  • Error on clicking on Text to Speech tab in Speech properties in Control Panel

    - by iceman
When I click on Text to Speech tab in Speech properties I receive error: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\sapi.cpl",Speech". There's a hotfix mentioned the the KBs in MS support. For that MS sent me a password protected file ; 170483_ENU_i386_zip.exe which contained two files : WindowsXP-KB838659-x86-ENU.EXE and WINDOWSXP-KB838659-X86-ENU-Symbols.EXE . The first one did not install as it said i already had it and the second one unpacked some dlls which i don't know how to use. I also tried Re-registering sapi.dll on Windows XP using C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32.exe Is there any other fix to this error?

  • powerpoint make computer shut down on dell optiplex 760

    - by yael
hello, At my office we upgraded group of computers to windows 7 + office 2010, few of us have problem that when we work on powerpoint - once in a while the computer suddenly shut down (with out any message). Some of us - has no such problems. We checked and fount that the people who experience problems - use Dell Optiplex 760 PC, and everyone that have no problems use other models. We also found out that the processors of the 760's are not the same - some are Intel E7400 and one is Intel E8400, so I suspect that maybe the mother board is the problem Does any one no this problem? Does any one have an idea about it? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Yael

  • Sign out of Windows Live Messenger remotely

    - by justinhj
I just upgraded Windows Live Messenger at home. I'm logged into my machine at work so I have a Live session active there too. Now the fun part. This new version of messenger is signing me out after about 2 minutes, and saying "You were signed out from here because you signed in to a version of Messenger that doesn't let you sign in at more than on place" Ok, so I went into the options on my home machine and selected "Sign me out at all other locations". Is there another way I can force my office machine to logout remotely, as either this option does not work, or the machine in my office just keeps reconnecting. Version 2009 14.0.8089.726 EDIT: Actually this problem went away after a few hours; I guess some kind of server side timeout kicked in.

  • Program for drawing with pen tablet, like Salman Khan's one.

    - by Halst
Hi, I do a lot of sketching with my pen-tablet. I use MS Paint in Windows 7, and it is just perfect except for anti-aliasing. I found some videos of Salman Khan, where his sketching is really smooth and anti-aliased. Do you know what program he might use? You can see a bit of its interface here: http://www.khanacademy.org/press/chronicle.html and some more: http:/www.khanacademy.org/ http:/khanexercises.appspot.com/video?v=GW8ZPjGlk24 Else, you can recommend me something else. I hope to find something like MS Paint in Windows 7, but anti-aliased, or whatever. PS. Sorry for awkward links - newbies are allowed only 1 link per post

  • Is there a way to make Apple Mail work well with Exchange server calendar?

    - by Joshua Frank
My office uses Macs, but most of our clients use Windows and Outlook. Whenever people send invitations from Apple Mail to a Windows/Outlook machine, the invitations are garbled and look nothing like the nicely formatted invitations that Outlook people are used to. We also have no tools to view shared calendars, so we can choose mutually open time slots, and other useful calendar features that Outlook has and Apple Mail seems not to. So is there a plugin or third party program that will give Apple Mail the nice calendar features of Outlook? (By the way, I've looked into actually buying Outlook for Mac, and the pricing is kind of prohibitive, because you MUST buy the whole Office Suite, which we already have, there's no upgrade path, and there's no volume discounting.)

