  • Using Parallel Extensions with ThreadStatic attribute. Could it leak memory?

    I'm using Parallel Extensions fairly heavily and I've just now encountered a case where using thread locla storrage might be sensible to allow re-use of objects by worker threads. As such I was lookign at the ThreadStatic attribute which marks a static field/variable as having a unique value per thread. It seems to me that it would be unwise to use PE with the ThreadStatic attribute without any guarantee of thread re-use by PE. That is, if threads are created and destroyed to some degree would the variables (and thus objects they point to) remain in thread local storage for some indeterminate amount of time, thus causing a memory leak? Or perhaps the thread storage is tied to the threads and disposed of when the threads are disposed? But then you still potentially have threads in a pool that are longed lived and that accumulate thread local storage from various pieces of code the threads are used for. Is there a better approach to obtaining thread local storage with PE? Thankyou.

I want to write a c# code (or use some code from the net) that configures the number of possible remotely and simultaneously connected local users to TS to be some N. Is it even possible?   • JUnit: 4.8.1 "Could not find class"

    Ok, I am like other and new to jUnit and having a difficult time trying to get it working. I have searched the forum but the answers provided; I am just not getting. If anyone out there could lend me a hand I would greatly appreciate it. Let me provide the basics: OS: mac OS X.6 export JUNIT_HOME="/Developer/junit/junit4.8.1" export CVSROOT="/opt/cvsroot" export PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/localmysql/bin:/opt/PalmSDK/Current/bin/:/usr/local/mysql/bin:$PATH:$JUNIT_HOME:$CVSROOT" export CLASSPATH="$CLASSPATH:$JUNIT_HOME/junit-4.8.1.jar:$JUNIT_HOME" I can compile a test class from a java file, however when I try to then run the test java org.junit.runner.JUnitCore MyTest.class I get the following: JUnit version 4.8.1 Could not find class: MyTest.class Time: 0.001 OK (0 tests) Now I have been in the directory with the MyTest.class which is just somewhere in my file system, I tried moving the source folder to the "junit" folder and the "junit/junit4.8.1" folder and the same result.   • Appending empty query string param to the URL in Rails

    Is there a way to append something to the query string with no value set? I would like to see this kind of URL being generated: http://local/things?magic. What I'm looking for is when the user goes to http://local/other?magic then every URL in the generated page would contain magic in the end. Following code is almost a solution but it gives me http://local/things?magic=. There is an extra = that I don't want there. def default_url_options(options) if params.has_key?("magic") { :magic => "" } end end Setting { :magic => nil } will remove the magic entirely from the generated URLs.

