the browser itself. I have an outermost DIV which acts as my "wrapper" for the site displayed centered, with a set width, and having 100% height of the bowser window. Inside of this I place a header and all of this works as intended in all interested browsers. However, once I place my actual content DIV inside this "wrapper" I am unable to define it to be the size I want. If I simply give it margins or padding to make up for the header I have absolutely positioned, the content will overflow and I can't set scroll. And if I try to set the size directly, there are no values I can put in that will work since the margins/padding will add to the size and it will now be bigger than the current browser window, and overflow. Are there any styles people can think of I can use on the wrapper/content DIV(s) to get the desired look? Here is a diagram illustrating the look I want.

  I'm new to MonoTouch and 9 times out of 10, when I try to run my MonoTouch app on the iPhone simulator (debug mode and regular), I receive a long error output that begins with the following message: Error connecting stdout and stderr (127.0.0.1:10001) Couldn't register com.yourcompany.[appnamehere] with the bootstrap server. Error: unknown error code. • Switching between iScroll and standard WebView Scrolling functionality

  I'm using iScroll 4 for my rather heavy iPhone web/Phonegap app and trying to find a way to switch between iScrolls scrolling functionality and standard "native" webview scrolling, basically on click. Why I want this is described below. My app has several different subpages all in one file. Some subpages have input fields, some don't. As we all know, iScroll + input fields = you're out of luck. I've wrapped iScrolls wrapper div (and all its functionality) around the one sub page where scrolling is crucial, and where there are no input fields. The other sections, I've simply placed outside this div, which gives these no scrolling functionality at all. I've of course tried wrapping all inside the wrapper and enabling/disabling scroll (shown below) but that didn't work me at all: myScroll.disable() myScroll.enable() By placing some sub pages outside the main scrolling area / iscroll div, I've disabled both iScrolls and the standard webview scrolling (the latter - which i guess iScroll does) which leaves me with only basic basic scrolling, hence basically no scrolling at all. One can move around vertically, but once you let go of the screen with, the "scrolling" stops. Quite naturally but alas so nasty. Therefore, I'm searching for a way to enable standard webview scrolling on the sub pages placed outside of iScroll's wrapper div. I've tried different approaches such as the one above and by using: document.removeEventListener('touchmove', preventDefault, false); document.removeEventListener('touchmove', preventDefault, true); But with no success. Sorry for not providing you guys with any hard code or demos to test out for yourselves, it's simply too much code and it would be presented so out of its context, nobody would be able to debug it. So, is there a way n javascript to do this, switching between iScroll scrolling functionality and standard "native" webview scrolling? I would rather not rebuild the entire DOM framework so a solution like the one described above would be preferable.

• Event Handling for MFC Dialog

  This is my second question of the day, pardon me. I am writing a wrapper library to communicate with a scanner device. The source code was in C++ MFC. I am converting it to a plain Dll which will be invoked from C#. So, I am using DllImport in C# to call the wrapper library. Now I am provided with MFC code and the library is a ActiveX Object, at least I think so. class CDpocx : public CWnd { } So in my wrapper library I will have an instance of CDpocx and will call it via C# P/Invoke. But the problem is CDpocx also throws some events which I need to catch. In traditional app, I would just attach an function with it. But How would I attach the events on non MFC class. • Scrolling down to next element via keypress & scrollTo plugin - jQuery

  I am using jQuery's scrollTo plugin to scroll up and down my page, using UP arrow and DOWN arrow. i have a bunch of div with class "screen", as so: <div class="screen-wrapper">...</div> What I am trying to do is, when i press UP or DOWN, the window scrolls to the next, or previous div with class of "screen". I have the keypresses taken care of. According to the plugin docs, to scroll a window, you use $.scrollTo(...); Here's the code I have: $(document).keypress(function(e){ switch (e.keyCode) { case 40: // down n = $('.screen-wrapper').next() $.scrollTo( n, 800 ); break; case 38: // up break; case 37: // left break; case 39: // right break; } }); And if it helps, here's the HTML div. The unmodifiable part of the task is easy as it can be achieved by Collections.unmodifiableList() so I only need to sort out the the lazy part. Surprisingly, google-collections doesn't have anything to offer; while LazyList from Apache Commons Collections does not support generics. I have found an attempt to build something on top of google-collections but it seems to be incomplete (e.g. does not support size()), outdated (does not compile with 1.0 final) and requiring some external classes, but could be used as a good starting point to build my own class. Is anybody aware of any good implementation of a LazyList? If not, which option do you think is better: write my own implementation, based on google-collections ForwardingList, similar to what Peter Maas did; write my own wrapper around Commons Collections LazyList (the wrapper would only add generics so I don't have to cast everywhere but only in the wrapper itself); just write something on top of java.util.AbstractList; Any other suggestions are welcome.

• TransactionScope question - how can I keep the DTC from getting involved in this?