  • Glassfish V3 won't start

    - by Zakaria
Hi everybody, I installed NetBeans 6.8 and tried to run the GlasshFish V3 server. I'm working under Windows Vista 32 Bits. First, it won't run. Then I modified the c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file and put the following line into it: 127.0.0.1 localhost And when I run the GlasshFish V3 Server, no error is showing but only "INFOs" are displayed: 3 avr. 2010 19:23:19 com.sun.enterprise.glassfish.bootstrap.ASMain main INFO: Launching GlassFish on Felix platform Welcome to Felix ================ INFO: Perform lazy SSL initialization for the listener 'http-listener-2' INFO: Starting Grizzly Framework 1.9.18-k - Sat Apr 03 19:23:24 CEST 2010 INFO: Starting Grizzly Framework 1.9.18-k - Sat Apr 03 19:23:25 CEST 2010 INFO: Grizzly Framework 1.9.18-k started in: 423ms listening on port 35127 INFO: GlassFish v3 (74.2) startup time : Felix(4456ms) startup services(1709ms) total(6165ms) INFO: Grizzly Framework 1.9.18-k started in: 459ms listening on port 35116 INFO: Grizzly Framework 1.9.18-k started in: 428ms listening on port 35155 INFO: Grizzly Framework 1.9.18-k started in: 470ms listening on port 35160 INFO: Grizzly Framework 1.9.18-k started in: 513ms listening on port 35159 INFO: javassist.util.proxy.ProxyFactory.classLoaderProvider = org.glassfish.weld.WeldActivator$GlassFishClassLoaderProvider@5be8f4 INFO: Hibernate Validator bean-validator-3.0-JBoss-4.0.2 INFO: Binding RMI port to *:35165 INFO: Instantiated an instance of org.hibernate.validator.engine.resolver.JPATraversableResolver. • Reverse DNS does not match SMTP Banner

    - by Bastien974
Hi all, I had this Warning with mxtoolbox. I know that it's not necessarily a big problem, but since we are having lots of issue with email delivery, I want to check everything. I have a Exchange server 07 + Sonicwall. My FQDN is office.mydomain.ca for send/receive connectors. When I try : telnet office.mydomain.ca 25 -- 220 MYSERVER.mydomain.local Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Fri, 7 May 2010 10:34:36 -0400 I can change my SMTP Banner in the Sonicwall, but I don't know what to write, if there is a specific syntax or what can be the consequence if it doesn't work. Thanks for your help.

  • SQL Server 2005 to 2008 upgrade - are MDF files binary compatible?

    - by james
I have 50 databases on a MS SQL Server 2005 system and want to upgrade to MS SQL Server 2008. This is what I tried on some test machines: 1. copied the \DATA directory from the source (MSSQL 2005) to exactly the same path on the target (MSSQL 2008) server. 2. edited the startup parameters on the MSSQL 2008 service to point to the path of the MSSQL 2005 master database. 3. restarted MSSQL service It worked and I can access all databases, tables and data. My questions are: I go back to SQL Server 4.2 and it has never been this easy. I know it worked, but should have it worked? Am I missing something, or is there going to be a gotcha next week? These are simple databases, with just tables, views and indexes. No cross database links, no triggers etc

  • HTTP Headers - need to check OPTIONS

    - by chris
I've received the results of a pen test and there is some unwanted exposure in the HTTP OPTIONS where the fact that Frontpage Server Extensions was available (now removed) was reported. I need to run a check on the OPTIONS to see whether it has been removed. The test output from the report is below, I need to recreate it to establish that it has gone but don't know how to check the OPTIONS, I can only find tools that seem to check the "HEAD / HTTP/1.1". Does anyone know how to test this - I'm running a Windows environment? Many thanks OPTIONS / HTTP/1.1 Host: www.website.com HTTP/1.1 200 OK Allow: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD Content-Length: 0 Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0 Public: OPTIONS, TRACE, GET, HEAD, POST MS-Author-Via: MS-FP/4.0 X-Powered-By: ASP.NET MicrosoftOfficeWebServer: 5.0_Pub Date: Fri, 01 Feb 2010 16:09:15 GMT

  • Copying Chinese Characters from PDF

    - by Kevin
I am on a Windows 7 laptop, which I believe comes pre installed with all the language packs to my knowledge. I can see Chinese characters with no issues and normally can copy them fine. (From browser to Microsoft Office works great). I have many PDFs with chinese characters in them, whenever I try to copy them and paste them into another program such as a browser, Microsoft Office, ect I just get strange foreign characters such as: This is copying a line. It is in this order: Chinese characters, pinyin (chinese in roman letters), and then the Englis translation. ,ô t¯ing w?o shu¯o listen to me The pinyin is also getting messed up, as the tonal marks (accents) about each letter are moving to a space of their own. Any ideas on to how to fix this? Thank you very much!