  • Communities - The importance of exchange and discussion

    Communication with your environment is an essential part of everyone's life. And it doesn't matter whether you are actually living in a rural area in the middle of nowhere, within the pulsating heart of a big city, or in my case on a wonderful island in the Indian Ocean. The ability to exchange your thoughts, your experience and your worries with another person helps you to get different points of view and new ideas on how to resolve an issue you might be confronted with. Benefits of community work What happens to be common sense in your daily life, also applies to your work environment. Working in IT, or ICT as it is called in Mauritius, requires a lot of reading and learning. Not only during your lectures at the university but with your colleagues in a project assignment and hopefully with 'unknown' pals in the universe of online communities. At least I can say that I learned quite a lot from other developers code, their responses in various forums, their numerous blog articles, and while attending local user group meetings. When I started to work as a professional software developer (or engineer some may say) years ago I immediately checked the existence of communities on the programming language, the database technology and other vital information on software development in general. Luckily, it wasn't too difficult to find. My employer had a subscription of the monthly magazines and newsletters of a national organisation which also run the biggest forum in that area. Getting in touch with other developers and reading their common problems but also solutions was a huge benefit to my growth. Within three years I was listed as a conference speaker at the annual developer's conference and provided several sessions on different topics during consecutive years. Back in 2004, I took over the responsibility and management of the monthly meetings of a regional user group, and organised it for more than two years. Furthermore, I was invited to the newly-founded community program of Microsoft Germany (Community Leader/Insider Program - CLIP). My website on Active FoxPro Pages was nominated in the second batch of online communities. Due to my community work and providing advice to others, I had the honour to be awarded as Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) - Visual Developer for Visual FoxPro in the years 2006 and 2007. It was a great experience to meet with other like-minded people and I'm really grateful for that. Just in case, more details are listed in my Curriculum Vitae. But this all changed when I moved to Mauritius... Cyber island Mauritius? During the first months in Mauritius I was way too busy to think about community activities at all. First of all, there was the new company that had to be set up, the new staff had to be trained and of course the communication work-flows and so on with the project managers back in Germany had to be sorted out, too. Second, I had to get a grip of my private matters like getting the basics for my new household or exploring the neighbourhood, and last but not least I needed a break from the hectic and intensive work prior to my departure. As soon as the sea literally calmed down, I started to have conversations with my colleagues about communities and user groups. Sadly, it turned out that there were none, or at least no one was aware of any at that time. Oh oh, what did I do? Anyway, having this kind of background and very positive experience with off-line and on-line activities I decided for myself that some day I'm going to found a community in Mauritius for all kind of IT/ICT-related fields. The main focus might be on software development but not on a certain technology or methodology. It was clear to me that it should be an open infrastructure and anyone is welcome to join, to experience, to share and to contribute if they would like to. That was the idea at that time... Ok, fast-forward to recent events. At the end of October 2012 I was invited to an event called Open Days organised by Microsoft Indian Ocean Islands together with other local partners and resellers. There I got in touch with local Technical Evangelist Arnaud Meslier and we had a good conversation on communities during the breaks. Eventually, I left a good impression on him, as we are having chats on Facebook or Skype irregularly. Well, seeing that my personal and professional surroundings have been settled and running smooth, having that great exchange and contact with Microsoft IOI (again), and being really eager to re-animate my intentions from 2007, I recently founded a new community: Mauritius Software Craftsmanship Community - #MSCC It took me a while to settle down with the name but it was obvious that the community should not be attached to one single technology, like ie. .NET user group, Oracle developers, or Joomla friends (these are fictitious names). There are several other reasons why I came up with 'Craftsmanship' as the core topic of this community. The expression of 'engineering' didn't feel right with the fields covered. Software development in all kind of facets is a craft, and therefore demands a lot of practice but also guidance from more experienced developers. It also includes the process of designing, modelling and drafting the ideas. Has to deal with various types of tests and test methodologies, and of course should be focused on flexible and agile ways of acting. In order to meet and to excel a customer's request for a solution. Next, I was looking for an easy way to handle the organisation of events and meeting appointments. Using all kind of social media platforms like Google+, LinkedIn, Facebook, Xing, etc. I was never really confident about their features of event handling. More by chance I stumbled upon Meetup.com and in combination with the other entities (G+ Communities, FB Pages or in Groups) I am looking forward to advertise and manage all future activities here: Mauritius Software Craftsmanship Community This is a community for those who care and are proud of what they do. For those developers, regardless how experienced they are, who want to improve and master their craft. This is a community for those who believe that being average is just not good enough. I know, there are not many 'craftsmen' yet but it's a start... Let's see how it looks like by the end of the year. There are free smartphone apps for Android and iOS from Meetup.com that allow you to keep track of meetings and to stay informed on latest updates. And last but not least, there will be a Trello workspace to collect and share ideas and provide downloads of slides, etc. Sharing is caring! As mentioned, the #MSCC is present in various social media networks in order to cover as many people as possible here in Mauritius. Following is an overview of the current networks: Twitter - Latest updates and quickies Google+ - Community channel Facebook - Community Page LinkedIn - Community Group Trello - Collaboration workspace to share and develop ideas Hopefully, this covers the majority of computer-related people in Mauritius. Please spread the word about the #MSCC between your colleagues, your friends and other interested 'geeks'. Your future looks bright Running and participating in a user group or any kind of community usually provides quite a number of advantages for anyone. On the one side it is very joyful for me to organise appointments and get in touch with people that might be interested to present a little demo of their projects or their recent problems they had to tackle down, and on the other side there are lots of companies that have various support programs or sponsorships especially tailored for user groups. At the moment, I already have a couple of gimmicks that I would like to hand out in small contests or raffles during one of the upcoming meetings, and as said, companies provide all kind of goodies, books free of charge, or sometimes even licenses for communities. Meeting other software developers or IT guys also opens up your point of view on the local market and there might be interesting projects or job offers available, too. A community like the Mauritius Software Craftsmanship Community is great for freelancers, self-employed, students and of course employees. Meetings will be organised on a regular basis, and I'm open to all kind of suggestions from you. Please leave a comment here in blog or join the conversations in the above mentioned social networks.   • python foursquare - SSL3 certificate verify failed

    I'm trying to make a userless request to the Foursquare API using Mike Lewis' Python wrapper - https://github.com/mLewisLogic/foursquare: client = foursquare.Foursquare(client_id=Client_ID, client_secret=Client_Secret) categs = client.venues.categories() Intermittently, I get a "Error connecting to Foursquare API" msg. Running a logger to catch a more detailed message produces: "SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed" This didn't use to happen and occurs both on my local Windows development machine and on a server running ubuntu. Am I missing something basic here about security certificates? The problem is intermittent and sometimes just leaving it a minute and retrying fixes the problem temporarily. I've downloaded the latest 20120716 version of the wrapper although in the code for init.py it still says API_VERSION = '20120608'. I'm using Python 2.73 and have also signed up for the Foursquare API key, using the id and secret in the above code. I listed the urls, using my local IP:8000 and tried using separate keys for the local and dev machines but this seems to make no difference. Help much appreciated. Thanks.