  (I know the circumstances surrounding the DTC and promoting a transaction can be a bit mysterious to those of us not in the know, but let me show you how my company is doing things, and if you can tell me why the DTC is getting involved, and if possible, what I can do to avoid it, I'd be grateful.) I have code running on an ASP.Net webserver. We have one database, SQL 2008. Our data access code looks something like this-- We have a data access layer that uses a wrapper object for SQLConnections and SQLCommands. Typical use looks like this: void method1() { objDataObject = new DataAccessLayer(); objDataObject.Connection = SomeConnectionMethod(); SqlCommand objCommand = DataAccessUtils.CreateCommand(SomeStoredProc); //create some SqlParameters, add them to the objCommand, etc.... objDataObject.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel.ReadCommitted); objDataObject.ExecuteNonQuery(objCommand); objDataObject.CommitTransaction(); objDataObject.CloseConnection(); } So indeed, a very thin wrapper around SqlClient, SqlConnection etc. I want to run several stored procs in a transaction, and the wrapper class doesn't allow me access to the SqlTransaction so I can't pass it from one component to the next. This led me to use a TransactionScope: using (TransactionScope tx1 = new TransactionScope(TransactionScope.RequiresNew)) { method1(); method2(); method3(); tx1.Complete(); } When I do this, the DTC gets involved, and unfortunately our webservers don't have "allow remote clients" enabled in the MSDTC settings-- getting IT to allow that will be a fight. I'd love to avoid DTC becoming involved but can I do it? Can I leave out the transactional calls in methods1-3() and just let the TransactionScope figure it all out?

• CSS: how come html, body height: 100% is more then 100% ?!

  Hi, I want to create a zoom effect on some thumbs. But a soon as I over (or leave, btw) one of the child, the alert appears. Without the alert, the result is a very bugy animation. • Javascript function objects, this keyword points to wrong object

  I've got a problem concerning the javascript "this" keyword when used within a javascript functional object. I want to be able to create an object for handling a Modal popup (JQuery UI Dialog). The object is called CreateItemModal. Which i want to be able to instantiate and pass some config settings. One of the config settings. When the show method is called, the dialog will be shown, but the cancel button is not functioning because the this refers to the DOM object instead of the CreateItemModal object. How can I fix this, or is there a better approach to put seperate behaviour in seperate "classes" or "objects". I've tried several approaches, including passing the "this" object into the events, but this does not feel like a clean solution. • Edit Settings in web.config

  I didn't know how to title this question - I am making a request to PayPal's Express Payment API. I am using their dll that helps make the request and parse the response. The instructions for their code to work is to add you authorization credentials in the web.config file. I have done so. My problem is that I want to be able to edit these credentials that are being set dynamically ( probably get from SQL ) because we are going to allow different users to enter their API credentials. Sending the request to PayPal looks like this Dim wrapper As New SetExpressCheckoutReq() wrapper.SetExpressCheckoutRequest = request Dim service As New PayPalAPIInterfaceServiceService() Dim setECResponse As SetExpressCheckoutResponseType = service.SetExpressCheckout(wrapper) There's not much room in there to edit the header of the request , because PayPalAPIInterfaceServiceService() is defined in their dll and applies its own header based on the credentials in the web.config. So, my question is , is there a way to point in the web.config to another location when it looks in web.config? I'm not to sure this is possible , also is there any way to edit the header of a request that is defined in a dll without changing the dll (to stay pci compliant) The line in the web.config is here: <account apiUsername="****" apiPassword="****" apiSignature="****"/>

• absolute positioned element not getting 100% height

  hi here's my code (a bit simplified) <div id="wrapper" style="width:960px; margin:0 auto; position: relative;"> <img src="img/bg/wrapper.jpg" alt="" width="960" id="bg" style="position:absolute; top:0; left:0; z-index:0; height:100%;" /> <some more div></div> </div> here's my problem: if i give my image 100% height it works correctly in firefox/chrome (it stretches all allong its wrapper) while in explorer it inherits the page height!! causing an overheighted page. I tried with height=inherit but in firefox/chrome image doesn't stretch at all, in explorer the problem remains the same. Height=auto: the same as above in F/C + explorer doesn't stretch too. • Run a script with Apache2 in a certain directory

  I am trying to run WebMCP on an Apache2 server. It's got 2 executable files, which I have in /opt/webmcp/cgi-bin/webmcp.lua and /opt/webmcp/cgi-bin/webmcp-wrapper.lua If I run the wrapper from a position that is not /opt/webmcp/cgi-bin it says it cannot find webmcp.lua and gives a 500 error. If I run it from the correct directory it works. My server has webmcp.lua set as directoryindex and it's giving 500 error. It may be because of this problem? /opt/webmcp/cgi-bin/ is already set as documentroot, and is accessible by www-data.

You can /usr/share/dict/words for your dictionary of words. My solution consisted of using breadth first search to find a shortest path between two words.   Hello so I have been trying to get my website to run on mono (on ubuntu server) and I have followed these tutorials almost to the letter: However when my directory is not blank fastcgi logs reveal this: Notice Beginning to receive records on connection. I am not really sure what this means, and depending on what I do I can get another error that tells me the resource cannot be found: The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. • How can I pipe two Perl CORE::system commands in a cross-platform way?

  I'm writing a System::Wrapper module to abstract away from CORE::system and the qx operator. I have a serial method that attempts to connect command1's output to command2's input. I've made some progress using named pipes, but POSIX::mkfifo is not cross-platform. My specific questions: Is there an alternative to POSIX::mkfifo that is cross-platform? Win32 named pipes don't work, as you can't open those as regular files, neither do sockets, for the same reasons. 2. The above doesn't quite work; the two threads get spawned correctly, but nothing flows across the pipe. I suppose that might have something to do with pipe deadlocking or output buffering. What throws me off is that when I run those two commands in the actual shell, everything works as expected. Point 2 is solved; a -p fifo file test was not testing the correct file.

  I have two divs, one inside another. The outter one is called #wrapper, while the inner one is called #pad. Now #pad allows user input, and I have a javascript (jQuery) function that changes the content of #pad based on what the user input is. Sometimes, because of this function, #pad's content will cause the div to become more elongated than before. Now obviously I would wish for #wrapper to grow longer as well to accommodate this change in #pad's length.
