• How can I switch between windows of the same application?

  I often have more than ten windows open at the same time and some of them are of the same applications, notably gnome-terminal. Often when I am currently on one terminal, I just want to get to another terminal. With Alt-Tab you have to choose from windows of all the applications, which is a pain. Even with Gnome3 which groups windows by applications and gives preview of windows with Alt-` it isn't enough because it's hard to distinguish terminal windows from previews. You can only tell which terminal does what when the full view is shown in most cases. So is there an application/windowing system/gnome shortcut that shows you only other windows of the same application when you are switching?

The Conference room was filled with inquisitive minds. What we had in store for them was a detailed presentation about Oracle which was delivered by Zuko - Cluster Leader: Tech GB South Africa. The student’s many questions were all answered especially when we started addressing the opportunities we have and detailed information on our Graduate Programme. Our employees then came to talk about their experience. This allowed all the students to have an integrated learning experience. By inviting the students to walk around our Oracle Offices allowed them to see, talk, experience a bit of the culture and ask more questions. Here is some of the feedback from the attendees: Maxwell Moloi: “The open day truly served its purpose and exceeded expectations in the sense that I got to find out more about Oracle and all the different opportunities it has to offer.   i'm pleased to find place full of experts who can help me i'm new in programming ,and i went to course about C# basics + SQL i want to learn WPF to work on my own desktop application project i dont know how to start ..i'm lost sometimes i open VS2012 put contols here and there ..then i feel i miss information so i stop feel depressed other times i open books like WPF4.5 unleashed and after while i get bored of reading and complexed expressions i face other times i go to youtube watch some videos after all i dont do anything right .. i dont know how to start what are right steps to be professional in programming? should i revise what i took in C# basics and sql?? i wish you provide me with clear steps to begin successfully i'm sorry if my question is open or in wrong place forgive me thank you all

• Starting small custom development company, type of niches to target?

  This is kind of a new years thing for me as I want to be more entrepreneurial going forward with programming and this is kind of a general question for anyone who may share the same ambitions as me. I have experience with web programming and, although I work full time for a company doing programming, I have some freelance programmers that I work with / employ for small projects. I want to see about taking things to the next level as far as building a small company doing custom development. I'm just not sure how to figure out what niches to target as far as what type of apps to build as demos, etc. I was thinking mobile (maybe Android or Iphone) but am just curious if anyone has any advice / resources. A lot of "web development" seems to end up being just using a CMS like Joomla or Wordpress, for smaller sites, so I want to figure a way to steer clear of this crowd and find some opportunity with companies / entrepreneurs who actually need real programming development done to build apps. • What happened to GremCheck? Is there a viable replacement?

Thanks!] Hi all, I was a big fan of an app called "GremCheck" that was out a while back, that seems to have disappeared. It was a JavaScript included in a master page that placed an icon at the bottom of the page. It was used during testing. You could define your own tests, and the box could pop up per page and viewers would answer the questions you define (such as "Does this page have the correct title?", "Is the Grammar Correct", "Does the design look consistent"). This was useful for end-user tests groups and quick testing for developers if time was squeezed on full functional testing. Anyone know where GremCheck went, if I can get to it, and if there's anything out there that does something similar? Thanks for any help you can give!

• All around design book for a developer (Javascript dev)

  I have begun doing a lot of javascript development recently, mostly front-end but also using node.js. As I am currently in the transition from large company to startup, they expect me as a front end developer to know how to produce semi decent designs (Which I cannot) I am looking for a book (or set of screencasts) to give me some good well rounded advice on design. I know CSS, but my design are always awful looking, I also know nothing about Photoshop (and am on Linux and have no access to it) What are your picks? I am not looking to be a full time designer I would just like to be able to contribute.

• Is it important to obfuscate C++ application code?