  • Which linux distro for a laptop in windows environmet?

    - by Dev er dev
I just got new laptop at work. What would you recommend as a linux distribution for it? All other developers are working under windows, and use windows tools. I'm currently using ArchLinux, but want to change it. I don't want to waste time configuring wireless, windows network shares, network pritners, projector, etc ... I want this stuff to just work, while still having sane and stable development evironment and tools. Is Ubuntu a good choice for this? I use gentoo at home, but don't think it is a good match for work environmet. EDIT: Note that we are working on cross platform apps, and deployment platform is almost always linux. There are very few windows apps that I have to use (like MS Project). It is just that everything else is windows centric. I use linux because I feel more productive with it, even if I have to dual boot to edit MS Project files.

  • MD3200 - 3 to 4x less throughput than MD1220. Am I missing something here?

    - by Igor Polishchuk
I have two R710 servers with similar configuration. One in my office has MD1220 attached. Another one in the datacenter of my hosting services vendor has MD3200. I'm getting significantly worse throughput from MD3200 at my vendors setup. I'm mostly interested in sequential writes, and I'm getting these results in bonnie++ and dd tests: Seq. writes on MD1220 in my office: 1.1 GB/s - bonnie++, 1.3GB/s - dd Seq. writes on MD3200 at my vendor's: 240MB/s - bonnie++, 310MB/s - dd Unfortunately, I could not test the exactly the same configurations, but the two I have should be comparable. If anything, my good performing environment is cheaper than the bad performing. I expect at least similar throughput from these two setups. My vendor cannot really help me. Hopefully, somebody more familiar with the DAS performance can look at it and tell if I'm missing something here and my expectations are too high. To summarize, the question here is it reasonable to expect about 100MB/s of sequential write throughput per each couple of drives in RAID10 on MD3200? Is there any trick to enable such performance in MD3200 with dual controller as opposed to simple MD1220 with a single H800 adapter? More details about the configurations: A good one in my office: Dell R710 2CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz 12 cores 96GB DDR3, OS: RHEL 5.5, kernel 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 x86_64 20x300GB 2.5" SAS 10K in a single RAID10 1MB chunk size on MD1220 + Dell H800 I/O controller with 1GB cache in the host Not so good one at my vendor's: Dell R710 2CPU L5520 @ 2.27GHz 8 cores 144GB DDR3, OS: RHEL 5.5, kernel 2.6.18-194.11.4.el5 x86_64 20x146GB 2.5" SAS 15K in a single RAID10 512KB chunk size, Dell MD3200, 2 I/O controllers in array with 1GB cache each Additional information. I've also ran the same tests on the same vendor's host, but the storage was: two raids of 14x146GB 15K RPM drives RAID 10, striped together on the OS level on MD3000+MD1000. The performance was about 25% worse than on MD3200 despite having more drives. When I ran similar tests on the internal storage of my vendor's host (2x146GB 15K RPM drives RAID1, Perc 6i) I've got about 128MB/s seq. writes. Just two internal drives gave me about a half of 20 drives' throughput on MD3200. The random I/O performance of the MD3200 setup is ok, it gives me at least 1300 IOPS. I'm mostly have problems with sequentioal I/O throughput. Thank you for looking into it. Regards Igor

  • Problem closing MDI child window in Terminal Services/Remote Desktop Connection 7.0

    - by Justin Love
I have one user whose computer just got updated to the 7.0 Remote Desktop Connection. Concurrently, she has started having a problem closing the MDI child windows in an old FoxPro application running on the remote server. We have two different servers, both 2003, running the same application, one locally and one at a remote office. Only the remote office server is giving trouble. It works fine for me, even when logging into her TS account. No other users have complained. The other day the same user experienced an error message (path not found for a path showing a localization placeholder) starting the RDC, fixed by reboot. I suspect she may have had RDC running during the 7.0 upgrade.

