  • How to prepare a codebase for compiling on both Windows and Unix-based systems

    Hi! I am wondering about different solutions to easily compile my cross-platform application for both windows and unix. Right now I am using a makefile on Ubuntu, but before my codebase grows larger I'd like to perform the steps necessary to compile it on Windows, and then continue doing so regularly to see that it still works. I'd preferably not contaminate my SVN codebase repository with multiple "makefile" solutions, such as VC++ solutions and so on, I'd like a more automatic way. I tried using mingw with make for windows, but it seems my secondexpansion awesomeness doesn't work on the Windows version (or something like that). It wouldn't compile, and also complained about _winNT or something like that not being defined. How should I prepare my codebase for cross-platform easy compiling? Things like buildtools, perhaps autogenerate VS file from makefile, or something similar. Some preprocessor magic in a stdinc file perhaps? Thanks!

  • NUNIT + VS2010 = Unable to copy file from /obj to /bin...being used by another process

    I am trying to run some unit tests using NUnit while I have the project open, and VS 2010 cannot rebuild the project while the assembly is loaded in NUnit. I have looked around and haven't found any solutions that seen to fix it. I can close NUnit, then the project builds fine. This is a the same solution based on Rob Conery's BDD demo found here: http://tekpub.com/view/concepts/5 Any thoughts?

    Below is the content of my .aspx page and the "jquery-ui-1.7.1.custom.min.js" is in the same location as the .aspx file. When I run the website with debugging, I get the below error. I know I am terribly missing something here. Any clue?   • Display and Use Advanced Find for Product Subscriptions by Account in Microsoft CRM 4.0

    By default when viewing an account in edit mode you have access to Opportunities, Invoices, and Quotes which contain the products being shopped by the account and/or the sales department. I'm trying to determine where to store, display, and use the products that an account has a subscription too. I may not understand the implementation but it seems that there should be "Products" option directly off the root Account management window that will show the user all the products the account has purchased. We are trying to integrate this with our production tracking system where product sales can originate from other channels that will not flow through CRM first. This product subscription does not fit into the Opportunity, Quote, or Invoice model because they are confirmed recurring sales that were automatically purchased via tools like a Public Website, Portal, etc. By enabling this tracking in CRM we can use the advanced find feature to facilitate follow up sales and marketing efforts. Example: Find everyone who is subscribed to model A, so we can notify them of a new holiday campaign where they can get 10% off on all add-ons. It's my assumption that this is a common scenario, however I'd like to better understand how to approach this within the world of Microsoft CRM. Thank you in advance.

    In the delivery of software, and within the sense of the deployment pipeline, where do the responsibilities of build tools, like Maven, end, and the responsibilities of CI start? As a rough example of a problem that arises; should build tools have any responsibility to the configuration and execution of acceptance tests when they are further down the pipeline than actually building the artifact? I'd like an answer that addresses in the sense of deployment lifecycle phases rather than in specifics, like my example. Although examples would help bolster the answer.

  • Android Unit Testing - Resolution & Verification Problems

    I just switched the way my Android project is being built and non of my unit tests work any more...I get errors like WARN/dalvikvm(575): VFY: unable to resolve static field X in ..... WARN/dalvikvm(575): VFY: unable to find class referenced in signature These errors only come from my Unit Tests, where classes defined in it can't even see other classes defined in the unit test. Before each project had its own directory with copies of the 3rd party jar files. I've read around that Dex does weird things with references but haven't been able to figure out how to fix this problem. Is there a better way to do this? I would love to see an example of a large Android workspace where there are multiple projects, jar references, etc... Is it possible to fix this with an Order/Export tweak ? The project is structured like this: Eclipse Workspace (PROJECT_HOME classpath variable) lib 3rd-party jars android.jar Java Project A Looks in PROJECT_HOME Java Project B Looks in PROJECT_HOME Depends on project A Android Project Depends on A & B Looks in PROJECT_HOME Android Test Project Depends on A , B, Android Project Looks in PROJECT_HOME

  • Creating a iso file from a set of img files

    So i have started building android from scratch and after lot of effort finally landed up to a point where i have the OUT folder consisting of all the required IMG files for an emulator to run. Like the system.img ramdisk.img userdata-qemu.img So after that i ran the emulator command so that means the OUT directory was valid and could easily be used to create any other bootable medium. What i want to accomplish Creating the iso file from all those img files found at the end of building process,or a way to just create an iso out of that complete OUT folder. any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

  • Build automation: Is it usual to use QMake for non-Qt projects?

    So, I'm planning to write a C++ library and I want it to be cross-platform, and as this library won't deal with UI and I want it to have as little dependencies as possible, I won't be using Qt (actually Qt won't really help me to achieve what I want, all I plan on using is STL and Boost). Now when it comes to build a cross-platform project, I really like QMake as it's extremely easy to use and I have experience with it. I also heard good things about CMake, though I really doubt it's as easy to use as QMake. Anyway, here is my question: Should I stick with build automation tool that I know or is QMake just out of context for a non-Qt project? Should I take this as an opportunity to learn CMake? Or is there a better alternative to these two?

    From my perspective, we're constructing our own 'flavour' of NAnt/Ivy/CruiseControl.Net in-house and can't help but get the feeling that other dev shops are doing exactly the same work, but then everybody is finding out the same problems and pitfalls with it. I'm not complaining about NAnt, Ivy or CruiseControl at all, as they've been brilliant in helping our team of developers become more sure of the quality of their code, but it just seems strange that these tools are very popular, yet we're all re-inventing the CI-wheel. Is there a pre-made solution for building .Net applications, using the tools mentioned above?

    I am new to Microsoft Access and SQL but have a decent programming background and I believe this problem should be relatively simple. I have two tables that I have imported into Access. I will give you a little context. One table is huge and contains generic, global data. The other table is still big but contains specific, regional data. There is only one common field (or column) between the two tables. Let’s call this common field CF. The other fields in both tables are different. I’ll take you through one iteration of what I need to do. I need to take each CF value in the regional, smaller table and find the common CF value in the larger, global table. After finding the match, I need to take the whole “record” or “row” from the global data and copy it over to the corresponding record in the smaller regional table (This should involve creating the new fields). I need to do this for all CF values in the regional, smaller table. I was recommended to use SQL and a binary search, but I am unfamiliar. Let me know if you have any questions.     I tried to use Cmake for the first time, I tried adding a library to my project (Specifically, PhysFS) but then I understood that the library had no .lib file or .a file at all, so I have to build those somehow. I have no clue where to even start around going this, what should I do? Someone suggested I'd go to the project folder and type "Cmake ..." then "Make ..." but I was clueless as to how I'd do that. How would I build the library headers and source files in a .lib file that I can link in C::B? I'm using Windows XP SP3