  In the Java world, it seems to sometimes be a problem, but, what about C++? Are there different solutions? I was thinking about the fact that someone can replace the C++ library of a specific OS with a different version of the same library, but full of debug symbols to understand what my code does. IS tt a good thing to use standard or popular libraries? This can also happen with some dll library under Windows replaced with the "debug version" of that library. Is it better to prefer static compilation? In commercial applications, I see that for the core of their app they compile everything statically and for the most part the dlls (dynamic libraries in general) are used to offer some third party technologies like anti-piracy solutions (I see this in many games), GUI library (like Qt), OS libraries, etc. Is static compilation the equivalent to obfuscation in the Java world? In better terms, is it the best and most affordable solution to protect your code?

• Alternative to Google Adsense which has good international coverage

  I have a technical blog (programming related) which has around 500 visit per days, 70% are international visitors and 30% are from US/CA. Google Adsense disabled my account due to invalid clicks so I can't use them (no need to explain here, they suck hard and never respect and listen to the publishers' appeal) I have tried adbrite and recently using chitika but they almost give me nothing, e.g. chitika 13,865 Page Views 4 clicks $0.01 The performance is so poor even I don't want to mention about it. I am already putting a full top banner and a 350x200 box in article body. I am researching if any alternative would provide more revenue for my internation visitors or technical visitors. Thanks.

• How to correctly create a virtual file system?

  A task in my homework assignment asks me to create a virtual file system, mount it, and perform some operations on it. I am supposed to create a file of 10 MB whose bits are all set to 0, format it as ext3 and mount it. This is how I've done that: dd if=/dev/zero of=~/filesyst bs=10485760 count=1 sudo mkfs.ext3 ~/filesyst sudo mount –o loop ~/filesyst /media/fuse Even though I've used /dev/sero, the file i still full of gibberish characters (mostly at-signs). The permissions on /media/fuse are drw-rw-rw- (which are alright), but the permissions on the files inside it are something like this: d????????? ? ? ? ? ? lost+found -????????? ? ? ? ? ? secret_bin Where have I gone wrong?

• Two different websites in one remote hosting

  My client asked me that a website that is hosted in one server (and pointing there through a domain) should also be accessed (into a specific directory) from another domain, which is not pointing there. For example: http://www.foo.com, hosted at GoDaddy, with the full website http://www.bar.com, hosted at Bluehost, needs to access http://www.foo.com/bar, as if it was the http://www.bar.com's root. So, if anybody enters through http://www.bar.com, it should internally load http://www.foo.com/bar, without visually changing the url. I amb not sure if this is possible using .htaccess or anything like this. Could anybody show me some light? Thanks in advance

• All my bandwidth eaten up - report included

  I have my network bandwidth eaten up totally. Whenever I connect my network, without any application being opened it is always full. I have prepared report of iftop, nethogs and network system monitor. iftop and nethogs My host IP is 192.168.1.203 and all the rest are not known though I have tried to pin 192.168.1.105, it doesn't reply. If possible I would like to block the most disturbing IP which is 192.168.1.105 to block it. but don't know how.

• Keyboard settings for a Mac+PC world

  SharePoint, WCF and Azure Trainings: more information I’m one of those weridos who lives in a Mac+PC world. I write code for both iOS and Windows platforms. I also travel quite a bit, and airlines and airport security are starting to weigh your carry ons, and beginning to frown on the powerplant of batteries you need to carry to power SharePoint on an airplane. This means, my main work machine has to be a Macbook Pro, since it is the only machine that can do both XCode and Visual Studio Virtualized and SharePoint virtualized nicely. The problem this causes of course, is you will literally pull your hair out when dealing with keyboard/shortcut differences. So here is my work setup, Running Mac for all my normal work Virtualizing using VMWare Fusion – and sometimes I move these VMs to my windows server so I can run them on VMware workstation. • kde keyboard problems Ubuntu 12.04

  I have Unity & Gnome 3.4 installed successfully. All Dell keyboard keys work perfectly with both. I installed kde - full via terminal. Everything is working great except for the hotkeys. No calculator, no Mute, nothing. I check which keyboard is selected and choose Dell Multimedia USB Keyboard. No luck. How do I get my Dell keyboard to work with kde - the same keyboard that works with Unity & Gnome 3.4. Thanks in advance for any advice.