  • Transferring FSMO roles over vpn

    - by Tom Bowman
I have a server located at one of our offices which is quite old and is due to be upgraded soon, this server holds the FSMO roles, I have another server in another office, both are DC's in the same domain and both are replicated, both run Server 2003 standard. I need to transfer the FSMO roles from the old server to the the one I have in the other office before I upgrade. Also I am looking at bringing in Exchange 2010 server however I cant install/configure that until I transfer the roles as it needs to be at the same site as the schema master. My question really is as both servers replicate over a vpn, how quickly will the roles transfer and will there be downtime as I need to make sure that while the transfer is running, both servers will service logon's and share files. or would it be better to do it out of hours? many thanks and apologies if I've missed out anything Regards Tom

  • pfsense multi-site VPN VOIP deployment

    - by sysconfig
have main office pfsense firewall configured like this: local networks WAN - internet LAN - local network VOIP - IP phones need to connect remote offices (multi-users) and single remote users (from home) use IPSEC or OpenVPN to build "permanent" automatically connecting tunnels from remote location to main location. in remote locations, network will look like this: WAN - internet LAN - local network multiple users VOIP - multiple IP phones in order for the IP phones to work they have to be able to "see" the VOIP network and the VOIP server back at the main office for single remote users ( like from home ) the setup will be similar but only one phone and one computer so questions: best way to tie networks together? IPSEC or OpenVPN can this be setup to automatically connect ? any issues/suggestions with that design/topology ? QoS or issues with running the VOIP traffic over a VPN throughput, quality etc.. obviously depends on remote locations connection to some degree

  • network timeout how to analyse problem

    - by elhombre
In the last three month I was experiencing that my internet connection started to get very slow and websites had long time to load. The first thing I made was an ping to www.google.com which showed that I was loosing pakets. Here some of the results: 64 bytes from 74.125.39.103: icmp_seq=2909 ttl=53 time=48.222 ms Request timeout for icmp_seq 2910 Request timeout for icmp_seq 2911 64 bytes from 74.125.39.103: icmp_seq=2912 ttl=53 time=44.372 ms Days later I had to reset my router because it wasn't able to establish a correct network connection. It was after the reset when things worked again for some days. But later the same network timeouts started to happen again. I would like to know how I can analyze the problem to get to the source which is causing this timeouts. Which steps do you take to circle in this Problem? • Where can I find a useful Unicode fallback font for Mac OS X?

    - by Stephen Jennings
On every browser I've tried (Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Omniweb), when I go to a web page containing somewhat less-common characters, I can't see the glyphs. For example, on the Wikipedia page for the Bengali Language, the very first line contains a string of squares; on Windows, I can see the Bengali writing. On Windows, as long as I have the Arial Unicode MS font installed, these characters fall back to that font and display properly. Mac OS X doesn't seem to ship with a font containing these Unicode characters (it has Arial Unicode MS, but it must be a subset of the Windows version because Bengali doesn't display in that font). I checked on my Snow Leopard DVD and I installed "Additional Fonts" from the Optional Installs package, but I'm still missing many languages. Is there any good, free font that contains a large collection of languages? I know creating fonts is difficult and time-consuming, but it seems like including at least one font like this with operating systems should be standard by now.

  • xamlparser error after clickonce deployment.Application crashing after installation

    - by black sensei
Hello Good People, I've built an WPF application with visual studio 2008 and created an installer for it.Works fine so far.I realized it lacks the automatic updates feature, and after trying several solutions, i decided to give a try to clickonce deployment. After a successful deployment on a network server, i 've noticed that the application crashes after installation of the downloaded app.It complains about this: Cannot create instance of 'Login' defined in assembly 'MyApplication, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'. • Excel 2003 opening files on network