The SPNavigationNode class has a property called “Properties”, which allows us to add custom properties to the node.   • Wordpress + VMware CSS path problem

    I posted a similar question earlier today but this question is clearer. I want to locally develop my Wordpress websites (on my Mac) and test them in Internet Explorer (6,7,8) on Windows XP. I can get the MAMP welcome screen to show in Windows XP, so I know VMWare is doing it's thing. The local URL for my site (on my Mac) is: URL (http://d3creative:8888/) But the local URL under VMware/Internet Explorer is: URL (http://192.168.2.1:8888/d3creative/) This is the only way I can get it to show up, problem is all the CSS styles are referencing the local Mac URL (http://d3creative:8888/) So understandably the CSS isn't showing up. Is there a way to tell Windows that "http://192.168.2.1:8888/d3creative/" should equal "http://d3creative:8888/" I've tried editing the "hosts" file within in Windows XP and I've rebooted after making any changes, but nothing is working. My software: MAMP Pro (v1.8.2) Wordpress (v2.8.6) Windows XP (SP3) Internet Explorer (6, 7, 8) Any help would be much appreciated. Stephen Meehan

  • Wifi and 3G same time

    For my App I need Data from both, a local Network and the Internet. The local Network (Wifi) has no connection to the internet so I have to use the mobile connection (3G for Example). But whenever I connect to the local Network, 3G stopps. After asking the Samsung Service, there is no way to change that in the UI. But they couldn't tell me, if there is a programmable Interface for that. There is a mobile access point inside, so there is a way to connect a Wifi device to the Internet (which means that both, a wifi and a 3G connection is possible the same time in that way). But for my App the phone/tab has to connect to the existing Network and use the 3G for Internet. So this is my question here. Is there a way to connect to an existing Network and using 3G for Internet the same time?

  • Code working in jsFiddle but not in browser...

    I'm trying to run the following code, written on my local machine: http://www.jsfiddle.net/WShdx/3/ Functionality-wise (ignore the broken images in the previous and next buttons, and the wrongly-sized main images) the click/hover function is working properly in jsfiddle. However, on my local machine it's not working at all.   • When I add myself "vboxusers" group I an no longer in the "admins" group

    I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and I installed VirtualBox. This required me to add myself to the vboxusers group but when I add myself to vboxusers group I am no longer be in other groups and especially admins group! When I add myself back to admins group I no longer be am in the vboxusers group ! Commands that I used to add user to "vboxusers": usermod -G vboxusers myusername to add user back to admins group in single user mod: usermod -aG admin myusername

  • asp mvc textreader

    Hello, I am trying to use a textreader to retrieve data from a text file on a local machine. I have an upload routine to get the file for the reader to open. When I run the application locally, it works fine. When I publish my application to my server, I am getting a Could not find a part of the path error. I assume this error has to do with permission in that the server cannot read from the local file system, but I don't know the proper way to remedy this. do I set up the application to impersonate the user? I know I can't possibly set up each local users machine to allow the iusr account to access it. Thanks for any thoughts.

    Hi all, Im new on this project and am going to write, what i thought was a simple thing. A recursive function that writes nested xml elements in x levels (denoted by a variable). So far I have come up with this, but keeps getting a compile error. Please note that i have to generate new xml , not query existing xml: xquery version "1.0"; declare function local:PrintTest($amount) { <test> { let $counter := 0 if ($counter <= $amount ) then local:PrintTest($counter) else return $counter := $counter +1 } </test> }; local:PrintPerson(3) My error is: File Untitled1.xquery: XQuery transformation failed XQuery Execution Error! Unexpected token - " ($counter <= $amount ) t" I never understood xquery, and cant quite see why this is not working (is it just me or are there amazingly few resources on the Internet concerning XQuery?)

Is there a way I can remedy all this? I was thinking something like: git checkout --hard [commit before the merging] git dcommit # that to the svn? git rebase mybranch git dcommit But this doesn't seem to work. (I know I should a. working from a local tracking branch and b. have rebased rather than merged) I'm in the frantic / willing to send beer to respondents stage :)

  • Testing installation package in OpenSolaris

    Testing my "configure - make - make install" installation package on OpenSolaris, I found that all required files are placed to expected locations. usr/local/bin contains myprogram file. If I type in command line: /usr/local/bin/myprogram, it is working. However, typing "myprogram" without path does not work. Is /usr/local/bin directory included in OpenSolaris executable path? If not, why autoconfig tools place my executable to this directory? Installation package is created in Ubuntu.