    - by Luke
The network is laid out with an XP Pro computer as the server hosting files, then 3 XP computers connecting to it for filesharing, all on it's own router. One computer can open .xls files no problem, and she runs Office XP. The other two computers run Office 2003, and cannot open any shared files by double-clicking them, or by selecting File-Open in Excel. If the file gets copied to the local computer, it opens instantly. I have tried disabling the AV on all computers, disabling the Windows firewall, and doublechecking permissions on the server. I have also tried disabling DDE, but that doesn't help at all, just like Tools-Options-unticking Ignore other applications. Any ideas? This apparently started a couple days ago

  • Delay of mail delivery - Hosted exchange provider

    - by alex
Hi, I recently signed up to a new hosted email provider. When I send mail (from OWA, OR Outlook) there is a delay of up to 3 minutes from when i send the message, to when it's received (in my gmail account for example) I've listed the headers below. Is there anything I can advise my new email host to do? My previous email host delivers within 5 seconds!! • Would firewire networking be better than 100Megabit ethernet?

    - by Josh
My office network has a fully switched 1000Megabit ethernet network. I have an Apple iMac with a Gigabit NIC and FireWire, and a Compaq laptop with a 100Megabit NIC and a 4-pin FireWire interface. Accessing my office's shared drives using my laptop is (obviously) much loswer using my laptop than my iMac. Would I see a noticeible performance boost if I enabled Internet Connection Sharing on my iMac and shared the private ethernet network from my iMac with my laptop over FireWire? FireWire is 480Mbit/sec, right? So would I see roughly 4x speed improvement with such a setup?

  • Converting AES encryption token code in C# to php

    - by joey
Hello, I have the following .Net code which takes two inputs. 1) A 128 bit base 64 encoded key and 2) the userid. It outputs the AES encrypted token. I need the php equivalent of the same code, but dont know which corresponding php classes are to be used for RNGCryptoServiceProvider,RijndaelManaged,ICryptoTransform,MemoryStream and CryptoStream. Im stuck so any help regarding this would be really appreciated. using System; using System.Text; using System.IO; using System.Security.Cryptography; class AESToken { [STAThread] static int Main(string[] args) { if (args.Length != 2) { Console.WriteLine("Usage: AESToken key userId\n"); Console.WriteLine("key Specifies 128-bit AES key base64 encoded supplied by MediaNet to the partner"); Console.WriteLine("userId specifies the unique id"); return -1; } string key = args[0]; string userId = args[1]; StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); // This example code uses the magic string “CAMB2B”. The implementer // must use the appropriate magic string for the web services API. sb.Append("CAMB2B"); sb.Append(args[1]); // userId sb.Append('|'); // pipe char sb.Append(System.DateTime.UtcNow.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ssUTC")); //timestamp Byte[] payload = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(sb.ToString()); byte[] salt = new Byte[16]; // 16 bytes of random salt RNGCryptoServiceProvider rng = new RNGCryptoServiceProvider(); rng.GetBytes(salt); // the plaintext is 16 bytes of salt followed by the payload. byte[] plaintext = new byte[salt.Length + payload.Length]; salt.CopyTo(plaintext, 0); payload.CopyTo(plaintext, salt.Length); // the AES cryptor: 128-bit key, 128-bit block size, CBC mode RijndaelManaged cryptor = new RijndaelManaged(); cryptor.KeySize = 128; cryptor.BlockSize = 128; cryptor.Mode = CipherMode.CBC; cryptor.GenerateIV(); cryptor.Key = Convert.FromBase64String(args[0]); // the key byte[] iv = cryptor.IV; // the IV. // do the encryption ICryptoTransform encryptor = cryptor.CreateEncryptor(cryptor.Key, iv); MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); CryptoStream cs = new CryptoStream(ms, encryptor, CryptoStreamMode.Write); cs.Write(plaintext, 0, plaintext.Length); cs.FlushFinalBlock(); byte[] ciphertext = ms.ToArray(); ms.Close(); cs.Close(); // build the token byte[] tokenBytes = new byte[iv.Length + ciphertext.Length]; iv.CopyTo(tokenBytes, 0); ciphertext.CopyTo(tokenBytes, iv.Length); string token = Convert.ToBase64String(tokenBytes); Console.WriteLine(token); return 0; } } Please help.
